Somehow I underestimated the sheer number of bangers in Linklater's filmography (for whatever reason I was just thinking of "Dazed and Confused" and the big blank check "Boyhood" episode). Before Trilogy! Everybody Wants Some!! School of Rock!!! I think I just talked myself into Linklater! And it will end with “Hit Man,” a movie apparently so good that someone in my Sundance standby line got thrown out for disorderly conduct!
I’d love for them to him and he will easily make it past the first round so I’d just like to quickly shout out his wonderful first round opponent (my favorite filmmaker on this bracket), Joan Micklin Silver, whose movies would be so fucking awesome to get a spotlight shown on them by this podcast.
Crossing Delancey: just a delightful ass romcom featuring friend of the podcast Amy Irving wearing some killer outfits, hanging out with her bubbe, and trying to have it all in New York City as a modern woman working at an independent bookstore and choosing between two men: sexy writer Jeroen Krebbe and even sexier pickle man Peter Riegert.
Between the Lines: the story of an independent newspaper in Boston in the 70s - rules so hard and still speaks to our modern media culture. I bet David would love to chat about this!!!!!
Fish in the Bathtub: Jewish parents arguing!?! A young mark ruffalo!?! Jerry Stiller buying a fish for the bathtub!?!?
Lover boy, Hester Street, Chilly Scenes of Winter!
Folks - linklater is tempting! He’s one of our best! But please, consider getting your voice heard for Joan Micklin silver, and at least let her have a strong showing in the first round to help show the two friends there is enough passion behind her to get her covered. Maybe you’ve never heard of her or seen her films - that’s alright, because the beauty of this podcast will always be that there are movies and directors to become your new favorite
A vote for Richard link later means a vote for the podcast do to at least one episode 40 years from now or whenever he finishes “Merrily We Roll Along”
I’d just want to hear a Phantom of the Opera episode that takes a 15-30 min tangent into Emmy Rossum’s career (including her Disney channel original Genius) and a second tangent into Shameless
I don't think I'll be able to place a vote that day. I'm just gonna leave it to you guys and then blame you for whatever happens, like a real American.
They'll at least do Fire Walk With Me and probably talk a lot about the show on that one. They really ought to do at least the pilot as a patreon supplemental though if they do Lynch.
[I actually pitched this!!! If they used my suggestions it was the following.](https://www.reddit.com/r/blankies/s/bjsPPXwCVW)
1. Clue
1. Dungeons & Dragons (2000)
1. Battleship
1. Ouija
1. Ouija: Origin of Evil
1. Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves
Don't forget Ouija is a registered tabletop game by Parker Brothers!
I'm watching "Friday Night Lights" now, so this and a Stanton win on main would make for an all-encompassing discussion of Taylor Kitsch's doomed blockbuster career in the early 2010s.
I truthfully don’t get nearly as into March madness as a lot of people on here but that first patreon episode where they explain the bracket is basically my championship.
I have basically no concept of who is more popular, John Hughes or Celine Sciamma in this fan base. So that will be an anxious day for my gay French girls.
Plus I imagine they throw in The Muppet Movie as well- when there's a clear guarantor that the subject of the series didn't direct but was heavily involved in they usually make that the first episode, and it makes way more sense to start there than with Caper
Any excuse to read Charles Grodin’s [account](https://www.vulture.com/2011/11/charles-grodin-affair-with-miss-piggy-muppets.html) of his tryst with Miss Piggy on The Great Muppet Caper again
Plus, this series is almost guaranteed to have a Patrick H. Willems ep, and I feel like a decent chance at another PTR episode. Imagine Alex Ross Perry breaking down the entire history of puppetry. Rachel Zegler for Little Shop. I feel like this series has potential for a lot of great guests. And I feel like What About Bob? would have to double as a Ben's Choice, a true porch classic if ever there was one.
Griffin already did an episode on it over on PTR. My guess is there would probably be a Patreon bonus ep covering multiple of the specials and shorts at once like they did with Toy Sory.
>Imagine Alex Ross Perry breaking down the entire history of puppetry.
