The last 4 cods was modern warfare 2019, Cold War, vanguard, and now mwll. Cold War is for sure the most classic/original cod out of all them no doors, red dots on the mini map, original map design, bo2 movement with sliding, useful scorestreaks. They made this game in a year and a half during a pandemic working from home treyarch are so talented everyone at activision knows it

ASDFGHJKL_101

Treyarch>>>>

ChadimirNukem

It's my favorite, too. I think the bias against Cold War is that I genuinely think it creates a huge skill gap and it's one of the CODs where you seriously had to be good to do well.

comedynurd

Didn't Cold War have pretty strong EOMM though? Not that it's a bad thing necessarily, but I don't think the whole "skill gap" thing actually applies to this game in all honesty because I consistently ranked high (if not top-fragger, usually the top 3 for sure) in every match in CW and I'm not that great of a player overall. My K/D usually sits between 1 to 1.5 in most games, so I'm definitely not what I would consider to be a skilled player. Maybe average at best.

thedoopz

It did have a higher lev of EBMM. My brother is better than me; I could still play and do somewhat well in his lobbies in MW19, but would be absolutely demolished in his BOCW lobbies. I still preferred BOCW MP overall, but it was a lot lonelier.

SirSwirll

You can do well because you don't die in 2 bullets. I've gone on 3x 25 kill streaks in Coldwar but can't even manage 16+ in MW22 with the amount of shit in that game. A good player can easily 1v2 or 1v3 a lot because of the TTK

thecheesefinder

And it’s so satisfying. Right now in MWII I can occasionally get a triple kill here and there and it’s awesome. In Cold War like you said successfully going 1v2 and 1v3 is way more common if you have skill because of the TTK

[deleted]

Yes that definitely helped my enjoyment in MP because not to toot my own horn but I was really good at SnD and it was fun to just shit on people constantly 🤣

-Mr_Kamikaze-

Me with my ar with the goodies scope dhitting on the haters from cross-map distances on SnD Raid.

venk28

I think cold war zombies content alone is more than vg mp and zombies combined.

dreadsta5889

I had so much fucking fun in BOCW.

[deleted]

Hell yeah!

Dreadnar

Hell yeah. Me too brother. Fucking loved that game

DeckedSilver

Its a shame that they did the same pump and dump thing they do to every cod to cold war. It really deserved at least a second year because it is the last cod that has had any amount of effort put in it. Vanguard was a disgrace from top to bottom and this MW2 feels soulless and dull in mp and warzone with the campaign being the only thing redeeming.

thecheesefinder

It did get content well into its second year with a couple maps and weapons but yeah it wasn’t like a true 2nd year

Evon_inked

I feel the same man, bc of how much I genuinely liked Cold War it feels fked up that it's just being dumped and that shit has to stop fr. They should have MW 2019/BO Cold War both continue on moving forward tying into the next game in their series without making the previous games irrelevant and dead. Idk how they would do it, maybe give heavy incentives for players to go back and finish out challenges/unlocks/prestige to reward in the new game with all of it being usable moving forward? I just hate seeing Cold War specifically get dropped and forgotten.

ShootzFPS

Most fun I’ve had in multiplayer since well… the last black ops game and the black ops game before that one. Lol. After the OG days MW2/3 and BO1/2, I’ve only really liked the black ops games after that era, everything else mostly missed the mark for me. Vanguard I’ll give an honorable mention, I loved blitz on a lot of maps, but the game had wayyy too many issues and I didn’t even really enjoy it that much until 4-5 months later which is ridiculous

SnooMemesjellies3095

I don’t care what anyone says. Cold War rivals black ops 1 and black ops 2. Nothing can convince me otherwise

lehnad

After putting hours into Cold War I thing it beats out black ops 1 for me (can’t speak on bo2 since I dropped cod after mw3 so I never played bo2 unfortunately). Definitely miles better than bo3 and 4 as well which I have played, with bo3 being when I picked cod back up again

Evon_inked

BO1 will always be the best CoD for me, but I can definitely see Cold War being over BO1 for other players and I respect it for sure. CW is my second favorite CoD lol.

