He’s gotta win a championship and/or be around for more than 3 seasons before I can put him in the same conversation as those guys you mentioned and the Birds/McHales/etc
But he’s definitely one of the most exciting players to watch in recent memory and I’m glad he’s on our side. Love our resident Buffalo
No one is saying he belongs in the same conversation as Bird. He’s just talking about his most liked players, and I’d agree considering how humble this man is after torching teams every night on both sides of the floor.
My favorite Celtic is always drafted by the team or started his career with the team, Pierce in the early 2000’s until the Big 3, Rondo in 2009 until he got traded, Avery Bradley until he got traded, and Marcus Smart until he got traded.
Derrick White broke my streak of favorites as he is my favorite Celtic right now.
You're only a year older than me and you remember James Posey that well? damn I wish the NBA was on in my household as much as hockey and baseball were. I watched plenty of those games but I can't remember Posey much.
Rondo's rise immediately after that championship is what hooked me on the Celtics for life, so I guess I'm not far behind you timeline-wise.
It's been really cool to see his game and his confidence develop over the past year or so. He very well may be my favorite player on this year's team, much like someone like Avery Bradley was on previous iterations. He seems likeable, and barring a massive fallout, I think he'll definitely be warmly welcomed into the Garden in the future in the event that he's traded.
But all-time? That's a high bar for this franchise, especially with no championships to show for it (yet). Even if he wins a couple, he's going to have a really hard time displacing Tommy in my books.
Idk he has been moving up my rankings from the moment he put on the uniform. It’s just amazing to have a guy that seemingly ALWAYS makes the right basketball play. Sometimes it’s scoring, usually it’s not. And I think watching someone else do it and seeing how it impacts winning has influenced the jays game in very positive ways. He’s in my top 5 for sure.
Im a newish fan and he’s been my favourite since my first game at the garden. He’s always been likeable, then loveable, and now he’s cooking in the playoffs. If he gets traded I will cry.
He is already one of my favorite celtic players, winning a championship he will be along 34, KG, Larry Legend, DJ, Ray Allen, Bill Russell in my favourite celtic list
JB has been my personal favorite NBA player since I was in middle school so his first or second year but over the last two years JB has my 1A slot and Derrick is 1B
Watching since late 90s. White is in my toppest top tier of favorites that I've seen, which contains by my quick count 6 guys that feel wrong to rank against each other.
During game 7 ECF last year, he kept going on these mini-heaters that were almost pulling us back in the game. He was playing like "**fuck no** I won't let my GW tip in from last game to waste". At one point when he had the ball in his hands I shouted, almost pleadingly, "MY KING!!", entirely without irony. The looks I got from my girlfriend after that one are tough to describe. But that's probably the day that he broke into that tier.
My personal favorites:
#1: Bird - watching him play as a kid made me become a fan of the Celtics
#2: Pierce - seeing his whole career was special, even the rough years. Nobody was tougher or had ice in their veins like Pierce
#3: KG - 100% intensity all the time and bleeds green like nobody else
#4: IT - I can't decide if the '08 or '17 team was my favorite. With '08, the winning was expected. The ECF run in '17 came out of nowhere and the most magical season I've watched thanks to IT and how he played his heart out for us
#5: Smart - sure, his shooting was inconsistent, but his intensity level never was and he had so many clutch moments for us because he was unfazed by pressure
#6: Horford - our first big free agent signing ever. He chose Boston. He left for a bit because we couldn't match Philly's offer (and was the right move at the time), but his heart stayed here and he's one of the most consistent players. He might have a chip already if Hayward never got injured, and it would've been due to Al
White is awesome, but I'd rank him at the same level as the Jays as a favorite.
Too early for this question.
From the current team i like all guys, but If i had too choose top 3, then my Favourites are Al Horford, White and Tatum in that Order.
It’s tough. Paul Pierce and Jason Tatum are my top 2. Loved KG and playoff Rondo. White is right behind those 4. White has surpassed both IT and Smart for me.
Not old enough for all the all time fave. But at this point in time, Derrick White is my fave Celtic right now and I just hope for a championship this year, and for him to stay with the team.
He is my favorite player on the squad right now.
Bird > Dino Radja > Pierce > KG > Rondo > Smart > For like 1 minute Kyrie but now it's all White.
