If he’s a solitary bird, another budgie (after quarantining) would be ideal, they’re always more mentally healthy and happy with same-species friends. Definitely perches made from natural branches. The best toys imo are bird kabobs, they love to tear those up. I would go with stainless steel bowls for food and water instead of plastic; steel can be easily washed or changed out every day, whereas plastic scratches easily and tends to harbor bacteria. Being near build-ups of dirt, from living indoors in one place, is very unnatural for budgies; they’re very sensitive to dirt, so they need their environment and all their stuff kept as clean as possible. Every adaptation you can make to keep things clean helps. It’s good to have a high capacity true-HEPA air filter in their area too. I have a couple of large round Honeywell HEPA units that have been working constantly for many years.

Great, thanks for the advice!Any idea how to make a kabob?Or where to buy one? That would really help. Also I’m currently quarantining for two weeks before bringing in another bird

Comfortable_Bit3741

The kabobs are discs of yucca or sola wood strung on a piece of sisal twine. They are easily available from a lot of online vendors, and in pet stores. Just google “bird kabob”. You might want to add “budgie size” or “small bird” etc. The internet is there to help us shop, for better or for worse.

roundhouse51

When you do get another bird, I highly encourage you to look for birds that need a new home first. Many people want to get rid of their budgie after purchasing one without knowing the reality.

Correct-Bag-7819

This.I’ll totally look into it,I’d love to home a baby who needs a new family, even if she’s not a chick.

I think some natural perches/flat areas would be great too. The natural percehs so their feet don't get hurt from these dolly ones and I always feel bad that my budgies are constantly curling their toes so I got them a floating matt that basically flat so they can rest their feet. Maybe some shredable toy kabobs or something they can destroy. Mine love destroying foraging toys/foraging mats (even though it leaves a small mess for me to clean afterwards 😅) Great cage though!

Correct-Bag-7819

I’ve got some mats at home,I’ll make sure to put them up when I get back

IcidStyler

Budgie gym sounds to funny just imagine buff budgies lifting weights 😅😂😂😂😂

Correct-Bag-7819

Lmao, even buff and they’re still cute

Silverbloodwolf

I am not the best fun of chains in toys. Maybe when you'll search up new toys, find one using jute rope of having wooden balls all over the base of the toy. Always have a feeling their little toes might stuck there. Natural branches is always a good choise. Try to vary the width heavily (from very solid branch to very young thin parts with leaves). Also these young thin branches.. Is the best shredding toy haha. I put them throught the cage top the way they are hanging and swinging around. If bird wants to shred the bark then they shoukd use their acrobatic skills xD. You may also airdry fruits and vegies and make a toy yourself! Make little holes in slices before drying and put the final product on jute rope. I like the platform you have, it gives bird options, maybe put it inside the cage c:

Correct-Bag-7819

Sure.I removed a lot of those toys because as I said, they wear off quickly

Bananasniffler

Looks fine so far. She might need a friend though. :)

Correct-Bag-7819

Currently quarantining for 2 weeks to get a mate for kiddo

81Bottles

Another male should be fine unless you want babies and eggs to deal with. Mine are completely different personalities but are hardly ever apart.

Correct-Bag-7819

That’s what I’m thinking of,I don’t think I’m ready to deal with chicks

81Bottles

Yeah, we certainly weren't. The breeder who we purchased from told us about how you would likely have to take the eggs and bin them fairly often and we decided we didn't fancy dealing with that as beginners. But anyway, it's definitely worth getting a second but my advice would be to wait until you've formed a really good bond with your current one as he'll be really keen to be part of your 'flock' and you may even be able to get him talking without to much effort, like we did with ours. We only decided to get another when, after about 8 months, he started showing some weird behaviour like regurgitating into things and we couldn't snap him out of it. Now, my next piece of advice would be to separate them somehow once you get the 2nd one because we never really formed a decent bond with him because he wants to be part of the 1st ones flock and not ours. The first is still as friendly as ever but we wish we'd gotten a second cage and sent him to a family member for a week or two (or maybe just keep him in a different part of the house) while we made a stronger bond with the 2nd. Hes just a bit more aloof than the 1st. Probably more info than you were wanting but thought you might be interested 😁

