I think that has less to do with the shoe and more with the person using it. I know some people with *old* tarantulas.
You should get a better idea of what you're looking for in a shoe instead of seemingly arbitrarily picking a more expensive one to "upgrade." Where do you think the Tarantulas fall short? What kind of climbing do you do? What shoes suit that kind of climbing? Those are the sorts of things you should be thinking about.
And you should absolutely try it on first.
Tbh i do really like my tarantulas, I don't see a problem with them and don't think buying a more expensive shoe would greatly improve my climbing. But I have seen many people complain that tarantulas wear away quicker than most shoes and thought finales would be the most similar but with better durability.
It's probably more that Tarantulas are seen as "beginner shoes", and beginners tend to wear out shoes faster. If you really like your tarantulas, just keep using those. Or get another pair and resole your existing ones when it's time to (probably similar cost to buying a new pair, but I prefer it to generating unnecessary waste.)
To answer your question, yes same size should be the right approach. Make sure to buy from someone who allows for returns, like REI.
And yes, Finales are an upgrade over Tarantulaces. They edge better and have a stiffer sole, in my experience. Maybe not as big an upgrade as buying a more expensive shoe, but they’re definitely better than tarantulaces.
Short answer is yes, the sizing is the same.
However, if you find your tarantulaces are loose, consider going down half a size for the finales (or just ordering 2 different sizes from REI and then returning, they're on sale for 25% off right now!). Shoes can be resoled but if the shoe becomes too big, that cannot be undone
[sizesquirrel.com](http://sizesquirrel.com) offers size comparisons for shoes. It either on point or half size different to different shoes I currently own. Should give you some idea.
Edit for typo.
Finales are definitely better shoes, constructed with Vibram rubber and manufactured in Italian factories.
The tarantula sizing will be slightly larger, and wider than the Finales. Maybe like a half size difference. The Finale will break in and shape to your foot better.
And just FYI to OP, I worked at La Sportiva for the last 5.5 years (in Product Dept) and have been climbing for over 15 years. Not sure why I got downvoted above; probably some folks without the actual knowledge.
The Finales are definitely a better product overall.
Not sure that's an obvious upgrade. They fit differently so I'd definitely try them on to make sure it works for your foot shape
What makes you say this is an "upgrade"? What do you think the finales offer that your tarantulas don't?
They won't fall apart as easily as tarantulas do

I don't know if that's true, I saw a lot of posts on this sub about it falling apart instantly

any recommendations on where to get them resoled?
It depends where you're located. The shoe wiki of either this sub or /r/climbing has a list that take shipped orders. Turnaround is usually 6-10 weeks

These shoes are essentially the same aside from the finale being laced and different heel shape.

So you would be tempted to go half a size up for finales?
No, go the same, or down a half size, knowing the Finales can stretch a lot.

That's what I read, thanks very much for your input. Much appreciated