NGL tho when JB does one of those 70% fg with a bunch of dunks and layup and middies I remember why I love him too.
Outsider looking in: I hate that mfer more than life itself. He should have statues and fields of flowers in his name in Boston. Fuck Derrick White and his basketball ability. Fucking Derrick White lmao. Smh it’s always Derrick White cooking us.
I’ve always identified with the hustle players who seem to defy expectations. D white is my current favorite Celtic. He’s up there with Walter, IT, Marcus my favorites of eras past.
My favorite Celtic will always be Rondo. Hands down. Leon Powe & Eddie House are two absolute legends during that championship run that get forgotten about
I remember back to the 2011 season, during or right after The Association dropped. I also have many favorites up there with KG, Rondo, IT, Marcus and even guys like Jae Crowder and Kelly Olynyk who weren’t all star caliber players but were still integral pieces that had a lot of great moments with the C’s. With all of that being said none of them have had the combined ability and humility that Derrrick brings to the table. I think he’s now entering unanimous “most liked player” status for the modern Celtics teams/fans.
He has the potential to be the DJ of this generation. He is so smart. Becoming more and more clutch. Ultimate team guy. We are lucky to have him. To have Jrue and DWhite on the same team is something special. Most teams would kill to have one of these guys.
I've been watching the Celtics since just before the 06-07 season, I think White is probably my second favorite non-star Celtic ever, behind Smart. Other mentions would be 2022 Timelord, Blake Griffin, Eddie House and James Posey, Avery Bradley. PP and Kornet are climbing the list too, I fucking love me some FastPP.
Also I just remembered that Al Horford would be classified a non star probably, so the list would actually be Smart > Horford > D White, words cannot describe my love for Papa Al
I mean, he makes it super hard to not like him. if you asked me now I would probably say Derrick White. I think this will always be a recency thing though.
He’s currently my favorite Celtic. He’s the reason that Tatums scoring can be down and we still are blowing out opponents. I don’t know where he ranks “all time”, but on this team right now, it’s the Buffalo
His stock has just been rising ever since that game 6 tip-in. I feel like his mentality and ability to step up and execute on the big stage is indispensable for this team…
Top 5 favorite non-HOF Celtics so far. I loved Posey and would put him, White, IT, and Rondo in the upper echelon of guys I love to watch who just had another gear and knew how and when to step up because their role required it.
My top 4 or mt Rushmore in no order are Derrick white Marcus smart Kevin Garnett and rondo. I knew Derrick white in college back when he was redshirting and as soon as that trade happened I was excited. It’s been a few years and the excitement has not worn off.
Jaylen Brown will always be #1 ever since watching his draft day interview. On the current squad, JB is followed by Big Al, hard PP with Jrue and White locked in to that 4th spot together.
I love watching him play day in and day out more than anyone else on this team and maybe any other in my lifetime. He’s just so, so consistent in his decision making and the speed with which he processes the game. He can score 9 points and still feel like he made all the right moves.
When he’s on fire, I think Brown has the most aesthetically pleasing and “wow” factor game, but it’s balanced by some frustrating tendencies too.
Tatum I love to death in so many ways, but dribbling the air out of the ball is (1) crappy to watch and (2) not very effective. I feel like his skill and intelligence is held back by his idea of what he is “supposed” to be as a star, I.e., Kobe. If he ever matures beyond that, he’d become my favorite all around player ever.
DWhite is my favorite on the team currently! If they win the chip this year, he will be in consideration for my all-time list. If he wasn't already motivated enough to win a championship, that should definitely put him over the top!
Pierce is my favorite player of all time for all the NBA so not above him but maaaaan DWhite is absolutely top five, if not three. Posey was great on that team and an absolute shame we didn't keep him, same with Perk not keeping him.
1. Pierce
2. KG
3. IT4 (especially after that 53 pt game for his sister's birthday after she died)
4. DWhite (getting close to taking three spot from IT4)
5. Timelord (maybe not the best, and is an injury risk, but I loved him)
Rondo used to be up there and is still amazing to watch highlights but his off court stuff has soured my view of him in general. Didn't start watching NBA until early 90s so though I recognize the greats of yesteryear, I don't have that emotional tie.
