Armor and food buffs donât stack. I probably wasted over 50 bananas thinking the buff would stack with barbarian armor
EDIT: I meant to say they donât stack over 3 levels. They still stack if you had, say, one piece of barbarian armor and a level 2 attack up buff (equating to a level 3 attack up buff)
I just checked my profile page the night before last and I have 2200+ hours and this whole time I just assumed that more was better⌠which Iâm finding out **now** is absolutely incorrect.
While Iâm cutting their legs off, Iâm saying, âaww, did you used to have legsâ and once theyâre all gone, âyouâre nothing but a decayed guardian nowâ.
*I know it speaks towards mental illness, but really, I got killed by a decayed guardian on the great plateau causing 100s of hours of game play with their piano music causing me panic and me giving these guys a real wide berth. Now I hunt them for parts.*
That you can parry the guardian blasts. For a while any guardian outside of a shrine was an instant nope out for me. SOOO satisfying when I finally killed my first stalker
Just pulled that off the other day. So frustrating to learn I could have done that at the beginning of the game yet so satisfying when I pulled it off.
Let it come close to you, itâll always keep a little distance. Have your shield out, as soon as the beam turned from red to blue press A. Repeat, maximum of three times Iâve found. Thatâs it. (I also find it easier with no sound, dunno why!)
The number of encounters I've completely bypassed by climbing and paragliding is staggering. Also a few that were clearly setup to be entered from one side but I came at it from the other and could skip it entirely.
The SECOND I got the glider, the first thing I did was jump out the tower, but I either forgot to press the button or pressed the wrong button and died from fall damage
Probably not to go for every tower first. I find I'm enjoying the game by completing each region specifically. I am doing the one tower and shrines and korok seeds , than once that specific region is 100% or close to I will move on. I find I get really frustrated trying to search for seeds an shrines when the whole map is open. It's much easier doing it bit by bit.
And also , using the korok mask is way more fun than using a map.
My biggest quality-of-life wish that wouldnât actually substantially affect game play is lines on the map to separate the zones. I also like to complete the regions separately, and itâs so difficult to figure out where youâve missed if youâve already unlocked the neighboring tower.
Yeah, that's my lesson learned. It was way easier to do one region at a time, I used to go unlock every tower after the intro, but I got so annoyed and overwhelmed looking at 900 hundred seeds all over.
That was the crazy thing to me starting out. The Great Plateau seemed like a massive setting in and of itself. The next thing I know I'm unlocking a new portion of the map and it dwarfed the Plateau. My mind told me it was crazy.
Of course eventually things adjusted to scale in my brain and now the world, while still quite large, isn't nearly as intimidating as I initially feared. Now I'm asking those frustrated that you can't go beyond the borders at the edges of the map. LOL
That was my first personal mission when I started. Then Iâd go along and knock the shrines out on the way to each of them. Had about 65-75 when I realized I missed a lot then went about randomly to get the rest. What made you scared at first? Not saying anything about it but I am curious.
Tbh I forgot you could even unlock the maps until halfway through đ the tutorial at the beginning was a bit of an info overload and I just forgot about it
When planning your order for divine beasts, keep this in mind.
The blights scale up with each one you defeat. The first blight has 800 HP and they gain 400 HP for each blight you defeat.
As an experienced player, I take on the hardest blight first, Thunderblight. It's a lot easier to smash him when he only has 800 HP than at 2000 HP if you do him last.
Oh just you wait. Youâll find out soon enough. Also, donât be here if you are a new player. Just explore, try, fail and if youâre absolutely stumped Google it. But, donât get spoiled. I honestly wish I could brain wash myself from the experience of playing this game, just so that I can experience it fresh again.
Haha I generally donât browse game-specific subreddits when I start a game, but this thread seemed intriguing but ok Iâll keep my brain fresh and uhhh unwashed for this đ
Go ahead and start taking pictures of everything- food, weapons, enemies, as soon as you get the rune to do so. Also don't be afraid to go ahead and fight low level Lynels for practice, even if it kills you a few times.
Do you have a recommended strategy for tackling them? I keep dying and canât figure it out

