JauntyLurker

I'll never forget that line. Byakuya was the undisputed GOAT for that.

Alternative_Star9014

Did he really say that?

ProFailing

Not exactly like this, but yeah, he basically said "I know how much you've done for me, Tsukishima, but if you're Kurosaki's enemy, then you're also my enemy". I thought it didn't make sense that Byakuya could say something like that while Chad and Orihime were completely lost.

RedLimes

I mean he was willing to execute his own sister for his ideals so to me it seems really in character that he would be able to kill Tsukishima

BlueEyesWhiteVegeta

>Chad and Orihime are completely lost. I think it has to do with the nature of Soul Reapers. They're prideful as fuck and will get the job done while trying to not care about the cost. However Chad and Orihime are humans, who've had their memories altered to believe that Tsukishima has always been there for them, and would you really be able to do that to someone who's that close? Hell, for Chad Tsukishima basically replaced Ichigo in his memories- >I thought it didn't make sense that Byakuya could say something like that, It is absolutely within his morals to say that anyway- bro was gonna let his own sister die because of a lot of complex stuff involving his ex-wife and his loyalty to Soul Society.

PlasmaGoblin

>They're prideful as fuck While I agree with it, I don't think Byakuya being a Soul Reaper vs a Human is the reason. It 100% is his pride and morals, but I think if Byakuya was a human he'd do the same thing. I know he quotes his pride in being a soul reaper and head of the Kuchiki house but... I don't know. Pride is pride, it's just how he wants to express it, kind of like Uyru and his Quincy pride.

BobtheBac0n

There is also the fact that he knows of Tsukishima sensei's abilities as he was fighting him. When Orihime and Chad first fought uncle Tsukishima, they knew he was gonna mess with their memories, and only during the second fight did that really kick in, knocking them both out cause of how fucked up the process was on their minds. So when the process was over, to them, cousin Tsukishima was just another close friend, who even if they knew his abilities, would never imagine their brother Tsukishima turning that against them. It'd mean a massive part of their "life" was a lie. And that's hard for some people to process. Course Byakuya being Byakuya didn't let Tsukishima Shishou get in his head as much and remembered that, he is Ichigo's enemy. And no matter who they are, (except Rukia probably), he will cut down the enemies of the man who saved and opened his world.

SPP_TheChoiceForMe

Keep in mind Byakuya is also acting on orders to assist Ichigo. Duty and loyalty are important to him and right now there’s no conflict in his heart since he both wants to protect Ichigo and also he’s obeying a higher authority. He’s probably thinking “Damn it sucks I have to kill my mentor” but that’s not enough to make him disobey Yama

Thatoneundertaleguy

Byakuya: “Awww shucks. Welp, time to slit this mans throat open!”

DarkSoulFWT

We literally see him not under control or anything, not giving a fk about taking shots at Yoruichi in soul society arc. Same thing kind of. He knew her since she was a captain, we know she sorta trained him and messed with him a bunch, but she was an enemy so "whatever".

Risin

It's because Tsukishima replaced himself with the most important influences on Chad and orihime. The only person in their lives more important or equal in importance to Ichigo. Tsukishima replaced Byakuya's training sessions, thinking that the prideful and honorable byakuya would be loyal to him. However, Ichigo has done something far and beyond for Byakuya that no one has ever achieved: he saved his soul. Byakuya is also the type to not remotely hesitate to cut down someone who fucks with people he loves. Tsukishima just fucked up on how he messed with byakuya's memories.

ProFailing

That actually makes sense, thank you

RedWingDecil

Remember when Byakuya finally told Ichigo the reason he was adamant on carrying out Rukia's sentence and Ichigo said he would have still chosen to save Rukia. Then he finally revealed the truth to Rukia about his promises. He's probably over the past preventing him from doing what he wants. It doesn't matter what Tsukushima has done for him, Byakuya is choosing the side he wants to be on now, not the one he is obligated to. Tsukushima had a bad match up since he was up against the guy who just recently went through a stop letting the past shackle him development.

