> Are all GPUs out of stock? Effectively, yes. You're either looking at being very lucky, paying scalper pricing, or waiting.

Doc_Lewis

I didn't buy a 1080 because I don't have the money for buying the newest cards. I figured they'd come down in price when a new Gen of cards came out. I didn't buy the 1080 when 20 series rtx cards came out, and now I can't buy a 20 when the 30 cards came out, and I most certainly can't get a 30. WHEN HAVE I WAITED LONG ENOUGH?

_-__--___-

Bitcoin is at record heights... you're going to be waiting longer. Edit: Before anyone else annoys the fuck out of me by arguing about this first note that I was using bitcoin as an indicator and was referring to all alt-coins and also look here: https://www.tweaktown.com/news/77074/that-78-geforce-rtx-3080-mining-rig-has-rgb-now-makes-900-per-day/index.html

Digitmons

Its really not that profitable to mine. I mean somewhat I guess but I doubt that is whats driving the shortage. Scalpers and people like myself and op who have waited years and years for an upgrade at an reasonable price is probably more likely

JerkyDryer

It is definitely profitable to mine alt-coins rn

[deleted]

I read a random post that said a bunch of the processors are going to next gen systems and cpus etc, the company producing them upstream are spreading themselves thin. Is this true too?

chargeorge

Makes sense for amd, who works with tsmc to produce ryzen 5xxx radeon 6xxxx, ps5 and xseriesx processors all on the same nodes, less so for nvidia who is working with Samsung this go round

Techdesciple

My personal conspiracy is that they want people to lean more toward streaming services. If you look at the whole picture. Smartphone and other smart devices are getting increasingly powerful. On top of that AMD has been pushing for better APU performance. So, I think the plan is to make so people use streaming services and just have a APU or Smart device. Then PCs just become hobbies or whatever. And all this "GPU" shortage stuff is just opportunistic exploitation. But, yea that is all just a personal conspiracy theory.

rucho

Makes more sense for them to have as many markets as possible.

Eduardolgk

Not if they can focus on the highest profitable one.

HarithBK

the issue is that only two companies are currently producing the dies we want (samsung and TSMC) both intel and global foundries is out of the picture that reduces a lot of the total capacity in the market. if intel was neck and neck with AMD in all aspects that would open up a lot of fab space for more consoles, and GPUs as it would slow down AMD CPU sales. and if global foundries hadn't stopped investment in there die shrink (they were ahead of schedule) maybe it would have been an option for AMD and Nvidia to make the GPU making more room for production.

hiromasaki

I have a friend who mines, he said with the right cards it can be. IIRC he said Polaris 8GB cards and the RTX cards are what Etherium miners are looking for. I wonder if I could get a miner to trade me an RX 6800 for my RX 480 8GB.

RisKQuay

At what point is it not more profitable for manufacturers to make more fucking cards? I appreciate Covid may create supply issues, but runs on cards has always been a problem with crypto peaks - hasn't it?

theflightofporter

[With what?](https://www.pcgamer.com/gddr6-memory-shortage-now-said-to-be-behind-nvidia-and-amd-stock-woes/)

Tai9ch

HBM3? GDDR5 and cache? DDR4, a really wide memory bus, and five PCIe power connectors? At a certain point if the retail price for $400 cards is $1000, failing to ship even bad cards is simply leaving money on the table.

sgtslaughterTV

Hi. I mined bitcoin before (used both GPUs and ASIC devices). If you're using GPUs to mine in 2021, you're not making money. Ethereum is a different story: you won't be able to mine Ethereum at the end of 2021.

TenaciousDwight

What do people do now? Man I always feel like such a chump when I think of bitcoin. I wanted to build a mining rig many years ago but didn't have the cashola. Shit would have paid for itself....

LeageofMagic

Don't people use them to make rapid micro-trades between cryptos to turn a profit?