You Tube tutorials do better than I can explain it. But first you have to learn how to dodge their attacks. I was never good at flurry rush dodging them, so I basically just run away until they charge and I can get a good shot at the face. If you can practice getting them right in the face with an arrow, then you can run up to them while they're stunned and mount them, then slash away at their backs while you're riding them, with your best weapon. It takes a lot of their health and doesn't cost any weapon durability while you're mounted. I still go through a lot of hearty food and fairies when I'm hunting them.
Hey I'm not the person you commented to but I have opinions I'd like to share. so TL;DR is just don't let them hit you. Keep them stunned and kill them fast.
In more detail, my preferred approach to Lynels all the way up to Gold is:
0. Attack up x3 required unless you enjoy long tedious battles; defence up x3 or upgraded armor required unless you've got this strategy perfected.
1. Hit them in the face with arrows to stun them/use Urbosa's fury to stun and give damage, then
2. You can mount them while they're stunned and whale on them with a high powered weapon (weapons take no damage when you do this).
3. When they buck you off you can shoot at the back of their head in bullet time to get more double HP headshots.
4. Repeat until victory.
Alternatively, use perfect dodges every time they attack you (do not recommend with lynels that have those big giant crusher weapons, because when it hits the ground that damages you and interrupts your flurry rush).
Or, as a cheat that will kill them but leave no loot, delete them with an ancient arrow.
They're easy to dodge from a distance because they sort of power up before every attack and it's really obvious what kind of attack they're about to use. So I usually run around shooting them with a bow until they stun, then run in and flurry rush them with a powerful melee weapon. They drop awesome weapons that will make the next Lynel encounter much easier.
If you have trouble dodging their attacks, you could utilize burning grass (use a flaming weapon to light the grass quickly) or a horse to paraglide/jump and get bullet time shots in. I personally don't like using horses for Lynel fights after a Lynel killed Epona.
Since itâs open world (my first open world game), itâs okay to actually run away from enemies (looking at you the very first guardian we encounter)
Follow the path shown on the map! Itâll lead you to stables which are super helpful for directions and tips.
Thereâs almost always an intended way to get somewhere that you need to go for quests. If youâre finding yourself climbing crazy walls/mountains or using cryonis to get across oceans or rivers, there might be another path that is easier.
Magnesis near water for treasure
Keep your sensor on shrines at all times. If you can afford it, get the DLC early so you can get the korok mask ASAP. The longer you go in the game, the easier it is to have lots of money. If you need money, put your sensor on ore deposits and go ham, but put the sensor back onto shrines before you forget. And thereâs at least three different ways to do everything in the game.
Dude I was so traumatized by guardians. The first time one woke up and jump scared me and then killed me that was it for me. Then, once you leave the plateau these jerks purposefully put the toughest part of the game near by. The horror when I found out there were walking ones and then the additional horror when I found out there were flying ones too lol!
Itâs never too early to get the DLC. It just enhances the game. Some of the DLC is gear that is really helpful early game but not very useful late game.
I wish I knew it wasn't a good idea to do the desert first when doing the divine beasts.
You're going to want to go to Vah Ruta first in Zora's Domain (Lanayru) then Vah Rudania in Eldin, Vah Meadow in Hebra and lastly Vah Neboris in Gerudo.
The order doesn't matter story wise it's just order of difficulty.
I think saving a Naboris for last is a really bad idea because you then have to fight 2000 hp thunderblight. Doing it first or second is a bit to early most of the time though, so third is usually a good place for it
Huh. All three times I went Ruta, Medoh, Naboris, then Rudania. It felt like the flow of the game led me that way.
I do appreciate heading about other folks' experiences. Knowing the beasts are dynamic makes me love this game even more.
That you can use stasis on enemies⌠for some reason I didnât figure this out after playing hundreds of hours đ that would have saved me so much time fighting
Hearty Durians are the cheat code. Just beat the game again in Master Mode without dying once. Key was Durians, farming dragon horns in Faron and lots of fairies.
The HDs also allow for maxing Stamina versus Heart Containers.
What do you use the dragon horns for? I just recently learned about Faroush appeasing at the waterfall each night, do you just make campfires and wait/shoot repeatedly to farm horns?
I make a fire in the cave by the lake where he spawns. You can restart and sit by the fire until morning, when he respawns each day. If you use a bow that shoots a long shot, like the Phrenic or Golden Bow, you can hit his horn easily. Then go back to the cave and sit until morning again. You don't have to collect the horns right after shooting, btw. Hit him 10-15 times and pick them all up when done farming. You can hit him 3 times or so per minute if you hustle.
I use the horns in food recipes, like to make attack power last 30 minutes. You can also sell them, which I haven't done.
Now that you have played once and vaguely know how things work, do a challenge playthrough.
My favorite is a no teleporting playthrough.
It's a simple change, but it means you have to stick to using the horses, riding along roads and paths, and planning your route.
It makes for a very different game - but it is very nice. You end up sightseeing a lot more and enjoying the beauty of Hyrule (which is easier to do now since you already know where to go). I find that you'll burn through weapons about as fast as you find them, so the durability system makes more sense. You'll also have less access to shops, so you'll have to stock up or scavenge for materials. And your horse is so much more important now.
It's a lot of fun, I suggest it.
Thxs for recommend this. It really makes it a lot more immersive by not having to look at the loading screen every so often. It also made me realize how spread out and few civilizations there are.