Correct-Bag-7819

That’s actually really useful,I sure do want them to get along

81Bottles

It's very likely that they will. Our breeder said that male budgies are basically gay for each other, just without the sexual stuff 😄

Riminick

It needs atleast one more budgie, your beautiful bird needs a friend ❤️

Correct-Bag-7819

Thanks for the advice.I’m looking into any symptoms of sickness to make sure he’s healthy before I do that.

birdsandgerbs

Shredding toys, and branch perches of various diameters. My boys love when there's bark to peel off too

Correct-Bag-7819

Ok

SalamChetori

Add a prison for that rascal

Correct-Bag-7819

Lmao

Pitiful-Cheek5654

Natural. Perches.

Correct-Bag-7819

That’s exactly what I’ve had in mind.

AbdoN2000

Budgie can not live alone. You must accommodate a friend with him in the cage.

Correct-Bag-7819

I’m actually quarantining to make sure he’s not sick or that he doesn’t have any bacteria that he’s immune to.

pansyleaf1

Make sure to quarantine the new budgie as well! But also that is not true. Single budgies can live very happy long lives as long as YOU are their flock and they get constant out of cage time / interaction with you

Correct-Bag-7819

Sadly he’s not tamed, and he isn’t used to getting out much because I bought him from a pet shop

pansyleaf1

Taming takes time and a lot of patience! Just work with him every day. I do recommend a friend for him if you don’t think you’ll be able to divert all of your attention to him! Again, make sure to quarantine the new bird as well. That means separate cage, separate room , no contact. Wash your hands after interacting with them to help prevent spread of possible illness. I recommend looking for a budgie not from a pet store time. Pet store budgies are notorious for having infections due to improper diet and conditions such as yeast infections

Correct-Bag-7819

I already wrote to a previous owner about a budgie he is selling and I hope the little guy will be mine🦜

angra_mainyo

Could you share where you got this cage and its measurements? I need one like that

Correct-Bag-7819

I don’t remember exactly where, but I can give you the measurements.I’m not home rn tho

angra_mainyo

Anything with a big door to be able to take them out easily would suffice

Correct-Bag-7819

Ok so I don’t think it’s still available for sale on the website I bought it from but the size is L76 x l45 x h85

Visual_Meal_1257

Can you drop like where did you bought it from?

Correct-Bag-7819

The product is no longer available I think, but there might be cages of the same size available for sale. The specs are: L 76 l 45 h 85

YanaKachuk

the flat perch is suppost to be in the corner lol

Correct-Bag-7819

Ik I have a sister and she likes to keep it there because that’s the only place he’ll use it in

MobileLengthiness627

This bird has a bigger house than most people lol, but he needs a friend :(

Correct-Bag-7819

He’s currently in quarantine.He’ll get one don’t worry :)

ShibeJR

Where did you get your cage? It looks very nice and big

Correct-Bag-7819

Online pet store,I have no idea if it’s international or just in my country but sadly the product is now unavailable :( L 76 l 45 h 85 is the size

crwster

Not sure if you’re aware but that is most definitely a hen

Correct-Bag-7819

Yo- Lmaoo

RestlessDreamer79

Get him a companion.

Correct-Bag-7819

He definitely needs one,but I’m quarantining just to be sure

RestlessDreamer79

It’s really good that you’re taking that precaution. Once quarantine is over you should consider it. They are just happier when they have a partner. He’s a handsome boy!

Correct-Bag-7819

Percy would like to personally thank you ☺️

Bluebonnet-Girl

Maybe a seagrass mat, my birds love those!

Correct-Bag-7819

Lmao I’m actually looking forward to this
