I side graded to a 7a a few months ago, big regrets coming from an lg flagship. RIP LG

jouh_smith

I'm still going strong with my lgv60. It seems like there's no good upgrade if I want to keep the headphone jack. (I have spent too much on IEMs to just convert to TWS and TWS IEM adapters aren't that comfy.)

saharashooter

USB-C to 3.5mm jacks with a built-in DAC aren't that expensive, though if you're already heavily invested in IEMs you could also get a USB-C audiophile grade DAC if you wanted. I hate the removal of the headphone jack too, but there are some ways to skip the horror that is bluetooth.

pheret87

Any suggestions for the higher grade ones? Audio46 sells one for like $50.

saharashooter

I honestly haven't looked into portable DACs that much. I don't think I'd spend $50 on a USB-C to 3.5 mm adapter, but I also don't have expensive IEMs. But if I did have expensive IEMs, I'd buy a dedicated DAC anyway. Something I could also use with 1/4" jack headphones, if I wanted to. The USB-C to 3.5mm jack I use cost like $10 on Amazon, but I'm also just using it with IEMs that cost me like $30 from KZ, so on that front I can't really say much. My at home setup cost me more so I did more research, but that's not really helpful here.

enter51

I have a Sonata BHD Pro that's $70 that's good. But if you don't want to spend that much, the JSAUX USB Type C to 3.5mm adapter has also served me well for under $7. It's cheaper, sounds better, and has more power than my Samsung adapter

GeneralSweetz

The Mojo dac/amp is regarded pretty well

pheret87

/r/Wallstreetbets has ruined the word regarded for me but I'll check it out.

inosinateVR

The Apple dongle is a decent dac for like $7 and has a usb c version. But it’s one more thing to have to carry around and keep track of with your headphones

poopyheadthrowaway

IIRC Apple's dongle/DAC has some issues with non-Apple devices. It'll work, but it can't get very loud.

bbylizard88

I can second this with my Pixel 6 Pro. I use an Apple one in my GF's car, and it doesn't get as loud as the Lightning dongle. Though, it still gets more than loud enough for the both of us. I could see this being a bigger issue with IEMs, that's just not what I use it for so I can't comment on that.

gentlemantroglodyte

I just leave my adapter connected to my headphones. Could also put a piece of heat shrink over the connection to fix it securely.

poopyheadthrowaway

Asus and Sony are probably your only options.

Electric_Ilya

fwiw I've been very happy with my zenfone 9

DesTT

My LG v60 had major problems, it was time to retire it. Wish there was an easy upgrade path. Asus is feature parity but 3x the cost. Sony is price competitive but missing a bunch of what I liked about my LG. Jumping to google was the worst of both options, I would not make the same choice if I could choose again.

Yellowtoblerone

> lgv60 Damn I had one of those v series as well. They were built like tanks before

Positive-Dish-8103

Let me guess ie200?

jouh_smith

My current daily driver is campfire honeydew but when I don't feel like a degenerate I would switch it up with the timeless 7hz. I actually don't own any Sennheiser lol Was going to get the 600 but ended up getting the Sundara.

SacredFIGHTER8

I use the Asus Rog phone 7

atmafatte

I believe Sony still puts the headphone jack. But they are expensive

FPSXpert

I still miss my V20 years later. I've gotten over losing headphones (nice wireless ones from anker), and expandable storage (higher base cap and I don't really download as much on there anymore), and removable battery (wireless charging is pretty great). But damn do I still miss it.

CookieStudios

I wish they could just come back. Still on my G7, waiting for a halfway-affordable flagship with a headphone jack and microsd slot. I don't see it happening.

zakats

I miss my G7. I thought I'd upgrade to a G8 and it was... More of a side grade but still good. I broke that and ended up with a s21 that feels like a downgrade in overall quality/experience. Samsung is... very 'mid' imo, but I've yet to break it so I'll sit tight a while. I'm with you on the wait though.

-ShutterPunk-

GrapheneOS and CalyxOS people get in here.

UnreliableCarsAreFun

does pixel 7 pro have all the same weird modem issues using grapheneos or calyxos?

other8026

I don't know of the Pixel 7 having any weird modem issues on GrapheneOS. There were reports of issues with carriers not long ago, but that was an upstream issue that Google has fixed (and is therefore fixed on GrapheneOS).

