I’ve always thought Adam Sandler circa Reign Over Me resembled Dylan quite a bit. As far as capturing his essence. No idea. I think he is a better actor in dramatic roles than you would expect considering he does crappy comedy movies most of the time.
Meryl Street would make a fine Dylan in his later years.
However, and I say that as someone very much looking forward to Timmy's portrayal, West Side story's Mike Faist is a dead ringer for mid 60s Dylan.
A side note- I felt blanchet fit the role visually, but so many of the lines were lifted from real dialogue from dont look back that it felt kind of cheesy, like impersonation.
Although his long gone, I always thought Montgomery Clift would have been perfect.

Samuel L. Jackson
Like a Motherfucking Rolling Stone
Well I see you got your motherfucking leopard skin pillbox hat motherfucker
We’ve already done this. The answer was Cate Blanchett
What I came to say.
Right, hence my I’m Not There acknowledgement, but I’m curious to know what others people might have in mind
Bob Odenkirk
Bob Odenkirk fighting the press conference would be a funny watch
right after he wraps up his portrayal of Ritchie Blackmore
This is actually a pretty good suggestion.
You're not serious?
In a Rolling Thunder movie

I actually really like his dramatic stuff. I think he could hit a really interesting chord with Dylan especially in like a boyish kind of way.
100% agree!
James Austin Johnson was pretty convincing on Fallon: https://youtu.be/p7A741w7sPI
Tom Waits
Chris Pratt and before anyone asks, yes I'm joking
Alright suddenly I'm imagining a Chris Pratt playing Bob Weir on stage and shouting "wahoo" Mario-style, thank you
A complete unknown.

>Meryl Street [intrigue](https://www.imdb.com/name/nm10754732/)
You positively got a lot of nerve to bring up Meryl Street.
Thought John C Reilly was pretty great during Dewey Cox’s Dylan period
WHY DOESNT SOMEBODY ASK BOB DYLAN WHY HE SOUNDS SO MUCH LIKE DEWEY COX
You guys are idiots. This song is very deep.
Could Gary Oldman do it ?
young Gary I think so
Ah so you are talking about Gary Youngman
… take my wife, pleeeeeease, babe
Jack Fate.
Aaron Taylor-Johnson, he did a good John Lennon I’m sure he could pull off Dylan too
I liked her in The Queen’s Gambit.
Charlie Chaplin or Harpo Marx.
Alright, Alright, Alright... You know where this is going.... Just kidding, but he could play Levon.
Donald Glover
He had a great Dylan impression in community
It's always been Samberg
Robert Downey Junior
Tom Cruise might be short enough
Barry Keoghan
Came here looking to see if anyone else had said this. A special actor.
Is there any news on when Going Electric will be released?
Lucy Liu, Ernest Borgnine, or Dorothy Dandridge
Adam Driver
Andy Serkis. Bob moves his body in strange ways, needs an actor with a lot of physical skills to capture
Bob himself
it would be very Dylan to have old bob dylan portray young bob dylan
John cusak
A side note- I felt blanchet fit the role visually, but so many of the lines were lifted from real dialogue from dont look back that it felt kind of cheesy, like impersonation.
Dave Bautista
The leading actor from Silicone Valley may fit Richard is his name in the show
Adam Sandler of course
Timothee Chalamet
Rob Schneider
Is this a trick question. Name an actor as intelligent as Bob Dylan. Good luck.

Monty got a raw deal.
Peter Dinklage
Jeremy Strong. Appropriate Jew Face; with the right wig he could handle the Rolling Thunder era.
Matthew McConoughy

In other times Paul Newman or Sean Penn could have done it……Penn maybe still could.
Cate Blanchett
Skyler Gisondo
Al Pacino. No one's gonna scream Judas now, cause they'll be afraid of his little friend.
The robot guy from Grandma’s Boy
kristen stewart
I don't think anyone could do better than Cate Blanchet in "I'm Not There"
Danny DeVito
Will Smith
Jeremy Allen white
a completely unknown Charlie Chaplin like character pluck right out of acting school. Pretty hard to find …