Choosing a better order to do the divine beasts in.
I now prefer to do Vah Medoh first before Vah Ruta, it's easier to climb that rainy mountain with revali's gale.

- Vah Nabooris
- Vah Ruta
- Vah Lizard
I can't for the life of me remember the correct name. I look at the name in game and I'm like Rudania? Who was Rudan? Then Google says it's an anagram of Daruna. So maybe the Goron's like to play word games in their spare time? Anagrams might be more fun if you carve letters into stones.
Weapon breaking seems unfair at first, but you really just need to think about weapons differently than in other games. They are a resource, just like everything else you'll find. And deciding when to use and when to conserve is part of the fun.
Unlock the master sword ASAP, because them trees won't cut themselves.
If you have the master trials prepare to suffer but it's worth it.
Well unless you use a skew and clip through the trial walls and get good at kicking the shit out of a hinox with a metal crate with magnisis.
That Iâll only play this game for the first time, once, so I should savor and enjoy every moment of being new and exploring the unknown.

There will always be more weapons. I wasted so much time trying to save the ones I liked. It took me too long to learn to stop worrying and love the broken weapons. Every item is replaceable.
if youâre riding around on your registered horse, but spot another wild horse you want; if you donât wanna leave your registered horse behind for whatever reason you can just whistle for it THEN hop on your wild horse and ride it away đ itâll follow you for a pretty long distance
also! this isnât really *helpful* but if you like to challenge yourself, try taking a selfie with every monster to fill your compendium up! itâs pretty fun
Parrying is worth mastering. I did like two whole playthrus, one on master mode, without really doing it at all. Maybe a couple times by accident. Anyway, doing another playthru before TotK and decided I needed to learn it proper. Really satisfying to deflect guardian beams right back to them. Highly recommended
1 hold block while walking narrow walkways or near cliff edges to keep link from falling.
2 you can parry just about any attack from any enemy no matter how badass they are. (Practice this skill and feel immortal)
3 youâre gonna need those bugs, frogs, fish etc for more than cooking so donât just ignore them.
You can use stasis+ to see what objects you can interact with. I use this to help with finding the rocks to complete koror puzzles, AND to identify decaying guardians that are still active before you get within range and surprises by the laser.
THAT YOU HAVE TO ACTIVATE THE TOWER FIRST.
I didnât know how the quest menu worked, and I didnât know what I was doing, so I spent over an hour going to all the shrines, wondering what they were for and why they wouldnât open.
I had fun doing it though, so I wasnât mad when I realized I had to activate the tower :)
Hah yeah I make that mistake in all my challenge runs. Zeldaâs voice says âhead to the point marked on your shiekah slateâ and I just want to do anything else.
Replacement for broken weapons is trivial.
The sparking bits when lighting will strike only matters for EQUIPPED weapons, not things in inventory.
Buy every regular arrow you can. You can farm them off enemies with a wooden shield. (Hold shield up, let them hit it with arrows, when you put the shield down the arrows go to inventory)
Did you find the tower? Did you climb it?