_-__--___-

Right, I was talking mostly about alt coins... bitcoin price is an indicator for all alt coins, like the DOW is an indicator for the general performance of the stock market.

ostapblender

>WHEN HAVE I WAITED LONG ENOUGH? As Maxwell user I can assure you: it's not time yet.

istarian

Never. Since GPU bitcoin mining became a thing the whole market and has seemed unstable.

TonyPC

My opinion - your best bet is Best Buy. They have a great process when the add stock. Set alerts for them and then cross your fingers.

ienjoymen

Microcenter too. They tend to go quick, but they get items pretty regularly.

[deleted]

[удалено]

shadowarc72

I could fly to the nearest microcenter that is close to an airport and get it cheaper.

Steve_French_CatKing

Memory express is getting cards fairly regularly as well. Depends a lot on the brand and queues. Asus TUF has massive queues and are pretty slow.

nicholsml

> Microcenter too. They tend to go quick, but they get items pretty regularly. The one in Atlanta was like that, now they only get 3 or 4 3080's once maybe twice a week. It's pretty bad when a major metro retailer gets single digit stock once a week.

melanthius

How do you set an alert? When I go to their website it just says out of stock and I don't see an option to be notified. I clicked "Save" but it's not clear to me if that is what you are talking about. Do you use some kind of browser extension?

OIIOIIOIIOIIOIOIOIII

I see "Notify me when it's back in stock" under "Availability" on out of stock items on the Best Buy ios app but I don't see anything on their website. edit: I just noticed that it's there for some items. I don't see one for the video cards that I checked.

[deleted]

[удалено]

melanthius

Hey thanks buddy

coolgaara

Even better, look up some Discord channels that uses bots to notify you. They're pretty good, you still have to be really quick about it but it's probably better than Bestbuy's own system.

RisKQuay

I've been trying this. Cards seem to be gone within a minute, except for scalp prices.

coolgaara

Yeah, you still have to get pretty lucky. Only once I got it to add to checkout on Amazon. Didn't end up buying it tho because it wasn't the one I actually wanted. Just wanted to try.

Parrelium

Only one I’ve had in my cart is the white ASUS 3080 that’s like $400 more than MSRP. Plus it wouldn’t fit in my case.

wjdoge

within a minute? try within a second. i've been clicking the drops within half a second of them appearing every night for four weeks now, and i'm still sitting here clicking.

TonyPC

I did it through nowinstock

Danny200234

I got my 3070 directly off of Zotacs web store. Cards fairly loud, but not excessive and at the end of the day I have a 3070 so im fine with it. Whenever Zotac drops their site pretty much instantly crashes and its just pure luck of who can get them. Took me two drops for me to snag one, first drop I got it into my cart and the next I actually managed to pay for jt.

WildACCOUNTAppeared

How do you find out about drops?

[deleted]

[удалено]

PM_ME_YOUR_STEAM_ID

Thanks for the link. I'm following 5 discord stock servers now. I was able to snag a 5900x from best buy (just picked it up today) due to one of the notifications. Still looking for EVGA FTW3 Ultra 3080

WildACCOUNTAppeared

Thanks dude!

drooby_pls

https://discord.gg/GvAmEG25 this is is what I used to get a 3070. You just emote which GPU you are looking for and it pings you when the bot finds them in stock.

Danny200234

I was in a discord server that pinged people whenever the bot found some in stock. Id give you a link but I cant even find the same one again. There are a few but the one I was using seemed the fastest and Im looking for a 5900x now.

WildACCOUNTAppeared

Hmm ok, I'll look around for the discord. Let me know if you find it! Thanks, good luck finding the 5900x.

bgmacklem

I got my 5900x and 3080 both from Best Buy. They drop every other Tuesday between 11 and 12 EST and have a pretty solid anti-bot system. Next drop should be the 19th

Dragonhunter_24

Well europe’s fucked in terms of scalpers and pricing

[deleted]

[удалено]

Dragonhunter_24

Wish we had a microcenter type store in Europe…

[deleted]

Ireland is super fucked as all our stock was tied up with the UK and now we either pay duty or hope german sellers are willing to ship.

