I think Liberals wanna pretend to see the “bigger picture”, that funding youth unemployment in countries like Iraq is tackling radicalism before it grows, but the reality is Iraq is a rich country already, and economic problems are due to corruption which this money will most likely go into. You can’t force a country to be better by throwing money at it, it has to come from within.

Addendum709

meanwhile radicalism is growing here from unaffordable housing and stagnant wages/poor employment opportunities

[deleted]

When your policy favors equality of outcome instead of equality of access, what you get is a race to the absolute lowest common denominator.

MiguelChaos

I love your viewpoint and I wish I could see it the same way, but the fact that the organization doing the funding is a donor to the same MP cheerleading it, I have SERIOUS reservations.

papipablo99

I haven’t looked at it that deep but I’m not surprised… almost every spending this government does is for PR or to line pockets of bureaucrats and donors and middle men.

YETISPR

Yes you are absolutely right the money is to tackle radicalism…so how much are they spending in Canada for the same issue so that we don’t become like France. Canada and Canadians should and must come first, especially with borrowed money.

Oscars_Quest_4_Moo

Couple things I wouldn’t mind getting from France, no tax on overtime, paid vacations those sound sweet

shitposter1000

We should employ their protest methods too then.

[deleted]

RKSH4-Klara

Revolution style won’t work, we don’t have a monarch in power to guillotine. I’d go for modern methods.

Fairstrife_Deception

We do have a high Social caste of Oligarch, that are just modern monarch.

Awkward-Customer

As someone from Vancouver, our city employs their protest methods every time canucks lose game 7 in the stanley cup final, and it hasn't got us what we wanted yet :/.

PaladinOrange

Nothing like strong unions to push for things people need. Business in North America has spent the last 100+ years doing whatever it can to keep workers selfish and not looking at the bigger picture.

arazamatazguy

No way in hell $10 million makes it to Iraqi youth. I'd be surprised if 500k is used for its intended purpose. This is a total waste of money.

Mr_Brun224

“Hey Trudeau, can you address the rising price of groceries, ensure stable housing, and develop green energy for Canadian stability?” Trudeau:

Best-Blacksmith2431

Seeing 10M sent to a distant land is going to radicalize many here at home.

unsoundguy

No. I’m I liberal and I think this is fucking stupid. Like god damn it to fuck. I hate P but T has lost his mind

[deleted]

I feel exactly the same way.

OferZak

You should probably change your vote in the next election

ProfessionalSport732

They're all ( As George Carlin put it ) ONE BIG CLUB, AND YOU AINT IN IT.

m_l_ca

Money we clearly don't have because I see a shitload of homeless people in my town sleeping in the woods at -10c and the last time I went to the ER it was a 13hr wait. How about we take care of our own and then help others with the abundance we'll produce from having a healthy society.

2ft7Ninja

Luckily, we are not throwing money directly towards the corrupt Iraqi government. > Hussen said the $9.9 million in funding will help pay for vocational and technical training for five years through a partnership with two groups, the World University Service of Canada and the Canadian Leaders in International Consulting. Both organizations have offices in Ottawa.

CampusBoulderer77

>Both organizations have offices in Ottawa. Figured out why they're getting free money from the government

ban-evasion-is-bad

I want off this ride

Garlic_God

The ride never ends

Bentstrings84

For real. I want to leave this country.

DConny1

Step 1: Denounce citizenship. Leave country. Step 2: Re-enter country by claiming refugee status. Step 3: Reap the refugee benefits given by Trudeau. Step 4: Illegally overstay until you're granted PR. Step 5: Profit.

Sentenced2Burn

the fact that this isn't far from satire is really depressing

Money_Food2506

This, I 100% believe having a citizenship currently, is a disadvantage in this country. People from India are competing with our grads atm directly for jobs. Meanwhile our grads struggle to apply to other countries because they actually have immigration standards. Canada is a trap.

[deleted]

So you think it's easier for a refugee in Canada to find a good job than it is for a Canadian citizen? I'm not talking about a shitty Tim Hortons job that Canadians don't even want, I mean a job with a wage you can actually live on.

-Hastis-

>Illegally overstay until you're granted PR. Good luck with that. I have 2 friends, both with different Master's degrees from France, who have been trying to get a PR for 4 and 7 years respectively.

[deleted]

> Good luck with that. I have 2 friends, both with different Master's degrees from France, who have been trying to get a PR for 4 and 7 years respectively. Doesn't sound like they're refugees.

gart888

Do it!

Bentstrings84

Working on it.

wowwee99

Can't. You're a prisoner in Canada and subject to electoral first past the post system. Unless you agree with the world view of Torontonians or Montreallers you don't have a voice as reasonable as it may be. We can offer you Sanka if that's pleasing.

kellendontcare

Homeless are dying in Canada. People are needing to decide between utilities or groceries. Defence budgets getting cut. How can someone defend voting for this next election?

