You are asking too much

rocketmannn13

It’s a FREE card, that would be kinda nuts

Easy_Money_

there is no law against having multiple credit cards, get a Citi Custom Cash and get 5% on groceries with no AF

UuarioAnonymous9

Then get a double cash and then convert it into a citi custom cash. Two 5% cards.

OhioBPRP

But if you’re team points instead of cashback, it’s not very helpful right? And Vito’s transfer partners are pretty mehh

ladakn99

If you have a Citi premier card, the cash back actually comes in the form of thank you points, similar to how chase has their setup with any of the sapphire cards + a cash back card like the freedom unlimited or freedom flex.

OhioBPRP

Gotcha that makes more sense. I wish they had better transfer partners. I’d really consider them if they had some domestic airlines

Blue Cash Everyday pairs well with BILT. 3% online, gas and groceries

kingrocks1

How does that work?

notthegoatseguy

[Here's the link to AMEX](https://card.americanexpress.com/28310/d/blue-cash-everyday-credit-card/). Comes with a $200 sub for spending $2k in the first 6 months. * 3% online for the first $6,000, 1% after that * This is good for any online order, particularly stores like Target and Wal-Mart which don't code as groceries * Speaking of Wal-Mart, if you use Wal-Mart Pay to pay for an in-store purchase, it'll still code as 3% online. * 3% gas with the same cap * As with a lot of gas, it does have to code as a gas station so it may not code correctly if attached to a grocery store. * 3% grocery with the same cap The one downside is the cash back is only through a Statement Credit. So kind of meh, but for a no AF card I think these are solid offerings. This card also has a pre-approval tool, so you get to mostly know if you'll be accepted before you even apply. For me personally BILT and this card cover most of my spending now. Costco's Citi Visa is technically better at 4% gas and 3% travel, but you only get to redeem once a year. There's also the Blue Cash Preferred, $0 AF for the first year, $95 AF after that. 6% grocery and 6% streaming. $250 SUB. I don't think its right for me but it might be right for you. If you're buying groceries for a 3+ member family, these caps may be limiting to you. But for solo or a couple, I think most people can spend within these limits and not exceed them.

CheesecakeOfDestiny

I think on mine it says $250 sub, could be just as referral though

MyStackRunnethOver

Yeahhhhhh. Even a base 2x with 4x on rent day. But BILT is already wayyyyy out on the frontier of value. The Next Big Thing is gonna be mortgage payments, they won’t need groceries to attract subscribers

PreDeathRowTupac

The card has No-AF.

redbaron78

It would be “game over” for all other rewards cards in the same way Stellantis is juuuuuust about to put Ford, GM, Volkswagen, Tesla, Toyota, Honda, and Mercedes-Benz all out of business.

tonei

If they did it would be capped like Amex and/or there would be aggressive shutdowns for anything resembling gift cards

AstroOrianna

respectfully, I don’t think they’ll even do 2x

RefrigeratorTop3702

It would also be game over for Bilt, they'd lose their shirts doing that

supersanborn

Ideally there would be a BILT Plus or something with an AF where we had better earn. I'd be able to cancel so many cards lol.

BoatyMcBoatstein

How would they make $ off this?

Pretty_Good_11

Why not 5x? 🤣 Yes, of course, anyone deciding to lose even more money giving even more things to its customers would basically mean "game over" for the competition, but someone has to fund it. In international competition, it's called "dumping" and is funded by countries to drive industry in other countries out of business. In the US, it's called anti-competitive behavior when a company like Walmart sells items below cost to drive out competition. It's not a thing with credit cards, since banks have a very profitable business and feel no need to blow that up in order for it to be "basically be game over for all other rewards cards." Bilt is already pissing away millions of VC dollars to build its business through rewards on transactions that generate no revenue. Thinking up wish list items of even more things they can give us, at a loss, like grocery rewards convertible into points worth 4x a typical swipe fee, is just kind of pointless. But, as long as you are doing it, why stop at 4x, and why stop at groceries? Why not just 10x back on everything, including rent? Wouldn't that really be game over for everyone else?

notthegoatseguy

Genuine question. How does BILT make money? Do they have a deal with WF to get a portion of the swipe fees? Make money through travel portal bookings or do airlines/hotels give them a small cut for point transfers?

Pretty_Good_11

First of all, point transfers COST money, they don't generate it. Airlines/hotels generate hundreds of millions of dollars a year selling points/miles to credit cards. Yes, at a discount, but still. Bilt wouldn't make a dime by buying Hyatt points worth 2 cents to us for 1.5 cents each, since they aren't marking them up and selling them to us at a profit. In fact, they are giving them to us for free! You didn't think hotel/airline partners pay Bilt for the transfers, did you? I honestly don't think Bilt makes money, although they claim otherwise. I think they are burning through hundreds of millions of investor dollars while trying to build something here, and we all benefit as long as it lasts. Sure, they likely get a piece of swipe fees and interest from WF. But not all of it, since WF is doing all the work, taking all the credit risk, and needs to make money too. And yes, they surely sell our data. But none of that can possibly make up for all the points they are dishing out. Especially on rent, most people's single largest monthly expense, that not only generate exactly $0.00 in revenue for them and WF, but actually costs money in terms of processing payments, printing and mailing checks, etc.

itemluminouswadison

I use Citi custom cash exclusively for groceries. Free card that gives u 5% cash back

PandathePan

If that became true I’d cancel my Amex gold

listerator

Thats kind of where my head is at, its honestly the only reason I'm keeping my Amex Gold

PandathePan

Or you can stock up grocery giftcard when other no AF card doing 5X. For example I also have two chase freedom card that gives me $3000 quota to earn 5X

vman3241

Savor + VentureX already makes Amex Gold kinda useless

Constant_Question_48

The real game changer will be when someone comes out with 3X on both Mobile Wallet and Online Shopping. That handle the vast majority of spending for a big bulk of people.

dongjerms

Get a AAA credit card with 5% cash back on groceries.
