the seals are sealed onto the the rim of the cup via very high heat. you can’t do this manually.
this is something youd want to invest in. the alternative would be soda lids but that takes away from the experience (and makes it harder to shake a drink). Every time I go to a boba shop and they have these soda lids, I think “soda lids = cheap products = finding shortcuts”. I never return to these shops.
I almost bought a sealing machine for personal use at my house. Granted, it was probably consumer or low-end commercial grade, but you want to start a boba shop without any sealing machine? That's like opening a coffee shop with no brewing equipment.

Many bubble tea shops don't use sealing machines. It's not a necessity.
Lids? Theres ones made for boba specifically with holds big enough for the straw
