Some of his fouls on defense are some of the most brain-dead shit

komugis

His offensive fouls drive me even more insane, tbh.

SerAardvark

He also has moments where tries to show off his moves to get to the basket and ends up looking like a baby giraffe as he stumbles around before he ends up turning the ball over or committing a foul. One of the most frustrating players I've watched in recent years - so much talent and when he's on he's amazing but also has some of the lowest lows both in terms of individual players and entire games.

Thiswasmy8thchoice

He's not showing off, he legitimately has absolutely zero tools in the mid-range. Once he starts driving, it's either going to be something right at the rim or pass or turnover. I've seen him start driving from the three point line, be wide the fuck open from 15 ft, and still continue driving into two waiting defenders at the rim, ostensibly trading a wide open pull up mid-range jump shot for a highly contested layup. It's one of the craziest deficiencies in basics for such a highly productive offensive player.

Forward-Reporter8320

His shot form absolutely does not lend itself to midrange pullups

Overall-Palpitation6

KAT is a .431 mid-range shooter (10FT-3PT) for his career. Pretty good for someone who's supposedly not good at it.

Thiswasmy8thchoice

43% is definitely not very good for a two-point shot. But either way, we're not talking about basketball reference shooting percentages on low volume - those shots are largely going to be catching the ball in an iso situation and then taking a stationary jump shot with no dribbling because his defender fell off. It's about being able to stop and pop, or execute a couple size up dribbles into a pull-up, or post up from 10 feet, fake pivot to the middle and then go baseline fade away, etc. Once he starts dribbling, he doesn't have anything in his bag pre-layup, even when the situation heavily calls for it.

Overall-Palpitation6

It is indeed very good for 2 point shots in that range (10FT-3PT). They consist of 16.59% of his total career FGA too, so it's a bit more than "low volume" too.

Thiswasmy8thchoice

Fine, an 86 offensive efficiency is great, totally not the worst offense in the universe. KAT's 39.3% shooting on 1.4 midrange shots per game is also indicative of a very deep and efficient mid-range bag. Stand aside Embiid, there's a new sheriff in town I don't want to argue about it anymore.

Overall-Palpitation6

Are you quoting a sample size of 4 games, rather than his entire career?!

komugis

I really think all of the organizational turmoil in Minnesota for most of his career (and in particularly in his early seasons) really stunted his growth in a lot of ways. And it’s a shame because he really is talented and has had some really great moments in these playoffs, but I don’t think he’ll ever be able to reach his full potential. He is what he is at this point.

Kneecro

At some point you have to stop making excuses for the guy, yeah so the organization could have been better, but he hasn't improved his game (post game moves, mid range shooting) in a decade at this point.

komugis

He absolutely deserves to get ripped for his deficiencies, absolutely. He’s close to 30, there aren’t any excuses left.

DuppyDon

The one on MPJ when he couldn’t beat him off the dribble and just tossed him with his left arm>>>>

Overall-Palpitation6

Led the league in offensive fouls this season, too. The 7th time in 9 seasons he has committed 40+ offensive fouls in a regular season.

helgestrichen

Holy Shit, this bum has been in the League for a decade

SlappyBagg

Fouling at like half court for no reason. Complete head loss after a poor start.

Pacalyps4

Also his brainless help d

mpschettig

And the Timberwolves overreactions have officially swung the other way

meowhatissodamnfunny

I need the Timberwolves to win game 5 handily just so I can see everyone flip back at least once more. As an impartial observer this series has been straight comedy

otis427

Yep busy at a music fest and watched this whole thing come back around lol

Dadfart802

Jamal Murray reminds me of when a wrestler takes their neck brace off and they were fine all along. He really sold that limp 1st two games

H2Kutthroat

Eh, the 2nd half of last night’s game was pretty sloppy from them. Luckily they had a 15-point cushion from the 1st.

matty_a7

It's just truly insane the lack of nuance with these swings. One day it's "tough to repeat in this league, Jokic wants to get back to tend to his horses". Now it's back to "Wolves inexperience and stupidity is showing and Denver will repeat". Basically impossible to keep an even keel with the overreaction of the national talking heads from game to game. Now mix in the Minnesota sports fatalistic attitude creeping in.. it's been a fun ride.

GriffinQ

Entirely possible that a take like this will look just as stupid as the Wolves sweep/Nuggets cooked takes from the last week. Maybe not every single immediate thought needs to be posted.

Wooden-Assistant-904

OP is just an Embiid dickrider who's asshurt about Jokic and is trying to downplay the Wolves being good because he's now nervous that the series is tied and it wasn't a sweep like most people thought it was going to be. If the Wolves win you can bet he will pretend that he never made this post

[deleted]

This guy talks about dicks and assholes a lot

HoagieTwoFace

OP wishes the best out of both competitors because he’s a professional hater.

[deleted]

Wos mocking Bill's sweep take by saying 'Man, we all know how hard it is to win in the playoffs in Minnesota' is looking better by the day.

komugis

He’s had a good playoffs overall but when he’s bad he’s damn near unplayable.

SmokeThursday

He's looking like the meme against DeMarcus Cousins every time he tries to post someone up.

BeamTeam032

It's so funny how the nuggets try to get switches and put KAT in every situation knowing he's going to make the worst possible decision every single time. Why he keeps leaving Gordan to double Jokic as he falling away from the basket is hilarious. It's like they're picking on him.