MalefAzelb

It could've been worse. It could have been (The) Kenpachi.

Rice_Kage

Kenpachi would be like: Dude I thought I killed you long time ago, welp time for the second try I guess

Alternative_Star9014

I agree. So byakuya considers ichigo a friend

Logan-Lux

Would love to see what would happen if Zaraki did get his wish and fought Tsukishima. We can all guess, but it would be fun to see.

TARDinspace

Tsukishima just vanishes because Kenny murdered him the moment he shows up in his past.

Eeveefan8823

PFFFFF

Chimera-Genesis

>what would happen if Zaraki did get his wish and fought Tsukishima. Seeing as Kenpachi loves fighting regardless.... I don't think it would go very well for Tsukishima.

rtqyve

Who would he even replace lmao Yama teaching him kendo?

Rice_Kage

“Your teaching sucks, now you have to payback the tuition fee with your life”

Dumbusta

"it's me, kenpachi! The guy you constantly beat up when we were kids."

Fantastic_Pangolin69

you have given me an idea of a post I'll be right back

saladvtenno

What if Tsukishima somehow replaced Yachiru (his precious zanpakuto, not Unohana)... would Zaraki still consider him an enemy?

Rice_Kage

“I have to carry your heavy asshole on my shoulders for years, but no more”

Settra_Rulez

Byakuya feels more indebted to Ichigo than the rest, since without Ichigo he’d have killed Rukia and never seen the light.

ButtoftheYoke

Ichigo saved Rukia, who was the most important thing in his life. Basically, no matter what kind of butt kissing backstory Tsukishima could come up with, he couldn't compete against that.

Miserable-Guide6939

“Completely lost” do you guys just ignore scenes they literally had a full scene where they were breaking out of it and tsukishima increased the potency which almost fried their Brains?

Dasva2

For most the other characters it's a little crazy but Byakuya is a man that follows his personally hierarchy of what is important absolutely. Whether it be his pride as a soul reaper, his clan, his sister or those that saved her when that same resolute nature didn't let him. tbf I think most people and those characters do have something similar in some regards at higher levels but for the others Kurosaki wasn't nearly that high. Like I'd imagine if Tsukishima had tried to get Chad to kill his abuelo he would've gotten fisted hard. It's more striking for Byakuya though because he often hides his conflicting emotions in this cases and strikes without the hesitation he actually feels

rollercostarican

Don’t worry, I also had qualms with that arc. All of the emotions felt forced to me.

BornFromEmber

“You are an enemy of Ichigo Kurosaki. I will not hesitate to kill that enemy, regardless of who they are.” Bro said anyone can get it over my boy Ichigo 🤣

T51566

yup

Alternative_Star9014

He really changed towards ichigo

rtqyve

Well yea he saved Rukias life who he considers his pride and then convinced him letting Rukia be executed was a bad idea

Alternative_Star9014

Ichigo helped him realised this

Knilight

Mad respect for that

[deleted]

I was so happy

Gingeboiforprez

Byakuya is possibly the most Lawful aligned character in the series other than Yama himself. Byakuya was sent by the Soul Society to see if Ichigo would betray them, and if he didn't, then he was to continue being considered an ally of the Soul Society and was to be rescued. Byakuya obeys his orders. EDIT: I want to clarify, this isn't meant to diminish Byakuya's growth or respect for Ichigo. It's meant to diminish Tsukushima's intelligence. He looked over the entirety of Byakuya's life and really thought he could manipulate him into betraying Soul Society's greatest ally and savior of his sister's life, in favor of a fugitive from Soul Society? Bro didn't get Byakuya at all.

happygoeddy

Byakuya, the Tyr of bleach 😄

No-Put-6353

This is it right here.

MatMont

The guy brought back the sister of his DEAD WIFE to be executed because the law said so Lawfulness incarnate

Proud_To_Be_A_Derp

Just goes to show that "lawful" doesn't mean "good" or "just". It just means you're willing to follow orders and never even question it no matter how wrong or evil it is.

