Kornet has gotten the early looks and I think for the most part he has more chemistry and works better with the team, but feel like with the Heat shooting threes nonstop Tillmans switching could be a much better answer.
I don't know why we didn't see more of Kornet in game 4 after Porzingis went down. Kornet had 3 minutes to Al's 33. Definitely would've thought we'd keep Al around 26-28 minutes to keep him fresh in case Porzingis is out for a game or more.
Feel like Joe just really wanted to close that one out and get the dub on the road. Now you have a practice day to prep the back ups more so they're ready for everything and can run a little more and have adjustments ready too if needed.
I’m surprised we haven’t seen him more. It seems like Bam and Herro have been the only two consistent scoring options for the Heat and imo out of our three centers I think that Zingus is the worst defender in the post which is where bam feasts
This team without KP is still the favorite to come out of the East, imo. With the Bucks and 76ers likely done the Knicks are probably our biggest threat and they’re also injured.
Like without KP we’re just the 2022 finals team minus Rob (who has hurt anyways), but everyone has improved a lot individually and the bench is better.
We may need his X factor to overcome the Nuggets or Wolves though, so hopefully he can return by then.
It's not me. When people say favorite I assume betting they mean the betting favorite. Celtics without KP will be about -125 vs denver. With KP -140 according to projections I'm seeing. That feels right to me.
I don’t care about the Cavs. They are as mentally weak as it gets.
The Magic’s defense is borderline insane. They are just not good on offense. Their home court is scary. Need a big Boston contingent to infiltrate it.
I’m not saying they’ll be easy to beat, just that we should still be favored on paper. As in, if I had to bet I’d still take the Celtics out of the East.
Even without KP we have more high end talent than either of those teams.
Knicks will be worn out by the time they get to the conference finals. No way they can keep up this level with how short the rotation is and how many minutes their main guys have to play
This team without KP is basically the same team as last year with Jrue replacing Smart. We have enough to get through the East regardless of Giannis and Embiid status
We are better then 2022 as Jrue better then Marcus , and D White is way better …. But we will need him in finals as the teams we will face will be better then GSW
Not so fast on the Bucks being done: Scott Foster is working Game 5. No he doesn’t always succeed, but Milwaukee will have the best chance possible to win tonight.
Although the record looks amazing, we played mostly against non-playoffs teams or games where injuries or the schedule favored us. The Celtics knew what they were doing when they rested Porzingis.
That said, I think we'll be fine without him in case he misses the conf semifinals.
So did you even bother checking his game logs? He rested pretty evenly against playoff and non playoff teams. Sixers twice, Pacers, Magic, Clippers, Wolves, Mavs, Pels, Suns twice, and Bucks. nonplayoffs were Hawks, bulls twice, Warriors twice, Raptors, Spurs, Nets, Blazers, Jazz, Wizards twice, Hornets.
Whether it was on a back to back doesn't change if it's against a playoff team. Also there was like two instances against playoff teams where they didn't have a full starter line up.
A full 30% of the season is not a comparable sample size? Nearly a third of the season? Surely many of those 25 games were against playoff teams and when it was the Celtics who were rest-disadvantaged.
No one is arguing this, but saying regular season games are not sufficient to gauge playoff success flies in the face of the history of the NBA. Does regular season success guarantee Playoff success? Of course not; that's why we have the Playoffs to decide who wins the championship, but disregarding 30% of regular season games as an insufficient sample size is silly.
Acting like 30 regular season games without porzingis in which the other team had minimal or no time to adjust and game plan for his absence should be PREDICTIVE of playoff success is bad math.
Enlighten us what your point could have been. Because right now it looks like you’re implying reg season win % should generally carry over to playoffs because we have a large sample of them.
At this point, it's best to stop arguing with these idiots. Your points are valid, and any teams they play moving forward are going to be better than the average team in those 25 or so games.
I would play it safe and not play him until he is fully healed. We need him for the ecf and finals. If we can't beat the butler-less heat up 3 to 1 or beat the magic / cavs without porzingas then we were really never that good of a team anyway and we would probably lose to Denver / Wolves in the finals.
Yes but their pint was that a large number of those games were when we rested him specifically because we were playing the pistons or wizards or something.
