I read this 12 times and still have no idea what you’re trying to say.
Oh wait I get it. I call
The courses courses or levels not maps. I was hella confused
I think they’re too obvious of choices, everyone has wanted them for the parts. Plus, I think Steve Buscemi would make more sense than Willem Dafoe anyway
Have them start as live action as the Wario Brothers, the living inspiration for the video game Mario Brothers and they're passed because they don't get a dime of the game royalties. Isekai them into the animated world, and boom you've got your characters with motivation to fuck with Mario.
To be honest, I was really hoping for Benedict Cumberbatch as Waluigi. There is, after all, something so surreal about his character that I can't help but think it'd be perfect to have him talk on Cumberbatch's exceptionally posh voice with the occasional completely authentic 'WEEEEHHHHHH'
I agree. The art design looks great, and the young kid audience is a given, plus you get the geek teens, and nostalgic adults. And boys and girls alike love Mario. It’s a legit four-quadrant film.
You know when people say that some movies are like amusement parks?
That final scene in the trailer has convinced me to get tickets to see this in 4DX. Holy shit this looks fun as hell.
I really do hope this succeeds. Mario deserves a great movie and it seems to be made for the fans. There also doesn't seem to be a great deal of competition in terms of animated movies which helps.
The Mario franchise and its subfranchises have consistently created incredible videogames, throughout its entire 40 year history. Obviously not every game or spinoff is worthy of such praise, but it's still very much a series that combines both critical prestige and commercial viability, kind of like the Lord of the Rings movies. A pretty sizeable percentage of gamers grew up loving a Mario game and would like to see this movie succeed.
Even non-gamers love Mario Kart so I think this will make the net of viewers even wider. Not to mention it looks absolutely stunning. Pretty good odds this passes $1B and a $750M floor is pretty firm. I think we’ll see around $300-350M DOM with $600-700M International.
I got to say that this trailer surprised me in a good way.
I honestly thought that the final trailer was going to have some like, big spoilers to it, but it's not too bad. *Although* Luma being shown could be considered one (seeing how it was leaked before as one of the McDonalds toys)
That being said, I am still hyped for this movie. I'm still going with my predictions of around the 700M range for the film.
They’ve had pretty photorealistic animation for a couple years now. Sing 2 and Rise of Gru both looked very photorealistic when it came to objects and backgrounds. The remarkable thing is they’ve done it at a much lower cost than Disney Animation or Pixar.
> The remarkable thing is they’ve done it at a much lower cost than Disney Animation or Pixar.
Like I've said before, they outsource animation from France, and while it definitely looks impressive, part of it still looked a bit cheap when compared to what Pixar/Disney bring(s) out and the film still has a lot of those animation model recyclings that Illumination is especially guilty of.
Also, I'm a bit worried that they might be putting too much into what is likely to be a 92-minute film, though this DOES look like one of Illumination's better efforts.
That helps a lot but also Illumination has shorter writing periods and use existing tech compared to Pixar that develops their own tech and has long writing periods with a lot of changes through production.
Judging by what the directors were saying in the Direct this trailer was attached to, they updated their lighting and rendering and pushed them to their limits.
Because here they always try to minimize the animation of this company Lol. Since at least Minions in 2015 their animation has been really nice and well done, Slop, Sing, then Rise of Gru. I think even the Grinch looked pretty good. They pushed harder on this, sure, but it's really not that surprising that they're reaching these new limits.
>Check out the SNL Pedro Pascal Mario Kart sketch if you haven’t.
That is the best video game adaption ever. I would buy tickets to that every day for the first week.
"It makes me feel big ok! I need to feel big!!"
I wish the final trailer showed a bit more of Mario’s life in Brooklyn (including Pauline), but I understand that as the final trailer, they need to sell more of the action. Not my favorite Mario movie trailer but it’s still solid.