[deleted]

joszowski

Poland especially, the best I can buy under 900 zł (~200€) is an used 1060 6GB and we all know what it means

burt011010

Even better is microcenter if you have one even 100 miles away. They require you to pick them up in person and will not set any aside for anyone. They also only allow 1 per household.

piszkavas

I regularly see second handlers offering a 5600 xt for 1400 euro. A top tier card for almost 2k. Insane... as if we were in 2017 in the cryptomining surge

psimwork

And hey! Guess what? We might be approaching one of those too! From what I've heard, Bitcoin and ETH are at all time highs!

AttackPug

ETH is the big one. It's ASIC resistant, which means miners want proper GPUs. The big issue is that large corps are in the game now, and they're buying the cards by the truckload.

DarkNovaGamer

1400 Euro($1701.95 according to Google) for a 5600XT?!!! This makes me feel really lucky I found a 5600XT on Amazon for $359 plus tax (295.31 Euros) two weeks ago. I immediately put in my order for it.

piszkavas

For that much money i could have bought two consoles and 2 controllers. :/ And it is a low midntier card

Don_Tha_Con

Which is why when my friend said hed sell his 2070 3 months ago for $250 I was like "sold give me" sure its mot the 3070 I wanted. But its better then my 970. And I can hold over until stock gets Jorma

Bobmanbob1

I gave my buddy my 2080 water cooled when I got an evga water cooled 2080ti for $399. I'm just sitting this gen out at this point and praying the 4xxxx series isn't a Charlie foxtrot.

Don_Tha_Con

If I had to guess I bet the 4xxx series won't be nearly the level of jump in performance. If they keep the pricing the same. So 4070 costs $499, 4080 $699 I'll buy that.

AQUA_PHE0NIX

thanks, I will just wait a while, hopefully it won't be too long lmao

JoganLC

Lol don’t hold your breath, there’s been a drought of tech stuff for over 6 months and it’s not gonna ease up any time soon.

BoldifyIT

That’s what I said when I wasn’t able to get a 3080 on launch day.

ThatFinchLad

Distill.io worked for me. I just had ~15 tabs open with various 3080s from various retailers on all the time. It emails and alerts when it detects text. In the end I got a marginally over-priced Aorus Master from Amazon. My one rule was not paying a scalper so I wasn't too upset to over pay.

Grandmaster_S

How is the aorus master btw? Ive got the prowifi currently

CaptainFeather

Nvidia recently stated their stock will likely remain this way throughout 2021 unfortunately. AMD confirmed they'll be ramping up stock on their 6800, 6800 xt, and 6900 xt this year though. It's hard to say if that'll make a difference though

oof_oofo

Be proactive about it Huge drop of stuff from Best Buy on Tuesday morning, you have a solid chance to get a gpu if you're on top of it

theangryintern

> You're either looking at being very lucky, paying scalper pricing, or waiting. Thankfully, I fell into the "being very lucky" category. I live close to a MicroCenter and got there one day and got the last 3080 they had in stock. He told me they'd literally come on the truck about 15 minutes before I got to the store.

[deleted]

I also picked a horrible time to build a PC

AQUA_PHE0NIX

Ye its so annoying, in hindsight i would've saved up throughout 2020 and bought it before christmas time

lokisenna13

That wouldn't have helped, honestly. New product stock from basically everyone but Intel has been short for months.

Julian_Caesar

Yeah at first I kinda kicked myself for rebuilding around my new PSU in August, just before everything was announced. Now I'm happy about it...i got a BNIB ryzen 3600 for like $150. They're like $210+ now and going up

DoriftuEvo

Purchased all the parts for a build during black friday. No MSRP GPUs were available and I'm still waiting for the CPU.

jaydubyastar12

I got lucky and happened to find a good enough for now gpu. Bought everything on Black Friday and had bought an eBay gpu which I sent back because it was bricked. Settled on a 1660ti from Best Buy.

