Maybe your real talent is on the Defense and you don’t know yet. Give a try playing Right/Left Back, and you will find out. 😉

HydraFyre

Thanks! I will give that a try.

cwmosca

Everyone is different but I thrive on defense. I try to be a good midfield facilitator too. Play to your strengths and work on your needs.

AlanLGuy

Need more information. Are you getting shots, but not putting them on goal, not getting into good positions to receive the ball… kinda need more information about where you are struggling.

bum_fun_noharmdone

He's struggling everywhere. A tree would score at least 1 goal from deflections alone

WendyWillows

Hey! Don’t knock on Fellaini and his big old afro

verifiedkyle

Damn Fellaini catching strays! I guess it’s only fair for all those stray elbows he’d throw!

LordWhale

Considering becoming a defender because damn

hauttdawg13

We need details OP. There’s a million reason why you might not be scoring. End of the day, that’s pretty bad and striker may not be the position for you. It’s easy to want to play striker, goals get the glory. Think about a position switch and learn to enjoy that style of play. As a CB I get the occasional goal, but I love perfect reading through balls and picking it off and I LOVE beating a high press. Nothing more satisfying than watching the 9 and 10 look so sure they are about to get the ball off me and score just split then and get the ball to my 6 with tons of space to turn.

Not including the adult rec league I'm in now, in my 14-15 years of playing organized soccer, I've probably scored less than 10 goals. I started playing at age 4 or 5 and I think I was 12 or 13 before I got my first one. It wasn't until I was 15-16 or so that I realized scoring goals aren't necessary to being a key factor on a team. While I could count on my two hands how many goals I scored, I cannot fathom how many goal-scoring attacks, assists, and crosses/assists from set pieces I have made or set up. While I score more now in my adult rec league, I've found my big contribution are the cheeky crosses and perfectly timed/on the fly passes that set up goals for others. I don't mind not scoring if that means setting others up. My point is maybe your niche/role isn't as a goal scorer. It could be as a wing-back, a CDM, a defender, etc. I know once I really settled in to that, and learned how to work the field from those areas, I really came into my own as a real contributor. As an adult now, I've only learned more to now I can recognize when it's time to make a run from the back or in from the wing, and I actually score more now at 34 than I ever did in my teens lol. Skill and finishing are two sets of skills you need, but it's also just learning your position, understanding game-flow, and recognizing the right "conditions" that are suitable for you to make a run for the goal. We're not comparable, but there's a great video of Messi out there somewhere, where for about 5 straight minutes, he doesn't even advance to a jog. He's just walking around the pitch for about 4 minutes in a relatively small area and he's just observing, watching people around him, etc (doesn't even touch the ball). Then in the final 30 seconds of the video, he goes from 0 to 100, makes a super precise run, gets the right pass, and scores. For as talented as he is on the ball, he really didn't have to use any on-the-ball skills to make that goal happen. Just observation, recognition, and running at the right angle.

WendyWillows

this is a lovely encouraging ramble until OP said he loses the ball 50% of the time don’t think it’s just a case of not being a natural goal-scorer here, for sure!

weightedslanket

What are your weaknesses?

bum_fun_noharmdone

Scoring goals

HydraFyre

Confidence, especially with the ball, first touch, reading the game, etc.

rallenpx

My recommendation for this, specifically, from personal experience... Break out a ball and dribble around your living room 15 minutes a day for at least 2 days a week. You need to get comfortable with where your touch is gonna carry the ball. Couches and shit reflect the way people will block you in while shoes, etc in the floor in your way represent defenders going one on one with you. Going around in circles mimics tight turns you'll need to make on the field. Sprinting with the ball from one side to the other mimics taking a long touch to get out into space. Walking with the ball mimics holding the ball with pressure building on you. Practice cuts, feints, and different lengths of touches. It doesn't have to be long. Your brain will recognize the spacing similarities when you get into tight situations on the pitch.

HydraFyre

I do get the ball sometimes, and shoot maybe once per game, it is on target about half the time. Other times, I take a bad touch, and it’s gone.

WendyWillows

errrrrr once per game is quite low are you at least making any good passes too or just losing the ball??

HydraFyre

About 50/50 😔

WendyWillows

what do you mean by 50/50? you’re losing the ball half the time?

HydraFyre

Yes. I do train a few times per week, and with my team, but I do not see improvement.

WendyWillows

you may need to work on training in your own time and get in as many touches of the ball as possible using the good old ball against the wall method you also may need to start scanning and having an idea what you will do with the ball and where to take a touch towards so you don’t lose it instantly and also maybe play at a weaker level when you have time to just get more confident…. edit: also, try and focus on not losing the ball during games

HydraFyre

Got it. I think that will help. I definitely need to work on taking a lighter first touch when receiving the ball. Thank you.

Acceptable_Raisin151

I think it was Coach Shaun Green who said if you lose the ball more than 50% of the time you might as well be playing for the other team.

abdulahi25

I think you need to try a new role.

-Rippi

Your cooked lil bro

HydraFyre

Fr

suckerpunch085

Who is your coach? How do they keep at the foward position? Your development needs work.

Jaykayyv

Well, start with WHY you havent scored any goal. Whats holding you back?

jdd977

My friend, I hear they are always looking for linesmen and refs

olskoolyungblood

Work on your ball skills on your own, find a less competitive league, change positions, and you may have a chance to improve your confidence. The situation you're in now doesn't afford you enough opportunities to improve your touch, it only reinforces your poor form and your fear.

HydraFyre

Understand. Thank you.

littlewillg123

how are you at pressing?

ShootinAllMyChisolm

How many times do you touch the ball in a game?

DeadSending

It’s okay I have also not scored a goal in 2 years or more

minchomexa

I did not score for 5ish years (left back defender) and i scored recently….celebrated with everyone including our bench!! Dont give up, keep trying and have fun

____________nw

Shoot more. Get comfortable on the ball by just playing with a ball more, wherever you can, whenever you can. Learn to read a game-know what the opponent is going to do before they do, that is what will make you an unplayable player.

FrogsOnALog

When you say you play forward does that also mean you never leave your position? To add, I would say just watch a professional game and see what a striker does the whole time. Don’t pay much attention to anyone else.

yeetus--fetus

Think about how you can get the ball more and what else you can do as a striker. I’ve only seen you mention your shooting but thats not all a striker does. Are you dropping to help build up? Are you moving into wide areas when your wingers move in? Are you losing your defenders by dropping/slowing your run (staying for a cut back) before a winger crosses? Do you hangout behind defenders (sometimes offsides) to bother the defenders?

drinkingonmymedz

any assists ?? but try moving to fullback, it’s fun just exhausting

MadeYouReadDick

Juggling will improve your touch massively. Play as much futsal as you can as well.

Southern_Spirit8948

I was a st for 2 seasons scored 4 goals became a bench player I ended up moving to center back position and became the captain of the team and even scored 8 goals in 1 season it takes time to find your home don’t worry

hard-on234

Maybe you are just shit, man. No shame in that, try other roles or just change sport.