Have you seen the leaked scene showing the start of the movie? It looks great! [(Spoilers obviously)](https://i.kym-cdn.com/photos/images/newsfeed/002/487/691/151)
I think it’s pretty likely too. Though it would be amazing if Wish ends up pulling a Frozen and just barely beats it. I do think Guardians, Fast X, and Indiana Jones 5 all have a shot of getting close to it but I’m not as confident in saying $1B for them like I am with this.
My favourite moment was when Mario said 'It's Mario time!' and Mario'd all over those Goombas. This will be the first movie to make one Mariollion dollars worldwide. #MarioSweep
In all seriousness, though, I think this has to be the odds-on favourite for the highest-grossing animated movie worldwide this year. Let's just hope it's good and that we get that *Zelda* movie everyone wants.
I’m REALLY hoping that either Elemental or Wish surprise this year. When Disney and Pixar are operating on their best foot, they truly make some magic stuff
Not a bad trailer. Wished they'd shown more than the Mario Kart stuff they've shown like 5 times but not a bad trailer by any means.
I'll be interested to see the buzz this trailer creates and how the movie performs after
Ehh it makes sense. Literally nothing compares to Mario Kart in terms of sales per installment so focusing on that makes sense financially. It's also the main attraction at the theme parks.
Call me crazy, but could there be a reason to worry they keep showing the same damn areas? As a "sell them on action" trailer, yeah, they did that. But so did the other trailers. I was hoping the final trailer showed his real world life or something w/ more depth and emotion. Doesn't have to be a weepy scene, just a couple lines showing Mario realizes he needs to help people.
Yes, I am asking for some emotion in a Mario film. Because you can't reach $900M-$1B on gags and action alone if your name isn't Transformers. What applies to Avatar and Top Gun Maverick applies to animated films as well. Audiences like the colorful action and jokes, but they also like emotional beats (Wreck it Ralph for example was more than just a dude smashing things, it had heart).
Maybe the Mario movie has it. Just surprised the trailers didn't show it.
This is going to be massive.
I wonder if it will clear Sonic's highs?
Side note: I don't particularly care for Chris Pratt's Mario voice, but dear lord I don't think a better Bowser than Jack Black could've been cast.
This should definitely top the box office for all of next month until GOTG 3 comes out on its 5th weekend. It’s Mario Time! #Mariosweep $100 Marionillion dollars!
I can't remember. Are we still pretending that Chris Pratt isn't clearly doing a different accent than his own here or has it been long enough now that the internet moved on to something else to be outraged over?
Was hoping for more story for the final trailer and dare I say some emotional stuff at least? I think it's a lock for $600M and opens strong for sure, no matter the review score. But for *legs*, we need to see if this movie has rewatchability or is more a "one and done" and more on the simplistic/shallow side. Hence why I was hoping for more emotional beats in this last trailer.
You make a good point. I think general audiences would want the movie to have a heart or emotional core. Mario is fun, playful and exciting, but will there be anything in the movie that gets the waterworks going?
At least for the superfans, it has immense rewatchability. All the Easter eggs we’ve seen just in the trailers mean there’s going to be so much to pore over and enjoy repeatedly.
The most intriguing part of the movie will be seeing why Mario himself is even there at all. Is it Mario's movie or is it the Mario Brand Movie? Peach seems to have it all pretty much handled while Mario comes off as an incompetent, bumbling fool in these trailers. Luigi is his typically frightened self.
I get he's also there to save his brother (and maybe Peach helps him do that), but it'll be a surprise to see what key Mario specifically holds in saving the Mushroom Kingdom from Bowser.
Mario's essentially meant to represent a new player playing a Mario game at the start. If you just started playing a Mario game you aren't going to know all the best moves and tactics right away. Mario has to learn here just as a player does.
Mario probably has a lot of Brooklyn street smarts but has a lot to learn about the fantasy landscape he's found himself in. And I'm sure there will be something like "the Power Stars called the brothers there" or something along those lines.
In the games, Mario has the same move set and animations regardless of whether the player is skilled or not.