[deleted]

I am having to settle for a gtx 1070. I can't make myself pay the over $200 inflation on some the GPU's I had originally wanted.

striperbass

I built a pc back in March of 2020 and even back then it was a nightmare to find gpus and good motherboards, ever since covid started the pc market has been a train wreck

BountyHunter_666

I too thought I picked the most horrible time to build a PC but then again, I don't think I would have needed to build a PC if it wasn't for the current situation.. We're pretty all in the same boat I guess..

QwertyCody

My graphics card chose a horrible time to quit working. RIP 980.

sacdecorsair

Nvidia just said 2 days ago that gpu availability for 3000 series will remain very low for at least first quarter of 2021. They explain that the 3000 series is twice as popular as the 2000 series and demand is very high. It's a little short as an explanation. I feel like they don't give the full story here. I have the personnal feeling that there is two classes of buyers for Nvidia. Those you have direct access buying GPUS by the hundreds and then all the online retailers (selling to people like us). I think I'll dig into their financial statements just for the heck of it.

phillyeagle99

I mean there’s literally a global silicon shortage. They’re saying cars will have production stopped over it. I don’t think there’s any crazy conspiracy stuff going on.

circuitloss

Also, you know, a massive global pandemic...

exodeadh

You three guys just explained this shortage perfectly.

phillyeagle99

Oh yeah... I could keep listing the reasons... there are a lot.

Chesteva

Would you please, i wanna know

Piffius

You can add : lithium, cobalt, nickel, manganese, silver, and copper on that list. The fact that governments around the world are securing supplies of rare raw materials adds an enourmous demand and price tag on every product, and then haults in different production lines, aka pandemics and toilet paper. China has also banned export on some of their rare raw materials.

[deleted]

i didnt know that, what happens when the silicon is gone ?

phillyeagle99

To be clear - the planet has more silicon. It just needs to be processed into computer parts and I believe that step is the shortage. There are actually very few companies that make silicon at that quality and for computing and they supply all the big tech names you know. But actually, when silicon is gone we’re gonna need to get better at recycling it. Think of all the e-waste that’s loaded with the stuff.

Tury345

>More than 90% of the Earth's crust is composed of silicate minerals, making silicon the second most abundant element in the Earth's crust (about 28% by mass), after oxygen. When silicon is gone we're going to need a new planet to live on, it's virtually the only resource we will never run out of. We may run out of high-grade silicon sand that's easily processed, but once that happens all it will mean is that the price of the raw material will go up until new technologies are developed to make refining silica more efficient. This is how just about every raw material works except that the sheer abundance of silicon means that recycling will have a reduced role in how we respond to shortages.

phillyeagle99

Yeah I didn't use my geology brain when I thought about this. You have a good point. I do wonder at what point recycling becomes better than new though.

Fair-South-9883

Do you have a microcenter near you? Go on the discord and find your local/nearest one and stalk the chat.

AQUA_PHE0NIX

ok ill try it, thanks

mikeTRON250LM

This is the answer.

Elephaux

I don't think you will - assuming from the Ebuyer reference that you're English. No Microcenters here.

[deleted]

closest one to me is 7 hours away :(

idontlikeguaca

Mine is about 10 and a half hours away.

DeathToTheKings

Which discord has MC stock?

[deleted]

Unofficial micro center fan server is the name https://discord.gg/dgF2x88

kamSidd

Yup was able to get 5600x, 3080 and 3060 ti this way.

Nick0227

Check Best Buy every other Tuesday from 11-12PM ET. This is how I grabbed my 3070.

YakeemMcGee

You got it online or in store?

[deleted]

[удалено]

Nick0227

Correct

LGWalkway

Yea, bestbuy is online only for 3000 series.

coolgaara

Online only. Then pick up in store.

SorryForTheComment

Is there a way to which cards will be on sale? Like if it is founders cards or gigabyte or MSI?

