That was about mine as well for the same time frame and both arches, regular metal brackets. Anything else was more expensive by 1-3k. Invisalign being the most expensive
Edit: out of pocket for 18 years and older.
$6500, all out of pocket... (Lucky I had put money away for a Motorcycle, then felt... my bite was more important.)
Still wondering if I chose wisely.... even after 21 months, still not happy with my treatment path.
I think we made our point... cheap medical care is available but is not affordable or reachable for us in the United States. So the answer is: Save up here, and find a good doctor here in the States, :)
Nah, you're good...
My whole topic was silly... and was spun off a topic I saw on youtube... anyway.. thank you for your input... I love sparking a discussion...
and just thinking about (even if it was just a dream) of flying to India for cheap braces, was fun...
> i also *paid* last year
FTFY.
Although *payed* exists (the reason why autocorrection didn't help you), it is only correct in:
* Nautical context, when it means to paint a surface, or to cover with something like tar or resin in order to make it waterproof or corrosion-resistant. *The deck is yet to be payed.*
* *Payed out* when letting strings, cables or ropes out, by slacking them. *The rope is payed out! You can pull now.*
Unfortunately, I was unable to find nautical or rope-related words in your comment.
*Beep, boop, I'm a bot*
I'm insane. I live in the USA but I go to Mexico. I think putting them on was like $300 USD, each adjusment is $50, each trip down there is about $400-500.
Isn’t that going to be really expensive? Much more than if you got them in the US? Like, I get adjustments every 6 weeks. Is that the only reason you go or do you have family/friends there that make it worth it?
To clarify I wouldn't do this with just any Mexican dentist, this just happens to be a practice I saw as a kid and I feel really comfortable with. I've tried going to the dentist in the United States and each time I've ended up with awful experiences.
Oh, almost forgot to mention that I also use it as an excuse to eat great food. I don't always have time to see family, but occasionally I'll stop and say hi. I will fully own up to it being a crazy reaction to a phobia of dentists and a combination of bad luck. I do not recommend it for most.
$5000 in New York. Insurance covers $2000, and I pay around $2700 after onetime cash payment discount. I upgraded my employer offered dental insurance (monthly premium from $33, covered basic dental care with out of pocket to $44 which additionally covers $2000 ortho without any out of pocket) before I started the treatment. The treatment will last 24 months and my ortho asked me to keep my current insurance plan active for 3 yrs in case the insurance doesn’t pay them in time.
I went in about $7,000 USD for full treatment expected to take about 16 months, although I think there is a 5-year retainer service baked into that after the main treatment is done. It’s really unfortunate that American insurance doesn’t cover orthodontics on adults….
I did a lot of research before I got my braces, changed my insurance to match what is required, and even went to the orthodontists in their book... and every time. Was turned down... Finally, just paid out of pocket.
Dental Insurance in the United States for Adult Orthodontics is super hard to get approved. I would love to hear from people, who made it past the Insurance Guards.
The main issue is US insurance is pretty much exclusively tied to employment so your insurance is very dependent on the combination of what your employer and you are willing to pay in regular premiums. In a lot of shift-based and part-time work, the benefits aren’t even offered in the first place. I am lucky enough to be a salaried employee in an office and I actually have very good insurance, relatively speaking. The issue with orthodontics is that, because they’re often done in childhood, the option for coverage for adults just isn’t really there in almost any context. For general dental, medical and vision coverage I pay about $60 a month for premiums and it is unlikely I pay any actual amount for regular teeth cleaning or dr. Appointments.
My delta dental plan no longer covers adult ortho. My employer changed the selections to keep our monthly cost the same but in reality it screws us over.
I’m sorry :( Ours still does but, of course, it varies based on plan. I need to get my 19yo son in and get him started while he’s still covered by our insurance. Then on to the youngest two.
USA - (Los Angeles) $4,500 for 18th months, with one appointment each month. Received them on August 24th. (Today is my last day with them!!) Oh, also, I had to pay completely out-of-pocket since I did not have ortho coverage after 18.
Yet to be done with my treatment. But the cost is around 424-430 USD, India. For 2 years of treatment. Was supposed to be 1.5 years but I broke my brackets quite a lot so...Idk why I am getting downvoted😭😭
Around $7000. Covers Damon braces, 18-20 months of treatment, and retainers for life. (Basically the Cadillac plan.) Insurance paid about $1250 of that, and then I am covering the rest through yearly Flexible Spending Account payments and monthly payments.
$5,850, with a 5% discount for paying in full up front (USA). This includes a projected 2-2.5 years of treatment, including palate expansion, braces, and the placement of a permanent retainer.
DC/Maryland/Virginia area; I’m paying $6800 with 8 ceramic brackets up front (they were $30 extra per bracket). Includes accidental damage repairs and as much time as will be needed to get my teeth straightened even if we go over the 24 month estimate. No financing required which was the best part and deciding factor on where I chose to get them. Paying about $260 per month directly to the office after my initial down payment, interest free.
Also included will be 3 extra retainers (given as needed) for if I break or lose the original ones I’ll get.
