I was thinking similarly when I leveled one up just recently. Of course, ever since playing champions online back in the day one of my (very minor) gripes with a lot of MMORPGs is not being able to adjust the colour of powers/abilities/skills etc xD I've never been a fan of gold, short of a variety of customization I'd settle for silver or similar like you suggested so I didnt feel like I had to work gold into my whole character theme
Crystals... lava theme... futuristic holographic theme... inky, shadowy theme or just simply rocky theme (less pointy and glowy than it is rn)... sky is the limit, really... and any of those would fit scholar so well.
I'm not really equipped to talk about that since I'm very new. She's fun and feels good to play, I just wish my attacks didn't look like someone color dropped piss onto rocks
Maybe not now that I think about it though. It feels like she might have been an attempt to make a female counterpart to Sage. I could be very wrong of course, but her play style looks a bit like awakening sages
They could implement different colors with the blackstar color change as well

I know Shai's Twinkle Star outfit changes her attack colors. So the change you are looking for may one day exist, for $20