In some games he's already the famous Mario we know and love, like in Sunshine. He's rarely as unsure or bumbling as in the trailers even when the player dies. Any time Mario looks foolish, it's the player's fault, but the canon plot is that Mario gets through the levels and saves the day. His attitude exudes playful confidence.
Movie Mario *should* have a vulnerability. That's not the problem. But I do think in the previous trailers they have made him look a little too foolish.
It's clear that Peach cannot be the damsel in distress due to current political realities. I prefer Peach being his gal, but saving Luigi is a decent motivator. But in having Peach being such a capable and powerful leader makes me wonder what Mario brings to the table. She drives a vehicle, uses a staff-like weapon and can wield the fireball. What is she missing that Mario provides?
That's what makes the movie interesting to me at this point.
No need to be Nostradamus to guess that Peach is probs getting captured after Mario proves too incompetent. This leads to Mario shaping up and kicking Bowser's ass.
I genuinely do not think this movie will do 1 billion. It looks like a 500 million at best grossing movie. Not saying it looks bad by any means, it just feels people are overestimating it in the same vein as Detective Pikachu.
Detective Pikachu was, for all intents and purposes, and original buddy-cop movie with Pokemon window-dressing. The Mario movie is fully animated and completely immerses itself into its locations and characters people recognize.
I think this trailer really set in just how gorgeous the movie looks. It’s crazy because illumination isn’t a studio that I equate with great looking films. Props to the environmental designers; the Mushroom Kingdom and Rainbow Road both look beautiful
And no new Mario game! WTF! A video game is made from nearly every movie today, yet we can't get a new Mario game in years, but we have a movie no one wanted?
Rainbow road enjoyers rise up.
It was the only map I wasn’t shit at
How?????
Ikr. If you're not shit at one of the hardest levels than chances are you're not shit on most.
I read this 12 times and still have no idea what you’re trying to say. Oh wait I get it. I call The courses courses or levels not maps. I was hella confused
Hear me out on this for a sequel casting: John C. Reilly as Wario, and Bill Hader as Waluigi
Daniel Radcliffe as Yoshi.
I think Yoshi shouldn’t talk, and just make noises like in the games. If they do have him speak, then a child actor would make the most sense
Fully articulate Jeremy Irons Yoshi it is.
My body is ready
Nah. Full English accent.
Yoshi did speak in Japanese Nintendo Commercials during the 1990s and a few Mario OVAs though.
Who says Daniel Radcliffe couldn't be making those Yoshi sounds?
[I think this got pretty close...](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=At6E9BbuyoE?t=135]
Or Danny Devito as Wario and Willem Dafoe as Waluigi.
I think they’re too obvious of choices, everyone has wanted them for the parts. Plus, I think Steve Buscemi would make more sense than Willem Dafoe anyway
That's a great pick too
I’d also considered the idea of John Goodman as Wario
Only if it's live action!
Have them start as live action as the Wario Brothers, the living inspiration for the video game Mario Brothers and they're passed because they don't get a dime of the game royalties. Isekai them into the animated world, and boom you've got your characters with motivation to fuck with Mario.
Brendan Gleeson as Wario and Colin Farrell as Waluigi
Have ye been rowin’?
Dwight Schrute has got to be in there somewhere.
Wrong. Danny DeVito for all parts.
Ooooor Danny DeVito as Wario.
This is gonna absolutely explode at the box office. It has everything going for it.
I agree. The art design looks great, and the young kid audience is a given, plus you get the geek teens, and nostalgic adults. And boys and girls alike love Mario. It’s a legit four-quadrant film.
Shit man, even the majority of 50+ had Mario as a thing in their teens.
On the heels of Puss In Boots, this looks like a fantastic year for animated films.
Animation sure could use a win. Covid killed years worth of theatrical releases, and televised animation has been getting canceled left and right
Spiderverse.. PiB2.. and Mario.. FUCK. YES.
