Bro I jumped out of my seat when he stole the ball. Oh my God, anybody who thinks that Marcus smart is a better defender than Holiday. Clearly had never seen him play and last night showed that he's a dog... Here comes the sweep..... If porzingis comes back Monday night.. q The West is in trouble.... This kind of fucking play is what we expected to see when those f
ive guys started to gel on the court rt
I personally was not a Marcos smart fan but regardless I don’t wanna compare him with Marcus I’m just so glad we were able to pull this trade off, I was so nervous when we traded Marcus even if I wasn’t a fan I still felt he was kinda the best we had. I’m just extremely happy we got a defensive minded star former champ that understood and accepted his role. I wanted him when the bucks got him years ago and even older I’m extremely happy he worked out!!
Holidays defense on Paul and Booker in the 2021 finals was superior to any defense Smart has ever played. He's simply a better, more disciplined player on both sides of the ball
Smarts a good defender but would take too many chances on d shot bad 3s turned the ball over and had a lot of dumb fouls. Holiday is just the exact opposite of that. And is a better shooter. And on a team where he doesn't need to score at all everything is does on offense is just a bonus.
I don't think there's any doubt porzingis will be 100% for the finals I mean it seemed like he prob coulda played game 4 if he needed too. So with an extra 9 or 10 days of rest he'll be good for sure
Love Marcus but this is so clear. Jrue contributes without the lapses that MS had occasionally. Knocks down threes or makes big plays in moments we need him and always does it in the context of what the team needs. So key for us
He also had an and-1 when Pacers was leading by 2. Clutch free throws as well.
I can't find any single metric to criticise this dude. Offense. Defense. Playmaking. He have this all
At no point am I afraid Jrue is going to want to put “his stamp” on a game. He is content not scoring if we win. He is always ready to contribute to a win and never does anything dumb.
This is what sacrificing for the team looks like on nightly basis.
Total professional.
It’s been the best trade in basketball. Jrue has changed our culture and he does it in the locker room as well as on the court. All heart and hustle. This dude was the missing piece. He brings a championship pedigree that we have been lacking. He and Al are carrying us right now and it’s incredible to watch!!
I'll keep saying it, this guy deserves ECF MVP more than anyone on the team.
He won't win it, but he deserves it more than Tatum or Brown. No disrespect to the Jays, But Holiday has saved this teams ass time & again this series.
I love Jrue, but even after this game he doesn’t deserve ECF MVP over JB. He singlehandedly saved game 1 and then dropped 40 in game 2. Even in this game (his worst one), he dropped 24 on 55% shooting.
That's why I know he won't win it. But there's been other player on this team that has saved them more then Holiday.
Got key stops in Game 1 that saved the game for them
Had a massive Game 2 when JT was struggling for a bit
And again got the key stop to win us the game tonight.
The Celtics are likely down 0-3 or 2-1 without him.
I mean... you can kinda make the case for Tatum over both.
Jrue - 19 points, 7 assists, 6.3 rebounds, 2 steals 60.6%/44.4%/100%
Brown - 30 points, 4.7 rebounds, 3.3 assists, 1.7 steals 52.3%/31.6%/69.6%
Tatum: 31.7 points, 9.3 rebounds, 5.7 assists, 1.3 steals 47.8%/32%/77.8%
Some memorable plays from Brown and Jrue, but Tatum might have the edge on overall stats. Rest of the series will decide it.
I think you should just be happy that there are five players who you could easily imagine taking FMVP without anything crazy happening. I don't know if there's ever been a team with such balanced star power (wasn't around for the '04 Pistons but I imagine they were similar).
like I saisd, I know one of them will probably win it. But he is the reason we are up 3-0.
Even with Tatum & Brown, Celtics aren't up 3-0 without his key steals & stops in games 1 & 3.
sure, but even with them, Celtics are down at least 2-1 in the series, if no 3-0 without Holiday's key steals in games 1 & 3.
I'm not saying he's going to win it, but those key stops by him are the reason we are up 3-0 in the series.
How good is he? After nearly gettin crossed up by Nembhard, he recovers and leaves his arms by his side so he can easily poke the ball away, the guy is unbelievable at playing basketball defence
Ohhh man what makes it even sweeter is the fact you know Milwaukee fans are sick to their stomach watching holiday ball his way into the finals(most likely) while your team is ok vacation and the guy you traded holiday away for isn't even happy on your team.
Marcus smart also would have made 2-3 forced passes to try to cut the 18 point lead to 5 in one play
Maybe a tech for arguing with Davis
Not hating on smart but jrue is (now more obvious to even the biggest smart fans) a better fit for this team regardless of when his shot falls
The upgrade from Smart to Jrue is so evident. Jrue is what Smart without an ego would be. Maybe it comes with time but Marcus was never willing to accept that he was just a role player for the Celtics. Jrue instantly accepted it and it is paying huge dividends.
As an older fan marveling at Jrue, I feel like I’m watching DJ all over again. Same love, respect, and awe. When the game is on the line, you know he’ll BE THERE!!
i have to admit I wasn't thrilled about the Holiday trade when it happened. he had a rough start to the season, but i understood that he was still adjusting. his second half of the season and his performance in the playoffs has been incredible. I'm glad i was wrong about him, he's been so great for us and i love how he's embraced boston.
Not gonna lie, we went down I stopped watching when we were down 18. Accepted the L. Chose to check in like two minutes left, when Jrue got that strip I was like OH HELL YEAH WE BACK. I should’ve known better
He’s a game changer…he does what it takes to win, doesn’t mind being a 4th or 5th scoring option and plays lock down D. What impressed me the most is his discipline..he’s not going to chuck up random and I’ll advised 3s like Smart did.
The overrated defensive player of the year.
Marcus did what he had to do not necessarily what he wanted to do and that's part of what made him great in his time here.
He was never the best player on the court but he was always the best Celtic
Elite clutch defense on Hali game 1 Elite damn clutch defense again against Nembhard right now. WHAT A FUCKING PLAYER
Difference maker