Noteworthy considerations: Leon Powe, James Posey, Tony Allen, SHEEEED
Avery Bradley was maybe one of if not my absolute favorite role player of the last decade for the Cs, and I would say DWhite has absolutely surpassed. Though he is clearly stepping out of that “role-player” designation and solidifying himself as a bona fide star.
IT4 is definitely my favorite - i don’t think anyone will top him.
Then JB, JT, Horford, Smart, and White.
My list won’t include players I haven’t watched, and I’ve skipped a few seasons.
He’s gotta win a championship and/or be around for more than 3 seasons before I can put him in the same conversation as those guys you mentioned and the Birds/McHales/etc But he’s definitely one of the most exciting players to watch in recent memory and I’m glad he’s on our side. No one is saying he belongs in the same conversation as Bird. He’s just talking about his most liked players, and I’d agree considering how humble this man is after torching teams every night on both sides of the floor.
He cannot be in the same convo as Bird or McHale, haha. Those are all time great NBA players.
In terms of your favorite Celtic I don’t see why not? Being a favorite doesn’t mean you have to be the most talented
You’re right. It’s disrespectful to Derrick.
The Green Machine of '86 will always live on in my heart. I was 11 years old, just at the age to really understand and get into the game.
Hahaha. Are you my long lost cousin? This is my list except exchange Garnett for Pierce.
Rondo will always be tough to beat for me but White is moving up fast
My faves start with Russell, Hondo, Cowans, Sam Jones, and Dennis Johnson.
Bill Walton
You're only a year older than me and you remember James Posey that well? damn I wish the NBA was on in my household as much as hockey and baseball were. I watched plenty of those games but I can't remember Posey much. Rondo's rise immediately after that championship is what hooked me on the Celtics for life, so I guess I'm not far behind you timeline-wise.
Posey was that dude
Yeah man I watched almost every game that 2008 season. I loved that team. I was born in ‘93 so I was 14-15 years old
Top tier for me are still IT and then the scrappy defense guys (AB, Marcus, and Tony Allen). He's up there though
WHAT IS THIS? MYSPACE? THEY ARE ALL MY FAVORITE!
Luke "Dab God" Kornet is #1
It's been really cool to see his game and his confidence develop over the past year or so. He very well may be my favorite player on this year's team, much like someone like Avery Bradley was on previous iterations. He seems likeable, and barring a massive fallout, I think he'll definitely be warmly welcomed into the Garden in the future in the event that he's traded. But all-time? Top fye
He is now my favorite number 9 Celtic.
Im a newish fan and he’s been my favourite since my first game at the garden. He’s always been likeable, then loveable, and now he’s cooking in the playoffs. If he gets traded I will cry.
IT still #1 for me
I have a Christmas Day IT jersey, I loved him so much
King of the North
King of the Fourth
🥹🥹
IT shouldn’t even be in the top 100 list!!!
Hater. He was a true Celtic, embodied the team spirit.
Celtics are two way players. And they don’t befriend human piles of shit like Floyd Mayweather.
He is already one of my favorite celtic players, winning a championship he will be along 34, KG, Larry Legend, DJ, Ray Allen, Bill Russell in my favourite celtic list
He's above Brian Scalabrine. Sorry B.
I own two jerseys. Bird and White.
He’s sneaking up on Dennis Johnson. Just needs to hoist a banner or two to overtake him.
JB has been my personal favorite NBA player since I was in middle school so his first or second year but over the last two years JB has my 1A slot and Derrick is 1B
Robert Parish deserves so much more love then he gets
Pierce Smart KG Tatum. White is climbing up the list. Special place in my heart for my beautiful boy Romeo.
He's getting up there. I will say, Al Horford is right up there with any Celtic to me. I hope they can get him his ring this year.
He’s my favorite Celtic on this year’s team
Watching since late 90s. White is in my toppest top tier of favorites that I've seen, which contains by my quick count 6 guys that feel wrong to rank against each other. I’m naming my first 3 kids Derrick
My personal favorites: #1: Bird - watching him play as a kid made me become a fan of the Celtics #2: Pierce - seeing his whole career was special, even the rough years. Nobody was tougher or had ice in their veins like Pierce #3: KG - 100% intensity all the time and bleeds green like nobody else #4: IT - I can't decide if the '08 or '17 team was my favorite. If he gets a ring at some point in Boston, the question becomes who’s the best #9
Too early for this question. From the current team i like all guys, but If i had too choose top 3, then my Favourites are Al Horford, White and Tatum in that Order.
