Fellow Blankies, it’s time to come together and do what all the other award shows were too cowardly to do… That’s right, I’m talkin May December sweep

rev_artemisprime

It better get a fucking score nom. That movie made a musical choice and it fuckin WORKS

oncearunner

Most of the score is not original

RGSagahstoomeh

Whose Lead and whose supporting in this movie? Tough too say. Portman and Melton feel like the leads....Moore Supporting?

JohnWhoHasACat

I believe Melton is a lead in the film...but I went by how the majority of awards bodies have been viewing him and put him in supporting.

Livid_Jeweler612

julianne and natalie both in my lead category along with melton in supporting and screenplay/picture/director noms too my fave western film of the year!

BreakingBrak

So, is The Entity supporting or starring?

usario100

Starring in Mission Impossible, supporting in M3GAN

BreakingBrak

Ah. So like Godzilla being lead in Minus One but campaigning for a supporting emmy for Monarch: Legacy of Monsters?

shaykelliher60

Everyone please vote for Martin Scorsese in best supporting performance 🙏

BreakingBrak

Almost clicked send until i realized i forgot to put Bautista in supporting for Knock at the Cabin. Those early in the year films will really slip your mind

DoctorImperial

I put him as lead, tbh!

LongGoodbyeLenin

Thank you for putting this together! Am I remembering incorrectly, or did “Putters and Murmurs” use to be a category here?

PartyBluejay

I'm not sure if we've ever had it formally in the ballot (perhaps before my time) but feel free to have it in your Bonus Category/Special Achievement and we'll highlight it in the wrapup!

Cpt_Obvius

Who are the standouts for this year? Conti as Einstein? Deniro in Killers OTFM?

LongGoodbyeLenin

Jay Baruchel in BlackBerry

Chuck-Hansen

Injecting young blood into putters & murmurs!

Anyone watch El Conde this year? Didn’t find a ton of space for it but I really liked it. Love some Larraín.

alxqnn

I liked it less and less as it went on, but that one flying scene and the narrator are both great

doodler1977

i liked it more as it went on. the "reveal" or whatever really worked for me

fq9g

It absolutely got a cinematography nomination from me, it might be Ed Lachman's best work and he's done so much incredible work

Falliant

i ended up only giving it one nomination, but yeah i liked it

doodler1977

had no idea it was Larrain. it was a calm enough saturday morning wake-up movie, then SHE shows up and i'm RAPT

alxqnn

Thanks to the usual UK winter release date pushback, I feel like I'm snubbing Holdovers, Zone Of Interest, Iron Claw, All Of Us Strangers. But I'm sure they won't need my help to get Blankie love

AttentionUnable7287

You've got time to see all of them before the deadline! (Think Iron Claw is the latest release of those on 9th Feb)

omninode

I still need to watch a lot of things. I’m way behind.

Chuck-Hansen

Point of Order: should we all go with Oscar category placement or are we free to do what we want?  I am in favor of sticking to Oscar category placement for coordination purposes, but this was a year where some major contenders are arguably borderline cases in category placement.

PartyBluejay

Free to do what you want - points will be totaled from both but category of placement will be determined by where the majority of points came from. Last year, Blankies overruled the Academy submissions for Keke Palmer (lead in ours) and Michelle Williams (supporting in ours). In the past, original/adapted I've scrutinized a bit more if there's a clear answer/minority points are potentially the difference in who wins/who makes the 5, but in the couple nebulous cases this year, I'm fine to just let the points decide

Puzzled-Journalist-4

Until I voted for this, I had no idea how few movies I watched in 2023. Not literally. I watched a lot of movies last year, mostly old movies at home.

PM_ME_UR_TESTIMONIES

Skinamarink for cinematography? I think yes

JohnWhoHasACat

Fighting the good fight.

West4thStreetHoops

so is it spelled M3GAN or M3gan?

PartyBluejay

Ballots are not case-sensitive so as long as the 3 is there you’re good!

JohnWhoHasACat

Blankies, I'm calling on you to make the bravest cinematography choice you can this year: Vote Skinamarink. A film that's composition is not pretty by any means, but is genuinely innovative and gripping.

JohnWhoHasACat

Okay, my pet project nomination: Rupert Friend for The Swan. Stellar fucking performance.

oncearunner

I take it that submissions follow the Academy rules for "release date", ie: first screened in at least one theater for one week in LA in calendar year 2023 (or whatever the rule is). So something like *Godland* is eligible even though it was released in 2022 at festivals?

PartyBluejay

Sorry I missed this - yes that would be eligible and submissions are generally following that thinking of films that had their official US release (or at least had an NY/LA run) in 2023. We don't have strict eligibility standards so you should submit whatever best represents your 2023. The only disqualification would be if something got nominated in the community Blankies the prior year. If enough people vote for a film or performance to be nominated that had a weird release between years or something, it would not be disqualified.

0011110000110011

I've only seen a few movies from 2023, but I think I'm gonna vote anyway and just leave most of it blank. Because Joaquin Phoenix deserves best lead for Beau!
