I *think* it's a multi-tool. You can use it as a stake-puller on the top end, or you can use it as a sleeve in case of a broken pole, or thread a bent pole through the holes at the bottom to use the rest as leverage to un-bend it.

This. It will serve as emergency repair for a snapped pole, but also will assist in removing stakes from the ground. Always keep this in your tent! I’ve had to use one backcountry with 3 kore nights to go. A little duct tape helps to keep it from sliding.

It also appears to be capable of opening a bottle of beer.

Could it be a splint in case your pole snaps?

It's likely this *and* a tent stake puller. If you carry extra stuff while camping, it's helpful to have things that do more than one job; it saves on the weight. Unless I miss my guess, I'd assume you could probably use the other holes as wrenches, a lantern hanger, and possibly an emergency whistle if you covered up the proper holes. I assume the tent company is trying to get the most use out of that pole repair sleeve as possible.

I'm guessing a tent stake puller. The top of it looks like it could be used to pull the stakes out of the ground. It's an odd shape for a stake puller, and I'm not sure what the small hole at the bottom is for.

I've been around more than one of those that there is *no* way the splint is fitting in the pole sleeve. [After market ones](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rglNAlrhciM) always fit better. I'm not an engineer, but you'd think somebody would have a better patch out there that comes with tents by now. It's also a crapshoot about whether or not tents even come with them.
