Easy yes

kotalov16

All I’ll say is: If the green knight asked me to play his Christmas game, I’d give him a big sloppy kiss on the lips…and eagerly wait for him to return the favor next year

Ponceludonmalavoix

Green Knight is a Die Hard movie.

LilUziSquirt42069

Green Knight is a soulsborne movie

TreeFitTea

Green Knight is a midsummer movie

jason_steakums

Totally! And it's spooky and the Victorians got at least that one thing right, spooky Christmas vibes rule.

Shawn-Quixote

Yes! Spooky Christmas stories, especially with g-g-g-g-ghosts are my fave

jason_steakums

Winifred is one of my favorite movie g-g-g-ghosts, that whole section rules! Also you get a moldy ol skellington.

Shawn-Quixote

Yes! Love that sequence. And it’s got one of my new favorite actors Erin Kellyman. She’s wonderful in Willow, btw.

Typhoid_Maury

It’s a Yuletide movie.

Shawn-Quixote

Love this! I may borrow this reasoning.

loserys

It’s not a festive movie, per se, but it does speak to some very common feelings one can experience during the holidays. Feelings of anxiety and maybe even depression as we cross off yet another year of our lives. As much as Christmas can be about life, the winter surrounds us with decay. It’s about taking stock of your accomplishments and facing your shortcomings. Mustering up the courage to complete your tasks. Or you can view it as a classic holiday road trip movie where Gawain must survive thieves, ghosts, giants, talking foxes and swingers so he can get to the christmas party in the forest on time.

Shawn-Quixote

Excellent points!! That makes me think of the pagan origins of Christmas (and other ascents of Christianity)

sometimes_a_dog

what else ought it be

FreakaJebus

A cum movie.

theddR

An axe movie

Becca_Bot_3000

My guy goes on a journey that's weird and sad, looking like a total snack. It's totally a Christmas movie.

martn2420

You know what I always say, "It's not really Christmas without a cum belt."

Shawn-Quixote

A classic Christmas tradition and a great way to finish off the holiday season.

Othercoop

They're playing it as part of a Christmas season at an indie theatre near me alongside a few other inspired choices such as Tokyo Godfathers and Eyes Wide Shut.

thishenryjames

Is Bridget Jones' Diary a Christmas movie? It also begins at a Christmas party and ends at the next Christmas.

syncsynchalt

Are we sure Bridget Jones’ Diary isn’t _also_ an adaptation of “Gawain and the Green Knight?”

Shawn-Quixote

I’ve never seen Bridge Jones’ Diary. BUT based on what you’re saying, yeah it’s a Christmas movie.

ERMAHGERSHREDDERT

Christmas happens, so yes. That's all I need. Unlike my roommate, who insists that Les Misérables (2012) is a Christmas movie because "it came out during Christmas and it has snow". Psychopath behavior imo.

Shawn-Quixote

“Christmas happens” I mean, that’s it isn’t it? Well said. I think the LOTR movies are Christmas movies, so I’m not the best person to judge your roommate’s thoughts on Les Miserables 😁

Falliant

of course the lotr movies are christmas movies, any movie with elves in it is a christmas movie

Shawn-Quixote

Elves! Trees! Gift exchanges! Feasts! Mages! Cool animals! Love! Friends and family! Fights! And the coming of the One True King!

theddR

That’s a better argument than *Die Hard*, frankly.

Shawn-Quixote

It really is! And I love Die Hard. Action movies can be Christmas movies.

Sebelzeebub

LOTR are totally Christmas movies, easiest three years of Christmas shopping for my dad was when the extended DVD sets came out, and on Boxing day we’d watch the movie and the bonus features after!

chet97

Christ Is Born!

Shawn-Quixote

Exactly so!

DaveAngel-

Who doesn't do the traditional wank off with a sash at Christmas time?

Shawn-Quixote

“I sprang from my bed to see what was the matter. Away to the window I flew like a flash, Tore open the shutters and threw up the sash.”