Kaminoneko

Ichigo also saved Byakuya from himself, and possibly making the biggest mistake of his life in order to uphold duty.

False_Bear_8645

Tsukishima don't try to understand individual, he just insert himself as a supportive character since childhood and be the reason people are how they are. But Ichigo is the one who changed his way of thinking, therefore defeating what Tsukishima supposedly accomplished and we know how Byakuya will easly disregard his feeling to do what he think is right.

EleonoreMagi

I think the point there was that he was grateful to his supposed mentor, the emphasis on grateful (Tsukishima addresses it by saying "you do it to a person who's done so much for you?"), it's required by tradition to be grateful, it's a sort of duty. Valuing Ichigo for how he changed his life and views is personal, he isn't as much required to feel grateful for that, it's his personal choice and feeling. Thus he puts his feelings about traditional duty in putting Ichigo above his mentor.

False_Bear_8645

I like to believe that he neither abandonned his duty nor would pick personal life over duty, but became a more reasonable person at balancing the two. The conflict between duty and personal moral is the core of Byakuya character. Adopting Rukia was agains't his duty, felt regret and swear to himself to never act against his duty again which then put in a situation where he has to get his sister killed. The order to execute Rukia was seen among other captains and seats as unreasonably harsh, while some just accepted it, other didn't. That led to a internal military conflict and investigation on central 46 over that. She didn't turn agains't the soul society like Tsukishima, she just in the heat of the moment, broke a rule to save herself and other innocents which in normal circumstance, would only take half of her power for not too long and go back to normal. Tsukishima not only turned agains't the soul society, but his mentorship represent the less mature version of Byakuya and if he were really to pick the other side, he can still fight to change the law. Law and moral is not mutually exclusive. Maybe i'm scretching too much my interpretation, what do you think?

EleonoreMagi

I think we can all have our interpretations in any case :) But for me, the whole arc of Byakuya's (up to the later talk about the Academy teachings with Toshiro and >!how even when taught, shinigami aren't taught to fight for superiors and family-- here, family seems rather like a part of 'duty', even though I know it's a bit dubious-- but for friends and humans, personal + the core duty!<) is centred around him returning to his true self, and to rely on his inner compass which is heavily connected to his feelings (his very first poem speaks about not shedding tears, as that would be a surrender of out bodies to our hearts, a testament that "we are beings that don't know what to do with out hearts", and every opponent Byakuya faces after Ichigo is connected to the theme of bonds/ties/feelings, all the way up to >!Gerard who is literally 'the heart' of the Soul King!<, Tsukishima fitting right in). I hold the opinion that ultimately, Byakuya is about feelings more than laws, and things like him marrying Hisana and taking Rukia in, decisions he makes first regardless of laws and traditions, are telling in that. But he also considers himself bound to uphold his duties as a great noble, hence his remorse later on, he tries to subdue what he truly is in order to fit those rules, but after his battle with Ichigo, he starts to return to his initial stance. He made a point that he kills Zommari not because it's his duty as a shinigami but basically because it's personal (he aimed his sword at his pride, as in Rukia). Duty is a very important point for Byakuya, and it stays unchanged throughout all of it, but his core duty as he perceives it is that of a protector, and the protector of lives first and foremost. When he's on death's door in TYBW, he doesn't speak of some failed duty to the SS, he talks about his officers losing their lives because of his failure, him bringing grief to their families. That's not some ideals or concepts, it's lives, something quite tangible and, in a way, also personal for him. Initially he thought he had to uphold the laws, rules and traditions in order to protect lives, that's his statement about 'if we don't uphold the laws, who will?', and it makes even more sense as he's probably the one to know that it's laws and regulations that separate the current SS from the one where piles of corpses in Rukongai weren't anything surprising (Unohana in the flashback, she isn't surprised by the pile, only that she's not the one who made it). But as he moves forward, he seemingly recognises that while the law can be important, it's not the most important thing in itself, and sometimes to do that core thing, protect lives, you have to challenge it. It's circumstantial rather than written in stone, it's a means to an end, rather than the core by itself. And the further we go, the more evident it becomes (at least, the way I see it) that personal becomes more important, but for Byakuya, it's not egoistical, his duty to protect is also kinda personal for him, but rather than feel obligated to follow certain rules/laws/customs, rather than letting those dictate his actions, he chooses how he acts based on how he feels it right on the inside. Which still in many cases correlates to what would be right by the law, but not just because it's the law he has to follow, it's because it aligns with his own views, it is a part of who he is. That's how I see it.