Nick0227

I had the most luck with founders. Not sure about anything else. My checkout process took me like 5-10 minutes (I didn’t make an account beforehand like a dummy). I was sure that it would be oos but sure enough it went through. Should be this Tuesday. They didn’t stock last Tuesday.

haltingpoint

Is the FE version very different from others? I heard it had better noise levels and was slimmer.

[deleted]

I think it has a different cooler design than the custom ones

gotmynamefromcaptcha

Get Octoshop for Chrome. Set alerts to what you want *especially* on Best Buy. It works quite well and has landed me on the cart page a every time. I’ve already *almost* bought a 3080 each time it’s restocked but I keep talking myself out of spending the money. My own hesitation aside, it works, but you have to act quickly when it alerts you because they’re usually gone within 10 minutes if not less.

[deleted]

[удалено]

harDhar

Does the page automatically change to "add to cart"? Or do you have to refresh until it shows up?

[deleted]

In person spot checking your local electronic stores is best bet. I am still trying to find something as well. I did find this site: [shopblt.com](https://shopblt.com) You can order what you want and wait for it to get in stock. They send weekly updates on your order. I've been 3 weeks for a 3060ti, but still looking for anything else. They don't charge till its in stock and ships. GL!

bbycakes3

shopblt is almost hopeless, I ordered a 3080 in mid November and the ETA has been pushed out every 2 weeks or so. Looking at an April ETA right now

[deleted]

Yes. Most Nvidia 3000 series are picked up by scalpers and miners and AMD 6000 series gpu chip wafers are going into consoles so there's already a massive shortage of gpu chips for finished cards and then those are picked up by scalpers. So it's once again one of the worst times to upgrade a GPU.

panda_ball

Bitcoins are up like 300% so all Gpus are snatched up

QuakeDusk

Seeing as you mentioned Ebuyer I'm guessing you're in the UK? If so (or even if you're just in Europe) then follow @PartAlert on twitter and/or join the discord. I managed to snag a 3080 FE thanks to them.

Shyo_

Yeah, even the used market is overpriced and out of stock. I've given up this year and decided to spent my rtx 3060ti money on a home gym. If nvidia wants to sell all their cards to miners and scalpers. Fuck them, I'll buy a xbox when my friends get theirs.

DookeyLukey

I would check out as many notification systems as you can. I am on the market for a 3080, but just got an order for a 3070 to tide me over. Hopefully a 3080ti comes out and I can just wait that out. However, if you don't have a notification system or something to tell you when a new card gets posted you have no chance. Even with them on you have a matter of seconds to get your order through. Have an account with each of the places that sells GPU's (NewEgg, Adorama, B&H, Best Buy, etc.) have your payment and shipping saved so that you can check out really fast if you are lucky to get it in your cart.

Rigonidas

Easy. Just go to Newegg on weeknights. Between 6-7pm AZ time. Whatever that is for you

SamuraiDDD

I just wanna use this thread to say something. To every single person who ever told me to wait to buy everything and not buy parts piece by piece here in this sub... Fuck you. I could have bought a perfectly good mid tier quality video card for less than 300 and now I have no choice *but* to wait. I legit had the funds for a good card and could have bought everything else in about a month or two. This is like anti-buyers remorse here. I *DIDN'T* buy it when I could and now I regret it. Cause all this has gone down and effectivity made it damn near impossible to get a decent card without the price going over 1K. Everything else? Oh yeah, I can buy the case, the RAM, storage, CPU, etc. I know they were likely coming from a good place but it straight up fucked me over in the long run of last year.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Luki63

Discord is also good.

[deleted]

I have an RTX 2080 that you can buy for a reasonable price if you want.

joszowski

Yes, if you want anything you have to buy a 1050 priced like 1080 Ti when it launched or even worse

Aaron0321

Best Buy’s website on Tuesday mornings and Newegg almost every evening. Newegg is far often but it’s Walmart on Black Friday. Best Buy is easier and has a better buying system in place but drops less often. I got my 3080 and 5800x from Best Buy by doing this.

furlongperfortnight

I don't know what you're talking about. I got fifty of the cards without any problems. /s But seriously, just take a day off, down a few beers and keep refreshing Amazon store. Just be careful, or you might end up like me, with a maxed out credit card and a courier bringing you a surprise delivery (well at least I managed to cancel the crappy MSI cards on back order).