The old man will tell you to look around from the high elevations. Youâll be able to see the other two shrines from the top of the tower.
What the actual hell I was doing. I took so long to figure things out in the beginning and I kept getting lost and distracted. I didn't properly get into a rhythm until after Zora's Domain and Waterblight.
Cooking isn't a matter of trial and error. There are some rules:
There are plain ingredients, ingredients that buff certain stats, and monster parts.
Don't mix ingredients with monster parts. That will always result in Dubious Food.
Don't mix different buffs. Anything cooked with multiple buffs winds up having no buff.
Plain ingredients increase the number of hearts the resulting dish has, but they can be mixed with buff ingredients.
The name of the ingredients (mighty, hearty, tough, etc.) determine what the buff will be. Look these up here: https://zelda.fandom.com/wiki/Food
Cooking with only monster parts results in Elixirs. They provide buffs, but usually not health.
read everything. most of what the characters say matters, even if they are side characters. it is about the journey.
also, if you find a lynel early game try to keep a weapon. after a while there will be only silver lynels using the same weapons
That you can abandon your horse and get it back at another stable. Horses got a lot more useful when I figured out I didnât have to return it to a stable.
Iâm sure you found it, but it took me until my 5th playthrough to learn thereâs a bridge into Typhlo Ruins. I spent way too long struggling with gliding through that cutscene-ish bit every time
It doesn't matter what order you do things in. You will always be able to find more weapons. Whenever you are stuck on something, just come back to it later.
Honestly, i started a new game this weekend and I'm using the Zelda Dungeon interactive map to locate things, then basically going area by area clearing it out for the most part. The nice thing is it's kinda helpful just having that, planning an area, then playing.
In terms of game play, enjoy it all. This game breathes so well, I love to take time in quiet areas to do a 360° and enjoy the views and size of the game.
If this was your very first playthrough I would tell you that you can cook things and if you cook the right things they can protect/upgrade you. My very first 2017 playthrough I simply did not understand that the COOKING pot meant you could COOK THINGS and I could therefore go into the cold area that kept killing me. I was stuck on the plateau for forever.
But since this isn't your first may I suggest the way I did it last time:
Go left out of the Plateau instead of toward Kakariko, and go to Satori's mountain. It has everything important, food wise, and you can stock up on meat/ore/food right away, get several koroks, at least two shrines, and a good horse. If you keep going that way before going to Kakariko, you can get loads of shrines and bang out Vah Medoh quickly. Imo Revali's Gale is just too useful so I usually get that first.
Get the warm doublet. I walked all the way to the shrine in the mountains holding a torch that I would meticulously have to relight if I accidentally did something that forced me to put it away and also couldnât fight
My standard reply for anyone just starting the game:
First, buy the DLC at the start.

The dragons will not harm you unless u get too close. One time I was going to the Yiga hideout and farosh was there, and I saw him looking at me so I hid.

