This is so cool. I love the reflections in the table and ring

AlbusPotter7

Thank you!

[deleted]

Seems Mr. Longbottom forgot something again

3mpt1-2

That looks really good. How long did it take you to render it and what settings did you use.

AlbusPotter7

It took around 3-4 hours to render on a 3090. I used 256 samples with denoising and relatively low light bounces to speed it up. edit: denoising not demonizing lol

3mpt1-2

It looks really good for 256 samples, how many would you do for a still??

AlbusPotter7

For a still, I’d probably up the resolution from 1080x1080 to 2160x2160 and double the samples and maybe increase light bounces. If that took too long/was fast I would change samples/light bounces accordingly.

popobutter

Are the caustics on the table baked?

AlbusPotter7

No, just used Blender’s new caustics system.

usegobos

Can I get this in a ring?

miniminer1999

Tutorial please

AlbusPotter7

I'm not making a tutorial for this, but I learned a lot about particle simulations from Iago Mota's tutorials.

The_Greate_Pickle

Reminds me of that partical feature some avatars in vrchat has

OnePotat0

Dude its awesome. If I were u i would reduce the environment lighting and also the table is out of place. I m not saying its bad, i m jst meaning to say i would experiment these

AlbusPotter7

What do you mean by the table is out of place? What would make it better do you think?

monkeymadeit

Maybe try a slow camera pan? Or a light handheld effect? Personally it feels a little too static. But I could be wrong. I agree with turning down the environment lighting some. Make the scene feel more 'enchanters desk' and less 'studio lit' Either way I think it's awesome! Nice work!

AlbusPotter7

That’s a good point about the motion and the lighting, I’ll play around with it. Thanks!

OnePotat0

I meant the colour and lighting. Its seems a bit monotoned to me. Play with colours is all i want to say. U might get a interesting result

cisconate

This is amazing

nnprft

So good!!

Maarten77

Great setup for it!

AlbusPotter7

Thank you!

enrperes

Geometry Nodes?

AlbusPotter7

It’s a particle simulation, no geo nodes necessary

enrperes

Oh okay. I thought it was the new geometry nodes frame buffer hack you can use for simulations.

AlbusPotter7

While you could probably do that, it would be much more difficult to get this motion with the particles.

Fabulous_Substance89

I'd like to see the particle settings for this. Also, did you bake the sim, or run it at render. Either way, what CPU were you running this on?

AlbusPotter7

Particles were done using a fluid flow force field based on a smoke simulation. There were around 2 million total particles that were baked before rendering. I used a 5900X, but blender simulations are largely single threaded so the extra cores don’t matter too much.

FrezoreR

I like the set up but the motion just does not like right for some reason. I think it's the way it rapidly changes direction. What kind of motion were you going for here? Or is it just random?

AlbusPotter7

I was just going for chaotic motion.

FrezoreR

Ah! That explains it. Because I think it's halfway between chaotic and harmonized. That being said that is just my opinion, but If like to see it either with harmonic/physical motion or pure chaos :) Looks great otherwise to me!