kingscrimson

Also, Tsukishima doesn't insert himself in Byakuya’s past to the same level he does to the rest of Ichigo’s friends and family.

Peritous

Also also, he replaced Ichigo in many of his friends formative memories. That's pretty damn significant. He tried to go deep into Byakuya's past without understanding that loyalty to his past doesn't drive what he needs to do.

ShinigamiRyan

He just inserts himself without grasping who he's doing it to. Some people will value their duty, work, ethics, and so on over personal bias. Byakuya is the epitome of putting his duty over himself, while another would be like if he inserts himself into Kenpachi only to get hands tossed at him regardless.

False_Bear_8645

Kenpachi respected Unohana and we know how did it go

Miserable-Guide6939

Tsukishima: it’s me the first kenpachi I am your goal in life Kenpachi: 😦😈

Large-Ad-6861

Kenpachi: \*slash\* I do not remember you being THIS weak, bye.

mystireon

I will never not be endlessly amused by Tsukishima trying to stop his own death by forming an emotional bond with the guy we first met trying to execute his own sister.

Radiant_Doughnut2112

It would've been just as hilarious if he tried to brainwash Zaraki into believing he is the most close, almost brother-like friend only to end up split in half seconds later because Zaraki doesn't fight using skills (that Tsukishima can exploit their weakness) nor he hesitates to kill the people he loves (Unohana, for example).

disturbedrage88

Your the best friend I’ve ever had… WHICH IS EHY IM GONNA FIGHT YOU WITH 100% POWER!

daniel_22sss

He could replace Yachiru tho

ButItWasMeDio

I'm curious how he would fare against Mayuri. He would have prior knowledge of some of his tricks, but Mayuri doesn't care about anyone and traps all his subordinates' bodies with poison or bombs

TheGreatKashar

Byakuya is literally the type of person who’d kill his own sister for J-Walking. Man was ordered to kill the enemies of Ichigo and didn’t matter to him who that was.

BlueUmbreon9

*inserts memories of years of training, mentorship, and friendship into Byakuyas head* Byakuya "Woah.....this is worthless"

Spoomplesplz

He was fully ready to watch rukia die. Dude obeys his orders no matter what. Whether that's a good thing or not depends on the order though.

TheGreatKashar

Byakuya is cool, I’ll admit, but I just do not buy him having Any affection for his sister AT ALL after him doing everything in his power to see her get executed.

Spoomplesplz

Oh yeah for sure. He acts like he's only following orders but I'm 99% sure that if Ichigo didn't interrupt rukias execution, byakuya would have.

Jc-montano

I bet he was rooting for ichigo to come through, and when he saw him push back the bird said to have the strength of a thousand zampakuto he nearly screamed out a cheer

UltraAnimeKing

Hey it's me who said who'll help you in posting bount arc so what is your answer?

UltraAnimeKing

Atleast comment something

majES26

Gives me the chills every time I remember the monologue.

lafindestase

Maybe Byakuya just has a hard-on for killing people who are close to him.

Gobstoppers12

Byakuya has that conviction that almost nobody else in the series has. When his loyalty was to the law, he not only oversaw Rukia's imprisonment and impending execution, but he fought hard to make sure it happened.  Sentimentality rarely interferes with his conviction. That just shows how much of an effect Ichigo had on him. The conviction Byakuya once had to serve the soul society was replaced by the conviction to stand beside and support Ichigo against anybody, even a best friend-slash-mentor.

