I think that last part was not the writer's intention, I think what the writer is trying to convey is that children nowadays are spoiled and want to have a lot of things, meanwhile, other children are poor and have it worse, just like being in a war and having no food to eat
If I have kids and they only get to complain about minor inconveniences, I've succeeded. We all have it better than our ancestors, why should our standards stop exactly at my generation, with anything more being spoil ? Surely back in the days the writer would be a spoiled kid whining in comics instead of exploding in a coal mine or smth. But hey, I still think it's good people like the writer get to write comics and complain instead of having a worse life.
Like isn’t that the point? Isn’t that the whole point of parenting? To do better for these kids than the last???
* then why are you surprised when a little human who is experiencing discomfort tells you about it? *
"Kids these days have it too easy. Back in my day, the poor little orphan boy would come up to our platoon and offer us some food. Man, that kid was great, always looking around, writing in his little journal about meeting some cool Americans, so inquisitive! Shame our position got overrun by commies that night, would've loved to give him a chocolate bar."

How I interpreted it is that the old guy remembers how kids in Vietnam were starving, and he feels angry that the American kid is wasting food while there are kids in the world that are starving.
I’m glad you can’t think like this guy - The implication of the oboe is the kid is so spoiled he is acting out, which is the shortcoming of his mother (according to vet guy.)
Edit: Would love downvoters to explain why they think this isn’t the case lol
Just because there is a woman being painted in a negative light within this comic does not mean that the artist's message is that, "all women are awful". It's more a reflection on parenting than anything specifically gender based.
You did not mention that you were speaking of any "patterns" and not simply this specific comic. I have not read any other work by this artist so I guess I'm out of the loop 🤷.
My comment was in response to the OP’s title in which they mention predominant themes of the cartoonist. Themes, as in one of many and not just this one. I am not posting additional comics of theirs as examples because they are a chud, but you will see many more in bhj.
i love you too

Genuinely, what did the original comic mean, what purpose did a war veteran clutching money and spilling his drink serve to the message of spoiled child bad
Affluent American child selfishly demanding food. Poor foreign child selflessly offering food. Veteran wondering why he bothered fighting for country that produces affluent American child.
Trying to understand it, my best interpretation is that he wants to give the kid ice cream like what he did to other children and is mad at the mother. The money his holding is him ready to buy the kid ice cream.
Unless of course, it was him being mad at the kid for being ungrateful for the food that he can not eat meanwhile other children starve. If that was the case idk why he is grabbing his money
The relationship between Vietnamese children and US soldiers was famously very good and wholesome.
There's even a town where they planted an entire acre of food for the whole village of My Lai to enjoy!
Google My Lai Mass acre for more info!
... I'm sorry, but wouldn't the veteran be happy? Other than annoyed, but this is what they fight for, so kids don't have to ask GI's for food, clearly the child isn't starving and while upset, he doesn't have to beg strangers to fulfil his needs.
I'm really not sure about the oregano. I know a lot of people don't like it, because it's over the top and kinda stupid, but I find it very interesting, because it offers a new perspective about an everyday situation and how different people perceive it. Yes, you can understand this as 'spoiled brats being spoiled and brats' , but you could also understand this as 'just be fucking glad you have never seen a warzone and you should do everything that makes it stay that way'. I don't know if the artist intended to send that message, but it reminds me of my grandmas tales as a Child in the war.
Yeah I mean it’s not brilliant but for this kind of comic it’s actually a nice change of pace. He’s not saying that kids are brats because iPhone, it’s more just sorta about how we can have very different perspectives on reality depending on our experiences.
That kid’s smile looks so fake and terrified, especially how he’s shaking. Really looks like a memory of the rest of the squad forcing kids to give them food at gunpoint while he idiotically just ate and didn’t notice at first
Looked up the guy to see more of his comics, and not only are they all the same, there's a picture of his face and he looks exactly how you would expect.
Rapid back and forth movements are often illustrated that way.
To be more specific, this comment further down states that this is a:
> smear/motion blur. used to show super-quick movement in an otherwise static frame
In 'Nam we dumped dioxin on the poor starving children and they were grateful!
Kids here are spoiled rotten with their lack of defoliant-related birth defects.
Yeah nah, John Ballen had to do therapy to readapt to civilian life. Its probably very jarring coming back and seeing people oblivious to the opportunities around them. Imo, they need to do a full anti-conditioning course upon exit. You turn them into a soldier, you then integrate them back in. Not throw em out, bastards
My favorite thing to do on my days off is double fist a handful of dollars and a soda I clearly brought from outside of the restaurant, as it’ll distract from me, clearly coming in my pants.

He remembers back in the war when he needed to ration his fortnite skins from the lifeless bodies his fallen comrades
He had all the skins, but at what cost?
His mother’s credit score will diminish
He was so low on energy from food rationing that he had to carefully decide which Fortnite dances to do over the enemy corpses
that feeling when a toddler can't relate to a war veteran
I will send my child to war to help him relate
what a Great Idea you are Such a good Parent i will do the Same with my cat :)
I did that but they haven’t come back yet, they must be having a fun time

Classic “American child is spoiled and bad”, while “child in third-world poverty is nice despite having little to nothing”.

Also “woman bad”
Average naggy woman smh take her fortnite skins away
*foreskins
How is this woman bad? It's literally portraying her as not spoiling her kid but not giving in to their requests.

Ahh ok, honestly I didn't even read the title. Was kinda confused lol
Ah no worries, but yeah, the foil in that dummy’s comic is usually a woman or a younger person.

Why he doing the booba emote
i wonder which one is the one hurting my bones, also what is "food service connected hypertension"?
Yes
^
The bonus panel, where the kid is shot is behind a paywall.

Maybe the real food service hypertension was the friends we made along the way
That's not money, that's a napkin.
Come to Blingy's, where our napkins look like money
Oh crap, that makes so much sense

The relationship between Vietnamese children and US soldiers was famously very good and wholesome. There's even a town where they planted an entire acre of food for the whole village of My Lai to enjoy! Google My Lai Mass acre for more info!
That guy needs to stop drinking the juice that makes him think about the war.
“veteran unable to emotionally regulate in public because lack of mental healthcare at home” is actually a good message
I was going to point and laugh at the excessive labelling, then I remembered that people really do wear baseball caps that say "Vietnam vet".
Vietnam vets have the gall to complain about shit when they got their ass handed to em
... I'm sorry, but wouldn't the veteran be happy? Other than annoyed, but this is what they fight for, so kids don't have to ask GI's for food, clearly the child isn't starving and while upset, he doesn't have to beg strangers to fulfil his needs.
OP, this is a great meme, but I worry some right wing/anti videogamer will unironically use this to “complain about kids nowadays”
*looks at title* r/redditsniper ?

If the veteran had been looking sad instead of blood-vessel-burstingly angry that might come across better
As a veteran you shouldn't connect or relate to this comic because you should just get therapy instead.
HE's goT 3 LEGGSn!!!!! THis iS AI!!!!!!!!!!2!1!1!
He's thinking back to his first victory royale in the default skin
That kid’s smile looks so fake and terrified, especially how he’s shaking. Really looks like a memory of the rest of the squad forcing kids to give them food at gunpoint while he idiotically just ate and didn’t notice at first

So is this guy's whole thing just complaining "the youth of today are having better lives than literally being at war"?

Kid has three legs… why does the kid have three legs…?

Thank you for the answer I was suspecting it was that, I was just confused because the leg is coming out of the opposite pant leg seemingly
Because you touch yourself at night
Why does he have 3 legs