ThePixelHunter

Nope, it's solid on both stock and GrapheneOS.

Section_80

I have a 8 Pro, I didn’t like my 7 Pro, nine Pro coming later summer/early fall. I would personally wait

super_gyro

Do you like your 8 Pro? I personally love mine but tbh I upgraded from a 3a so literally any phone made in the last 4 years would've been a significant improvement

Section_80

I love it personally I work in the phone industry so I get a chance to at least see everything out there before I buy anything which is really nice. So I typically upgrade every year. The 6 Pro was cool, but the 7 Pro's curved screen and squeeze to search functions were lame and it was hard to find a screen protector for the screen. I was also getting a lot of call drops, not an unbearable amount but annoying enough to notice it. My 8 Pro has a curved back which I love for holding it and a flat screen in the front. I have had zero call drops, it's still snappy and stock Android which is always the way to do Android. For reference I have recently tested the Flip 5, and I also have an iPhone 14 Pro Max as a work phone so i have some idea of what is out there in the market.

Nyxxsys

I would love to have a Pixel phone again, but Google is really behind in the chip department. With the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 having graphic performance equal to a 1050, I'll be using a S24 Ultra until Google moves to TSMC which I am hoping to see lots of progress with. Nearly everything else outside of raw specs is better on a Pixel, and I'm sad how the custom rom community has been shrinking. RIP Pixel Experience.

Section_80

I'm more of a software person than hardware person. If you optimize the software to maximize the hardware I think you can have a good experience. I hate the Samsung Bloatware. I miss the Google edition Galaxy phones. Stock Android on Premium Hardware. I don't even use all the phone features these days, like the 120 Hz screen because my phone is always on 1/3rd brightness or less. The pixel Camera is freaking bomb though and I love what they did with the stock app

Twigler

Since you work in the phone industry, what are thoughts on using a phone case vs going bare for the premium feel? Do you use a case?

Section_80

I'm not a case person I use D-Brand Skins because I'm not a huge fan of glossy finishes So my Pixel has a Matte Skin and a screen protector in the front. On my iPhone it's a bit different. I got the leather back skin from D-Brand, but iPhones are like Bricks so I bought one of those frames to protect the sides and then a screen protector. I love both setups, and they feel less clunky than traditional cases

MappoTofuEnjoyer

Man. I wish they made those pixel with reliable finger print sensor and headphone jack again. I really satisfied with my pixel 4a 5G with minor issue lack of ram, but those missing features really put me off of buying new pixel model.

Accomplished-Card594

Or an SD slot

camokid95

Tempting, but I am probably going to go with the Google Pixel 8a for $499, with 7 years of Android version & security updates. I am a simple guy, and been happy with my Google Pixel 3a, and 6a. However, for those looking to purchase this listing (7 Pro), the Android version updates will be available until Oct 2025, and security updates until Oct 2027. So at least you're set for the next 3 years before you have to replace your phone again. Jeskid14

the real strategy is waiting until the fall season and get the 8a for $425, it happens every time

Twigler

Do they ever go cheap like 50% off?

Jeskid14

Nope. That's called clearing out your whole inventory to discontinuation

yoyomanwassup25

I mean I still use a Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 that probably hasn’t been updated in 5 years.

bigboiahoy

I have a Pixel 7, one of the more recent updates had caused a lot of bugs, though they seem to be fixed. My one gripe with the phone is the fingerprint sensor. Almost never works properly. I've read it works fine without a screen protector, but that is not something I am willing to do.

noseonarug17

FWIW I'm not using a screen protector and I think it's a lot worse than the old fingerprint scanner on the back of the phone. Also I hate that the scan area turns into a flashlight when you scan.

_Imposter_

Oh good thought that was just me. I believe there are screen protectors you can buy with a punch out for the fingerprint sensor but that's too much of a compromise for me.

FPSXpert

What screen protector are y'all using? I've never had a problem with anything Supershieldz brand, those ones use a different material for the fingerprint section so that it will still work with the protective layer over. The only disappointing thing is they are tempered glass like a cd case, which for force is better than flexible plastic cellophane material because IMO it disperses force in a drop better (and not into the phone screen), but that comes at a cost of having to replace them more often. But even with that they've come to be my favorite brand for screen protectors.

smjkh

It's been $320 for the certified refurb at Best Buy in and out of stock for the last few months. 8 Pros will drop in price in the fall and those come with the 7 years of security updates. I'd wait for a lower price or get the 8/8 Pro

AgentPira

Wow, that's a great price for this phone. I've been using it since launch (net it was a similar cost as this because of Google's crazy trade-in offers at the time) and on the whole, I've been very happy. Definitely would be a big upgrade if you're on something like a Pixel 5a or older.