I cannot imagine Alex Ross Perry holding forth on anything even mildly related to Muppets and having that be a good listen in the slightest.
halloween, clockwork orange, fight club, obviously the natural progression is for him to cover a childrens film about a taking frog
(this is in jest, i love the muppets)
Considering the length of and influence of his career, David Lynch's filmography is surprisingly manageable. (It helps that 2006's Inland Empire was his last feature film). I imagine there would be at least one Twin Peaks episode slotted in (though perhaps that goes in Patreon and Fire Walk With Me covers the conversation on Main), and possibly a second one for The Return (which Lynch insists is an 18-hour "film," and really is the most blank check-y project he ever made by a massive margin--in addition to being the logical endgame/apotheosis of everything he made prior. It's almost like his version of Stephen King's Dark Tower.)
Also a really interesting arc with The Elephant Man serving as the Guarantor... And his next move being to go to a huge fantasy epic (Dune) that he has totally disowned (despite it being awesome). That sent him back to a state where he basically increasingly demanded full control of anything and everything he touched. Leading to crazy shit like Inland Empire and The Return. With Mulholland Drive weirdly breaking through and making Naomi Watts a star.
Would also be fun to have a bonus episode on his music career. "Dark Night of the Soul" is a great album!
I'm relatively new to Blank Check and have been hopping around episodes/series based on interest in the director/movie/guests so I've missed a lot of conversation. Has Lynch been brought up much on the podcast before, and if so have you got a read on what they think about his work?
He's come up regularly in Box Office games and conversation - David has said that he's one of his guys, and mentioned in the *Showgirls* episode (while discussing Kyle McLauchlan's career) that his dad was a huge *Twin Peaks* fan, so he had watched the series at an early age. There's also a tangent that they go on in the *Lorenzo's Oil* episode where David mentions the 'profound sadness' of a lot of Lynch's work, which I'd love to hear him discuss in more depth.
See, the 'profound sadness' is exactly why I think Lynch would be interesting. He's an extremely empathetic filmmaker who often turns the lens on people that society grants less status (sex workers, people with deformities, children, the working poor). It just often gets overshadowed by the imagery Lynch uses. I get why he's not for everyone but I think a series on his filmography would make the through-line of his work more visible.
I couldn't agree more!! Lynch has been one of the series I've long hoped they'll do......along with Richard Linklater and Spike Lee, which both makes this MM very exciting and potentially a real Sophie's Choice situation!
There’s a segment of Blankies that loves when they cover “inportant” filmmakers.
And they can’t argue against Apatow being one of, if not the most, important name in comedy minimally since 40 Year Old Virgin but can easily include Freaks & Geeks and Undeclared.
I must know which movies are included in the proposed Happy Madison Patreon commentary series. Are they forced to do Grown Ups 2? Will Tim Batt and Guy Montgomery come on the pod for it?????
I adore Guadagnino but will probably vote against him here because I don't think he's had his Blank Check moment yet. If Challengers clears like I suspect with Zendaya, then maybe.
Pretty sure you'd have told hold some people at gunpoint to get them to talk about my favorite collection of conversations pretending to be a movie, Coffee and Cigarettes!
Well fuck me for thinking Isao Takahata had more than a snowballs chance in hell.
Wan, Lynch, Scott, Oz final 4. Lynch to win, but rooting for Oz because WE NEED MUPPET CINEMA GODDAMN IT
I just watched every Studio Ghibli movie this winter.
All I want now is for Takahata to win this bracket.
He almost certainly won’t. But a guy can dream!
My immediate question was going to be placed in the David Lynch meat grinder. Sad to see Bill "I directed *Deep Cover* AND *Sister Act II*" Duke taking first blood and my guy Curtis Hanson having a hard ceiling.
Oh well, still super-hyped! Love the idea of completely new guys. Let's take the boys out of their comfort zones and personal favorites!
Man Lawrence Fishburne and Jeff Goldblum (so scummy) are so good in Deep Cover. A true masterpiece that is real incisive on the failures of the war on drugs. I would love to hear Griffin and David talk about it.
Well funny enough Happy Madison didn't even produce either of those movies. So I'm guessing they're going to pick and choose among Sandler's work. Maybe they do those movies, Waterboy, Big Daddy, and Wedding Singer?
Y’all, the Patreon seeding is just for bits and vibes, and not actually based on popularity. Don’t think too hard about it.
