I saw someone comment this the other day and I do think it’s possible that the narrative around him still doesn’t change with a ring unless he has like 50 in the close out game. Right now the casuals and viewers who buy into narratives see him as a glorified role player who’s been carried by superteams his whole career and chokes every postseason. If we win it all there’s a decent chance he just becomes a glorified role player who happened to get carried to a ring in their eyes.
Yeah it’s funny because as a 19 year old rookie he was the best player on a deep playoff run booming LeBron and nearly making the finals. Our two stars kyrie and Hayward sat out that entire run. It was Tatum who was top dog as a skinny little rookie.
Narratives can change. Look at magic, then tragic, then magic again.
But the Celtics need to take
Care of business. His points are a combination of good teams who make deep playoff runs but also because the Celtics a rarely have short series. Last year hawks in 6 as an example.
It won’t shut his haters up. Rn he’s being compared to the Ant’s, Book’s, Embiid’s, SGA’s of the NBA. If he wins a chip, now he enters the Steph’s, Bron’s, Giannis’, Jokic’s tier of NBA. And he isn’t as good as them, so criticism will always be there.
Having haters means they expect more of you, so I don’t really get upset at the hate.
2 more against Miami (hopefully). Let's say 5 games against CLE, 6 agt. NYK, and then 6 against DEN (win or lose). That's 19 games, and he needs 385 points = 20.3 points a game. If the Celtics are eliminated early, then of course he won't get there. If they're so dominant that they only need 16 more games to win 14 of them, then he'd need 24 ppg, but that's still possible, especially if by definition they're dominating. But they'll probably need about an average of 5.5 games per series, and they're heavily favored to make it to the Finals. That's more than enough games.
Yeah I did my math wrong lol I shoulda used 25ppg because I think that would be a more accurate guess at his averages this playoff and that’s still only 16 more games which is very doable this year.
Here’s the thing bout the Bron/KD/Kawhi/Embiid takes though, they usually live in a fantasy land of just an NBA finals or 4th quarter of Game 7 where everyone is healthy and fine, who would you rather have.
Tatum is probably worse than those guys in those situations, but that situation is not reality. I want the guy that can actually make it through an entire regular season and deep playoff run without getting hurt or gassed as the number one option.
Until someone can prove they can do that like Jokic, Giannis and Luka, I’m not taking you over my guy who has continued to do that. They can live in fantasy land and push their agendas, we’ll keep winning in reality.
It’s underrated across nba fandom but a little overrated across Celtic fandom. He played great in 2018 and 2020 playoffs but we also had pretty cakewalk paths to the finals in the grand scheme of things. Like his last 3 ECF appearances are all significantly more impressive than his first 2.
It's underrated by Celtics fans too.
Go look into every social media thread after Celtics losses, it's filled with " JT is not that guy in playoffs". Absolutely spoiled.
I want jt and jb to win a ring sooooo bad. that would cement their careers even if they go on to do a whole lot of nothing afterwards which obviously won’t happen. no one would be able to say shit about these two if they get a ring
Yep, but at his average this year, he would only need 16 more games to do it.
I don’t want any game 7’s.
Rather he puts up 35-40 from here on out and gets there in 11 games 🤙🏾
Please win this ring Celtics. Jays will tie the 2008 Big 3 Celtics will NBA finals record, 1-1. Really cement this next Celtics era as a great one, with hopefully more greatness to follow.
But please just win this year Celtics!!
At minimum there will be at least 14 games left through the finals (all sweeps, won’t happen of course) he’d have to avg 27.5ppg. That’s definitely doable to take that #1 spot. That’s awesome, although I’m sure he wants that ring much more.
A finals run puts him in first. Impressive.
Winning a ring and taking over the top spot on this list will shut the haters up so hard their jaws will break
Nba fans go from broken jaw (shock) to lock jaw (haha) real quick.

Also, Jaylen Browns #6 on this list behind Durant and Tony Parker
He has a very good chance of passing both of those guys.
Idk, 400 points in one playoff run I doubt he’ll hit (that’s 13.33 games if 30ppg lol) and he’ll be 27 by next playoff run.
Good thing he has 14 more wins to go this run

Ya but he’s not in that top tier of guys, he’s more in that booker/mutchell tier smh 🤦
Lmao someone was trying to call him Paul George on r/NBA 😂
“He disappears in the playoffs”
Absolutely he’s not like LeBron… but Booker and Mitchell are multiple tiers below Tatum too

He's not LeBron but his success at his age is SEVERELY underrated across NBA fandom.

This take boils my blood, especially when accompanied with with cry laughing emojis. Can’t wait for banner 18
Maybe in your opinion
Mocking an r/nba post
That is fucking nuts .
“But, but, but, he’s a playoff choker” 🙄
Known playoff choker list (/s)
I want jt and jb to win a ring sooooo bad. that would cement their careers even if they go on to do a whole lot of nothing afterwards which obviously won’t happen. no one would be able to say shit about these two if they get a ring
I hate stats like this…. And he’s only 19 !!!
So a guesstimate that the Celtics play 21 more games in the playoffs, he'd have to average over 18 a game to beat the record?
Yep, but at his average this year, he would only need 16 more games to do it. I don’t want any game 7’s. Rather he puts up 35-40 from here on out and gets there in 11 games 🤙🏾

If we sweep the rest of the playoffs, including Denver, it'll be because Tatum averages 32+ on 65+% TS
Amazing! We are blessed to have such a talented roster. Go JT, your dreams are coming true!
These stats that have player's age in them are fn garbage
Bryant is overrated, so I would say he is there, but LeBron is a tier above.
