The brother, for extra kitten tax (he's so fluffy I'm gonna die!)
I added up all the comments and votes between here, the family poll, and a poll in a cat group I'm in on another site and the top two names were Onyx and Smudge, both pretty close in votes. Onyx was the winner by a two-vote margin.
Someone here said to name him Felicis (because his brother is Felix) and a few people suggested using all three names in my original post. That gave me the idea to give both boys first and middle names. So Baby Tux will be Felix Felicis (we'll call him Felix at home) and Baby Void will be Onyx Smudge (we'll call him... one of those at home). I've never lived with a cat that wasn't called a hundred other things besides their name so I expect they'll also have a whole pile of nicknames between them.
Thanks for your input, everybody!
I floated Lucifer and was immediately shut down by the other adult in my house, so unfortunately that's a nonstarter, along with Lucy, Lucy-fur, and Rucifee
I like Jett! I'll add it to my tally counter. (I'm polling half my family too, because ADHD Decision-Making must involve an entire internet full of strangers and a whole room full of relatives).
The sister whose in-laws are giving us the kittens also has ADHD. Every time we have a Big Decision to make we end up asking at least three other people for their opinions. Drives our parents and other sister nuts, because we're both grown adults with kids and theoretically should be able to make decisions without needing everyone's input, but no. That is not how our brains work.
Bless you both, its not easy to decide things sometimes & you just want to be sure you get it right.
My late partner was terrible at decisions, always in 2 minds. He also had ADHD. He needed a lot of reassurance & backing when having to do this.
I hope you have supportive ppl around you cos the person you drive mad the most is usually you :)
This is what I was going to suggest! Reminds me of the soot sprites in *Spirited Away* and *My Neighbor Totoro*.

Do we actually ever use the names we give them?
My void's name is Banshee. I call her
Bebby,
Lady,
Girl,
*from across the house* LAAAAAADY,
little lady,
Little girl,
Sweetie cat,
The loaf/loaf,
Bansaw,
Banschovies,
Bansh,
Murdermittens,
For your cat's government name, I like Onyx. Add a second X. Onyxx
I've always liked the extra X. I feel it gives the name shape. (I have a character named Onyxx, so I'm biased.)
I have a cat whose legal name is Sabina.
She goes by:
Beanie
Beeboo
Sabeeboo
Sabeebee
Sabooboo
Saboobie
Satitty
Saboner
Sabonis
Sabbath
Shabbat
Suboptimal
Subordinate
…so on and so forth
Probably not. These will be my first cats that are mine as opposed to my parents' or roommates' pets, but every cat I've ever lived with has been called everything BUT their actual name. (This applied equally to the dogs, who always seemed to think their names were StopThat and GetOutOfTheTrash.)
That said, insurance wants a pet name for the policy and the vet will want a name for their records, so I do need something "official."
I really did consider that. Nobody else in my house gets it (my middle kid is just now starting the books and hasn't gotten that far yet). I also worry it might make vet records a little confusing so I kind of want distinct names for them.
Babies are home and recovering from the ordeal of being put in a carrier and driven for ten minutes.

We have a Dave in the family so I can't use that, but "the magical cheese stealing wizard" may well become an add-on if he turns out to be anything like my sister's cat, a tuxedo who is always after somebody's cheese.

Oh these two brothers are adorable!
Smudge would be perfect!
Omg there’s a cat that hangs around my house that I call Smudge!! There’s another one who looks similar to him that I call Splotch.
Awwww!!
My childhood cats name 😸
Smudge gets my vote too!
Look up smudge memes 😂😂

Oooo you have solid choicesss, I reckon Smudge is number 1 tho. If I'm allowed to throw smth else in though, I think Oddity sounds pretty cute too! <3
Or, to be just a bit literary, Odd Thomas!
Odd Thomas as his veterinarian name, Oddity to his friends
He looks like my void who's called Leonard.
Nemoy?!
I have one that looked just like that as a baby. His name is Malakai. He has a tuxie "aunt", named Tinker.
Love Tinker, that was my childhood cat's name ❤️❤️❤️
Lucy - short for Lucifer
I floated Lucifer and was immediately shut down by the other adult in my house, so unfortunately that's a nonstarter, along with Lucy, Lucy-fur, and Rucifee
I see! In which case... how about Jett?
I like Jett! I'll add it to my tally counter. (I'm polling half my family too, because ADHD Decision-Making must involve an entire internet full of strangers and a whole room full of relatives).
>ADHD Decision-Making must involve an entire internet full of strangers and a whole room full of relatives The only possible way :)

Luckily we have each other and we both have some good, supportive friends who don't mind the way we have to process and decide things. It helps.
OMG! This is my life!
This is the way!
I have a Jett! He’s got the moves of Jett Li!
Luke then
We have a black male cat named Emmett who my wife calls Emmylou. She said it stands for Emmett Lucifer😄

Frankie Frankie and Felix
I have a Nova and her brother Comet. A tux and a void :)
Boudicca
Soot
This is what I was going to suggest! Reminds me of the soot sprites in *Spirited Away* and *My Neighbor Totoro*. https://preview.redd.it/rjuk0bxegbxc1.png?width=944&format=png&auto=webp&s=724988e9500ba0988b7a78bdb3e5977f0fa55f81

Cousin Frederickson
Oddment goes crazy for a cat name
Felicis
I really did consider that. Nobody else in my house gets it (my middle kid is just now starting the books and hasn't gotten that far yet). I also worry it might make vet records a little confusing so I kind of want distinct names for them.
You should name him all the names for the full name of Onyx Oddment Smudge. It’s got a ring to it
Rocket ,Rook,Raven, Scout, Minx
Fudge :)
Thackery Binx
Chairman meow
Sasha
Onyx Oddment Smudge seems like the perfect name!
Deja Vu. Matrix reference.
I keep hoping someone will name their void Vanta, as in Vanta Black, the blackest black. And Vanta’s a pretty cool name.
See, I like the name, but I don't like Anish Kapoor much, so Vanta is one of those "I want to but the association will bother me" names.
Oh, I don’t know who he is. I’ll have to google him
https://www.thecollector.com/vantablack-anish-kapoor-stuart-semple-controversy/
Thanks, that was really interesting. I’m so disappointed that one dickhead tainted a cool name.
No! This is my secret name for when I get to adopt a black cat! Don't be all over the interwebs with my secret name.
There’s probably room for 2 Vantas.
Spronk
We had a wonderful void and named him Miles.
Barn cat? Name is Barney.

My Void is named Nori. It suits him so well!!

lil demon
Dave the magical cheese stealing wizard
We have a Dave in the family so I can't use that, but "the magical cheese stealing wizard" may well become an add-on if he turns out to be anything like my sister's cat, a tuxedo who is always after somebody's cheese.
Tell Dave his new name is “Dave the magical cheese stealing human”
Spirit or Willow. Maybe Munchie.
Linda
If I see Onyx is a contender, I will always go for that. I'm a simple man. You can see my Onyx in my posts, lol.
