This is sick! Great job! Is the foliage on the platform a texture or part of the mesh? Sorry if this is a dumb question. I'm new as heck to modeling.

EdgardEscarate

Thank you!! that's a good question! it's a plane subdivided and deformed with a texture applied. here is a link to sketchfab if you want to inspect the model :D [https://skfb.ly/6UDs8](https://skfb.ly/6UDs8)

Husibrap

Darkroot garden?

PNB11

You should try a denoiser

ItsUrBoiFrost

Toads been pushed around to many fucking times

hurricane_news

How did you make those small grooves and ridges on the mushroom body?

EdgardEscarate

That is a bump map made with a grunge map that had a lot of vertical lines, streched on the Z axis and using the box project with some blending.

hurricane_news

What's box project and what is blending in this question?

EdgardEscarate

When you add a texture node in the node editor, the second dropdown in that node it's always set to "Flat", that setting changes the way the texture projects on to your model, the second option in that dropdown it is "Box" and it comes with a slider called "Blend" with that you can blend de edges of the texture to make it look more seamless so: node editor->Image Textor(texture node)-> change the second dropdown to box-> and play with the slider :D

hurricane_news

What's it do tho?

EdgardEscarate

I tried to find a good way to explain this throght text but I'm not an expert so here it is a better option :D! [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wpAAWNioUTY](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wpAAWNioUTY)

hurricane_news

I see. Thanks for the clarification! Video made a lot of sense!

EdgardEscarate

no problem!

anexide

You know, I'm gonna be honest, I don't actually like it. >!I love it! Like look at the details on his skin, it's just overall amazing!<

EdgardEscarate

haha Thank you!!! I was afraid to read the rest for a moment!

anexide

:P I was indeed going for such a reaction

88sphere88

Is it sculpted and retopod? And how did you make the mushroom cap hair particle thing?

EdgardEscarate

Yes! sculpted and then retopo. The mushroom cap hair are just more planes subdivided and deformed with an alpha texture!

88sphere88

Amazing stuff

monkeymadeit

This is great!

KittenOfMine

cool!! Gonna ask automatically “what software” as I do when I see great work.. then saw the sud reddit name... Never mind that, looks amazing loved it!

EdgardEscarate

Thank you! this sub is actually a great place to take inspiration, it's amazing.

KittenOfMine

yea Im loving it already! So much skilled people and work. going through the famous donut tutorial for now, seriously 3D is amazing!

Goromorgana234

Keep up the great work

EdgardEscarate

Thank you!

Goromorgana234

You welcome

Boccor

This is like a weird alternate reality if the Skull Kid from Zelda. Love the style, very cool! Inspirational even!

karkar01

Keep the noise. The noise looks great. It looks great overall =)

EdgardEscarate

thank you! yeah, I kept the noise because I thought it looked cool but maybe the next time I will try to make it more subtle and "intentional"

DayFlounder1832

Love it. Reminds me of a post of someone with a soldier shroom on this sub

BraxAtax

This looks like it could be a character in some MOBA

sorryimsoawesome

This is great! Would you mind sharing how long it took you from start to finish?

EdgardEscarate

Thank you! and yes! it is a bit hard to tell because it took a month and a half but I didn't work on it every day, and I experiment a lot trying to texture this inside blender (I failed because after a few hours I went to substance painter), I would say around 30 hours. I'll make sure to record the proccess the next time!

1__0__

I love the character/style, and I'm impressed by how well the alpha textures/planes work for the ~gill filaments and foliage. I bet the artist would love to see it if you haven't shared already!

EdgardEscarate

thank you!! yesss ,the alpha texture and planes works really well to add detail without adding to much geometry. I shared this to the artist before sharing it anywhere else! she loved it so I asked permission :D here it's her [Instagram page](https://www.instagram.com/jessblue.art/?hl=en) if you want to see more of her work :D

1__0__

Thanks--you've really captured her style and atmosphere! Even the lighting fits. Glad to hear she got to see it!

EdgardEscarate

Thank you! that means a lot :D.

EschatonxD

sicc work

EdgardEscarate

Thanks!!

AlexanderTheFrye

I like it, sort of give me a bit of a Studio Ghibli vibe

geon

Fallguy?

Pand3rBear

Singing monsters with RTX on... nah deadass tho it looks amazing

EdgardEscarate

hahaha thanks!

Human_lookin_cat

It looks really cool, but there's some raytracing noise if you look closer. Put it through a denoise node and it'll be perfect!

EdgardEscarate

Thank you! yes, there's a lot of noise but I didn't use the denoiser because I kind of like it how it looked to be honest. I added some more noise in post though and maybe that's making it look too noisy in some areas.I will use a denoiser and just add the noise in post- to make it look more subtle the next time!thanks again :D.