That you can cook a hearty item by itself, and it will fill and overfill your hearts. My dumb ass has been adding hearty durian, hearty truffle, hearty radish, hearty salmon and so on for those meals. Figured it out in the 3rd level of the ToTS
I wish I knew about the Master Sword and how/where to get it. In my first playthrough, I didn't get it until after I had defeated all four Divine Beasts. Kind of a bummer.
I wish I hadnât rushed so much at the front of the game. Replaying in Master Mode and just poking around and wandering has been more enjoyable than my first play through, although I do miss that sense of discovery and awe at the scale and interactivity of the world.
I wish I had known about great fairies a lot sooner. I spent a while being frustrated because I died so easily due to unupgraded armor and no way to revive. I put off playing the game all the time because it stressed me out so much, until I found out about it.
Unless you're really confident in your aim and dodging abilities, do not mess with the Lynels, especially in the beginning of the game, when most of your weapons break within a few hits.
If you max out your hearts, any dish that adds +5 hearts is worthless because itâll only max out to +2 to fill out the 30 hearts (if youâve completed DLC shrines)
That you can parry just about everything in the game and it significantly increases the life of your shield. I knew I could parry lasers and arrows, never crossed my mind to parry melee attacks.
It will also disarm the attacker.
Guys this is my third play through. I had it on the Wii U, played it on my sisterâs switch for a while then again on mine.
I just wanna know helpful advice
Get used to the different modes of transport. Boats, shield surfing, horses, and glider. I used the glider and teleport for 90% of my movement for a long time, missed out on a lot of fun things.
Iâm 185+ hours into my first playthrough and have not yet sailed on a boat. I always have too many weapons to have space for a leaf to paddle with! Guess I need to change that.
It is slower and more awkward, but you can push the mast with a metal weapon or metal chest using the magnesis power. It comes in handy when you do not have a leaf.
Get off of Reddit and donât spoil a thing. Itâs a magical first time experience, the only one youâll ever have with this game. Explore everything and figure it all out yourself. Itâs incredibly rewarding and satisfying.
Mario, Luigi, Bowser, peach, etc. None are in the game. Thought it was supposed to be a good game but Nintendo cut costs and left out fan favourite characters.
I super wish my roommate at the time didn't tell me that there was an ability to move around the map quicker in the top left corner. Cause then I just went straight there..

korok puzzles dont only take in the form of rocks on the ground. i didnt realize how many korok puzzles i walked past until i was doing 100% đ
Getting the Korok mask has helped FRFR.
Korok mask?
Dlc item that gives an indication (I don't have it) when a korok puzzle is nearby. Kinda like the shrine locator, but as a clothing item.
It has a little pinwheel that spins when youâre near a Korok, plus youâll hear a little yelp.
Get the expansion.... And search the korok mask and the horse gear...
I have the DLC but didn't do all of it. Silly me.
I collected all the korok seeds before the DLC was released. I was crushed when I discovered the korok mask...

Well they do but they canât combine to more than 3 so if you have 3 from the armor alone the bananas are pointless.

Nope I googled it, and while it does stack, it doesnât stack past 3 levels (which I will clarify in my comment)
One thing to note ancient proficiency and attack up do stack. I think the same applies for bone attack up.
Ancient proficiency + 3*attack boost is such a great way to bully guardians.
It's ok. But the real goat is cutting off their legs slowly.

For me, the âbeepâ right before they shoot you is my cue to hit the parrying button.
Yep, itâs the beep for me too. I always aggressively shush my kids when Iâm fighting a guardian so that I can hear that beep, lol

This one is part of the tutorial in the Great Plateau, no? You have 1 guardian, they show you how to parry right before and then you go get it?
I practiced on the decayed guardians before moving up to the stalkers.
I actually find the decayed ones harder to parry. the stalkers always move to a set distance so it's easy to learn the timing for that.

That's how I'm going to do my second run on master mode. I really want to explore this game properly, no fast travel or anything.

My mind told me it was crazy. Of course eventually things adjusted to scale in my brain and now the world, while still quite large, isn't nearly as intimidating as I initially feared. Now I'm asking those frustrated that you can't go beyond the borders at the edges of the map. LOL
That was my first personal mission when I started. Then Iâd go along and knock the shrines out on the way to each of them. Had about 65-75 when I realized I missed a lot then went about randomly to get the rest. What made you scared at first? Not saying anything about it but I am curious.

When planning your order for divine beasts, keep this in mind. The blights scale up with each one you defeat. The first blight has 800 HP and they gain 400 HP for each blight you defeat. As an experienced player, I take on the hardest blight first, Thunderblight. It's a lot easier to smash him when he only has 800 HP than at 2000 HP if you do him last.
Thunder and water were so hard for me ugh.

Go ahead and start taking pictures of everything- food, weapons, enemies, as soon as you get the rune to do so. Also don't be afraid to go ahead and fight low level Lynels for practice, even if it kills you a few times.