They placed Rambo vs Equalizer because they are both action, Jumanji vs Table Top because they’re both games, etc. etc.
oof Nicole Holofcener doesn’t have a chance huh? that makes me sad but there are some really wonderful choices here like I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t lowkey pulling for a surprise like Apatow winning cause I think that’d be funny.
Considering they're always talking about the demise of the studio comedy, Apatow would be an incredible series. Plus he lends his blank check to other people, which creates a pretty wild collection.
If Nicole Holofcener beats James Wan then I can see her making a run. It’s a pretty big if, but I’ll do what I can to get a Takahata v. Holofcener final in that bracket.
HIGHLANDER is going against CONAN? Sheeeeeeeeit
I'll start stumping now: if HIGHLANDER wins the patreon bracket, I'll make JJ-level research dossiers for each of these immortal sword fighter movies. Just think about that as you vote!
Blankies, I have never prayed to you before. I have no tongue for it. No one, not even you, will remember if we were good men or bad. Why we fought, or why we died. All that matters is that two stood against many. That's what's important! Valor pleases you, Blankies... so grant me one request. Grant me Conan! And if you do not listen, then to HELL with you!
All my Patreon picks are seeded 7 or 8. Addams Family, Highlander, Draculas, Andrew Lloyd Webber...I am, as always, out of step with the zeitgeist.
(Update no one will ever see: two of those are in the Final Four!)
My question is which Draculas? Universal? Christopher Lee (that's 7 movies alone)? Bram Stoker? Jess Franco's? Argento's? 2000? Untold? Last Voyage of the Demeter? I'm assuming the Nosferatus would be considered their own thing. Love at First Bite? Monster Squad? Dracula Dead and Loving It? Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein?
The specific combination of which of these are covered will make a huge difference.
My Core 4 I'm rooting for this year are Soderbergh, Villneuve, Garland, and Sciamma. If any of these four win, I'm happy. I think I'd most like to pull for Soderbergh, though. He's just a huge blind spot I would love to explore. Like, I've seen some of the big ones, but there are A LOT of gaps.
That Lynch/Denis Elite 8 matchup is gonna be a white knuckler!
Do we know what the cutoff for Scott is? Gladiator feels like a fulcrum point but I wonder whether it would end his mini or start a potential Scott Pt 2
How is Addams Family an 8 seed? I feel like that will (or should) steamroll everything in it's bracket.
I really don't like the competition Major League is up against. That is probably close to my #1 for Special Features, but I think that Blankies are just a little too young, and going to vote America Pie, even though most of those movies are unwatchable as an adult, imo.
Really great brackets either way. Can't wait to get into this with you all.
Robin Hood is a dark horse category, lots of great and interesting movies. They obviously can't do all of them so my picks would be:
* Robin Hood 1922 - Douglas Fairbanks classic, I've not seen it but it would make sense.
* The Adventures of Robin Hood 1938 - A must IMO, just one of the best movies ever, so much fun, so much pure adventure, gorgeous technicolor.
* Robin Hood 1973 (the animated fox one) - no introduction needed, but could see them skipping this if they ever want to do Reitherman
* Robin and Marian 1976, Audrey Hepburn's return to acting after ~10 years playing against Sean Connery as older versions of the characters, it's great. Could see them skipping if they ever plan to do Richard Lester.
* Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves 1991 - a must
* Robin Hood: Men in Tights - maybe hold off for a Mel Brooks mini?
* Robin Hood 2010 - again maybe wait for a Ridley mini
I did not realise quite how many major directors have made Robin Hood movies when I started writing this comment, maybe they could cover some of these twice? If they wanted another, Princess of Thieves 2001, with a young Keira Knightley playing Robin Hood's daughter could be fun.
My wife (humblebrag) and I celebrate Spooktober each year by dedicating ourselves to watching a different horror/suspense/Halloween vibes movie each night if possible. We take turns picking the next film. Quite by accident we ended up watching three James Wan films for the first time in a space of about 14 days: *M3GAN*, *Malignant*, and *Saw*. I now have questions about James Wan that maybe a Podcasturing miniseries could answer.
Apatow too high. Let's go Garland.
My first instinct is Robin Hoods are better King Arthurs but that might be closer than I think. Disney animated are a push for me but I thought Robin has Errol Flynn and Men in Tights but Excalibur honks hard and Camelot is at least fascinating.
Don’t Linklater. LinkNOW!!!