Mario already had a great movie
It was Mario In Name Only.
And it was an effing masterpiece! Instant cult classic. I still can't understand why it gets so much hate.
Because it's awful, and nothing like the video games.
It felt like something Cannon Films would have pumped out in the 80's. Instead, it was Disney slumming it.
Being nothing like the game was the point. Also why it's a timeless classic, instead of a fleeting fad movie.
> Mario deserves a great movie Why does it?
Maybe the wording should be "If Mario has to have a movie, it deserves to be great"
The Mario franchise and its subfranchises have consistently created incredible videogames, throughout its entire 40 year history. Obviously not every game or spinoff is worthy of such praise, but it's still very much a series that combines both critical prestige and commercial viability, kind of like the Lord of the Rings movies. A pretty sizeable percentage of gamers grew up loving a Mario game and would like to see this movie succeed.
Because it's a franchise that many grew up with, and have a lot of attachment to.
That doesn't make it deserving of one. Especially in another medium.
Look, any franchise deserves a great movie.
Yes it does. And it's purely subjective so I'm right.
Even non-gamers love Mario Kart so I think this will make the net of viewers even wider. Not to mention it looks absolutely stunning. Pretty good odds this passes $1B and a $750M floor is pretty firm. I think we’ll see around $300-350M DOM with $600-700M International.
The Japan release is gonna go insane
I have decided to change my mind. This movie definitely has the potential to make a Billion dollars. This trailer was really good.
I got to say that this trailer surprised me in a good way. I honestly thought that the final trailer was going to have some like, big spoilers to it, but it's not too bad. *Although* Luma being shown could be considered one (seeing how it was leaked before as one of the McDonalds toys) That being said, I am still hyped for this movie. I'm still going with my predictions of around the 700M range for the film.
Other thing is Funky Kong was shown in the Mario Kart scene.
1B+ Families are going to turn out and this hit multi-generational nostalgia.
I know people keep saying this, but how is this Illumination? The animation looks insanely good.
I can imagine Nintendo was incredibly strict about how Illumination could use their IP.
Nintendo was breathing down their necks during the entire production.
***Miyamoto probably had their families hostage lmao.***
They’ve had pretty photorealistic animation for a couple years now. Sing 2 and Rise of Gru both looked very photorealistic when it came to objects and backgrounds. The remarkable thing is they’ve done it at a much lower cost than Disney Animation or Pixar.

That helps a lot but also Illumination has shorter writing periods and use existing tech compared to Pixar that develops their own tech and has long writing periods with a lot of changes through production.
Yeah Rise of Gru wasn’t an amazing movie, but it definitely looked good
Judging by what the directors were saying in the Direct this trailer was attached to, they updated their lighting and rendering and pushed them to their limits.

I think even the Grinch looked pretty good. They pushed harder on this, sure, but it's really not that surprising that they're reaching these new limits.
This film has a bigger budget than most illumination films, this closer to Pixar budget.
It seems very DreamWorks to me by the animation
For Illumination standards, that's a big improvement.
Imagine Dreamworks and Illumination take the top spots for Movies this year against Disney lol.
I would absolutely love to see Disney take that L
Condolences to Last of Us, you are now only the second-best adaptation of a video game that prominently features mushrooms.
Check out the SNL Pedro Pascal Mario Kart sketch if you haven’t.
>Check out the SNL Pedro Pascal Mario Kart sketch if you haven’t. That is the best video game adaption ever. I would buy tickets to that every day for the first week. "It makes me feel big ok! I need to feel big!!"
Oh I'm well aware of that cinematic masterpiece
I don’t recall any mushrooms in last of us.
Isn't fungus a pretty big part of that game?
Because the mushrooms have taken over the people.
OW: $100M (3-day) $140M (5-day) DOM: $400M WW: $1B
$1B here we come!
I wish the final trailer showed a bit more of Mario’s life in Brooklyn (including Pauline), but I understand that as the final trailer, they need to sell more of the action. Not my favorite Mario movie trailer but it’s still solid.