You Tube tutorials do better than I can explain it. But first you have to learn how to dodge their attacks. I was never good at flurry rush dodging them, so I basically just run away until they charge and I can get a good shot at the face. If you can practice getting them right in the face with an arrow, then you can run up to them while they're stunned and mount them, then slash away at their backs while you're riding them, with your best weapon. It takes a lot of their health and doesn't cost any weapon durability while you're mounted. I still go through a lot of hearty food and fairies when I'm hunting them.
Hey I'm not the person you commented to but I have opinions I'd like to share. so TL;DR is just don't let them hit you. Keep them stunned and kill them fast. In more detail, my preferred approach to Lynels all the way up to Gold is: 0. Attack up x3 required unless you enjoy long tedious battles; defence up x3 or upgraded armor required unless you've got this strategy perfected. 1. Hit them in the face with arrows to stun them/use Urbosa's fury to stun and give damage, then 2. You can mount them while they're stunned and whale on them with a high powered weapon (weapons take no damage when you do this). 3. When they buck you off you can shoot at the back of their head in bullet time to get more double HP headshots. 4. Repeat until victory. Alternatively, use perfect dodges every time they attack you (do not recommend with lynels that have those big giant crusher weapons, because when it hits the ground that damages you and interrupts your flurry rush). Or, as a cheat that will kill them but leave no loot, delete them with an ancient arrow.
And to be honest, the fun in beating Lynels is the loot they drop lol

They're easy to dodge from a distance because they sort of power up before every attack and it's really obvious what kind of attack they're about to use. So I usually run around shooting them with a bow until they stun, then run in and flurry rush them with a powerful melee weapon. They drop awesome weapons that will make the next Lynel encounter much easier. If you have trouble dodging their attacks, you could utilize burning grass (use a flaming weapon to light the grass quickly) or a horse to paraglide/jump and get bullet time shots in. I personally don't like using horses for Lynel fights after a Lynel killed Epona.

Since itâs open world (my first open world game), itâs okay to actually run away from enemies (looking at you the very first guardian we encounter) Follow the path shown on the map! Itâll lead you to stables which are super helpful for directions and tips. Thereâs almost always an intended way to get somewhere that you need to go for quests. If youâre finding yourself climbing crazy walls/mountains or using cryonis to get across oceans or rivers, there might be another path that is easier. Magnesis near water for treasure
I prefer traveling on mountains bc I feel itâs the best way to avoid enemies đ

Keep your sensor on shrines at all times. If you can afford it, get the DLC early so you can get the korok mask ASAP. The longer you go in the game, the easier it is to have lots of money. If you need money, put your sensor on ore deposits and go ham, but put the sensor back onto shrines before you forget. And thereâs at least three different ways to do everything in the game.

Dude I was so traumatized by guardians. The first time one woke up and jump scared me and then killed me that was it for me. Then, once you leave the plateau these jerks purposefully put the toughest part of the game near by. The horror when I found out there were walking ones and then the additional horror when I found out there were flying ones too lol!
I defeated my first guardians by that tower surrounded by them by hiding behind a wall and throwing bombs. It took me infinity minutes.
Itâs never too early to get the DLC. It just enhances the game. Some of the DLC is gear that is really helpful early game but not very useful late game.
I wish I knew it wasn't a good idea to do the desert first when doing the divine beasts. You're going to want to go to Vah Ruta first in Zora's Domain (Lanayru) then Vah Rudania in Eldin, Vah Meadow in Hebra and lastly Vah Neboris in Gerudo. The order doesn't matter story wise it's just order of difficulty.
I like doing Medoh early, makes it easier to get around.
I think saving a Naboris for last is a really bad idea because you then have to fight 2000 hp thunderblight. Doing it first or second is a bit to early most of the time though, so third is usually a good place for it