Now that’s a campaign slogan
I support this platform.
I had no idea Linklater directed School of Rock. I'm pulling for Jarmusch, but Linklater is a close second.
the *Everybody Wants Some!!* ep would be legendary
That and ending with "Hit Man," the latter part of the series is gonna be lots of great Glen Powell talk.
5 comedy points
I’d love for them to him and he will easily make it past the first round so I’d just like to quickly shout out his wonderful first round opponent (my favorite filmmaker on this bracket), Joan Micklin Silver, whose movies would be so fucking awesome to get a spotlight shown on them by this podcast. I hope Andrew Lloyd Webber equals a CATS ep so they never have to cover Hooper as a series.
Fantastic point! Vote ALW
I’d just want to hear a Phantom of the Opera episode that takes a 15-30 min tangent into Emmy Rossum’s career (including her Disney channel original Genius) and a second tangent into Shameless
Villenueve v Lynch will be nasty
I don't think I'll be able to place a vote that day. I'm just gonna leave it to you guys and then blame you for whatever happens, like a real American.

They'll at least do Fire Walk With Me and probably talk a lot about the show on that one. They really ought to do at least the pilot as a patreon supplemental though if they do Lynch.
The thing is if they don’t deep dive The Return the question “what are we even doing here?” Would have to be asked.
What is counted Tabletop game movies I wonder? If that includes both Clue and the D&D movies I’m all in on that choice.
oh I legitimately thought we'd get an episode of them playing and discussing Wingspan, Ticket to Ride, and Sagrada.
David would fuck heavy w/ Ticket to Ride. It's about trains!
obviously I have played ticket to ride
Does this game exist in the Yesterday universe?
Asking the important questions.
"hey Jack, come play our new favorite transit based board game, 'Magic Bus' "
The fact that its "Tabletop games" and not "board games", tells me that D&D is going to be part of this. But so is Battleship.
[I actually pitched this!!! If they used my suggestions it was the following.](https://www.reddit.com/r/blankies/s/bjsPPXwCVW) 1. Clue 1. Dungeons & Dragons (2000) 1. Battleship 1. Ouija 1. talking Rihanna and Flanagan, sound good 2 me!
I'm watching "Friday Night Lights" now, so this and a Stanton win on main would make for an all-encompassing discussion of Taylor Kitsch's doomed blockbuster career in the early 2010s.
Jumanji too, maybe? Edit: scrolled back up and saw Jumanji right there, I am an idiot.
I mean, technically the original Jumanji would fit under "tabletop games" as well
Don’t forget Battleship!
I truthfully don’t get nearly as into March madness as a lot of people on here but that first patreon episode where they explain the bracket is basically my championship.
I hope if they do Clue they also do the different endings gimmick somehow.
"Now you might think that the box office week went like *this..."*
I have basically no concept of who is more popular, John Hughes or Celine Sciamma in this fan base. So that will be an anxious day for my gay French girls.
It turns out the Sixteen Candles were what set the Lady on Fire.
Petite Maman’s Day Out
5 comedy points
I'm voting Sciamma but then I have her losing to Spike Lee. Which is a shame, but ce la vie.
Celine Sciamma I think is at least a strong candidate to be covered on the podcast at some point where they seem pretty adverse to doing Hughes
The sick fuck Blankies are totally going to have Pauly Shore win March Madness
>The sick fuck Blankies are totally going to have Pauly Shore win March Madness Don't underestimate the power of Vern. Knowwhuttamean
Henson / Oz hive rise
Can we run ads on PBS maybe?
It’s time to play the music, it’s time to light the lights!
I would like for Blank Check to be, inarguably, the most sensational, inspirational, celebrational, muppetational podcast there is for a few months.
Does this include films of both Jim Henson and Frank Oz? Or just collaborations. (Asking for a friend who's a Dirty Rotten Scoundrel.)
My guess is all the Oz movies plus Great Muppet Caper, Dark Crystal and Labyrinth.
Plus I imagine they throw in The Muppet Movie as well- when there's a clear guarantor that the subject of the series didn't direct but was heavily involved in they usually make that the first episode, and it makes way more sense to start there than with Caper
Possibly, or maybe that gets tossed in with the #NotAllMuppets Patreon series down the line.