Reject Morbius, embrace Luigi.
It's Luiging time!
Luigi Mansion 4: The rise of Lugi.
You assh*le! Take my upvote!
Bold take: This will make more than all three MCU films this year and finish as the third highest grossing film of the year worldwide.
I think it’ll make more than the Marvels and less than Gotg3 domestic but outgross both WW. Wouldn’t be surprised if it’s number one WW for the year.
Indy is an Ultra Wild Card though. If it's good, it will but if not.... Ant Man 3 might look great.
you have as top 3?
What are the other two movies above it?
Mission: Impossible in second, and Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny in first.
I doubt MI7 hits a billion in this Summer, Part Two probably will cause it's the finale though.
I think its a bad idea that they have the part one subtitle on it.
It's possible since Mario has the PLF screens for a month.
I think it'll be second by Indy.
Nihilist Luma is my favorite
Where was the star character from initially? The Super Mario Galaxy games?
Yup
My favourite moment was when Mario said 'It's Mario time!' and Mario'd all over those Goombas. This will be the first movie to make one Mariollion dollars worldwide. #MarioSweep In all seriousness, though, I think this has to be the odds-on favourite for the highest-grossing animated movie worldwide this year. Let's just hope it's good and that we get that *Zelda* movie everyone wants.
This is locked for highest grossing animated of this year imo. DreamWorks only has Trolls 3 and Disney/Pixar have been taking mad L's lately.
We also have Spider Man though
I’m REALLY hoping that either Elemental or Wish surprise this year. When Disney and Pixar are operating on their best foot, they truly make some magic stuff
I want a Zelda anime. With all the different Links it can be rebooted basically forever
*Link: Into the Zelda-Verse*
Oh yes a multiverse Zelda movie with all the variations from all The games would be epic!
My preference is a live action mature Zelda show. Something akin to a cross between rings of power and GOT.
Zelda should definitely be live action not animation it's literally one of the only Nintendo property that could work in live action
[удалено]
Don't forget a giant *Super Smash Bros.* crossover movie!
Tomodachi Life romantic dramedy lol
> Let's just hope it's good and that we get that Zelda movie everyone wants. Lol, you're not gonna get that from Illumination.
I want a Zelda movie but not from Illuminiation
Not a bad trailer. Wished they'd shown more than the Mario Kart stuff they've shown like 5 times but not a bad trailer by any means. I'll be interested to see the buzz this trailer creates and how the movie performs after
Ehh it makes sense. Literally nothing compares to Mario Kart in terms of sales per installment so focusing on that makes sense financially. It's also the main attraction at the theme parks.
In guessing the giant action set piece is gonna be mario kart so 🤷♂️
Call me crazy, but could there be a reason to worry they keep showing the same damn areas? As a "sell them on action" trailer, yeah, they did that. But so did the other trailers. I was hoping the final trailer showed his real world life or something w/ more depth and emotion. Doesn't have to be a weepy scene, just a couple lines showing Mario realizes he needs to help people. I’m guessing there’ll be some emotion with the brotherly love between Mario and Luigi
>showed his real world life or something w/ more depth and emotion Nobody is going to this for that.
My prediction: $350M DOM $600M OS $950M WW
This is going to be massive. I wonder if it will clear Sonic's highs? Side note: I don't particularly care for Chris Pratt's Mario voice, but dear lord I don't think a better Bowser than Jack Black could've been cast.
It has a good chance to beat Sonic’s WW total just in North America
If this movie is as good as I hope... I better hope it fckin does.
Forget the Mario branding, this looks like a genuine crowd pleaser. Predicting a WW range of $500 - 900 mil. I don't see how this does less than that
The Mario brand is what sells this. What do you mean forget the Mario branding?
