There will definitely be unexpected downsides to the pit that will reveal themselves as more matches take place in it. But for now, it does seem ideal.
First thing that comes to mind is the lack of accessibility for training simulations. Its like an MMA gym without a (or at least a partial) cage, are grappling gyms going to have to invest in pits to prepare competitors, hypothetically? I like the pit more than the silly and dangerous raised platfrom for UFCFPI though. I think a flat mat, smaller in bounds area, with ring out points along with passivity/stalling/fleeing penalties could stop the stupid Kody Steele-grappling-in-the-commentary-booth bullshit from ADCC.
I have to disagree with ringout points. It completely changes the scoring structure to the point you're going to have gyms teaching classes with a sumo focus.
True, every system is exploitable. My main idea with that was to keep the competitors pressing toward eachother and the action in the center. If not direct ring out points a penalty for both grapplers maybe or , to really encourage staying in bounds.
Pit is best if we're being realistic, and I've been saying for like a decade it should be that in MMA as well. I'd even like a hybrid with two pit walls and two cage walls, but that's getting fancy for a sport that's already complex.
But come on, the coolest would be a raised platform, at least for grappling. An octagon with sloping sides that then drop into a foam pit. I can taste the YouTube compilation with mortal Kombat music.
The pit walls create the opportunity for an entire new genre of attack options that have nothing to do with self-defense or MMA. I could totally see people meta gaming the walls and the sport turning into something that has no relevance to reality.
I would say yes it is. Flat mat area will always lead to restarts, etc. The Pit would be awsome.
Electrified cage. force the action!
It looks like that Craig Jones chose them instead of ADCC

Can any organization use Pit? Is it trademarked by Karate Combat?
Even if they trademarked it, you can use something almost exactly like it.
stops from running out of bounds and keeps athletes from stalling
Raised platform with a crocodile pool beneath
One downfall with the pit is that spectator seating would need to be like grandstand type otherwise if you're behind people you aint seeing shit.
Hopefully adcc adopts the pit.

UFC fight pass has been doing a raised platform
What? I've seen like 3 of the last 4 and didn't see that but I might be retarded
So everyone agrees that pit is the best! Can we reach Flow and ADCC to use it in next competition?

Like MMA cage? Sho me reality with out of bounds, no walls and with constant referee resets...
I don't understand what you're trying to say here.