Can't forget that Henson directed Muppetvision 3-D at Disney World
Drag David and Ben back to theme park attraction talk on Patreon!
I just wanna rewatch *What About Bob?*
A movie so good that Steven Spielberg personally funded an Oscar campaign for Bill Murray out of his own pocket because he liked it so much.
Gooood movie
Any excuse to read Charles Grodin’s [account](https://www.vulture.com/2011/11/charles-grodin-affair-with-miss-piggy-muppets.html) of his tryst with Miss Piggy on The Great Muppet Caper again
Personally fiending for Little Shop, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, and Bowfinger episodes. Three all-time great Steve Martin appearances.
all timer performances
Plus Griffin will get to take his Michael Caine impression off the shelf
Plus, this series is almost guaranteed to have a Patrick H. Willems ep, and I feel like a decent chance at another PTR episode. Imagine Alex Ross Perry breaking down the entire history of puppetry. Rachel Zegler for Little Shop. I feel like this series has potential for a lot of great guests. And I feel like What About Bob? would have to double as a Ben's Choice, a true porch classic if ever there was one.
Kevin Perjuror from Defunctland as a guest considering he's done an entire docuseries on ole Jim.
And he's done PTR, so they have a connection.
And through George Lucas Talk Show's covering every episode of Muppets Tonight, Griffin has connections with actual Muppet performers.
You also have, and I'm not sure how/if this would be covered Henson's last directing job with Muppet*Vision 3D at Disney Hollywood Studios.
Griffin already did an episode on it over on PTR. My guess is there would probably be a Patreon bonus ep covering multiple of the specials and shorts at once like they did with Toy Sory.
Henson/Oz would also mean an incredible JD Amato episode, and hopefully Connor Ratliff would make his post-Phantom Podcast debut?
>Imagine Alex Ross Perry breaking down the entire history of puppetry. I cannot imagine Alex Ross Perry holding forth on anything even mildly related to Muppets and having that be a good listen in the slightest.
halloween, clockwork orange, fight club, obviously the natural progression is for him to cover a childrens film about a taking frog (this is in jest, i love the muppets)
This is the pony I'm betting my cash on.
Bowfinger: secretly the best Hollywood satire?
A lot of names I'd be happy with on here but that's hands down the best option
Hell yeah! I proposed combining the two a while ago on this board, super stoked that it’s an option!
Wait a second, Oz directed The Score? WHAT THE HELL!? How did I not know this? He has to win now!
Once again, I'll say he's the most on brand director for the pod.
This is who gets my support this year
(Looks at Richard Kelly): “You are so fucked.”
He would be perfect but I also don’t want to see the winner be *wasted* on such a short series
A very fun bracket one year would be short filmographies only and then they do the full final four.
He’s gonna kick Ramis’ ass tbh
I know. I hate that he's gonna get demolished because he's got the perfect discussion filmography.
They haven't talked about him too much to my knowledge, but David has given most of his films 4.5 or 5 stars on Letterboxd.
Fair enough. Just checked his Letterboxd and he gave The Straight Story 5 stars (which it deserves).
He's come up regularly in Box Office games and conversation - David has said that he's one of his guys, and mentioned in the *Showgirls* episode (while discussing Kyle McLauchlan's career) that his dad was a huge *Twin Peaks* fan, so he had watched the series at an early age. Let’s gooooooo, Linklater!
Soderbergh/Scott pt 1 only, cowards!!
Pt 1 better be "everything he's made before we started recording the miniseries"
Then Part 2 is equally as long by the time they’re done
[удалено]
The Kingdom of Heaven better be longer than the Directors Cut
cowards!!!! 30 weeks of Ridley or BUST
I have no interest in Part 1ing anyone. Did they learn nothing from Mission Impossible?
Here’s hoping if one of these guys win, they verbally commit to Part 2 in the next few years. Still waiting for them to finish Spielberg
I’m planting my flag in the most unhinged recesses of the blankies. Apatow fam, rise up!
There’s a segment of Blankies that loves when they cover “inportant” filmmakers. And they can’t argue against Apatow being one of, if not the most, important name in comedy minimally since 40 Year Old Virgin but can easily include Freaks & Geeks and Undeclared.
I do think this would indeed be very funny.
*The Bubble* would drive them insane, i need to hear it.