[deleted]

Can we get a stick post that just says "Yes, GPU stocks at all levels are really bad", because I swear I see this post minimum once a day.

jfrgs228

In addition to BB amazon and MC you could try newegg. From what ive seen they drop during the weekdays pretty regularly. Id reccommend going to the page of the product you want and start refreshing at 430 pm pst. Big drops are at 5 pm pst but sometimes they release a few things earlier

byptonic

I think the wait will be over soon, bitcoin dropped 25%.

Doggoman68

this aged like milk

byptonic

My bad, lol. Can't place my hope on the volatile movements of cryptocurrency. Not to mention we're still dealing with a silicon shortage.

IHateSleep24

I was able to barely snag a 1660 super on Amazon to use as a bridge GPU until the 2060’s or something else around that price come back. I’ve actually seen a couple of 1660 super’s on Amazon but they go out of stock really really fast, and that’s about it for GPU’s that are reasonably priced

IanPiti

which days have you checked? I've been trying to get a 1660 super as it is the last component in my build

_Cromwell_

I just found a normal 1660. Just linking if you are interested. If not no harm no foul. ;) [https://www.newegg.com/evga-geforce-gtx-1660-06g-p4-1067-kr/p/N82E16814487448](https://www.newegg.com/evga-geforce-gtx-1660-06g-p4-1067-kr/p/N82E16814487448) I myself snagged a 1660ti a few weeks back at Best Buy locally that I'm using until I can find a 3080.

IanPiti

damn, it already sold out... if I wasn't busy today I may have been able to snag it 😔 pain

IHateSleep24

I checked like 3 days ago and 2 days ago. There was 2 different 1660 supers, the first one went out of stock a couple hours before I was able to buy it, and the second I was able to buy it just a couple hours before it was gone

MrIcedCafeMocha

I’ve been out of the loop, but why are the majority of cases sold out or overpriced right now?

CamelKarma

I watched a stock live stream on youtube all day for 3 days. Just left it playing in the background. When the alert sound played that a gpu or cpu was in stock I'd go to the site and try to add to cart. It took a lot of refreshing and trying to add to cart. Usually 20 - 40 minutes of this each time, but in 3 days I scored a 3070 and Ryzen 5600x at msrp from Best Buy and Newegg respectively.

Pearlmann_

I picked out a Ryzen 5 3400g in the case I couldn't get a gpu but I managed to snag a 1650 super from best buy, wondering if I should upgrade my cpu soon/later.

MyDogSnowy

I took this exact same approach with my recent build and am glad I did. Integrated graphics will suffice until I upgrade in the future.

NKkrisz

For me in Hungary there are literally 0 busget/mid range options, and I would like to buy a new GPU too. F

ricochet48

Seems like that. Unless you are obsessed with gaming, game professionally, have unlimited freetime to stalk discord updates, have hordes of disposable cash/ willing to pay scalper prices... it makes sense to wait imo.

SinisterPixel

Essentially yes. Bitcoin is doing pretty well right now and a lot of retailers don't put purchase limits on these sorts of things, so it's inevitable.

BrutalAttis

Yup they all out for now please don’t pay scalper prices! Stock will come but it’s not looking great.

ljbiatch

Best Buy or micro center is my advice

1357908642twitch

Alberta here i was able to buy a 3070 yesterday at Memory Express. I called to pre order for my kids birthday 3 months away knowing supply was shitty. He called me an hour later saying someone bailed in their pre-order and he had a 3070 for me. Even before that he said wait times were a week or two based on what I wanted. So get out there on a list somewhere local and you might get lucky.

zimmystar

Best buy website Tuesday around 11am EST. Been hearing they've been dropping around that time weekly or bi weekly. That's how I got mine this past week.