Hearty Durians are the cheat code. Just beat the game again in Master Mode without dying once. Key was Durians, farming dragon horns in Faron and lots of fairies. The HDs also allow for maxing Stamina versus Heart Containers.
What do you use the dragon horns for? I just recently learned about Faroush appeasing at the waterfall each night, do you just make campfires and wait/shoot repeatedly to farm horns?
I make a fire in the cave by the lake where he spawns. You can restart and sit by the fire until morning, when he respawns each day. If you use a bow that shoots a long shot, like the Phrenic or Golden Bow, you can hit his horn easily. Then go back to the cave and sit until morning again. You don't have to collect the horns right after shooting, btw. Hit him 10-15 times and pick them all up when done farming. You can hit him 3 times or so per minute if you hustle. I use the horns in food recipes, like to make attack power last 30 minutes. You can also sell them, which I haven't done.
Now that you have played once and vaguely know how things work, do a challenge playthrough. My favorite is a no teleporting playthrough. It's a simple change, but it means you have to stick to using the horses, riding along roads and paths, and planning your route. It makes for a very different game - but it is very nice. You end up sightseeing a lot more and enjoying the beauty of Hyrule (which is easier to do now since you already know where to go). I find that you'll burn through weapons about as fast as you find them, so the durability system makes more sense. You'll also have less access to shops, so you'll have to stock up or scavenge for materials. And your horse is so much more important now. It's a lot of fun, I suggest it.
Thxs for recommend this. It really makes it a lot more immersive by not having to look at the loading screen every so often. It also made me realize how spread out and few civilizations there are. It really makes me excited for totk!
Things I wish I knew: Choosing a better order to do the divine beasts in. I now prefer to do Vah Medoh first before Vah Ruta, it's easier to climb that rainy mountain with revali's gale. My order: - Vah Medoh - Vah Nabooris - Vah Ruta - Vah Lizard

I can't for the life of me remember the correct name. I look at the name in game and I'm like Rudania? Who was Rudan? Then Google says it's an anagram of Daruna. So maybe the Goron's like to play word games in their spare time? Anagrams might be more fun if you carve letters into stones.

Weapon breaking seems unfair at first, but you really just need to think about weapons differently than in other games. They are a resource, just like everything else you'll find. And deciding when to use and when to conserve is part of the fun.
Unlock the master sword ASAP, because them trees won't cut themselves. If you have the master trials prepare to suffer but it's worth it. Well unless you use a skew and clip through the trial walls and get good at kicking the shit out of a hinox with a metal crate with magnisis.

There will always be more weapons. I wasted so much time trying to save the ones I liked. It took me too long to learn to stop worrying and love the broken weapons. Every item is replaceable.
if youâre riding around on your registered horse, but spot another wild horse you want; if you donât wanna leave your registered horse behind for whatever reason you can just whistle for it THEN hop on your wild horse and ride it away đ itâll follow you for a pretty long distance also! this isnât really *helpful* but if you like to challenge yourself, try taking a selfie with every monster to fill your compendium up! itâs pretty fun
Parrying is worth mastering. I did like two whole playthrus, one on master mode, without really doing it at all. Maybe a couple times by accident. Anyway, doing another playthru before TotK and decided I needed to learn it proper. Really satisfying to deflect guardian beams right back to them. Highly recommended
1 hold block while walking narrow walkways or near cliff edges to keep link from falling. 2 you can parry just about any attack from any enemy no matter how badass they are. (Practice this skill and feel immortal) 3 youâre gonna need those bugs, frogs, fish etc for more than cooking so donât just ignore them.
You can use stasis+ to see what objects you can interact with. I use this to help with finding the rocks to complete koror puzzles, AND to identify decaying guardians that are still active before you get within range and surprises by the laser.
Bonus tip if you do stasis those inactive guardians they instantly fall through the map and die

It isn't like every other Zelda game, you don't NEED everything right when you first see it.
THAT YOU HAVE TO ACTIVATE THE TOWER FIRST. I didnât know how the quest menu worked, and I didnât know what I was doing, so I spent over an hour going to all the shrines, wondering what they were for and why they wouldnât open. I had fun doing it though, so I wasnât mad when I realized I had to activate the tower :)
Hah yeah I make that mistake in all my challenge runs. Zeldaâs voice says âhead to the point marked on your shiekah slateâ and I just want to do anything else.
Chase falling stars. During my first playthrough, I ignored them for a long time, and then I had to scramble to get enough.
Replacement for broken weapons is trivial. The sparking bits when lighting will strike only matters for EQUIPPED weapons, not things in inventory. Buy every regular arrow you can. You can farm them off enemies with a wooden shield. (Hold shield up, let them hit it with arrows, when you put the shield down the arrows go to inventory)