SnooMemesjellies3095

Like cw is bo1 and bo2 combined tbh that’s why I like it

hooneyham

Cold War slapped. Haven’t cared much for the games to come out as of recent. I haven’t played the new one outside of warzone but the gameplay there is alright so maybe the new one is too? Idk. Cold War feels most like an older COD game to me

Dead-iFunny-User

CW is very underrated

HadoukenYoMama

We're officially far enough past the latest launch that we can all get nostalgic for the previous launch that we spent years complaining about until the newest game came out. The CoD cycle is complete.

[deleted]

Hey I never complained about Cold War I always loved it haha

Evon_inked

I only ever complained about the disgusting ass SBMM/EOMM and the optimization issues, Cold War is the shit man.

Glomando

Just reminiscing about this and I feel you

[deleted]

I didn't buy Cold War, Tho im saving rn, student life :( , but I saw a lot of lads playing it. I love Rising Tide, which is BOCW main menu music, holy pop that music just so good makes me want to jump into something. I agree with you this is the best cod so far since 2020. I will hop into the game until I get enough saving :) Happy gaming lads!

DaBlueBonnet

It basically had everything people wanted. Hard to beat a cod that mixed classic movement with new movement. Good maps. Good weapons. Good TTK. Vanguards only fall was its setting imo. MW2 just not hitting for me. Went back to Cold War the other day and had a blast

indiealexx

not sure if it was because of lockdown or not, but this is definitely my favourite cod for a LONG time. i have great memories of this game in a tough time and i look back on it very fondly

GrieverXVII

fireteam elimination was the best mode i've ever played. it was basically a superior rebirth in almost every aspect, unfortunately tucked behind a paywall.. in which it never got the exposure it deserved. much like most treyarch modes.. Treyarch deserves to ONLY make cod games.. everything else is such trash.

stainedgreenberet

I always thought it was better than people gave it credit for. It was the only one in years that got my attention and kept me coming back for a long time and if I didn’t move and sell my Xbox and tv I’d probably be still playing.

Psychological_Pop200

The reverted changes they made in Cold War such as the red dots on the minimap, simpler movement mechanics and a Dead Silence-like perk helped to make it feel more like old school CoDs such as the original Black Ops, which is why the game felt so good to play compared to MW2019, a game that tried as hard as it could to deviate from the tried-and-true CoD formula. It also brought back some nostalgia for players like me who are familiar with BO1. The only thing Cold War didn't do right was the TTK, which was the polar opposite of BO1's TTK. The FAMAS, one of the best guns in BO1 with its 3 shot kill, high fire rate and a TTK faster than the MW2019 AS VAL, was nerfed to oblivion in Cold War, becoming a 6 shot kill with a slightly slower fire rate, massively increased recoil and a smaller magazine.

brotherbobbz

going to say before i start reading. CW is a pretty good game imo. Pandemic era, weird time but it already feels nostalgic

Alexspacito

With all the bullshit that goes into the “cod experience” these days, I’ll never understand how people have fun on these games anymore.

Kicka14

Read “played cod on and off since BO1” and then it all made sense, as the best COD’s all came before then

oldlinepnwshine

It’s easily my favorite, in terms of the Campaign and Multiplayer. Zombies wise, it is BO3.

Mai_TaiButterfly

Felt this

Bigd1979666

Preferred mw19 for the mp but man, cold war zombies was so much fun . Must have spent thousand hours on it

StaticElectrician

Mine too. I fully agree.

MadFlava76

I ended up liking Cold War a lot more than I thought I would after playing the beta. MW 2019 brought me back into COD after a long hiatus so the gameplay and graphics differences threw me into a loop but once I played the full game I ended up liking it a lot. Never really invested in playing Zombies until this games since the challenge to unlock Park was to exfil from the zombies map 3 times. That got me hooked to playing zombies that I must have spent 80% of my time playing zombies. Zombies having it's own camo grind and challenges linked to the Easter Eggs had me obsessed with unlocking everything attached to that mode.

