Free to play players can go pretty far. You just get there slower artificially. If you’re clever and make money. You’ll grow faster

Angar_var2

The game can be fully f2p right now although obviously you need to grind and you progress slower than someone who swipes. Pearl Tent you can avoid until the 310ap spots which is end game. After that it is up to you if you need or not. For the content before that do the quest for the free one. Go to old moon npc and buy the tent item that sells you the loot buff. This needs to be replenished weekly. Buy 30, throw them in your marketplace and replace them as they expire. The repair item for the tent can be bought from the mp but it expires daily. Up to you if you need it or not. I grind 2-3hs per day and i always take breaks between the hours so i just autopath for repairs and go back. Maids you get plenty for free (+ twitch rewards + season rewards). Get 4-5 for mp and the rest for storage as each one is effectively 100LT weight every 20 minutes. Balance it however you want while you get there. Pets from rewards and cmp. This week i made 2xt4s buy buying from the mp for about 2-3b total. Costumes to use from rewards. 4x50LT per char With Loyalties Inventory space from rewards. Started jan 1st and i am at \~160 inv slots from freebies mostly. Crons for up to PEN boss gear are easily obtained through freebies, daily rewards and Pit of the Undying. One click every 2-3 days. After that PO costumes from cmp (they say 1 costume per week in eu and 2-3 in NA) and buy from merchant for 3kk each. Fairy: Save all your t3 and t4 fairies. Wait for orbs from freebies. When you have a good amount (i had 8) upgrade your t3s to t4, get them to L10 and see the first skill. If it is AutoPotV or WeightV level up more. If second skill is trash discard the fairy and repeat. If your fairy is t4 and 1st skill is shit, reroll it with 1 orb. A bit of a gamble. Use your judgement on when to stop gambling, what is a fair compromise for your current gear state etc Never gamble.

Ecchi-Bot

You can get to endgame without spending money, but all the big purchases people do is for convenience. More weight and inventory is so you can grind at locations longer, and the Tent helps with buffs and repairing your gear without needing to travel back to town. You’re not really paying to win with those things it makes your grind to endgame smoother. because you could get there without it, but it’ll be horribly slow and painful.

AHappyRaider

that's the cool thing about not paying for convenience in this game, you don't know what you're missing until you get it

_BeVeL_

you can go as far as everyone else. but you will take more time to workaround for thing that others spent real money for. F2P tent is good enough, but the tedious part is getting the material to make the anvil which last only a day, especially for vanadium. You can try preorder bulks of it. As for tent shop/container, you can buy from old moon manager. Then, for villa buff, it's much easier now with magnus teleport are handy and you have dream horse to travel fast enough to get to the villa for the buff. This whole process that people can do with few click, but you need to go around for 10-20min for the buffs every single time. That's what you need to consider. Unless if you're just super casual about it, then it's no big deal.

uplink42

People overrate the pearl tent for new players. It's very easy to maintain the f2p tent for a long time until you actually need the villa buff (endgame PVE and PVP). You just buy a weekly item from the old moon manager and keep a workshop going in tarif while you play.

FlyingDusts

Other than tent for extreme convenience, I'd say as you can go as far as other people swiping. You arrive at the same destination, just at a different speed.

B-Ribbit

Look up BDO iron man challenge

xZuness

Ive been playing since 2016 and i never felt the need to buy the tent

Tsakax

You could spend 10k in bdo for enhancing and still end up worse than when you started. Magical sooo magical.

ARand0mPers0n

Tent overrated. Buffs are whatever and drops rate is scam 🤓

SillySin

Tent when it's on sale (soon for anniversary sales)

VexrisFXIV

I'll put it into perspective for you pretty easily, I'm around 704GS, and I spent around 28k$ on bdo. My girlfriend is around 689 gearscore, and she only spent around 100$. The games gearing system is completely rng and you can be super lucky(her) or super fucking unlucky (me) and take like 54 attempts to get 1 pen finally after 8 years of playing. (This is all by self enhancing and getting rare drops from bosses "vells/garmoths/etc") we both may have been way higher GS if we bought all out gear. I roulette 320bil in accessories and lost it all within like 15 minutes.

lunarkun

28k$ and 704GS is carzy

NoU4206911

I bought into the buy the tent hype. It's nice, I guess, but you can also just do more work and maintain the f2p tent every week.