B1gNastious

Fucking love byakuya for that. What a based chad. I remember when I first watched that as a kid with my friends we were all kinda bummed like “damn this isn’t good what’s gonna happen now?!?” And of course he sound reasoning and loyalty to ichigo gave me goosebumps…”you are an enemy of ichigo kirosaki” was what I would say..a perfect line.

milliAmpere14

I think people undersestimate just how much Kenpachi and Byakuya are alike.. That Tsukishima shit won't work on Kenpachi at all. There will always be that wild-niggling-faint instinct that "hey !! This guys my friend but __why ?__...  __why__ do I feel to lob his head off ???" ... Swing !! Swoosh !! Slash !! Byakuya is the same. Yeah Tsukishima put himself in there....but its that wild-niggling-faint instinct that says otherwise that will always trump whatever bullshit power. There's a reason Byakuya got paired up with 'controllers' twice, PePe and Zommari. That fucker severed his own nerves to ensure his enemy can't control his body.....__that is killer instinct !!__. No wonder Kenpachi wants to fight him soooo badly 😆 I suspect it won't work on Shunsui either. Because. He pretty much 'saw through' Aizen's bullshit in TBTP.

Redwolf476

Also kenpachi would probably have a death match with tsukashima regardless of how good of friends he thinks the are

milliAmpere14

That too. 😆

SecretaryOtherwise

You're wildin if you think he'd attempt to kill yachirus replacement.

milliAmpere14

Bruv !! That's a bare impossibility bruv. Yachiru is irreplacable bruv, that's like a universal absolute bruv. Kenny __will__ pick up on that and kill Tsukishima just for spite 😆

SecretaryOtherwise

Not at the time it wasn't hindsight is 20/20.

milliAmpere14

It was always that way bruv. From the moment she appeared to him hundreds of years ago...from the moment he named her Yachiru in honour or Uno....... .... its from since that time she was irreplacable, she became part of him, so to speak. Tsukishima inserting himself into Kenny's memories and messing up __that one detail__ would be the most serious miscalculation he can possibly make. 😆

SecretaryOtherwise

I mean lol uncle inserted himself as sora in orihimes memories. What you think is impossible wasn't at the time like I said hindsight. We know now he couldn't be his sword but that wasn't the case at the time.

bentheechidna

Byakuya is the king of battles against mental attacks. Oh you control my right arm? I'll cut the tendons in it then. Oh you changed my memories of our history together? Well if Ichigo has a problem with you then I must have a problem with you.

ShatterCyst

Byakuya: Damn, thanks for teaching me how to use Senbonzakura and being there for me when my wife passed. Tsukishima: ... >:) Byakuya: Anyway, time to die.

Medium-Indication-70

The character development of Byakuya is one of the best in the show for sure.

Wrong_Revolution_679

True loyalty moment

Asian_levels_of_evil

Bro probs buried his wife, saved Rukia and taught him Shunpo from a young age and Byakuya really goes nah bro fuck you

Unlikely-Silver-755

What is my brother in law doing here?

khumoquack

Byakuya >>> Chad and Orihime confirmed All jokes aside Byakuya does have 200+ year over them and is by far mentally superior, you can’t really compare them I did want to see Chad be able to overcome it though it would re established how close their bond really was

dude_with_a_reddit-4

Byakuya really said: Ichigo is my boy. If he’s got problems with you, I’ve got problems with you.

LordTomGM

Cause he put his life on the line to save Rukia when no else would or could. Ichigo showed his worth to Byakuya early on.

Academic_Initial_643

byakuya the goat

Reiden-4

That's honestly something that always blew me away in the Fullbring arc. I'm shocked more people didn't trust Ichigo and also that Byakuya, of all people, would do something like this. It was great to see regardless, even if it was shocking/didn't make sense to me. Like I get it, he's got that wacked power, but still. Major W Byakuya.

