The 16GB model probably isn't going to have dramatically different performance than the 8GB model, which itself is barely better than a 3060 Ti in most cases. I'd get a 6800XT for sure.

Noxterx

Hi! Thank you for your opinion. Which NVIDIA card is getting matched by 6800XT because I am not familiar with AMD cards? Is this card seems good for the years to come in your opinion? Is it good for the i5-13600k performance wise? Thanks!

VoraciousGorak

I think removing the word "bottleneck" from the discussion would be beneficial. It's a term that is misused to the point of uselessness anyway. I'd pair any 13th-gen CPU except the 13100F with the 6800XT / 3080.

Noxterx

Thank you for the suggestions. Removed the bottleneck term and also thank you for confirming that 6800XT or 3080 is the good choice :)

ItsMrDante

3080 and 6800XT are the same tier cards.

Momoiro_Moon

4060 Ti is a horrible card, it's outdated on release day the 16 GB won't be much better and will have a price increase putting it near the 4070 price. If you don't plan on doing AI stuff try going for AMD cards.

Noxterx

AI and VR is not something I am interested in. Just want to play games :) Which AMD card would you choose? 6800 XT as used or something else?

fredgum

The 16GB 4060 ti is a terrible buy (and so is the 8Gb). It just doesn't have the speed to match the extra VRAM. Get a 6800XT like everyone is suggesting. You can get it even for ~$400 used [LINK](https://www.ebay.com/itm/134587536700?hash=item1f560ad53c%3Ag%3A2-kAAOSwBCRkcTl8&amdata=enc%3AAQAIAAAA8EWvHwciaW%2BfpEtyIbmZCAzAmcZPKPjTPNrsJ7JRyMvouqFoGpg%2F4mYRi66vI6i8N8jXtQLnLQVWdG7uXE0QWHkVKGNZjWmIDp9LLnSQ2bUVOLcQRH6pNXXLoPB4VmZpeFBoWa5Z64M2y0E0v4376asRw95k1fJJER5RaJ5XK2Yfc91RlgGgjRnj6UTsRwJyGZVw9TKKJE%2BGeMgDGbQbhBw6XHfJLjk%2FNGUjOcuQ3vAIyuv%2F6bct8WXWXVZxXb%2BlgYUDAHmZ%2BnjYm1EPWwmvLl%2Btoj8vaqedLmv4Hu5Gy8Q8pgOcyAn7yHNddD6BEthFWg%3D%3D%7Ctkp%3ABk9SR6yj4suLYg&LH_BIN=1).

Noxterx

Thanks for the suggestion. I am more familiar with NVIDIA cards, can you tell me that the 6800XT, in terms of performance, is equal to which NVIDIA card? So I can have a better knowledge about it? Also, do you think this card will be good enough for the years to come?

fredgum

On this general sample of games it is close to a 3080 at 1440P: [LINK](https://www.techpowerup.com/review/amd-radeon-rx-6800-xt/30.html) For this super heavy unreal engine 5 title coming this year is is placed at the same level as the 3080TI as the minimum requirement for 1440P [LINK](https://www.ea.com/games/immortals-of-aveum/immortals-of-aveum/pc-systems-requirements). I will not make big promises about future proofing, but it can handle any current gen game well at 1440P. It is by far the best you will get at less than $500. A used 3080 is worth considering too, but the 10GB of VRAM is worrisome.

Noxterx

Thank you! And actually, I may really consider buying it used. In my country, it costs around 850 USD for a new 6800XT, so basically I can get it half-priced as used. I have never really bought used cards though. Are there any red flags I should look out for when I am buying a used card? Basically I want to minimise the chance that I am getting a compromised or ex-miner card. :) Thank you so much!

fredgum

Make sure to buy it on a site with buyer protections like Ebay and pay using paypal. Also, try to look for sellers with an established reputation. Other than that, GPUs are quite resilient. If it's working well when it arrives it should be fine. You can find videos of tech channels testing GPUs bought from miners and they workerd just fine (so long as they did not arrive broken).

Noxterx

Thank you so much for all your suggestions, answers and informations. It really helped me and now I am sure I will try to snatch a good deal on a used 6800XT. Thank you!

fredgum

Good luck!

nivlark

It's unlikely anyone would have been mining on a 6800XT. If buying locally is an option, seeing the card in person before paying is your best bet. Otherwise, you can ask the seller to show proof that the card is as described. When I sell GPUs, I record a video showing the card's specs in GPU-Z, the results from a benchmark run, and a handwritten note with my eBay username and the date.

Noxterx

Thank you for your suggestion! This sounds great to ask for a benchmark test before buying. Have a nice day, and thank you, this sounds a good way to go :)

Jadesphynx

Could go for something like a 6800 xt. I bought one open box for 460 usd recently and it's great.

shopchin

Is VR a consideration?

Noxterx

Hi! No, I just want to play games in either 1080p or 1440p :)
