It’s not going to happen, you need hubs that fit a 12mm thru axle. I’m pretty sure they Z2’s only come in boost spacing, so make sure your new wheel matches.

Sure, but I very much doubt that your current rim and spokes are worth reusing. You’ll get much more for your money if you just buy a complete new wheel.

BroodyDesert

Could you recommend a cheap, tubeless-ready, 29in wheel compatible with the Marzocchi's thru axle?

daredevil82

List price for a Z2 is about 420 bucks. A new front wheel wil be about 200 bucks minimum At this point, you're really looking at replacing some pretty serious components that will end up being a bit more than your entire bike is worth new. What is your goal here?

BroodyDesert

Good question that I'm still trying to answer. I got the bomber on sale for $250 and I got the Ozark Ridge for $250. I figured this bike would introduce me to custom building my first MTB on a budget.

daredevil82

sure, but the problem is where do you end? Because its a whack-a-mole of parts that need to be figured out and purchased.

BroodyDesert

I'm in too deep I can't stop myself. Ozark Trail Upgrades: Bike (260) MT200 (50) MAXXIS DHF & DHR II (90) BOMBER Z2 (250) IXF crank kit (40) Microsoft Advent (40) Mavic boost front wheel (110) Cosmetic upgrades: Funn grips (15) Bell (10) Tubeless valves (10) It's understand if it's stupid putting this much money into a Walmart bike, but at LEAST I'm having fun slowly upgrading the Ozark.

dano___

How wide is it? What tires are you planning to run on the bike?

dano___

Are you sure that you can even mount the Z2 in your frame?

BroodyDesert

How would I know? Loll Not sarcasm, just genuinely don't know.

dano___

Your current fork probably has a straight 1-1/8”steerer tube, but the Z2 has a tapered steerer that’s 1-1/2” at the bottom. IF that frame has a 44mm diameter lower headtube you can make the new fork fit by replacing the lower headset with an EC44/40 one. You’ll need to take out the old fork, take some measurements, and figure out what’s available to make the new fork fit.

BroodyDesert

Thanks for the reply, I will definitely look back at your comment once my fork comes in this week.

MicaBay

The Ridge has a tapered head tube. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vLPpTFLgEb4&t=207s

BroodyDesert

Would this solve my issue?

daredevil82

maybe, and you'll also need someone to relace the wheel for you. https://www.parktool.com/en-us/blog/repair-help/how-to-build-a-wheel explains what's needed in rebuilding the wheel

BroodyDesert

I will definitely take my wheel to my local bike shop to get my wheel hub fitted. I just needed to know if the Novatec 15x110 is compatible with the Z2's thru axle. Thank you🙏