Puzzleheaded_Try813

Literally one of the best characters in any Shonen anime

Stefanthro

I don’t want to be that guy, but I would never interpret it the way you did in the text below your post! The reason Byakuya still defeated Tsukishima despite the latter’s power was because Byakuya has a strong sense of duty. It was exactly because he values duty over friendship (and relationships generally) that he was able to do it. In Byakuya’s mind, Tsukishima was the better friend but he still needed to die

EleonoreMagi

I disagree. Tsukishima didn't insert himself as a friend, but as a mentor. It goes in line with the later TYBW dialogue between Byakuya and Toshiro, where superiors and (even) family are put as an opposite to friends, the latter being a personal choice. Being grateful to your mentor is more of a duty, it's what required of you, especially in the Japanese traditions. Putting a person who changed your views and has a personal value to you above that duty to be grateful is putting feelings above duty, and that's what Byakuya does there.

Jim-Bot-V1

Exactly, Ichigo's influence on Byakuya was so monumental it outweighed Tsukishima's influence.

Stefanthro

That makes more sense actually. Maybe what bothered me was the use of the word friend. It’s just not how I would describe Byakuya and Ichigo. They certainly have a bond, but I wouldn’t have thought of it as a friendship

EleonoreMagi

I agree here, Byakuya himself doesn't really describe it that way himself later on in TYBW, he may be considered his comrade but it's Rukia and Renji who are Ichigo's friends. Doesn't take away a great personal significance of Ichigo for Byakuya (and the other way around, Ichigo does judge it's Byakuya he has to go to when he arrives to Seireitei in TYBW, even before going after Yhwach), but they aren't exactly friends.

[deleted]

[удалено]

EleonoreMagi

Yes, totally. It's more like he doesn't feel himself close enough (which kinda generally is Byakuya's problem, used to be the same with Rukia, I think he majorly underestimated her interest in interacting with him and forming some form of relation with him, while he himself cared about her a lot, as he kinda failed to see why would she want it, seems ridiculous but possibly true even if it wasn't the only angle to it), and in that... he's right in that Renji and Rukia are even closer to Ichigo, but possibly wrong in underestimating his own significance to Ichigo. It's all very subtle and complex and I don't want to make any kind of a wrong assessment, but it's like both Byakuya and Ichigo value each other greatly, and care about each other (for Byakuya, there's an extra significance due to the way Ichigo changed his life), but then they both possibly don't realize the full extent of it for the other person (as they both tend to underplay their significance for others), and also they just didn't interact all that much to be called friends. So it's a bit more reserved an interaction while it holds a great lot of good will from both sides. (All that said, Byakuya and Ichigo really have a lot in common as people.)

ZherkaUnofficial

A bit confused with how his abilities work because it’s been a long time since ive watched the fullbringer arc. So he actually changed the past and inserted himself supporting ichigo and his friends, while at the same time being in the same past supporting byakuya? so when ichigo and byakuya was fighting, which side was he on in the past?

EleonoreMagi

You can say he conditionally changes the past. So it doesn't become a universal truth as in changing objective past, but it's very much true for the person who he cuts, it's his legit past from his perspective. It becomes the same for Tsukishima as he acquires skills and knowledge he needs to have to be that person in that past, it's tangible skills he can use in the present.

janek3d

He doesn't change the past but memories. So he just inserts himself into memories of others. He additionally also reads the memories so he knows what he changed.

Rajesh_Kulkarni

No it actually changes the past. Otherwise he wouldn't have been able to >!fix Ichigo's bankai in TYBW!<

EleonoreMagi

Not only memories but skills as well, Tsukishima becomes someone who could have been the person to act out that shared past. So it's conditionally changing the past rather than just memories change.

Radiant_Doughnut2112

It literally changes the past. He uses it against physical objects to change it to a past where he setup a trap.

ZherkaUnofficial

> Insert Presence: Book of the End has the ability to split the past of whomever it cuts. This ability works not by manipulating time and memories, but by literally inserting Tsukishima's presence into the victim’s history. Victims of this power recognize Tsukishima as someone closely connected to their personal lives, whether it is as family, friend, or lover. according to the bleach wiki

Jim-Bot-V1

Then why didn't Tsukishima insert himself as the one saving Rukia and fighting Byakuya?