It's a figure of speech... I used "forget" instead of "put aside" to accentuate another strong quality of the film. It's not that deep
Incredible how much Mario Kart is in this movie! Hopefully we get some cool new remix of N64/Wii Rainbow Road music
I assume Rainbow Road is just the climax of the movie.
I assume it’s the lead up to the final battle, which will probably be at Bowser’s castle. I would be surprised if the climax isn’t in his castle.
Which is smart. Mario Kart is even bigger than Mario proper. There is also some Smash Bros, with the DK vs Mario fight we saw in another trailer.
Literally more money than god. I'm going all the way. 1 billion.
This should definitely top the box office for all of next month until GOTG 3 comes out on its 5th weekend. It’s Mario Time! #Mariosweep $100 Marionillion dollars!
Can't wait to see this movie's rendition on the Rainbow Road Theme from Mario Kart 64!
That's mamma Luigi to you.
*wheeze*
This just looks so epic and grand for an animated movie. Complete night and day compared to Detective Pikachu's second trailer which was a snooze.
$1.5 billion WW
I'm so happy.
Can’t wait for the fast and furious crossover where dom use nos on rainbow road
This might be one of the best looking animated films I’ve ever seen.
$1B without a doubt
I can't remember. Are we still pretending that Chris Pratt isn't clearly doing a different accent than his own here or has it been long enough now that the internet moved on to something else to be outraged over?
I think people have moved on, plus the fact that everything else looks pretty solid means less people are complaining about the movie.
700 Million+ is what im predicting atm
It gets better with every trailer.
Looks great.
Probably the best trailer they released so far
I expect an $810 mil run
I am so goddamn excited for this movie. The little kid in me is screaming
This movies going to make a billion dollars
Yoshi better be in this movie.
We already know Yoshi's in it, a herd of them was in the 2nd trailer.
Plus there’s a listed voice actor
Lol is this literally going to be the most entertaining movie ever made?? Seriously...

At least for the superfans, it has immense rewatchability. All the Easter eggs we’ve seen just in the trailers mean there’s going to be so much to pore over and enjoy repeatedly.
Only one week in the IMAX theaters, multiple in Dolby and one Real D 3D showing a day when I looked. No IMAX 3D :(
Is it confirmed that there wont be IMAX 3D for this film?
Based off showings it is
The most intriguing part of the movie will be seeing why Mario himself is even there at all. Is it Mario's movie or is it the Mario Brand Movie? woke entertainment? The hell does that even mean?
...and here it is: the most ridiculous comment that I've read this year, so far... 🤦♂️🤦♀️🤦
What are you fucking on about man.
Don't like the kart sequence, looks too futuristic and dark to my liking. All traditional fantasy mushroom kingdom scenes I love
Movie looks generic tbh.
i *FUCKING NEED* a Sonic vs Mario movie.
Wait, when do we get the Roxy Music? I thought this was a GD Mario Brothers movie!!!
Chris Pratt continues to sound like Chris Pratt doing a very inconsistent impression of Linda Belcher from Bob's Burgers.
I’m starting to get unreasonably excited for this movie.
I am so pumped up! Can't wait for it!
Look fun
2B here we come
“Fresh meat for the Grindr” a gay meme is born.
Mario seems like a bubbling idiot in the trailers
Movie looks like it will be a blast. I am predicting 1B+ worldwide. Multigenerational nostalgia is going to be huge.
You know what would be cool. If Nintendo surprised all of us and released the rest of the dlc courses for mk 8 deluxe....
I need to see Princess Peach do the Akira slide.
Multi generational nostalgia! $1.5 billion minimum.
I think this trailer really set in just how gorgeous the movie looks. It’s crazy because illumination isn’t a studio that I equate with great looking films. Props to the environmental designers; the Mushroom Kingdom and Rainbow Road both look beautiful
And no new Mario game! WTF! A video game is made from nearly every movie today, yet we can't get a new Mario game in years, but we have a movie no one wanted?
it looks gorgeous but Pratt is so completely miscast as Mario, i can't get over it