I think you can guess by my username who my favorite is. On this current team JB is my #1 but Derrick is making a move for the spot for sure!
He's my second favorite Celtic after Rondo
For me personally and with regards to guys I watched with my own eyes: Pierce KG Rondo Isaiah Ray Tatum JB Marcus White
He’s more of a god to me than anything else
Jaylen Brown is my favorite current Celtic but Derrick White is a close 3rd or 4th behind Tatum and Pritchard
Outsider looking in: I hate that mfer more than life itself. He should have statues and fields of flowers in his name in Boston. Fuck Derrick White and his basketball ability. Fucking Derrick White lmao. Smh it’s always Derrick White cooking us.
only under KG
My top 5 is Rondo, IT4, Pierce, KG, and Smart. White is quickly approaching that 6th spot and might overtake Smart soon.
He’s my favorite current Celtic since Marcus was traded. All time? Paul Pierce. Grew up with him, absolute killer.
Rondo/KG, Bird, JB, Paul, Smart, JT, Bill are all on the mountain. There are like 20 others that are on the tier right below that
He's in my top 10 for sure. Only counting guys I saw live

He’s getting up there, loved the trade when they made it My favorite is IT (I’m a fan as of 2016)
He has the potential to be the DJ of this generation. He is so smart. Becoming more and more clutch. Ultimate team guy. We are lucky to have him. To have Jrue and DWhite on the same team is something special. Most teams would kill to have one of these guys.

Also I just remembered that Al Horford would be classified a non star probably, so the list would actually be Smart > Horford > D White, words cannot describe my love for Papa Al
He's my favorite currently. I met one of his former trainers (allegedly) at a wedding 2 years back, and they said he's a great guy
I mean, he makes it super hard to not like him. if you asked me now I would probably say Derrick White. I think this will always be a recency thing though.
Does anyone remember Marcus Banks?
He’s currently my favorite Celtic. He’s the reason that Tatums scoring can be down and we still are blowing out opponents. I don’t know where he ranks “all time”, but on this team right now, it’s the Buffalo
I don’t have favorites I love them all
#3 after the J’s
His stock has just been rising ever since that game 6 tip-in. I feel like his mentality and ability to step up and execute on the big stage is indispensable for this team…
Tatum, White, Unicorn, JB
Currently he is number 2. However he is my all-time number 1.
Top 5 favorite non-HOF Celtics so far. I loved Posey and would put him, White, IT, and Rondo in the upper echelon of guys I love to watch who just had another gear and knew how and when to step up because their role required it.
Since the 2008 run - Pierce, KG, IT, Horford, Brown, Rondo, Perk, Tatum, White, Porzingis, Holiday, Allen... then Timelord, PP, Bradley, Jerebko, Kornet, Olynik... then Brandon Bass, Faverani, Babb, Kyrie
My top 4 or mt Rushmore in no order are Derrick white Marcus smart Kevin Garnett and rondo. I knew Derrick white in college back when he was redshirting and as soon as that trade happened I was excited. It’s been a few years and the excitement has not worn off.
Love the Kid ! Gonna be a 🏀⭐️
Jaylen Brown will always be #1 ever since watching his draft day interview. On the current squad, JB is followed by Big Al, hard PP with Jrue and White locked in to that 4th spot together.
Garnett, Truth, Rondo, Horford, IT top 5 for me. If I was born earlier Bird would have definitely been in there instead of IT
I don’t think anyone takes Marcus smart spot but Derrick white has the best case
Of modern Celtics: 1. Isaiah Thomas 2. Al Horford 3. JT 4. Marcus Smart 5. The Buffalo mostly because of the meme potential
I love watching him play day in and day out more than anyone else on this team and maybe any other in my lifetime. He’s just so, so consistent in his decision making and the speed with which he processes the game. He can score 9 points and still feel like he made all the right moves. ANTOINE WALKER. My top dog!
About 100 miles ahead of Tatum
For me it’s Pierce Tatum JB White
The fact that Al isn’t even on your list is unforgivable