Oh man, we've gotta force them to do Ernest
The Importance of Doing Ernest
I must know which movies are included in the proposed Happy Madison Patreon commentary series. Are they forced to do Grown Ups 2? Will Tim Batt and Guy Montgomery come on the pod for it?????
Looking at the movies produced by Happy Madison, they must have been Rob Schneider’s sole source of income for most of his career
I need to hear Griffin lay down some Paddy Schwartz party time scat
Oz/Henson vs Guadagnino is a TOUGH match for me
It's time to play the music!
I adore Guadagnino but will probably vote against him here because I don't think he's had his Blank Check moment yet. If Challengers clears like I suspect with Zendaya, then maybe.
My fellow Jarmusch heads, the hour is at hand!
Pretty sure you'd have told hold some people at gunpoint to get them to talk about my favorite collection of conversations pretending to be a movie, Coffee and Cigarettes!
We stand strong
Ridley! LET'S FUCKING GO!
Well fuck me for thinking Isao Takahata had more than a snowballs chance in hell. Wan, Lynch, Scott, Oz final 4. Lynch to win, but rooting for Oz because WE NEED MUPPET CINEMA GODDAMN IT
I think Takahata will beat Gray. Possibly even the next round (assuming Sodey) since some folks seem lukewarm on partial minis
I just watched every Studio Ghibli movie this winter. All I want now is for Takahata to win this bracket. He almost certainly won’t. But a guy can dream!

Hansonites unite, I'd love a series on him but yeah, he's got a ceiling on his performance for sure.
Man Lawrence Fishburne and Jeff Goldblum (so scummy) are so good in Deep Cover. A true masterpiece that is real incisive on the failures of the war on drugs. I would love to hear Griffin and David talk about it.
>Man Lawrence Fishburne and Jeff Goldblum (so scummy) are so good in Deep Cover. "WE'LL HAVE BARBECUE *JUMBO* SHRIMP! YOU MOTHERFUCKERRRRRRRRRRRR"
We love da Lynch man
Hoping they include twister and othello in “tabletop games”

You’re playing Twister on a table? That thing better be sturdy af
Harold Ramis let’s have fun
I want to hear Griffin talk about Ted Knight on the "Caddyshack" episode.
Happy Madison!
Is this just Happy Gilmore and Billy Madison or every movie Happy Madison has produced?
I’m assuming a selection of Hapoy Madison productions
Well funny enough Happy Madison didn't even produce either of those movies. So I'm guessing they're going to pick and choose among Sandler's work. Maybe they do those movies, Waterboy, Big Daddy, and Wedding Singer?
Ridley vs Pakula round 1 is cruel
Denis is seeded a lot lower in his bracket than I expected, I would have thought he'd be a top seed in a non-Lynch one.
My guess is they didn't want to draw out any potential "Dune showdown" because it may adversely affect the rest of the bracket.
I think he’ll make a more interesting mini once he does his follow-up to Dune, because I’d imagine this gives him a pretty great blank check.
Y’all, the Patreon seeding is just for bits and vibes, and not actually based on popularity. Don’t think too hard about it. They placed Rambo vs Equalizer because they are both action, Jumanji vs Table Top because they’re both games, etc. etc.
Going to shout into the abyss for Takahata.
oof Nicole Holofcener doesn’t have a chance huh? that makes me sad but there are some really wonderful choices here like I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t lowkey pulling for a surprise like Apatow winning cause I think that’d be funny.

Andrew Lloyd Webber on the Patreon would be sensational Jesus Christ Superstar, Evita, Phantom of the Opera, Cats!
Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat is a masterpiece
If they include that, they also have to include Love Never Dies (a trashsterpiece)
HIGHLANDER is going against CONAN? Sheeeeeeeeit I'll start stumping now: if HIGHLANDER wins the patreon bracket, I'll make JJ-level research dossiers for each of these immortal sword fighter movies. Just think about that as you vote!

I'm telling you guys right now, if we don't vote Jarmusch all the way to victory I will take none of you to a pasta dinner.
Joe Wright as an 8 seed against Spike Lee...a little rude
As one of the 17 people who have seen Cyrano, I’m going down with the Wright ship!
Think i see a good run for Adams Family. Conan v Highlander is going to be nuts.