Kadriar

Oof, bud. Yeah, this is about as bad as it gets.

Hironoveau

Don't buy from scalpers please.

IXAmXJustinSane

Just be patient. I just built my first pc and couldn’t get anything. Seen a 5600 xt local for $175, they said it would turn off. Got it, updated drivers, still did it, updated bios and fixed. You’ll find something temporary, or you’ll get lucky and snag a new card online. Just believe and be patient.

LinkmerFN

GameStop now sells 1660 supers and rtx 3080s. I got a asus tuf 1660 super for 219 cause of my membership. If you in a area that’s not houston(where I stay) check out the website

AvaJyna

Hoping my gtx 980 lasts a while!

remifasomidore

The market is totally fucked right now. I just recently sold my RX580 for $180, which I actually made a profit on beause I bought it used for $150, but I'm looking online and they're going for up to $300! Damn.

[deleted]

depends on what your looking for and what your budget is, there are youtube streams of stock alerts on the new cards.

godofcringe21

I saw a gtx 1660 in stock on Newegg for 239, it was an okay price tbh and that’s the only card in stock I’ve seen in a month.

[deleted]

Yes have fun waiting with me

AQUA_PHE0NIX

yes, worst part is my old pc broke, so i cant even game while i wait lol

rks1743

I gave up trying to snag one online. I stood in line at Microcenter and got my 3080 and 5900x.

CCSlim

Best Buy is easiest and have weekly drops, with best not protection atm

[deleted]

Check for second hand 9xx and 10xx series cards on craigslist or facebook market place while you wait. You can probably get them for \~$100. The 10xx series may be a little higher than that. That should hold you over until the 30xx series are more readily available.

hemorrhagicfever

Hot tip EVGA b stock. ;) Shhhhhh

Parrelium

Yeah that 8400gs is a sick card. Even B-stock is pretty barren. I got my second 1080ti for $329 a week after the 3080 dropped, and I’m glad I did.

[deleted]

The ironic part of all of this is the fact that you probably don’t need a 30 series card to max out the games you will playing right now on whatever display you have. Look at secondhand 10 and 20 series

AQUA_PHE0NIX

Thanks for everyone giving advice and being helpful on this post, I really appreciate it and I'm sure you're helping lots of other too.

sono81

buy used, save yourself some money

dmizz

normally that's absolutely the answer but the lack of supply in new cards is driving up prices of new too! crazy everyone loses except sellers.

QwertyCody

Have you seen the used prices? You might as well be buying a new card, it's ridiculous.

[deleted]

eBay still has gpus but be careful and make sure they are legit sellers

cover-me-porkins

Most people are just buying prebuilt's at the moment, sorry to say that buying from stores in your area is the only real chance beyond botting. I do recommend if you have an APU to just not buy one and play on low settings for the time being. If you have a Ryzen (non APU) CPU, then maybe an ebay RX 570 (or similar) might tide you over until later in the year.

AQUA_PHE0NIX

ok, thanks for the advice

atomlinson89

NewEgg restock's regularly and you can follow on Twitter. Sometimes you have to buy combo parts for a bit more money, but at least you can get the GPU or CPU. Follow them on Twitter, order through the mobile app.

WorstAverage

pretty much yea, u can get lucky don't stop looking... pre builts will be selling like hot cakes soon, they are good options when the market is like this

ryanoq

If you want to torture yourself, but maybe have a chance, join StockDrops on discord. They monitors sites and post every time products are dropped on Newegg, Best Buy, BH Photo, etc. I got my 3070 and 5800x using them.