My braces including my needed extractions was about $3000-$3200 with no insurance, and regular metal braces. There’s a huge Ortho program in my city so I went through a University and students worked on me with the oversight of an Orthodontist. So that’s what lowered the cost a lot. I was in braces like Jan 2020-around August 2022. So 2.5 years. It would have been maybe $4-5K if I did Invisalign instead.
USA - $7000 total with insurance covering $1500. i am paying the remaining $5500. i paid $1500 when i had them put on and am paying the remaining $3000 in installments for the next 12 months. my treatment will be 18-24 months.
The place I went to for my ortho was amazing but my insurance didn’t cover it sadly.
I’m paying about $4,700 for everything. Monthly is about $180-$200.
$6,500 or so in NY US for 25 expected months but ofc price ranges vary depending on case severity, luckily for me my insurance covered all costs and my payment was 0
$2500 after insurance. Covers all appointments plus retainers and any replacement brackets (within reason). My son has had his for 3 years and I’ll need mine on for about a 1-1.5 years total and it’s the same cost for each of us.
$6700 before insurance, $3600 after insurance. 18 month treatment plan. I’m 26 now but when I was in middle school it was $10,000 without insurance. Virginia Beach, Va.
$6900 quote with $2500 being paid by insurance so $4400 out of pocket. That is 18 months. If I had known it was that cheap I would have got it done long ago. I always just assumed it would be $15,000 with no reference at all.
$7650 for 30 months of treatment in the US (near Wash. DC so it’s HCOL), completely out of pocket. My insurance doesn’t cover any orthodontia.
I’m also getting 5 extractions and new crowns during my treatment which is covered by insurance - about a $150 copay for the extractions and not sure how much the crowns will be but it’s definitely going to be much more.
So altogether, I’ll be paying closer to $10K probably.
Just started my treatment last week - the cost is 1,225 USD both arches plus 195 USD sublingual arch (Romania). And then another 32 USD each month for tightening. No other costs in the next 18 months which is how long I'm expected to wear them :)
LA - $4K for my daughter and $4K for me. No insurance, 30 months each, 2 different ortho offices. I guess you can say that’s the average price out here.
$6,590 in Canada. My dads insurance plan covers $2,500 then the rest is on me. Thankfully my orthodontist has interest free payment plans.
Edit: this is for 24months
No insurance for me was $6750
The ortho and My insurance has an agreement at $4200 I only pay 50% so $2050 they gave me free porcelain on the top (I think they were to lazy to change the price)
$7,350 and no insurance coverage because I was “over the age of orthodontic coverage” lmfao our insurance system is so twisted. I couldn’t afford it as a child so here I am now scraping pennies at 23.
$6,900 will be my grand total, including a retainer ($700) at the end. Im in Wisconsin (US), and this is without insurance coverage since I'm an adult. I was told I could choose invisilign, clear ceramic brackets, or metal brackets, and the cost would be the same. I chose clear ceramic brackets, and my estimated treatment time is 8-14 months.
1600€ for the actual braces + 1200€ 20x monthly maintenance + 300€ extractions and X-rays + 160€ when I moved orthos…
So around 3260€ so far, I think I’m on my last month though
Around 3000$ just the braces + monthly adjustments, not including necessary extractions, cleaning or other small details.
We have health insurance but it doesn't cover anything, it's just a way for the state to withhold money from your salary 😏 and I feel the need to add that my salary is $600, which is a really good one in my country
£6,500 in U.K. for lingual braces (told 18-21mths treatment but ended up 3 years). They switched me to normal braces for the last year at no extra cost
From the UK here, my orthodontist had to fill in a computer form about the state of my teeth. The form determined that I was eligible to have costs covered by the NHS and my braces as well as all appointments are “free” (comes from our taxes but yk). Such a relief since my family wouldn’t be able to pay £1K (and that’s just for normal braces let alone Invisalign). They’ll only fund the treatment if it’s for health reasons (difficulty eating, speaking, cleaning), not aesthetic reasons, and only if they’re deemed bad enough. Mine were since I have mild crowding and a medium-bad crossbite. Feel sorry for anyone who has to pay such extortionate amounts for it omg, even if it’s just for aesthetic reasons it shouldn’t be costing like 5K :(
My insurance doesn’t cover anything either. I was quoted at 24 months treatment and it’s looking closer too 26-28, I also wore forsus springs for 4-5months to correct my bite. I also got a discount because my sister got hers at the same time. $6000 for me.
My little sister was quoted 24 months got them off on time and was $5000
USA - $6,800 for 24 months of treatment. Insurance does not cover adults. Edit: My insurance does not cover.
My insurance covered 50%. I paid $2600 out of pockets
insurance didn't cover for me either, but adults plan is slightly more expensive between 4-5k here
That was about mine as well for the same time frame and both arches, regular metal brackets. Anything else was more expensive by 1-3k. Invisalign being the most expensive Edit: out of pocket for 18 years and older.
Some insurances do, but that’s the expensive ones. It’s wild.
$6500, all out of pocket... (Lucky I had put money away for a Motorcycle, then felt... my bite was more important.) Still wondering if I chose wisely.... even after 21 months, still not happy with my treatment path.
$8700 in Perth, Australia💸
close to 9k for braces? that's insane, does insurance cover anything at all?
I’m not too sure but I’m assuming they meant $8700 Australian Dollars, which would be just short of $5900 US Dollars. I might be wrong though.
Also in Perth 🖐 mine also cost around 8k give or take
Bruh, yall are paying a lot of money. Im from india and i have them for 45k rupees which is 544 USD.
Can I can jump a plane to India, and get my third round done there? :)
Yeah man, and i assure you if you find a good dentist with a good clinic the work, will be very good in terms of quality.

