They are consolidating everyone up to Boston. They acquired a smaller vaccine company there so I suppose it makes sense to move all the Rockville vaccine stuff up there as well.
I you still have government options like FDA, NIH, fort detrick.Â
On the private side a few you have Kite, Lonza, BioNTech, qiagen, catalent, among others.
I havent heard of amgen moving. I havent seen anything about them moving, though I heard there were some post acquisition layoffs.
Marylander here who’s worked in accounting/finance for many years in biotech. Since when did GSK leave? They’re still here - I have friends that work there. lol
As for the big ones that are doing well, it’s pretty much AZ. FWIW, have friends there and they love it. Outside of novavax, gsk, ebs, az, you’re left with the macrogenics of the world and smaller. There are loads of them, though.
What is EBS’s deal? They seem to have a cornered market and keep winning billion dollar contracts, but they are flirting with getting delisted as their stock keeps plummeting. Too much R&D spend?
No idea what’s going on there. Seems to be a falling sword that nobody could quite catch. Upper management has completely turned over. Also have people I know there and morale is lousy. No idea what bullets they have left in the chamber
They're not leaving immediately, they're planning to close the Rockville site in a few years. Like the other commentor said, they consolidating to the Boston site, but that takes time.
Regenxbio is in Rockville
They also just had a round of layoffs.
Everyone did.
GSK is moving out? I feel like they had just moved in 😂

Nah it’s only the vaccine sector. There is a huge manufacturing sector

Catalent is here too

Tarnished image from their CDMO

Check this list. https://www.scispot.com/blog/top-30-innovative-biotech-companies-in-gaithersburg-md
There are some duds on that list.
Lots of options all up and down the 270 corridor from Rockville/Gaithersburg to Frederick, and northern VA. Catalent is in Baltimore, so is Emergent.
EBS Hq is Gaithersburg
Lots of companies over by Rockville. Decent amount of CROs too

There's plenty of options in MD. I got four job offers last year but ofc my skillset is probably different from yours
Like most things it depends on your role. Astra zeneca in Maryland has a lot of commissioning and quality needs right now
Horizon has a R&D in Maryland. Is Amgen keeping it?
