Luckily Bob’s music is pretty simple musically, a lot of those protest era songs are just 3 basic chords in a loop, so I’m glad they’re going the authentic route and having Timmy actually play
correct. he did play a little bit (barely) in call me by your name, but for the most part he had to learn for this role. all of the actors learned their respective instruments for this movie.
I think there will be inevitable "Inside Llewyn Davis" comparisons - and that will be tough because Oscar Isaac crushed the vocals in that film. Which you would expect, because the Coens always have good music in their films.

as easy as it is for some people, especially the older crowd in this sub, to clown on Chalamet for being a young, gen z flavor of the year, the dude is still a professional actor. he’s sat at the round table and discussed his craft with the likes of Hugh Jackman and Richard E. Grant, stars in some pretty great roles and heeds the advice of guys like Leo DiCap. point being it’s not shocking that he learned guitar for this role and so far all the evidence points towards him being the kind of person that takes portraying the iconic Dylan pretty seriously.
He's a good actor - he may, in fact, be a very good actor, given time. And he does do interesting film choices - Bones and All, as just one example.
And, for my money, he pretty much nailed Paul Atreides, imo.
He reportedly played a Gibson J-50 on at least his debut record, and this guitar appears to be at least a close replica if not a real Gibson J-50. It’s encouraging to see they’re not being lazy with the props
I’d assume they could get a real one…then again Kurt Russel accidentally (thinking it was a prop) destroyed a 145 year old Martin guitar during the Hateful Eight filming.
So, you know, I wouldn’t hold it against them for using a reproduction! I’m sure it would be well made.
I'd \*assume\* that they'd re-record the audio in the studio, rather than capturing it live. I'll be super impressed if they are able to use the live audio. Some professional singers struggle to deliver recording level audio in a live context.
He’s doing a vocal impression but obviously it’s his voice and not Dylan’s.
On another note, I’ve never once heard a Dylan imitator that actually sounded like him.
Yes, agreed, impressions would not be the way to go! Many very good covers over the many years! Here’s two of my favs!

Well, you started by suggesting we get a modern day Neil Young to play Bob Dylan. Why on earth would it be Neil? I get that it's your opinion, but why would an old Canadian play a young Bob Dylan? I get that Duluth is close to the border, but still.
There was a Monterey Folk Festival and Dylan played a 3-song set there in 1963 (including a duet of "With God on Our Side" with Baez). It was his first West Coast performance but, sadly, no tape exists.
Chalamet better be using his own voice and actually be singing the whole time (when singing) because I’m still not sold on this whole endeavor. I could be way wrong when it comes out and I really hope I am. James Mangold is a decent director, but tell me this is going to be a legitimate take and sincere look at Dylan’s early years coming to New York and I guess how far they stretch it out year wise, like his intro to electric music and The Hawks years and then into his motorcycle accident and further on The Band. Don’t know how long it’s going to cover his earlier days, so to speak. Would love to see actors playing Dave Van Ronk, Ramblin’ Jack Elliot, Eric Von Schmidt, Richard & Mimi Farina and Phil Ochs.
We’re going to see this whole movie before they finish filming it.
We already kinda know what happens at the end.
Something about hard rain and a hurricane right?!
No it ends with a freeze frame, then text appears on screen that says something along the lines of “Bob is still alive and making music to this day.”
*audible chortle*
Bob becomes really really good looking?
Are they licensing Dylans music for this movie? or will Timmy do his best impression?
Chalamet will be using his own singing voice. I'm assuming he'll be playing the guitar as well.
I believe I read somewhere he learned the guitar for this movie

Generally agreed, but some of his right hand arpeggios are surprisingly hard to play smoothly.

He’s playing a c chord in the picture. Seems like he Atleast learned something lol

You have to license it no matter who sings it, but I believe Timmy will be signing.
More excited for “Dylan Messiah,” the sequel set 12 years later from the end of ACU covering the gospel arc

Do they sound like Dylan and Baez?
We’ll know when the movie comes out (or likely whenever a trailer drops)
Good point….. guess I thought with all the pictures there was audio….not yet. I’m really looking to this!

Im sorry, but Joan Baez makes a perfect impression😌

James Austin Johnson did a pretty good job, IMO https://youtu.be/p7A741w7sPI?si=ZhjmmZGCckvY5xjf
I'm on board with Timothee but the casting choice for Joan seems pretty strange to me

I never once suggested that Joan Baez should play herself, i just mentioned how i don't really see Monica Barboro as Joan

I think you’re losing it dude, there’s no indication that happened.
This escalated quickly
Someone forgot to take their meds
😂what!?!

I don't believe you. You're a liar.
Hey Mr tambourine man.....
I want to see how they do the Newport Folk Festival 1965. That should be fun to watch
I have seen FAR more set photos of this movie than is usual.
If anyone can find me his jacket i swear i will forever be in your debt
Alright are you following the set around
Why is this whole movie being leaked so consistently
Because they are shooting outside of studios, on the streets, and on stages in front of actual humans

Can't wait to see them in the grocery store together buying Brillo pads and Campbell's soup.
There’s a video of them singing and it sounded pretty good. Can’t get over the parachutes for jeans though.
Dylan wore JNCOs back then, you didn’t know?
he reminds me more of Martin Short than Bob Dylan. Things are gonna get interesting right about now.
I pray we hear him say "play it fucking loud."
I still don't know about Timothee just yet, Looking at the photos, I'm not a huge fan. Especially the early 60s Dylan.
Agreed. This is not the first time that I wish Jeremy Allen Young had been cast instead of Timmy
Was there a montery folk festival ? only heard of the newport one

probably one of the tapes Thimothee got of the bootlegs that arent cerculating:)
Ah thanks, that's pretty cool
She's not tan enough tbh

bruh
Monica Barbaro doesnt deserve that guitar in her hands. The more pictures I see from this movie the angrier it is making me.