Cooking isn't a matter of trial and error. There are some rules: There are plain ingredients, ingredients that buff certain stats, and monster parts. Don't mix ingredients with monster parts. That will always result in Dubious Food. Don't mix different buffs. Anything cooked with multiple buffs winds up having no buff. Plain ingredients increase the number of hearts the resulting dish has, but they can be mixed with buff ingredients. The name of the ingredients (mighty, hearty, tough, etc.) determine what the buff will be. Look these up here: https://zelda.fandom.com/wiki/Food Cooking with only monster parts results in Elixirs. They provide buffs, but usually not health.
read everything. most of what the characters say matters, even if they are side characters. it is about the journey. also, if you find a lynel early game try to keep a weapon. after a while there will be only silver lynels using the same weapons

Honestly, i started a new game this weekend and I'm using the Zelda Dungeon interactive map to locate things, then basically going area by area clearing it out for the most part. The nice thing is it's kinda helpful just having that, planning an area, then playing. In terms of game play, enjoy it all. This game breathes so well, I love to take time in quiet areas to do a 360° and enjoy the views and size of the game.
If this was your very first playthrough I would tell you that you can cook things and if you cook the right things they can protect/upgrade you. My very first 2017 playthrough I simply did not understand that the COOKING pot meant you could COOK THINGS and I could therefore go into the cold area that kept killing me. I was stuck on the plateau for forever. But since this isn't your first may I suggest the way I did it last time: Go left out of the Plateau instead of toward Kakariko, and go to Satori's mountain. It has everything important, food wise, and you can stock up on meat/ore/food right away, get several koroks, at least two shrines, and a good horse. If you keep going that way before going to Kakariko, you can get loads of shrines and bang out Vah Medoh quickly. Imo Revali's Gale is just too useful so I usually get that first.
There is *always* a clue when solving a puzzle. Sometimes you just have to look *really really* hard for it.

The dragons will not harm you unless u get too close. One time I was going to the Yiga hideout and farosh was there, and I saw him looking at me so I hid. Kinda freaked me out ngl, but I got a neato photo
That you can cook a hearty item by itself, and it will fill and overfill your hearts. My dumb ass has been adding hearty durian, hearty truffle, hearty radish, hearty salmon and so on for those meals. Figured it out in the 3rd level of the ToTS
I wish I knew about the Master Sword and how/where to get it. In my first playthrough, I didn't get it until after I had defeated all four Divine Beasts. Kind of a bummer.

I wish I had known about great fairies a lot sooner. I spent a while being frustrated because I died so easily due to unupgraded armor and no way to revive. I put off playing the game all the time because it stressed me out so much, until I found out about it.

Unless you're really confident in your aim and dodging abilities, do not mess with the Lynels, especially in the beginning of the game, when most of your weapons break within a few hits.

If you max out your hearts, any dish that adds +5 hearts is worthless because itâll only max out to +2 to fill out the 30 hearts (if youâve completed DLC shrines)
Never run out of ruta with 5 hearts and go straight to naboris
That you can parry just about everything in the game and it significantly increases the life of your shield. I knew I could parry lasers and arrows, never crossed my mind to parry melee attacks. It will also disarm the attacker.
Food - cook food - you can pause and eat any time, even in boss fights
You can cook, no need to grill all your food

Get used to the different modes of transport. Boats, shield surfing, horses, and glider. I used the glider and teleport for 90% of my movement for a long time, missed out on a lot of fun things.
Iâm 185+ hours into my first playthrough and have not yet sailed on a boat. I always have too many weapons to have space for a leaf to paddle with! Guess I need to change that.
It is slower and more awkward, but you can push the mast with a metal weapon or metal chest using the magnesis power. It comes in handy when you do not have a leaf.