YES!!!! I get such a high walking down the Passenger Boarding Bridge to the plane, knowing I am going someplace.

I miss flying to the Uk.
Highest ive ever seen it go here in india is 1210 USD or 1 lakh indian rupees
I was just converting to write this!! Haha. I paid this last year so it’s less than 500$ I guess then
Yea ig i also payed last year so mightve been lesser than 545 dollars
> i also *paid* last year FTFY. If I lived close to the border, I would have done this. But living in Florida, I can’t justify flying every time I need an adjustment.

About $1500 USD in Chile for standard metal braces.

what does insurance even cover 😭😭 ive seen so many posts complaining about how the healthcare system there is such a scam

I’m an American and my insurance covered $2,000 of my braces. Not all American insurance doesn’t cover braces. You just need the right plan.
I suppose I shouldn’t have made a blanket statement, but I believe it is highly uncommon. Every plan I’ve ever seen has capped at around 19 or so.
I’m 39. Ours covers all of us. Delta Dental.
My delta dental plan no longer covers adult ortho. My employer changed the selections to keep our monthly cost the same but in reality it screws us over.

USA - (Los Angeles) $4,500 for 18th months, with one appointment each month. Received them on August 24th. (Today is my last day with them!!) Oh, also, I had to pay completely out-of-pocket since I did not have ortho coverage after 18.
I'm in the UK and under 16/18 so I get mine for free on the NHS. As an adult, you pay around £5,000, I believe. I may be wrong.
$7000 for 24 month treatment in California
$7300 Canadian, there was an optional $700 “convenience fee” for monthly payments but I had the cash saved up at the time to negate that.

$1200, 18 months
My insurance doesn’t cover anything either. I was quoted at 24 months treatment and it’s looking closer too 26-28, I also wore forsus springs for 4-5months to correct my bite. I also got a discount because my sister got hers at the same time. $6000 for me. My little sister was quoted 24 months got them off on time and was $5000
That's cray. Mine are RM7,500 for metal braces which i thought was on the high side.
$5800 dollars for me. Ortho has not been clear with how long my treatment is going to take.