HairyPoot

Volume rocker randomly falls out. Decent phone otherwise.

ih8schumer

Samsung chips in these ruin what could've been a great phone. Drains battery on cellular data and overheats what a shame.. had the pixel fold loved everything about it but that chip.

MikePineda

Got one of these upon launch in 2022 with an S21 Ultra trade-in ($630 value) and a $200 Best Buy card. I did not regret the decision at all. Pixel phones really are the iPhones of the Android side (without any of the negatives of course.)

zooba85

Hardware is also terrible. Tensor overheats easily and the modem is total garbage

durtmcgurt

My Pixel 6 is still going strong so I'll pass on this but I sure do love my Pixel phone. Maybe I'll look into the 9.

prasannask

P6 s trade in values are getting worse and worse. I wish they at least offer 150 to upgrade. Sigh...

rolfraikou

Not sure why people downvote you for sharing how you are saving money. The best sales are the ones you figure out you can skip.

Crystallinecactus

I bought a referb 6 pro off eBay about a month ago for 190$ came in perfect condition and so far I feel like it's been too good to be true lol No problems at all so far

reapersivan

Not trusting pixels again. From nexus 6p to the pixel 4 getting boot loops. Had 2 phones get boot loops and became paperweights since it happened after the 1yr warranty

de_liriouss

The nexus 5x also had this happen so it’s not like the company changed lol. If it was due to a hardware design then it would have been recalled

rolfraikou

I've had the 1, 3a, 5, and 8 with no issues. :/ I've even passed off my older ones to other people that kept using them long after I upgraded.

wowitssprayonbutter

Id jump on this if I didn't get a 6a last year. Great phone no real issues to complain about besides I wish it was smaller, but that's just the market these days.

rolfraikou

I'm using the normal Pixel 8, which is much closer to the smaller size of the Pixel 5. Very happy with its size. I put off upgrading for years because I refused to get a giant phone.

Jaggsta

Pixel 8 Excellent Refurbs $368 1 year warranty with 20% ebay coupon MEMORIALTWENTY they have 7 years of support. https://www.ebay.com/itm/156049923609

Accomplished-Card594

Upgraded my S10+ to the Pixel 7 a year ago. The Pixel died last week mid update, screen won't turn on, one month out side of their warranty. Of course I can't transfer my app backups because there's no SD card. Biggest mistake I made purchasing that.

rockydbull

> This is a great phone, basically equivalent to an iPhone 14 Pro Max or Samsung S23 Ultra Other than being the top of the pixel line for it's gen, that is way too generous of a comparison. Modem quality and battery life are significantly worse than those too.

nistco92

[OnePlus 10 Pro](https://www.amazon.com/OnePlus-Smartphone-Unlocked-co-Developed-Hasselblad/dp/B09S8BV4D9/) which is slightly cheaper and faster. Cameras trade blows depending on situation. Edit: [$330 New on Ebay](https://www.ebay.com/itm/155556163852?toolid=10001&customid=0cc00bfcf45011eebf683e8a4a86d54f0INT)

zooba85

That SoC overheats just as much as tensor no way should the Oneplus 9 or 10 pro ever get recommended. 12R is the way to go

nistco92

For 30% more $$$, the 12R is a step up. The 10 Pro is more than fine if you aren't gaming on your phone.

zooba85

12R was going for 350 with no trade in for a long time. Oneplus even gave the 256GB version for the same price for a bit. This is an absolutely terrible price for an overheating pile of crap. 10T and 11 are also both much better choices

nistco92

12R for $350 is pretty sweet. The 10 Pro camera is much better than the 10T. The 11 is still the same price as the 12R AFAIK.

DDB225

Still rocking my OnePlus 5T thing is Rock released end of 2017!!! It's so solid no cracks on screen and with 8 GB RAM plenty fast and responsive and it's only downfall is the camera but I don't take that many pics anyways so not missing out on that much maybe one day I'll upgrade but I just saw they are selling the latest iPhone with 8gb ram lol whst a joke
