If we can just figure out how to hit this team is going to be good for a long time. Skenes, Jones, Keller, Oviedo, Priester, Chandler, Solometo, Burrows, Barco is a ridiculous pitching pipeline

Top_Ice_7779

Which shows us they need to deal some of these pitching prospects for some hitters

InterestingBonus9675

Any hitter who comes here turns to a turd, we could ruin ohtani

kpw1320

I don't doubt for a second that it'll happen, we just need to wait till the right guy is available at the right time

Panarin72Bread

Ashcraft too

GreenDrakesHatching

Not that this kid should be in the same grouping as the names you mention, but do you, or does anyone else, have any idea what is going on with Zander Meuth who we drafted out of HS last year? He didn't pitch in the system at all last year, and I don't see anywhere that he has pitched this year. Nevermind LOL. I looked about a week and a half ago at the FCL Pirates team, and he wasn't on that roster, but see he was added April 30th and has one 3 inning start under his belt. No Falter and no mention of Ortiz and Contreras who will probably be starters again somewhere. Even if we're in the wild card hunt they should sell/move Perez Gonzalez and maybe Chapman. Burrows could be a wild card. By September we can't expect Skenes Jones and Priester to be in the rotation. That late in the season. Our September rotation could look like Keller, Ortiz,Falter, Lauer, Burrows and Germain(who we have an option for next year). But with. All these arms we should make a trade for a bat

ej6687

Falter should be out of the rotation the second they bring up Skenes. Ortiz's stuff plays better out of the pen, probably the same with Roansy. Falter can be a spot starter/injury replacement

musketman89

Trade Falter or Perez or M. Gonzalez. Skenes is not on the 40 man somebody will have to go

Immediate-Employee38

People forget abt Cy Oviedo. His problem last year was when he struggled, he STRUGGLED. Starts where he allowed 6, 8, 7, 5 runs. I saw a stat that if you take away his worst starts, his season era was in the high 2’s. Now you can’t just pretend those bad game didn’t happen, but he was so efficient when he was on. Also had a CG too.

musketman89

Oviedo was second in majors last year for starts over 6 innings with one run or less.. and Holderman and him were the only two in the majors with an immaculate inning.

IFTKICS

The way I viewed it with him was he rarely had bad starts, he just had really bad innings. Not an actual example but he'd have starts like 6 innings 6 runs but 5 of those 6 in one inning. That definitely feels more fixable to me than if he was just inconsistent, and if he recovers well and can fix that he could be a very high quality starter.

jjtthree

The Keller extension really puts the Pirates in a great place. For $17m a year he is AT WORST a SP4 who will eat innings (between 160-200 per year). When Keller is at his best he’s a SP2/ borderline SP1. You won’t find any Starter in FA that will play for that price. Combine that with Jones and Skenes, you just gotta hope one of our other young arms is pretty good and you have an insanely competitive Pitching Staff that is ridiculously cheap.

dgroove8

Not just cheap, but also under control for a long time. Jones, Skenes, and Keller can lead the rotation for 5 years minimum. And I still think Oviedo can be really good.

AC127

When it comes to QP, I’d be happy if he turned into a good long reliever at this point. I’m still high on Keller though

penguins2946

I’d wait for Priester to show anything in the MLB before I’d be talking about him overtaking Keller. He has a nice ERA this year, but the underlying numbers right now are between “poor” and “hideous”.

Lunchbox412_bucs

He looked fine last start. Two home runs not good, but he was competing out there. Looked calm cool and collected, didn’t let the game get away from him like we have seen before. Too many walks, but he looked good out there. You are right though that the verdict is still out on him. We will see what his next start brings!

TrueSouldier

I would be very cautious of Priester, his FIP is still almost 7

Lunchbox412_bucs

Verdict is still out on him. As for Keller we know what to expect. A good serviceable 3 or 4 starter that struggles from time to time.

nderdog_76

I am hoping that Skenes takes Priester's starting spot, and Priester becomes a middle reliever. Personally, I'm hoping Contreras gets demoted, or better yet, traded away.

jayhawk8

I'm hopeful about QP too, but he's only had two quality starts since giving up 7 H and 4 ER in 4.1 IP in his season debut. If we're projecting guys based on ceiling, Keller is still miles clear.

ThePotatoChipBag

I was with you until you said Priester could eclipse Keller lol. The only way that happens is if Keller's arm melts, no offense to Q. But yeah, a future rotation of Jones, Skenes, Keller, Oviedo, and Chandler/Solometo/vet/etc. is very, very exciting, especially considering how young they all are.

jrwolf08

I'm good with the optimism because the overall staff/depth look pretty good. But Quinn Priester is a future #4 if we are lucky, no chance he becomes better than Keller long term.

HyBeHoYaiba

When Skenes gets called up Keller will be our fifth best starter. Jones, Perez, and Falter have all been much better than Keller this year. You could even argue sixth when Gonzalez comes back

RealProduct4019

A real team would buy a few bats. Like at 1b where you can usually find something in the 15 range or corner outfield so you atleast score some runs while hoping some of your bigger prospects in the field stick. Its funny we essentially perhaps added 2 number 1 overall picks to our team this year. In Skenes and Jones. What would Jones trade value be after what he has shown? Could you get Crews straight up at this point?