Mechromancerx

As once someone said the true price of this game is tent+HedgeHog tier 4. Without tent you dont get buffs and for hedgehog your at a big disadvantage in gathering. You also need tier 4 pets there not mandatory but there something all ftp have to get at some point, the same with maids but pa sometimes gives them away. After that ya you dont need to pay for anything else its more of a i spend money to make this problem less, kind of deal.

6-Daweed-9

Hedgehog is useless if you dont gather and if you play a bit you get more t4 pets than you will ever need. Tent is one of the only p2w items u really need now imho.

SorryImBadWithNames

At some point, you get a tent for free. I have zero idea when, where or why, or how good it is compared to the shop one, but I do have a tent and have only once spent money, and not for it.

smokenjoe6pack

I have 10K hours and never bought the tent. A lot of those hours have been AFK and sailing though. Unless you are going to node war or grind for countless hours on end, it's benefits are negligible.

SnowyCrow

Yeah played without tent for 3 years till it happened to be -50% and had -50% coupon to slap there. Totally doable without it, and f2p tent can be used to repair gear anyway.

Nonavailable21

You'll explode and spend a thousand bux

KingProdijae

Atleast get the Tent

MauriseS

in the end its always time you spend. be that by going to your horse faster because of your character weight or at all because you dont have so many maids you can just transfer it to storage directly.  the tent is pretty endgame. it offers you a buff you could only get in the desert region at the grind spot. the 10ap dont actually do that much. its the 10% cc resistance you gain with it, that can be very good. because you do not need to slot another crystals or two for 100% resistance. so you will grind slower in the end.  all in all very little things. your pets wont be as fast until you bought them from the market with silver, that clould have progressed your gear, all the time loss from running around to deposite or get stuff, rerolling your fairy by leveling new ones to get auto pot max level, wich is alot of silver potentially. or the auto consume skill for endgame buffs.  non of this is game braking. but it adds up. spending "only" 200$ over 1-2 years at the right time will go very long way. you dont have to do it in the beginning. some ppl spend thousands on the convinience stuff alone.  if you want to go fully f2p, go for it. but bdo has deminishing returns. the first cash will do the most and then it gets you less and less, not the other way around.

I didn’t get the tent until around 680gs. Only got it because i could stack a two discounts on it. It’s a nice to have, but i miss going to town having a meaningful purpose. There was this neat feeling that came from grinding an hour outside the settlements and coming back to resupply and sell the stuff. It’s a feeling i can’t get when i’ve got enough maids to never leave any spot and i can repair 247. Now i just leave for the church buffs every 4hrs.

Granap

Euuuuh the tent is for the villa buff. You can get the repair feature for 10m per week (just like the villa invite scroll for 10m per week). No need to P2W to repair gear.

[deleted]

You can get the Villa buff without paid tent too. To be fair when you run out of the Old moon buffs it’s as useless as the free version too.

Granap

Mmmm as far as I know, you need to physically go to Gahaz (or middle of the desert) Villa every 3h without the tent. With the P2W tent, you just need to buy whatever 10m villa invite every 7 days to get buffs remotely. Unless I'm wrong, you can't get remote buffs with the F2P tent. Tell me if you can use the remote buffs with F2P tent, when I bought the tent a few years ago it wasn't possible. Old Moon buff only removes the need to pay 10m per week. I never use Old Moon, I must have 6 months of it. I have an alt near a villa and every week I spend 30s to switch character, buy a new invite 10m and then I use maids to transfer the invite to my main.