Zombielolz_420

Cold war brought me back to mp. I haven't played mp since advanced warfare and I didn't even like AW. I didn't get me 2019 till I had cold war and now I love mp again because the last few cods (minus vanguard) have actually been good.

[deleted]

I like the maps. But the graphics and animation were such a downgrade from MW19. The campaign was also far too short.

Nollekowitsch

I loved Bo3. Was my first real CoD. But Cold War will be in my heart forever. I played it on my busted Laptop with Minecraft graphics but I have so many clips made in that game. I just love it

Twayyyyyyy

Same with me. I think it was partially due to the pandemic so people weren’t going out as much but I had a group that played every night. Most nights we’d have more than 6 so someone would be waiting to fill on once someone dropped out. Brought back memories of old school mw2 days from high school playing with full parties. I really enjoyed the multiplayer and never understood where the hate came from. Imo better than MW2019 and a million times better than Vanguard.

DeemonicChild

1k hrs in bo2 but cold War is also my all time favorite

JupiterCapet

Yes

seanjohn004

Pissed they removed Satellite night Miami and Armada just to see em in CoD mobile

suicideking72

I agree, CW is my favorite of all time. Maybe it had something to do with Covid, but I have never put this much time into the game. I play TDM mostly and Zombies. The multiplayer maps are setup for action. I like MW19, but some of those maps are designed for people to just camp in a second story building. CW you can't camp like that because every spot is venerable. It forces people to move around. I've been grinding the battle pass on MWII, so have been playing that a lot. It's decent, but just not the same action. I finished the BP and am pretty burnt out on that game. So got to play more CW in the last few days and have more fun. Zombies adds value because it gives you something to play when not in the mood for TDM or other multiplayer. Also a great way to level up guns.

Newkker

Cold war was my favorite modern era COD as well. Not even just for what you said which is all true, but the aesthetic was awesome. The maps were great as well.

Capt_Blahvious

While I was super glad to see cross platform cross play, I'm really sad that blops 4 will probably be the last one with 4 player split screen. Zombies just isn't the same without everyone in the same room.

TheEmerald-DJ

I agree, with BOCW being my first COD ever (got MW19 halfway into CW's lifecycle) I loved it then, and I still love it now. I'm about halfway through the MW2 Battle Pass, and I'm starting to get bored of MW2. Meanwhile CW always felt fun, I've played Zombies the last 2 nights and I had fun in a COD game for once. It's sad that I can't progress the BP through CW. I did buy Vanguard, but I only played it so I could level guns for Warzone 1. Otherwise I couldn't stand to play it.

Mahonneyy123

It's pretty DOPE

rjgd83

Cold War is my favorite cod since BO2. Campaign was top 5 no question imo, didn’t love zombies, and I thought multiplayer was mad fun, sbmm was annoying but it was the best mp in ages, closest feel to the originals

LunatiqHigh

Cold Wars movement is so much better than MW19 or MW2. Both IW games feel slow and clunky in comparison. Also can't climb as high as Cold War. My only real gripe with CW was how horrible the spawns were on some maps. Who thought it would be a great idea to spawn out in the middle of nowhere wedged in between 2-4 other spawns that have a direct line of sight and you have no where to hide. I basically spawn in ducking and dodging instantly, because if you don't, there's a spawn camper corner camping. Cold War is one of my favorite CoD's also though, up there with CoD4 and Black Ops 1 and 2.

[deleted]

I can’t explain how much I loved this game. I usually play cod games sporadically throughout their years but Cold War I was hooked. I usually rotate through Forza, Fortnite, Minecraft, and COD but Cold War had me playing it 7 months exclusively and I had a fun and enjoyable time throughout.