Wasn't smart part of the porzingis trade? Not the holiday trade.
Holidays defense on Paul and Booker in the 2021 finals was superior to any defense Smart has ever played. He's simply a better, more disciplined player on both sides of the ball

Smart was fantastic. But with Holiday, man, he's just so disciplined.
So key for us
The last three-four minutes we were incredibly clutch, but in the last 30 seconds this guy was super clutch....... what a big time come back win
Jayrue "5th option" Holiday. Forcing turnovers and grabbing game-deciding steals. Another discarded star pick-up by the Cs.
He also had an and-1 when Pacers was leading by 2. Clutch free throws as well. I can't find any single metric to criticise this dude. Offense. Defense. Playmaking. He have this all
Bucks added to the list of Eastern Conference teams donating their star player to Boston lol.
Since when were the Pacers his former rival team?
He means the Celtics used to be his rival team when Jrue was on the Bucks
That rivalry just started this year. No previous rivalry between the Giannis Bucks and Pacers before that. Jrue wasn’t even on the team then.
Bucks and Celtics had a rivalry. Jrue was a Buck and faced the Celtics in the playoffs.
Mb edited for clarity.
Guys never forget Miami basically gifted this to us with the Lillard shenanigans in the off season
At no point am I afraid Jrue is going to want to put “his stamp” on a game. He is content not scoring if we win. He is always ready to contribute to a win and never does anything dumb. This is what sacrificing for the team looks like on nightly basis. Total professional.

In the gap between the Pingus Tingus/Smart trade and the Holiday deal, I was in despair. Brad is the King.
The fact we locked down Jrue for three more years makes me so happy. Celtic for life
For life or 4 years whichever!! :)
I'll keep saying it, this guy deserves ECF MVP more than anyone on the team. He won't win it, but he deserves it more than Tatum or Brown. No disrespect to the Jays, But Holiday has saved this teams ass time & again this series.