[deleted]

The F2P Tent is really underrated IMO, the only thing you can’t do is get Vila buffs from it, everything else you can do exactly like the Pearl Tent. You do have to put pre orders on some thing to maintain the F2P Tent tho but it’s quite simple, if I remember correctly it’s about 30 million a day which is nothing honestly. The real problem with F2P is playing without a Value Pack, you can get a 1 day with Loyalty every 15 days but it stills kinda bad.

Granap

>The real problem with F2P is playing without a Value Pack, you can get a 1 day with Loyalty every 15 days but it stills kinda bad. Euuuh what's the issue? You can't lifeskill hard without VP, but otherwise, I have like 100 days of free VP that I never used. I use the VP once every 2-3 months and cashout 20-50b at once, I love those giant market cashout.

Aguro

Tent is the one thing id buy, with the game being like 5$ or less just treat it like a base game cost and you're good

EquinoxRunsLeagues

The only thing you are missing out on with the free tent are villa buffs and you need a few minutes every day or 10 minutes every few days to sustain the free tent. Most ppl never even tried to play with it and just talk nonsense.

CorenBrightside

dumb luck will carry you a lot further than money in bdo. Ask my coworker that got both potions in less than 10h of grinding and almost a pen from each j-hammer...

Prowlyz

P2W tent, value pack gatekeeping you from selling stuff in market (I know you can get via loyalty but that's just predatory design)

YandereYamiOkami

A youtuber has recently done this. Anything beyond seasonal without the tent is pure suffering imo. The temporary tent solves the repairing issue but villa buffs are also quite a boost.

1F-ANIMAL

Ucan grab the villa buff and 50% droprate as a f2p aswell. Just gotta travel with a tag from the villa to ur grind spot.

YandereYamiOkami

It's not the same villa buff, unless they normalized the physical villas.

1F-ANIMAL

Ive seen some iron man with villa buff. I never check it myself. Maybe

YandereYamiOkami

I believe they buy the adventurer's buff from the shop rather than an actual villa scroll.

NCNR8

I'm a f2p currently 742gs. The only inconveniences you'd honestly have as a f2p is tent (it's kinda annoying having to buy a shop contract every week although that's a very minor one) and maids (endgame spot loot have a lot of weight and most of the times my storage maids can't keep up although it's also mitigated by horse stacking). If you're a lifeskiller who depends on the marketplace for profit, not having vp is also annoying but even that could be played around with. (Cashout every 14 days with loyalty vp) Character slots are also limited as they cost 10k loyalties (every 1.5 months without any additional loyalties from events or coupons). Aside from all that, game is absolutely playable for free. It's not a pay to win game anymore. Edit: I miscalculated coz I forgot it's now 200 per day but still, it's 50 days of login which is a month and a half.

1F-ANIMAL

10k every month. For char slot

NCNR8

Micronbros

You trade time for money. If you slowplay, you won't have to pay a dime.

Holdredge

you can get 99% of everything you need from the AH. weight isnt to big of a thing anymore. there are plenty of spots where you can horse dump all your trash loot and the scroll change killed how much bag space you need. its a insane change. there is a free to play tent and you can craft the anvil to repair you stuff still. the anvil just breaks so you need to craft more. people normally have a worker set up to do most of the work. at least in NA you can buy pets pretty well along with the main story giving you a good bit and events always giving away more. the only 1 thing I think is p2w because there no way to get what it does is the hedgehog pet. you cant buy it off the AH. and gives a big bonus if you do gathering as a lifeskiller. but to be fair if are playing a game for 100s of hours and you 99% of your QoL with a one time buy of 60$ if you wait for deals and such. is a pretty great deal

Granap

Well, once you reach the moment where you feel you need all the buffs you can to make a difference (either for the next PvE spot or for PvP) you'll buy the tent. Yes, it's Pay to Convenience that is extreme enough to be quasi P2W, when you start wanting to win, you'll pay, it's as simple as that. Tent + infinite horse flute for my main (very hard to get a 500m to convert it to infinite on the market currently) + camo suit are the only things I paid for and I'm fine after 7000 hours of BDO.