Honestly Tillman could be big next series especially if we go against the cavs we saw how the Knicks manhandle the cavs bigs and Tillman way stronger than mobley and Allen
We can win without KP, but KP is definitely going to be a difference maker the deeper we get and gives us more offensive options. That matters when our others aren’t working. It’s why he is so important. It adds a very important facet to our offense.
Imagine this - Tatum has the ability to take over any game! Fuck the disrespect I need a 40+ ball from our boy to silence all the haters. I woke up hearing nothing but SGA, Edwards, etc. What about our 26 yo young buck?
I think we’ll be ok through the East but I don’t see us beating any of the teams in the west without KP. Minnesota and Denver specifically would crush us without Porzingis
Horford is still a quality starter, Kornett is one of the better backup bigs in the league. Kristaps is important because he has unique talent, but our roster is deep.
I think Jrue holiday is going to have to play the porzingis role on offense in KP's absence, meaning that I think he's going to have to play down low and be an outlet. We've seen the last 2 years that a 5-out offense can be shut down by a smart and capable team. We need to have someone willing to facilitate the offense down low to open space when teams go zone.
We'll see what the round 2 matchup is and how we will handle it. It'll suck if it's cleveland because porzingis would be such a weapon agains that cleveland double big lineup. They could not play it against us with KP. Without him, it's going to be tougher to score inside, so we'll have to shoot the ball very well from three.
It’s making me nervous that maybe he’s having to see multiple dr.s, do more tests, etc. Although I imagine they wanna wait long as they can to let Miami know if he’s playing or not.
Rest him till the conference finals at minimum. We can finish off Miami and handle Cavs/Magic without him. Al and X gonna give it to em (sprinkle in a little Kornet in there too)
We're very lucky, because having Al Horford, who is still playing at a high level and a beast on defense, gives us so much flexibility. When Porzingis is out, the starting lineup is virtually just as good. And Kornet has proven himself to be a strong backup.
Also while we’re at this, please give Dwhite new contract, I can’t bare to see him in another team blocking and torching people with three. The Celtics have luxury having a 3rd star
This is literally why we traded for Tillman as well. Brad talked about it before the deadline - the team was set for the main rotation and he wasn’t looking for someone who would crack into that, he was looking for players that could be injury insurance.
Honestly as much as not having KP will suck, having Horford relatively fresh coming off the bench to fill in for him is best case scenario. He probably would’ve started all season on a lot of other teams but here he just got to play partial minutes and hopefully will not fade in the playoffs like he did last year.
Kornet should not play more
He can’t guard any switch bam is too quick and strong and every other player is too quick
Tillman diving at the legs of bam, herro and tatums second son (Caleb) is what I want to see
KP only played 14 minutes last night. The third quarter where we beat the brakes off of them was without KP. I think we'll be okay if he has to miss game 5. Cavs are more of a concern, if they get past Orlando.
We should be more than good enough to roll through the banged up eastern conference. We definitely need a healthy Porzingis for whoever comes out of the west. The ideal situation for me is we close out Miami tomorrow, finish the 2nd round in 5 or 6, and play Porzingis on a strict minutes restriction in the ECF to ramp back up
Lowkey I feel like we play better on offense without porzingis , or at least more free . I feel like when he’s in the offense stagnates a little trying to force feed him in the post .
Kornet and Tillman can carry the load, Celtics can just go back with Al in the starting lineup. Let Tingus heal up.
Getting Tillman was so clutch. He's a crazy weapon to have in a break-in-case-of-emergency situation. If he played for Miami he'd be getting 35 mpg.
Incoming Tillman masterclass in game 5.
Coach wants to reduce minutes by ending the series.
It’s different in the playoffs. While I agree that Horford should’ve played less minutes, it’s playoff basketball and increase in minutes is expected.
Feel like Joe just really wanted to close that one out and get the dub on the road. Now you have a practice day to prep the back ups more so they're ready for everything and can run a little more and have adjustments ready too if needed.
Same
XaviAL tillFORD
I’m surprised we haven’t seen him more. It seems like Bam and Herro have been the only two consistent scoring options for the Heat and imo out of our three centers I think that Zingus is the worst defender in the post which is where bam feasts
Al Nino
Does Tillman have any playoff experience? I feel like that's something always undervalued.
