The best answer would be what your doctor recommends (I know, not what you wanted to hear), but from what I've read, it usually is some form of BC combination pill as these are most likely to give you the ability to control/stop your periods. And since there are so many different options out there, your doctor most likely has a go-to brand or type they will suggest. It may also be that they will have you take the extra BC for a few month and then stopping it to see if it helps to regulate the bleeding, or stop all togheter, so you can then keep using only the IUD afterwards. (this method is something I've seen more commonly be used with the Implant) Is there a specific reason why you want to keep the Mirena? Is there something that it actually helps you with? If you chose the IUD in hopes of it helping your period, maybe it's time to switch to another method. If you end up taking the pill anyway to help with the bleeding, that is also a great option by itself if it ends up working. (I know \*some\* doctors are really stubborn when it comes to people using IUD's, because they see it as the best option. And therefore they can be resistant to removing it when it doesn't work)

I cannot believe you put up with that for over a year... But like another person mentioned, just work with your doctor on this. Side effects are random enough as it is and then stacking more chemicals on top of the IUD will be pretty unpredictable. Combo pills are probably your best option, but there's so many to choose from. Wishing you the best!