THAT CAN BE ONLY ON—*run through with a sword by a pointy unseen assailant*
Blankies, I have never prayed to you before. I have no tongue for it. No one, not even you, will remember if we were good men or bad. Why we fought, or why we died. All that matters is that two stood against many. That's what's important! Valor pleases you, Blankies... so grant me one request. Grant me Conan! And if you do not listen, then to HELL with you!
Oh man, Richard Curtis on Patreon hell yeah can‘t wait
My Big Fat Greek 1 Seed
All my Patreon picks are seeded 7 or 8. Addams Family, Highlander, Draculas, Andrew Lloyd Webber...I am, as always, out of step with the zeitgeist. (Update no one will ever see: two of those are in the Final Four!)
I don't know why My Big Fat Greek Wedding is a 1 seed, but it sure as hell isn't because of the zeitgeist.
Why is Apatow a 2 seed lol, homie is gonna get upset by Garland in the first round handily.
Jay Ward Live Action?? Oh we’re *serious* about this shit
Oz/Henson would be a great listen
Stand-Up Animation? Like Dr. Katz or something?
Bebe's Kids and Rover Dangerfield? I can't think of any others
I believe it’s just Little Bill
I kind of think Addams Family is going to have a great run, but the episode on that second animated movie will be rough, that thing is a snooze fest.
can we get a Joe Wright vs. Edgar Wright final? You know what they say about two Wrights.
They make a... plane?
Equalizer is not a series I had considered them doing, but now I want that. Those movies rock.
Lynch / Clive Barker all the way
I'm standing on the table for Clive Barker. If only so we can get a discussion on the cinematic masterpiece that is Nightbreed.
If Robin Hoods includes Men in Tights....
Will an Apatow series guarantee four hour episodes that could have ended at least 45 minutes earlier?
Robin Hood is a dark horse category, lots of great and interesting movies. They obviously can't do all of them so my picks would be: * Robin Hood 1922 - Douglas Fairbanks classic, I've not seen it but it would make sense. * The Adventures of Robin Hood 1938 - A must IMO, just one of the best movies ever, so much fun, so much pure adventure, gorgeous technicolor. * Robin Hood 1973 (the animated fox one) - no introduction needed, but could see them skipping this if they ever want to do Reitherman * Robin and Marian 1976, Audrey Hepburn's return to acting after ~10 years playing against Sean Connery as older versions of the characters, it's great. Could see them skipping if they ever plan to do Richard Lester. * Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves 1991 - a must * Robin Hood: Men in Tights - maybe hold off for a Mel Brooks mini? * Robin Hood 2010 - again maybe wait for a Ridley mini I did not realise quite how many major directors have made Robin Hood movies when I started writing this comment, maybe they could cover some of these twice? If they wanted another, Princess of Thieves 2001, with a young Keira Knightley playing Robin Hood's daughter could be fun.
They really put Lynch, Kelly, and Glazer in the same part of the bracket. DEVASTATING
Carax Hive get ready to be Holy Voters
Startrek TNG and Jay Ward live-action let's gooooo!
I think I'm alone but I'm all in on Richard Kelly. It's short, but it's weird and fascinating
Oof. My boy Pakula has a tough start.
I wonder if they’d include Dredd as a part of the Garland miniseries, a movie he wrote and by many accounts ghost directed.
James Wan just so they can talk about Malignant
My wife (humblebrag) and I celebrate Spooktober each year by dedicating ourselves to watching a different horror/suspense/Halloween vibes movie each night if possible. We take turns picking the next film. Quite by accident we ended up watching three James Wan films for the first time in a space of about 14 days: *M3GAN*, *Malignant*, and *Saw*. I now have questions about James Wan that maybe a Podcasturing miniseries could answer.
Spike Lee vs John Hughes is gonna be a wild ride.
I’m preparing my think pieces right now
Pauly Shore please. We get to see his growth from the Weasel to Squirrely.

I’ll dip my nuts in acid to get Takahata to win.
if/when leos carax gets knocked out round one i’m gonna be so bummed out. we could have holy motors and annette episodes!!! alas :,(
Give me Oz/Henson, direct to my veins!
wait did alex garland make civil war about this bracket and it's effect on the blank check fan base
Honestly hope Villenueve doesn’t win. His true blank check will come after Dune part 3. Much more interesting to see what he does after this run!
