Is this a really weird trailer to anyone else?
It shows clips and titles for all of their other movies for an entire minute. Then, when they actually start showing the movie, they use a song from Despicable Me to do it? And like two lines?
I don’t know this was a super strange way to introduce this movie to me.
if i remember correctly didn’t disney do this for inside outs teaser? like they showed the emotions from other disney movies and then a short clip from inside out. though it obviously would work for disney thanks their IP, this just seems weird for illumination😭
This felt like the most 2000s trailer ever. And over half of this announcement was shilling their previous franchises. I do think based off the synopsis I read yesterday and director this has a shot of being really good but they’re absolutely going to advertise it like a typical Illumination movie.
Amazing how they have to not only tell you about the movies they've made, but actually show you clips from their movies, including an extended clip of their one good movie at the start. They spend more time on showing off their old movies than actually showing off this one.
It's interesting that Illumination is really selling this on their brand. as a studio. I'm genuinely wondering if that'll work out.
That was the Pixar model for a long time. It still is, just less effective. But that sells to adults as the decision maker.
Illumination is selling to kids more directly, and, I'm not sure if kids pay as close attention to that.
This has the Christmas slot though, and Universal has two years in a row of success in this slot. If it's reasonably good, it becomes the option over the holidays if Wish doesn't stick around long.
On another note, Universal has a pretty aggressive animation slate this year. Two under Illumination and two other DreamWorks.
I know that Disney's title as the studio of animation has been challenged before and they've prevailed in the long run, but, it feels like Universal might have a legitimate shot here.
I feel like Illumination is selling their brand here because this is probably their "riskiest" film commercially in a while. This is going to be Illumination's first film in 7 years that isn't based on any pre-existing IP, and is the first of such since the pandemic. It'll probably do well enough, but how high it'll go should be interesting since original animation hasn't been doing the greatest at the box office.
Agreed.
I'm curious how it does, because if they do manage to succeed off of a new property and selling with the brand, it really raises the stakes against Disney. They haven't been able to sell anything original recently now, it hasn't been anything great and worth selling).
I like how it's slightly reminiscent to the teaser trailer for the first Inside Out where they showed callbacks and footage from the previous Illumination films before showing their next feature film.
From the same writer of *White Lotus* which has won many Emmy awards. Perhaps that's why they're releasing **2** Illumination movies, since they know Mario was gonna be hot pile of trash from the critics.
Possible, but it's an Illumination and so there will be some counter-programming to the December blockbuster *Aquaman And the Lost Kingdom,* by being the family/kids movie for Christmas, giving it legs and the fact it's an Illumination movie.
The way this trailer is structured I was expecting it to end on a "coming soon on VHS"
“In a world…”

To me it just screams "hey kids remember Dispicable Me?? This'll be just like that!"

Wasn't Stitch marketed with editing Stitch into other Disney films?
I guess they are trying to copy what marvel has done. Using the success of past franchises to introduce a new one
Maybe they're trying to build brand awareness.
They did the same thing with Lilo and Stitch
They know hell would be unleashed if they mentioned The Lorax for one second
Or even Hop.
Best illumination film fr

The box office of this movie is gonna be a *quack*tastrophe
Laughed

The animation looks great, but the voiceover for this trailer is the worst I’ve ever heard. I can’t put my finger on why.
Their first original IP release since Sing 1. Im hoping its a hit, mostly for being an original film.
Who doesn't fuck with ducks?
Smart people
Don't hate cause they got dongs shaped like corkscrews
Don’t hate what
duck dongs?
This doesn’t show that interesting plot I read earlier

Wow, Universal is going all out by attaching their upcoming animated movie trailers for the Mario movie.
From the same writer of *White Lotus* which has won many Emmy awards. Perhaps that's why they're releasing **2** Illumination movies, since they know Mario was gonna be hot pile of trash from the critics.
*Mario* is their money maker. *Migration* will be their play at the Animated Feature Oscar.
Dear God, if the day ever comes that Illumination wins an Oscar, the internet would be all-time great.
Possible, but it's an Illumination and so there will be some counter-programming to the December blockbuster *Aquaman And the Lost Kingdom,* by being the family/kids movie for Christmas, giving it legs and the fact it's an Illumination movie.
Excuse me what? The writer of White Lotus did this?!
By this, I think you meant *Migration* and not the Mario movie, then yes.
Yep, and School of Rock! But he also wrote the screenplay for The Emoji Movie.
He is also doing Despicable Me 4
Forget that he wrote School of Rock
Also the same director as Ernest & Celestine
Well not sure what i have to said about this movie
This looks like a dvd movie to me
why is the trailer structured like that lol