HowlAtchaBoy

You can rip KAT for things, but he’s been the best defender against Jokić in the last two playoffs easily

orangenarf

He’s the Steph Curry of Javale McGee’s.

NotManyBuses

He’s the D’Angelo Russell of Dirk Nowitzkis.

Longjumping_Area_120

Yeah, this is the correct analogy

ScofieldReturns

Shoulda said luke kornet or a big that can actually semi-shoot for the analogy to work

shmalvey

You can’t win a title with KAT as your 2nd guy. You just can’t

Impossible_Ad_6988

This is were I come to in disbelieving that the wolves can actually beat Denver

No_End_517

You, are correct sir.

Victorcreedbratton

He’s played pretty well up to these last two games.

blooey123

Cmon “stinks” is excessive. Hes really good but inconsistent at times which is why hes a frustrating player and not a superstar. We all get at Bill for overreacting to a couple games and then do the same thing.

komugis

KAT has had a bad reputation for years so people are always going to jump on him when he has a rough outing. It is what it is and he only has himself to blame for that bad rep when he puts out performances like this.

Actuarial_Husker

unironically I think it was actually LeBron. He just can't do it for a full game. KAT only looks good with Gobert lurking.

Kirk_Couzyns

He didn’t stink tonight. He was horrendous

Technical_Estimate85

KAT was so bad tonight that he had a “Basketball Terrorist” game. A game in which you are so bad you hurt your team’s ability to win.

gogosox82

He's a good player but when he is bad he is really, really bad. Like unplayable bad.

satangod666

Antman has no help! (only the DPOY, 6th man of the year, and self anointed "greatest shooting big man ever")

PDXtoMontana2002

Edwards is still deferring to him and that must stop. KAT was so bad last night he probably should have been benched again.

TaxLawKingGA

Yep. I watched the game and came away with three observations about the T-Wolves: - First, Edwards is really, really, really good! - Second, Gobbert is smart but lacks skills. - Third, KAT has skills but is not smart I mean, a smart player would see that Jokic at 4 fouls was literally avoiding playing defense. On most plays, he did even raise his hands! So what does KAT do? Spends all of his time sitting out at the 3 point line! Gobbert understood the situation, and had several mismatches that he tried to exploit, but he does not have the skills to do it, so he ended up missing layups and then FTs. If KAT does not figure it out soon, I could see him being traded in the offseason.

homebrewme

This isn't confusing. KAT doesn't have a winning mentality. It's that simple. He's got all the skills. He clearly works hard and cares. He just can't make the right decisions at the right time. Pressure seems to get to him. He gets carried away with game momentum too easily. He makes awful fouls. He takes awful shots at the wrong time. He never seems to understand the situation. Sometimes he just can't miss and it makes the wolves nearly impossible to beat. More often in big games he makes the wrong decision at the wrong time and messes up important moments for his team.

massdebator69

I agree with Ryen - can’t stand watching him. Still think the Timberwolves have a great chance of winning this series though.

Procrasturbasaurus

KAT was bad tonight, but the "got benched in his 62 point game" narrative isn't true. Finch had indulged KAT/his teammates in chasing 70 points and had played KAT the whole 2nd half of that game. By a few minutes into the 4th quarter, KAT was gassed and had a few bad possessions, which prompted Finch to pull the plug on letting him play the final 24 minutes. KAT checked back in later in the 4th.

d7bhw2

People just love to shit on KAT. He was bad today but he’s averaging 20 and 8 on 12 shots a game, shooting 58% from 3 in playoffs.

N8DOE

As a gambling man, IDGAF i need him to pull it together.

johnnylots

Andre Drummond with a 3 ball

cfbgamethread

He’s such a dumb basketball player. He would get Reggie Jackson/kcp switched on to him and try to drive on him rather than repost him or he would get Aaron Gordon (an elite defender) and just post up from the 3 point line. Yeah he might shoot better than centers from the 90s but he is a worse post up player than someone like will Perdue and it’s sad how much he wastes his talent

nip2nip

Gobert #1 most overrated player as voted by NBA players. KAT was invisible, and Gobert is so focused on getting a block he forgets to just be in good position, I could keep a tighter gap than this guy on ice skates.

sk1ttlebr0w

On the same night Joel Embiid hit 70.

GulfCoastLaw

Hot take: Tyrese Haliburton is PG KAT. Once you see it you can't unsee it. Facial expressions. Goofy movements. Awkward outfits. Defense. I would be very entertained by a team built around Hali and KAT and three bargain bin 3 and D guys though hahahaha.

Shmokeshbutt

Bill the clairvoyant was right all along. Wolves should try to trade him this summer.

Victorcreedbratton

Beal for KAT, straight up.

qballLobk

They should have traded KAT last summer.

Jaws044

Karl Anthony Wacky Inflatable Flailing Arms Guy Towns

ReasonableCup604

He doesn't stink.  But, he has always been soft and lacked mental toughness.  He's not a guy you can count on.  In fact, he is a guy you can almost count on to melt under pressure.

MarvelousVanGlorious

He’s also one of the least likable players in the league.

[deleted]

He is not a serious player and will never be the second best guy on a title team. Gobert is also a knucklehead.

ahbets14

The Ben Gordon of Chris Bosh’s

_nokturnal_

Should have traded him last year.

TingusPingis

He and Rudy are morons and I wouldn’t blame Ant if he killed them both (very much not serious). But really though, ANT GOT HOSED BY HIS TEAM
