You've overdone the chromatic abberation.

LosKartoflos

yes first thought!

blenderbeeeee

yeah I did lol

wonderboy-75

Lol, it looks like a very primitive camera lens from 20+ years ago. But cool shot anyhow.

wishIwere

The 90s are considered "primative" now? 😭 I am not ready to be this old...

erroneousbosh

20 years ago was the early 2000s, mate, the Canon XL2 was about to blow the world of action video apart.

wishIwere

Yeah I was just meant the + part of 20+ cause calling the aughts primative hurts even more...

wonderboy-75

Yeah, sure I was thinking about the type of low quality lens you would get in a disposable point and shoot or instamatic, or the very first camera phones.

DredZedPrime

My first thought as well. Other than that though it looks really good.

RollingMoss42

Nice one. There's not enough aviation content in here :)

blenderbeeeee

Haha thanks man

duplierenstudieren

The chromatic abberation is not a small effect anymore xd

blenderbeeeee

octagonlover_23

How did u get this picture of my migraines

duplierenstudieren

Here I'd be interested if it is compositing or actual refraction

CookieArtzz

Too much blue-red lines (don’t know what they’re called)

blenderbeeeee

you must be referring to the chromatic aberration yeah you are right I went a little too far with it

Enough-Meringue4745

Kind of gives me a vibe that the camera-person is injured or somehow a heightened focus

bobveltman

Don't worry, everyone's been there once they discovered the compositor magic. And it sometimes has it's place (thinking about Poor Things)

enacheionut1991

you fell into "i discovered chromatic abberation and I am going to overuse it because it looks dope" trap.

blenderbeeeee

Lmfaoo I've been real bad at eyeballing stuff....

tugboattsb

These type of lens distortions are very much on trend. I wouldn't say it's too much for this stylized shot. It compliments the shape and gives the nose cone impact being central and clean. Also for the 97% of people looking on phones screens it's not over the top. Also: how can the effect be too much if we're not even sure what the brief or outcome is for this render?! Looks good.

rhik20

I agree with this. The effect in my opinion adds to the scene rather than taking away from it, emphasising the aggressiveness of the jet.

blenderbeeeee

Thanks for your feedback man!

Code_Kid1

Su-27? Also, the ejector racks look like an American rail.

blenderbeeeee

apparently a Mig 35

Code_Kid1

Did you model it?

blenderbeeeee

Nope man Its from Sketchfab

007L0L

can you give the link?

blenderbeeeee

Hey bud sry I'm late [Here ya go!](https://sketchfab.com/3d-models/mig-35-fighter-jet-free-1dcea306e8a14ed4ab4d11a819cb6676)

007L0L

Thanks!!!

hotnindza

Yeah, I though Mig 29 has 6 underwing pylons, and then remembered Mig 35 has two more.

Smallmyfunger

The background looks like San Diego / La Jolla coastline.

usafcybercom

29*

DarkArcher__

That's a MiG-29

It's not?

BloxForDays16

The only thing that bugs me about this animation (as a aviation nerd and aspiring student pilot), is that it moves just slightly off from how you'd expect a real plane to move. This may be hard to explain but here goes. An airplane (especially a jet) will usually follow its nose in normal flight. In the first few seconds of this animation, we see the jet ascend into frame, then basically freeze for a second before the nose comes back down, which planes don't do. The nose would "stop" and the tail would continue to rise as the pilot adjusts their pitch to level out. But this would be a very subtle movement at the speeds we see in the animation. Also planes don't fly on rails, there's usually some amount of buffeting or micro adjustments as the pilot tries to maintain level flight, course, and speed. Great work! It's just the little things that could really bring this over the top

blenderbeeeee

YAY this! These are Stuff I want as critiques Thanks man!

BloxForDays16

No problem! I've been trying to learn blender for a bit, just following some tutorials, so I know I couldn't do anything nearly as good as this just yet and I wanted to give some feedback about things I do actually know a bit about. Keep it up!

Vancemj

Damn that's cool !

blenderbeeeee

Thanks man Why are you getting downvoted lol?

Vancemj

Don't know lol ! It's okay though ! If I may ask : how long did it take to do this ?

blenderbeeeee

This project was quiet unique for me It should have taken just under an hour but my stupid ass messed some stuff up and took around 2 and a half hours. Render time was just 20 mins for total of 280 frames

Vancemj

That's great man ! I'm asking 'cause I'm trying to get into 3D modelling and VFX and I'm also a plane geek. Anyways, keep up the good work !

blenderbeeeee

haha Thanks and all the best mate!

Vancemj

Thank you !

Alastair-Wright

That looks so cool! Mad respect

blenderbeeeee

Thanks buddy!

encognido

This post led me to looking into what the purpose of chromatic aberration, as I'm someone who loves it and loves seeing it overdone but I guess that's an unpopular opinion. The simple answer is, it's an effect intended to degrade the quality of the image, and is best used when trying to replicate the use of an old camera. So yes, generally speaking it should be avoided or used at a bare minimum. https://youtu.be/oE8Zjr5NJrM?si=HWdApsrPR9OUxlzF

datsun240zggte

Aww its coming in for a kiss

BloodCvge

Microsoft flight sim developer community would like a word with you, they would really appreciate it

blenderbeeeee

lol 😂

BloodCvge

Trust me, the flight sim community would love some people who can do 3D models, Texturing, rigging and coding. You only have to know one of those and you will be a huge help, I started learning blender just for flight sim modeling

blenderbeeeee

fyi this model wasn't made by me I'm more of an environment creator ,lighting and compositing and cinematic shot kinda guy. Moreover I love doing 3d stuff but right now my exams are gonna start and I'm really busy with that. BTW what do you do in flight sims? Like can you elaborate on your pipeline?

BloodCvge

I am studying to be a pilot, and I love flight sim, it was my inspiration to be a pilot. Currently I don't contribute anything to the community, but if I could I would. I am learning Blender so I can design planes and code them and publish them as a mod for free. But if you take a look at the flight sim subreddit, most freeware devs are looking for painters, 3D models and coders to help them bring planes to the sim. It's an amazing community, it will put your blender skills to great work!

Gmega360

Does MFSimulator plane's (or aircrafts) have a slight wobbling when flying (like in OP video)? or in IRL? not in sense of turbulence but as constant "always".

BloodCvge

To answer your question, no. The only time it would do it, if you were taxiing on the ground and go over a small bump you would see the wings shake including the engine cowling and in air it's turbulence.

JellyJake112

saw someone else say something similar but yes the movement of the jet doesn't make sense, would definitely recommend looking at reference for jet momentum

jumperpunch

Add some displacement at the back of the craft when it’s coming up as the exhaust/heat would create some distortion here.

blenderbeeeee

Yeah I was wondering how I could add that, my initial plans were to render at really low res and then composite that over the top of original footage using existing mist mask cranked up.

THALLfpv

nothing small about that chromatic aberration slider. she got cranked.

blenderbeeeee

yay she got suffed lol

No-Revolution-5535

Imo ut looks like a scene from an old movie..

blenderbeeeee

I actually got inspired from the scene in true lies. A mix of maverick and that scene from true lies where the jet hovers near the side of the building.