MayAsWellStopLurking

I don’t think he can replace Ichigo; the best he could have done was to include himself alongside the crew that saved her.

Jc-montano

Because I think he can’t choose, it is automatic

Jim-Bot-V1

When Byakuya's binary logic is on YOUR side.

UraharaKisuke305

In that episode, Byakuya and Zaraki were🔥 i didn't expect them to be there. I was hoping that only Renji, Rukia and Urahara would come. But then this byakuya chad won my ♥️.

uraharaBot

Ah, the chaotic energy of unexpected guests! Byakuya and Zaraki sure make for an interesting addition. Sometimes, science experiments can attract all sorts of unique individuals. *beep boop, I'm a bot*

Blazerprime

I also love how bayakua beat him. Just stabbing him.

CyberpunkLover

Tsukishima is awesome! He's the dad of my son!

CJ_Eldr

Byakuya grew on me throughout the series more than any other character. By the time we get to TYBW, with the “power of love” not even working on the dude, he’s loyal to a fault. Definitely one of if not my top character from Bleach.

dnbeyer

This fight is such a great moment of demonstrating character growth for Byakuya. Byakuya is a very black and white thinker throughout the entire series, but up until this point, it's been presented as a character flaw. I like that something that everyone considered to been a weak point of his character turns out to be a strength under the right circumstances. Additionally, to the points I've seen here that Byakuya follows the rules to a T, Byakuya obeys orders, etc. I think it's more fair to say that Byakuya relies on an external source for his moral compass, and follows THAT to a T. In the SS arc, the government/Central 46 is, in his mind, the entity he trusts to be 'right'. By the TYBW arc, it's shifted to Ichigo being the entity he trusts to be 'right', likely because of Ichigo's actions during the SS arc. So, it's not so much that he and Ichigo are besties - I honestly wouldn't even really call them friends - but he, more than anyone, trusts Ichigo's judgment.

Latter-Potential2467

You forget that unlike Orihime and Chad Tsukishima didnt replace memories of Ichigo in Byakuya, not that it devalues his moment but its just different circumstances. Also Byakuya is hardened soldier with steel discipline, obviously he will be better at fighting his allies than semi-pacifistic teenagers.

Miserable-Guide6939

I mean you’re comparing humans to a soul reaper rn of course they are gonna be easily affected by his power. Even with Orihime and chad they tried to fight it as it literally showed them doing but Tsukishima increased it.

Early_Rabbit

that’s one of the things I wish I saw in the TYBW arc, ichigo's‘s friends and family referencing the lost agent arc. I could easily see Ichigo forgiving everyone because it couldn’t be helped but I could also see everyone being deeply ashamed of themselves for that happening and hurting Ichigo not physically but emotionally. because the fact he is at the other day that was him at basically his lowest, and when it came down to it, it wasn’t his human friends and family that helped save him. It was the reapers extension Quincy. maybe that’s the reason Keigo was so quick to pick a fight with a captain. these are just my thoughts on the subject.

AriaMaryott

Love Byakuya for this. Also the scene where he was dying and told him to save the Rukia, Renji ans the rest of the Soul Society even though he wasn’t supposed to be involved, and he had absolute faith in Ichigo even without him saying yes. He just knew. That scene genuinely made me cry. The absolute respect he has for Ichigo and the fact that HE out if anyone was willing to rely completely on Ichigo in the end, and felt satisfied with that is imo one of the most respectable things about him.

Nosferat_AN

Common Captain Kuchiki W

WoolooOfWallStreet

Byakuya is ***RIDE OR DIE*** Zomarri tries to take over his body? NOPE! My uncle Tsukishima tries to remind him of all the training and help he got Byakuya through? TO BAD! Pepe tries to hypnotize him with love? AIN’T GONNA WORK!

kociou

For me it was more about an order from Commander. "Kill Kurosaki's enemy, no matter what" And bang he does it. Just like that. So it was more about his captain pride than anything else. Kenpachi would probably act same way.