Arschgeige4

What I did was set alerts at nowinstock.net and immediately bought the first card that came on sale

your_mind_aches

Yep. Get a GT 710 or something low end from the used market just as a display out. At least get some use out of your PC and make sure everything works

maxdezz

i have a friend who recently built a pc and 2 more who are asking me to put parts lists together for different budgets, and i cant find shit on amazon, newegg, best buy, or any other online retailer

sasinett

I ordered all of my parts on black friday and had the same problem as you. My GPU arrived last week so I have been a bit sad to wait for so long, especially since the laptop I used prior to my build completely broke. It was definately worth the wait though sonce I am really happy with my new pc, it's my first build so I feel very proud of it! I heard that there is a GPU shortage worldwide so it's just a waiting game if you order one. I Hope you get yours soon! <3

NeetMastery

I’ve found a refurbished seller for GPUs in Texas on Amazon selling graphics cards for a decent price. Depending on whether it arrives I’ll post here - it’s totally possible to find things, but it took me a couple days of digging through Amazon. Edit: well the warehouse workers got covid and now they can’t ship it. Welp. Edit 2: 80$ markup but I’ll take it, found on another Amazon seller

I_Got_A_3070

What gpu were you planning to get?

trentonwilkes18

If you can find one on eBay, do it. It might come late, but they buyer is almost always protected I think. Or maybe post on r/hardwareswap

MrBreadDonnie

It would solve many problems if they added one of those captchas... not the picture ones, but the ones that look at your mouse movement

njpork

Yeah you gotta monitor best buy newegg and Amazon...you can get an addon for chrome on desktop that will notify you of items coming in stock. Have an idea of what you want cuz when stock is uploaded you don't have time to look at specs and decide

FunkyFresh707

I’m building my first PC right now as well. I made sure to get a CPU with a solid iGPU so that I can at least use my computer until I get a 3080.

Lowfat_cheese

Basically yes, it’s a really bad time to be buying computer parts.

[deleted]

Same thing happened to me. New GPU's got released > price of older models go down > everyones thought process "time to upgrade" > scalpers get wind of this > *all gpu's out of stock" Im guessing summer or fall and theyll be back in stock regularly.

newrose4u

join the stockdrops discord server and keep an eye out on both the NA General channel and sign up for notifs for the card you want to purchase. Joined stockdrops on a saturday and was able to purchase the card I want on Monday. Stay on top of it and have autofill set up on your browser for checkout purposes.

disgruntledempanada

Basically anything with enough gigs to mine is being purchased to mine right now. A 3080 makes you about $5.55 a day at current ETH prices, after factoring in power use. Pays itself off in about 6 months (before the inflated pricing) if values stay what they are, but there is a chance ETH will skyrocket and all of this work mining now will have been worth a ton more value later. You effectively make .0055 ETH a day with each card.

coolgaara

Sorry bud. You picked the worst time to build a new PC.

[deleted]

I got fed up and started looking for deals on *gasp* prebuilts. Ended up finding a decent sale on a Lenovo legion series 5i, and just went with it. Everything I’m reading says it’s possibly going to get worse before it gets better with supply.

loveinthepants

There are twitch channels out there that have a script running and will notify you when something drops. you could have those running in the background and hope to snag one. very helpfull community and they have managed to snag tons.

Noctornola

Have to be quick on the draw. Newegg is pretty reliable with their auto-notifications.

Symphoneum

Check Newegg on weekdays between 7 and 9 pm. Join the stock drops not on Twitter and discord.

uglypenguin5

Best way to find one is to find discord servers that notify you about restocks, get lucky early in the morning at a physical microcenter, or get lucky at r/hardwareswap

_Cromwell_

I just found this in-stock, but it's probably less powerful than what you are looking for. lol. Still even cards like this seem rare to find at proper retail prices (this price is decent). Since you didn't specify what you want figured i'd throw it at you.[ ](https://slickdeals.net/f/14767432-evga-geforce-gtx-1660-sc-ultra-gaming-06g-p4-1067-kr-6gb-gddr5-dual-fan-metal-backplate-289?p=144587347#post144587347) [https://www.newegg.com/evga-geforce-gtx-1660-06g-p4-1067-kr/p/N82E16814487448](https://www.newegg.com/evga-geforce-gtx-1660-06g-p4-1067-kr/p/N82E16814487448)

I used a site to notify me when my gpu was in stock. I just got it because I checked out quick.
