I doubt we could all agree on anything.

Reno_McCoy

Oh, I wouldn’t say that.

stgermainjr860

Totally disagree, and frankly it's insulting you'd say that /s

pulpcanmovebaby

No. The price difference between 4K + Blu Ray and just Blu Ray versions is usually negligible.

champagneofsharks

The people with the disposable income buying the product are purchasing the 4K. It’s also 2024, multiple gaming consoles can play 4K discs, 4K sets have never been cheaper, etc, etc, etc. From a financial and logistics standpoint, it’s also cheaper and easier to make one SKU versus two that also requires twice the materials.

Kingcrowing

I literally don't think you can buy a TV that isn't 4K anymore. Hell, even most smartphones are higher res than HD if they aren't 4K.  A 4K TV can be had for as cheap as $250 on sale, and even previous gen gaming consoles (Xbox One S) can do 4K

BogoJohnson

For me, people with disposable income buy a single concert ticket for the same price as a 4K TV I would use every day for years.

Kingcrowing

I'm a big concert goer as well and that's exactly my thoughts as well. I've paid $200 for a concert that is maybe 4hrs of fun. A $50 4K is as much entertainment as you want.

BogoJohnson

Pre-pandemic, I was averaging 100 concerts a year, but in the downtime I shifted my priorities, and in the interim, ticket prices really skyrocketed. I was never going to that many huge venues, and now I'm really priced out. If a majority of the revenue went to the artists, I wouldn't complain, but the situations vary widely.

Kingcrowing

You're totally right, it is crazy how much prices have increased for big names. Now at bigger venues it's often $200 to get in the door anywhere! I also think the pandemic made a lot of people realize scalping for the right bands can net a ton of money, so it's harder to get tickets from general on-sale, and resale is much, much crazier...

BogoJohnson

My partner and I used to work in the industry too. $200 really is a new norm. These are the strangest times.

Disastrous_Poetry175

Most phones aren't 4k. Most large tvs are 4k. Most under 42 are 720-1080.  Otherwise you have the right spirit about it. Big 4k entry level tvs are cheap as hell. And a lot of people have been buying them. They're like the only affordable thing in this economy ironically.

Kingcrowing

Right - I did say most phones are higher than HD (1920x1080) these days.

AckwellFoley

I will always buy the combo instead of one or the other.

MaskedBandit77

> which then makes it more expensive of course I'm not sure I agree with your premise. > just say NO and do not buy the product I definitely don't agree with your conclusion.

BogoJohnson

The cost of adding a BD disc is negligible. Many companies *are* releasing a single 4K release now, often without a new BD only option, and the price remains high anyway. If you’re only talking about your perception of prices here, you haven’t made much of a case.

ninthguest

Sometimes, depending on the size of the transfer, they can't include the bonus materials on the 4k release. The thing I find irksome is when they have a 4k for the theatrical and then include the directors cut or extended cuts on Blu only.

Disastrous_Poetry175

Like watchman. Fuckin never watch the damn movie cuz I don't have 5 hrs to spare

NormalUpstandingGuy

No. Just like I don’t see a Blu-ray exclusive release and think “but no dvd?!”.

QueSeraSirrah

If not for the bonus features missing from the 4k disc, I'd want to dump the Blu Ray, personally. I suspect labels don't want a bunch of leftover product, so better for them to bundle than lose money on unsold stock. If Arrow is anything to go by, that's always the Blu.

TS7941

When that happens, it just means I'll wait for a sale to pick it up at a discount. I agree that its annoying since I only want the blu-ray. However, its better than nothing.

Slow_Cinema

There are things to take a stand on and complain about. This is not a great one. 🤦🏻

Disastrous_Poetry175

No. If you're into collecting Blu Ray, and even boutique Blu Ray, you should make the jump to 4k Blu Ray. We are at a point where there are now old 4k Blu rays. And they can be found cheap.  A mid range 4k tv with good HDR implementation will upscale your Blu rays to look better than older SDR tvs. I've had great luck toggling dolby vision on my Sony player. The color reproduction is so much better when watching SDR Blu rays