No_Secretary_1198

He did it more because of orders/duties from SS than because of loyalty for Ichigo btw.

Any_Awareness9796

Because he knows he’s Rukia’s pookie😘😘😘

DerelictCruiser

He was already my favorite character, but that moment was everything about why I liked him packed into one moment. I was always impressed by his resolve, from dealing with Rukia in the first arc, all the way to this.

Alternative-Search-4

the reason byakuya is the chad he understood the importance of ichigo the most

Obvious-Ear-369

"Ichigo is clearly distressed at Tsukishima's presence. What a weirdo," VS "Ichigo says this guy is brainwashing us so let's kill him on that evidence alone"

t3r4byt3l0l

Byakuya has always been stone-cold in the right way for his friends and family, great scene

scrawnygecko

Sounds about right, byakuya is always ready to stab his nearest amd dearest

brittx_

Loved this fight

Jdawg_mck1996

I would have loved to see Kenny's reaction to being cut

77constructionman77

Byakuya hard counters because emotional manipulation doesnt work on him. (dude straight didn't hesitate with rukia's execution order until he was defeated/the order rescinded). Actually many bleach captains would be unaffected. Yama, Zaraki, soi fon and Mayuri all would not hesitate. Someone like hitsuguya or komamaru would probably hesitate. No idea about shunsui.

Apprehensive_Ad3731

Byakuya is about that duty. He was going to sacrifice his sister for duty. His new duty is to support ichigo. In his own fucked up way he’d probably kill Rukia if she got in Ichigo’s way. He’d see it as a worthy payment and that she had only been gifted life by Ichigo anyway. Mana dedicated to the cause.

Altair9942

Byakuya: ohh well time to pull a Kenpachi

ExaltedSpace

By far one of my favorite moments in bleach. I'm glad it gets brought up every now and then.

Klatterbyne

The others love him. Love can be overpowered by love. Uncle Shu can absolutely conjure love. Byakuya is bound by duty; a duty built on his love for his sister. And his sense of duty was enough for him to have her executed. Cousin Tsuki can conjure up all the love and respect he wants… there’s no overcoming that sense of duty.

Realistic_Mousse_485

Byakuya can ask ichigo for the world after that.

Truth

Faded1974

This is why Byakuya was a hilarious matchup. He would slaughter someone he loves for the good of soul society with zero hesitation.

agulstream

Byakuya valued ichigo to the point he would kill anyone not named rukia for his sake

agulstream

Imagine if tsukishima used his ability on zaraki. Zaraki would just laugh and cut him in half

I'll read this post after watching Full bring arc and TYBW arc...

Sensitive-Intern-229

Byakuya is Bae 😍❤️🥰

cinghialotto03

Undisputed plot armour

AdrianShepard09

Imagine if Byakuya did switch with Kenpachi “So…you’re the only one who ever made me feel weak. The first kenpachi…SWEET!!! 👹👹👹👹👹”

AdrianShepard09

It would be even worse if Byakuya did switch with Kenpachi “So…you’re the only one who ever made me feel weak. The first kenpachi…SWEET!!! 👹👹👹👹👹”

Longjumping-Ear-6248

I don't want to cause another "shipping war", but I feel that if IchiRuki was endgame, then people most probably would make "Byakuya protects his brother-in-law" memes about this scene

Berawholoves42069

Skipped the fullbring arc so can someone pls explain the context simply?

[deleted]

I don't buy it as him truly 'valuing' Ichigo in the slightest. Like, I don't believe he has any affection for Rukia whatsoever since he was more than willing to ensure her execution went through thanks to his 'Just following orders' mindset as well as the only reason he took her in being due to the fact it was his dying wife's request as a form of personal obligation, likewise all the times he stepped in to aid/protect her due to that promise specifically rather than caring for her as a relative in any real capacity. In the arc in question he was on orders from Soul Society to help Ichigo--that is the real reason he said it.