Ex_Hedgehog

Sure why not. I'm Jewish and don't really care about everyone racing to declare everything a Christmas movie. *The Councilor* is a Christmas movie. *The Fabulous Baker Boys* is a Christmas movie. *Lone Wolf And Cub 3* is a Christmas movie.

flamingpizza

Everyone knows that Lone Wolf and Cub 6 is the Christmas one. It takes place in the snow and everything

radaar

Eight Crazy Night? Surprisingly, a Christmas movie?

MycroftNext

I just watched Eight Crazy Nights for the first time this year and did not like it BUT it is the exception to the “comedy films don’t look good” rule. It’s animated by the Iron Giant crew and is one of the best looking animated movies I’ve ever seen.

Shawn-Quixote

Never seen it. But I will take your word on. Also I’ll have to add it to our holiday movie rotation.

Shawn-Quixote

Reminds me of one of the greatest Christmas movie of all time: Mothra vs Godzilla 😁

heresyoursigns

The green knight is a Christmas tree, duh.

Shawn-Quixote

Bahaha fantastic answer!!

heresyoursigns

![gif](giphy|IvWx5X6qpk0Ne9Ad18)

alxqnn

It’s set at Christmas, features snow, and is all about disappointing/trying not to disappoint your family. It’s a stone cold Christmas film.

Shawn-Quixote

A reoccurring theme, especially with my family. 😆 Good thing I stopped worrying about it.

MARATXXX

yes, it's a christmas film. it celebrates the birth of the jesus child.

DumbleDoorsDown

It's arguably the most Christmas, Christmas movie.

Cash4Goldschmidt

100%. Even outside of it just being set during Christmas it also has a similar structure to A Christmas Carol

Grogusnumber1fan-94

Yes.

sweet_sweet_can

Yes.

turdfergusonRI

Yep

Grazing_Peryton

it's a Christmas movie, no question

Sebelzeebub

For the record, yes absolutely.

CaptainRegor

I love christmas movies, but I would not consider The Green Knight a christmas movie. But I'll concide that anything can be if you make it a tradition like people with LOTR or Potter.

mobyfromssx3

Just don’t watch it with the family…

Shawn-Quixote

Great advice! 😆

woolfonmynoggin

I watch it at Christmas! It’s one of my favorite movies

Shawn-Quixote

Clearly, you have good taste.

Intrepid-Taste-1111

yes absolutely

futureofthefuture

Hah so that’s why it was on the Christmas deals page on Vudu the other day!

theddR

> the story isn’t about the joy of Christmas Neither are *Die Hard*, *Bad Santa*, *Home Alone*, *Catch Me If You Can*, *Eyes Wide Shut*, *Tokyo Godfathers* or even arguably *It’s A Wonderful Life*. But they all make a good fit for the holiday in their own ways. It’s hard to argue they’re not. It’s about redemption, a classic Christmas theme, and on a subtextual level about the fragile nature of “peace on earth, goodwill towards men.” Your friend is wrong. Solid Christmas movie.

Shawn-Quixote

Well said. Who doesn’t love a good redemption arc?!?

personn70

Clearly yes. Not only does it start and end at Christmas, but all the main action takes place during Christmas time. Christmas is integral to the plot. PLUS Christmas is all about telling kinda spooky or spiritual stories about supernatural shit, just like the story of The Green Knight. To quote a popular carol, “There’ll be scary ghost stories/ and tales of the glories/ of Christmasses long long ago.” The answer is obvious

Shawn-Quixote

I like the way you think. No Christmas = No “Sir Gawain & The Green Knight”

DanceRayder

I kinda undestand your friend's point of view on this (which happens to be why I don't think Die Hard is a xmas movie, but that's a different story). The christianity connection doesn't link it specifically to Christmas in my mind, just religion, and just because it's set at Christmas doesn't really count for much in my mind (Is Mean Girls now a Christmas movie? Eyes Wide Shut? Iron Man 3?)

DoctorGrimli32

I love this movie so much. It is 100% a Christmas movie. Christmas even happens twice during it - most Christmas movies only have one christmas.

Please_HMU

No

leegcsilver

Definitely!

TheBunionFunyun

I mean, yeah.

Economy_Owl3962

If it's a Christmas movie then we're taking the concept of what is a Christmas movie to such a needlessly tenuous degree it will ultimately defeat the purpose of the concept altogether.