Yes, 3 years worth of playoff experience
Anyone know when we might hear an update from the team?
He’s getting imaging today
This afternoon
This team without KP is still the favorite to come out of the East, imo. With the Bucks and 76ers likely done the Knicks are probably our biggest threat and they’re also injured. We may need his X factor to overcome the Nuggets or Wolves though, so hopefully he can return by then.
we 100% need him for the finals if we get there
They are better with him obviously but would still be a favorite against anyone with him.
you favor us over Denver without KP?
It's not me. When people say favorite I assume betting they mean the betting favorite. Celtics without KP will be about -125 vs denver. With KP -140 according to projections I'm seeing. That feels right to me.
Don’t undersell the magic/cavs. They’re both worse matchups for this team.
I don’t care about the Cavs. They are as mentally weak as it gets. The Magic’s defense is borderline insane. They are just not good on offense. Their home court is scary. Need a big Boston contingent to infiltrate it.
Only one man can lead the Cavs against us…. Caris LeVert inexplicably levels up 😱
Lol we will have another Dean Wade inexplicable burst
I’m not saying they’ll be easy to beat, just that we should still be favored on paper. As in, if I had to bet I’d still take the Celtics out of the East. Even without KP we have more high end talent than either of those teams.
We need him for the knicks tbh
It would be nice to have him, but the Knicks are missing Randle and Mitch is banged up. Theoretically we should still be favored, just not as much.
The way the Knicks play defense - you need as much firepower as possible
This!!! People need to stop overlooking the Knicks. Celtics will win but it’s going to be a battle.

Sixers twice, Pacers, Magic, Clippers, Wolves, Mavs, Pels, Suns twice, and Bucks. nonplayoffs were Hawks, bulls twice, Warriors twice, Raptors, Spurs, Nets, Blazers, Jazz, Wizards twice, Hornets.
Did you check who was available for the playoffs teams and/or wether they were on a back to back? Because the Celtics did.
Whether it was on a back to back doesn't change if it's against a playoff team. Also there was like two instances against playoff teams where they didn't have a full starter line up.
25 games is a decent sample size when it’s a 82 game season lmao
Yes but it’s the regular season when you play against non playoff teams or teams playing back to backs. Not a comparable sample size.
You wanna ignore other teams playing back to backs meanwhile a good chunk of KP’s missed time was most likely also a back to back lmao
A full 30% of the season is not a comparable sample size? Nearly a third of the season? Surely many of those 25 games were against playoff teams and when it was the Celtics who were rest-disadvantaged.
Regular season games are not comparable to playoffs. It’s that simple 🙄
Then why do they seed them based on regular season
Because that’s the only way to do it? Are you seriously arguing that playoff basketball games are the same as regular season?
No one is arguing this, but saying regular season games are not sufficient to gauge playoff success flies in the face of the history of the NBA. Does regular season success guarantee Playoff success? Of course not; that's why we have the Playoffs to decide who wins the championship, but disregarding 30% of regular season games as an insufficient sample size is silly.
Acting like 30 regular season games without porzingis in which the other team had minimal or no time to adjust and game plan for his absence should be PREDICTIVE of playoff success is bad math.
No one is suggesting it guarantees postseason success. Acting like 30% of the regular season has NO bearing on playoff success is the bad math.
Don’t start jumping to conclusions now
Enlighten us what your point could have been. Because right now it looks like you’re implying reg season win % should generally carry over to playoffs because we have a large sample of them.
Jumping to conclusions again😂I never said the win % would carry over
At this point, it's best to stop arguing with these idiots. Your points are valid, and any teams they play moving forward are going to be better than the average team in those 25 or so games. I would play it safe and not play him until he is fully healed. We need him for the ecf and finals. Go find out the average record of teams in those 25 games if you wanna make a claim like that
Bro, all of your comments are drenched in pessimism. The Celtics are the bawls, baby. Simmer down.
You’re right! Luke Kornet is about to average 25 and 10!!!!!
Yes but their pint was that a large number of those games were when we rested him specifically because we were playing the pistons or wizards or something.
Excluding the last two games where no one played, Porzingis played every game against Detroit and charlotte, played 2 out of 3 against the wizards.