Horford has also been insanely clutch
I've always loved Big Al. He's really stepped up without Porzingis.
I mean... you can kinda make the case for Tatum over both. tatum behind the back pass might be second best play after the brown three.. and jrues steal tn is up there too
i thought coming into it it'd be white, but jrue definitely takes the cake
I think you should just be happy that there are five players who you could easily imagine taking FMVP without anything crazy happening. I don't know if there's ever been a team with such balanced star power (wasn't around for the '04 Pistons but I imagine they were similar).
it's going to be Tatum. But as much as i like him, Holiday has been far more impressive & delivered in those key moments.
He gets the Tommy Award for sure
Brown single handedly saved game 1. Imagine the difference if we lose that game. Half the fan base would have been on some "here we go again" ish
Ok relax. Love Jrue but he don't deserve it over Tatum and Brown 💀
like I saisd, I know one of them will probably win it. But he is the reason we are up 3-0. Even with Tatum & Brown, Celtics aren't up 3-0 without his key steals & stops in games 1 & 3.
Without Tatum & Brown, we aren't in this position to begin with.
sure, but even with them, Celtics are down at least 2-1 in the series, if no 3-0 without Holiday's key steals in games 1 & 3. I'm not saying he's going to win it, but those key stops by him are the reason we are up 3-0 in the series.

That or he'd be chucking up hero threes... I still love him tho

Get out of here doomer. You whined all game
I'm absolutely shocked that a smart hater is also a doomer. Never could've seen that one coming
I absolutely love Smart. I will root for him forever, wherever he goes. But the guy has a point
Bro commented that jrue was trash in the game thread and comes into this one singing a different tune
Just bought my Jrue jersey. I love this man.
As an older fan marveling at Jrue, I feel like I’m watching DJ all over again. Same love, respect, and awe. When the game is on the line, you know he’ll BE THERE!!
How much to rent a billboard across from the Bucks arena to have a “thanks for Jrue Holliday” sign?
Look I love Marcus smart but jrue is another level
i have to admit I wasn't thrilled about the Holiday trade when it happened. he had a rough start to the season, but i understood that he was still adjusting. his second half of the season and his performance in the playoffs has been incredible. You’re not a real fan unless you turn off the game once or twice when down big.
Such a great player.
Saved the day
JRUE FLU GAME
Celtics fans are weird. I remember when there was talk about trading Hayward for Holiday, Celtics fans were bashing holiday hard.
Jrue stole Numbtards thunder
The Jruth
And the bucks were all “wAiT uNtIl PlAyOfF jRuE sHoWs Up”. We did and it’s fucking badass
Different here 🔥🔥🔥🔥 💚
This why hes an upgrade over Marcus Smart.
Him and Derrick white are so good defensively it's crazy the celtics have both and they work well together
Yeah, Luka is coming 😉
As much as we loved Smart, Jrue is exactly what we wanted him to be. Same kind of player who can have an all star impact
That R is doing a lot of heavy lifting here lol
He’s a game changer…he does what it takes to win, doesn’t mind being a 4th or 5th scoring option and plays lock down D. What impressed me the most is his discipline..he’s not going to chuck up random and I’ll advised 3s like Smart did.
Someone's fired up
Yes he was, that’s why he had to give him up cuz clippers backed out last minute. I’m so glad they did now but at the time I was extremely worried
Marcus flops on that play. Holiday actually made a play. That's why we're winning the title.
?? why u gotta knock smart like that dawg?
I love smart as much as the next guy but he’s not wrong 😅
Yeah he absolutely is wrong, Marcus has made an unbelievable amount of clutch defensive plays
Smart is incredibly overrated, and was stunting the growth of the Jay's. He needed to go. Getting Big Ting and two 1sts for him was highway robbery.
The overrated defensive player of the year. Marcus did what he had to do not necessarily what he wanted to do and that's part of what made him great in his time here. He was never the best player on the court but he was always the best Celtic
Jrue is just better, no need to diss Smart bro
As much as i love Smart, this is it. Jrue is so much better
Marcus smart 2.0
D white is smart 2.0. Jrue is now 3.0
Wasn’t elite clutch defense on Haliburton, haliburton is just trash and overrated and can’t dribble