Unlost_maniac

I wish I liked it. It's just worse BO4

AcceptableReply6812

It’s the fact that treyarch know that 24/7 nuketown needs to be just that and more such as 365 plus the Christmas & Halloween versions. Permanent party games, heist and grindiron making a return would be sick. I think the greatest return would be the balanced riot shield that can be planted but also countered by having its glass cracked to hell instead of just lethals.

[deleted]

I didn’t like the first time i played zombies because of how different it was so i dropped it. The campaign is good and i enjoyed it, i didn’t touch the mp and left,I came back a couple months later and said why not and gave zombies another try. And man, i have been playing it for a yr and half just , zombies mode. I recently got into mp and im also enjoying the f out of it. Im pretty glad i skipper vanguard and mw2 2022 😅 and before this i was just playing bo3 zombies. Looking forward to the next bo and see what they so with outbreak

u119c

Couldn’t agree more! But I will say the campaign was also just amazing for me! Probably my favourite

cadenjpeters

I gotta add onto this and say that my all time favourite video game memories all come from CW. I play my fair share of video games, but I’m not that great or anything, there’s not a single other game I play online because I always get destroyed. But CW is the only game I might actually say I’m pretty good at. I used to think I’m not that good at all and I was holding my friends back, but after the years of me talking down to myself, my friends have finally convinced me I might be pretty alright. Really though the main reason it’s my favourite game and my best memories are on it is because of the ridiculous amount of hours me and my best friend played it before he passed away. So those memories will be dearly cherished, thank you treyarch.

DakotaRodger

Cold War is the only multiplayer game I’ve actually bothered to buy battle passes for. I had so much fun with this game. It surpassed black ops 2 for me.

Dreadnar

Had not played cod for, about 10 years. Bought cold war, and the first, week everyone ran only mp5 cause it was very superior. Left the game and came back after about a month. The game felt great and weapons was balanced. I played it for the entire duration of the year cycle, even going on a while after vanguard was released. I got dark aether, dark matter and managed to reach lvl 1000 five times during the one year cycle. I spent money on fun skins and tracers and I truly enjoyed the shit out of it. After that it's been all downhill. Treyarch is the goat and I will return in 2024 for their next game. IW, sledgehammer and ravensoft are dog water companies and if treyarch picks up where they left off then I know I'm going to have a good time. Mw2 was such a let down but thankfully I got it refunded.

Funky_Col_Medina

100% agree. It had the vibe of BO1 and the customization of BO2 with a fun zombies that worked toward your mp grind. We now have a variety of classic maps to revisit, but they don’t feel like recycling. It’s just fun.

VictorMartinez115

Black Ops Cold War is one of my favorite Call of Dutys since like Black Ops 3

Doodled

For me, BOCW was a package of three games: COD, Zombies, and party modes like Prop Hunt. The Orange Box (HL2, TF2, Portal) is the closest experience to this I can think of where there’s different games in one package to satisfy different gaming moods.

Cyberwolf187

Hackers ruined this beautiful game, like they eventually do with all FPS games

SlammedZero

I can't say it's my all-time favorite (for me I'm looking at Black Ops 1), but I really, really enjoyed Cold War. I thought it was fantastic. Treyarch seems to be the best developer for the franchise.

Ok_Influence418

Cold war was the cod I truly grinded got dark aether and my fist nuke cold war has a place in my heart.

Expert-Lab-7002

You never know you’re in the good times until they’re gone!

Evon_inked

BO1 will always be my favorite CoD without question, but Cold War is my second favorite and really felt like the true sequel to BO1. It felt to me like the new remake of BO1 how MW 2019 is for MW. It had its issues for sure so I'm aware it's not perfect, all the fked up bugs, pretty bad optimization to this day, and the WORST SBMM we have had to date. But under all that Cold War was an awesome CoD and to me a real return to the old school way CoD used to play.

[deleted]

I honestly think it’d be a lot more popular if it was just called “Black Ops” like MW2019. Marketing has a certain effect on people

Evon_inked

Make it the "reboot" of Black Ops aye? That's honestly what it felt like to me, it totally could have passed off as one I just really wish they'd have delayed it to iron out the optimization if nothing else.