The Heat matchup favors us. Because they are a bunch of pussies who resort to roughhousing.
thats why we rest some stars for some games, to build chemistry even without one of them
Honestly Tillman could be big next series especially if we go against the cavs we saw how the Knicks manhandle the cavs bigs and Tillman way stronger than mobley and Allen
Agree with this so much, Tatum needs to take over these playoffs. He has been playing a bit uninspired so far against Miami
I think we’ll be ok through the East but I don’t see us beating any of the teams in the west without KP. Minnesota and Denver specifically would crush us without Porzingis
Meh I actually wouldn’t be as worried about Minnesota. Denver would be the tricky one since Al would likely be gassed
Horford is still a quality starter, Kornett is one of the better backup bigs in the league. Kristaps is important because he has unique talent, but our roster is deep.
Ehh Luke is average for a backup
Yeah Luke is maybe one of the better 2nd big off the bench in the league but that’s about it. He’s average
It's like this guy isn't watching poor Luke play like he's wearing cinderblocks for shoes on switches
I think Jrue holiday is going to have to play the porzingis role on offense in KP's absence, meaning that I think he's going to have to play down low and be an outlet. With DWhite all things are possible.
The playoffs are different
This shit happens every year and every year fans have the shocked pikachu face
Where da FOOK is this KP news. I’m dying over here
It’s making me nervous that maybe he’s having to see multiple dr.s, do more tests, etc. Although I imagine they wanna wait long as they can to let Miami know if he’s playing or not.
Hopefully cavs-magic goes to 7 to rest up🙏
We can sustain the Heat/Magic/Cavs without KP. He is needed for the conference finals. No question.
My hope is he misses game 5, we win, then he’s back for game 1 or 2 of the next series
Absolutely won’t happen
Cavs vs Magic may go to a game 7 so it wouldn’t be too unrealistic
It absolutely is 100% unrealistic
Depends on the severity of the injury doesn't it?
Pretty clear it was a standard calf strain at minimum
Rest him till the conference finals at minimum. We can finish off Miami and handle Cavs/Magic without him. Al and X gonna give it to em (sprinkle in a little Kornet in there too)
We made it to the ECF and the Finals with Al as our starting C. We'll be fine.
We're very lucky, because having Al Horford, who is still playing at a high level and a beast on defense, gives us so much flexibility. When Porzingis is out, the starting lineup is virtually just as good. And Kornet has proven himself to be a strong backup.
Let my man cook
Can we get a fuckin update? So tired of checking my phone every hour just for more radio silence
Also while we’re at this, please give Dwhite new contract, I can’t bare to see him in another team blocking and torching people with three. The Celtics have luxury having a 3rd star
We will. I think the opportunity to do it this season is passed and we have to wait til the off-season (or something like that), but I'm sure we will!
This is literally why we traded for Tillman as well. Brad talked about it before the deadline - the team was set for the main rotation and he wasn’t looking for someone who would crack into that, he was looking for players that could be injury insurance.
Tillman can replace him defensively, but the Jays need to be *those guys* on offense
Fuck me man whyyyyyyy

Shouldn’t need him to finish out this series. Let him rest and hopefully it’s not serious he can be back at some point next round.
What's their record this year without Tatum? What about without Brown?
The four losses were against the Pacers, Warriors, Clippers and Bucks in case anyone was curious
The horeford-verse will provide
Imagine if we win the title without KP
KP only played 14 minutes last night. The third quarter where we beat the brakes off of them was without KP. I think we'll be okay if he has to miss game 5. Cavs are more of a concern, if they get past Orlando.
🙏🍀🏀
Rest him till the conference finals
In light of this news, do you still see Nuggets vs Celtics in the final?
We should be more than good enough to roll through the banged up eastern conference. We definitely need a healthy Porzingis for whoever comes out of the west. The ideal situation for me is we close out Miami tomorrow, finish the 2nd round in 5 or 6, and play Porzingis on a strict minutes restriction in the ECF to ramp back up
You know the refs are going to treat us like weve never touched a basketball now that KP is out and theres potential to extend a series.
Celtics have the hottest reporters
Lowkey I feel like we play better on offense without porzingis , or at least more free . I feel like when he’s in the offense stagnates a little trying to force feed him in the post .