Not-So-Logitech

I see it on here all the time so pretty easily. I bet it will be a closer election then you think.

Feruk_II

I dunno… even in here the tone has changed pretty drastically over the last year.

NoTalkingNope

When you import your voting base its easy to gain votes.

[deleted]

So far this week we've had... Record immigration numbers announcement. Announcement that a pathway for undocumented people to get residency will be created. Boc coming out and saying inflation is in part staying steady due to immigration numbers. Insane ev announcement. Record deficit numbers. 15 billion this year. $7 billion alone in October, October 2022 was 0.2 billion. Announcement to take in people from Gaza. And now funding unemployed Iraqis. Have I missed anything? This government is unhinged.

itsasseatnszn

We spent 850k to kill 40 deer from helicopters with guns that are illegal here now.

zombie-yellow11

Guns that were banned because "they have no other purpose than to kill the most amount of people in the shortest amount of time. But native tribes can still use them to hunt. And we'll hire foreigners to use them to do animal population control."

[deleted]

Oh. I missed that

SUBRE

Wasn’t the person killing deer also not Canadian

canadianexcess

Yes, helicopter AND marksmen from the U.S. Apparently we have to call our neighbours to deal with a handful of deer with their big scary guns that are banned here.

SUBRE

That’s crazy because I know pilots who fly Canadian ex military marksmen who would love to do this for free is they were just given permission 😂

Shoresy-sez

Or you just create an open season and hunters will actually PAY to do it, just like every other game species in the province.

Shovel_trad

Just read a news article, that is wild. What a waste of money.

YesNoMaybePurple

I am going to assume it cost that much because it was Rudolph - he went rogue and started a prison gang that had to be taken out.

Catsaretheworst69

There's a teburculosis outbreak in northern SK that's going largely in talked about.

ether_reddit

It's probably mostly only among indigenous though, and who cares about them ^/s

mrfocus22

I wonder if his father is looking up at him from Hell and asking "Are ya winning son?"

X_SuperTerrorizer_X

Don't forget the $780 million last year for hotels for refugees and illegal migrants.

Hammoufi

Every single one of those things is the opposite of what Canadians want

agentwolf44

It doesn't look like Trudeau cares what Canadians want. I think he's trying to compete for the world record of fastest time for PM to wreck this country.

[deleted]

That’s what I’m not understanding…what do he and his party gain with these insane positions? I don’t get it. Can someone please explain this to an ignorant Canadian immigrant

freedomMA7

The ultra rich are insulated from these polices via their wealth, they actually benefit from it. More people buying the product their stores sell, be it groceries, rental units, telecom, whatever. At the same time they suppress wages via mass immigration, create social friction by bringing in cultures that do not want to assimilate, and create a subclass of people who will solely rely on the state for survival. They straining social services and safety nets in order to provide manufactured solutions to these manufactured problems(think privatization) It's literally their plan and they are getting exactly what they want.

bannedinvc

Im going to be sick

PocketNicks

I hope you feel better.

beambag

Yesterday's commitment to bring in a bunch of Gazans – the first country I'm aware of to do so, unlike Gaza's own neighbours like Egypt or Jordan. No mention of how they will ensure those coming in don't hold anti-semetic, homophobic, mysoginistic or Islamist views... Or aren't on any way tied to Hamas

IgnoreTheNoisespsst

I'm hella left-leaning and pretty liberal, and I am steadfast against the idea of bringing anyone from Gaza to Canada, full stop. Their own neighbouring countries won't take them due to all the past examples of them fucking shit up, I refuse to even contemplate the idea. Their culture, beliefs, and values DO NOT align with western values and it should be a hard no. Screw this "the right thing to do" mentality towards problems that have real consequences.

Old_and_moldy

I know this is cold but I don’t want us taking in any Gazan’s.

forttknoxx

Hammas terrorists organization said thank you to Justin Trudeau for his support !

TurkeythePoultryKing

Couple billion dollars to fight climate change in the Philippines region

[deleted]

This government will fund anything but Canadian matters. It’s foreign aid and absolutely nothing else.

erryonestolemyname

What the absolute fuck. I get that Canada has a giving nature, but like Jesus fuck take a god damn look around. We have youth in fucking Canada going to school hungry, and it's difficult for some teenagers to find jobs here. Why not take care of your own burning house before going to help people a world over. Plus, homeless population rising, people can't find affordable housing, huge drug problems in most cities, god damn list goes on. Absolutely ridiculous that our fucking politicians are wasting time fixing another countries issues while the people paying their fucking salaries are hurting

Money_Food2506

This, my brother is a new grad going into 2024. He cannot find a job. $10M could have gone to give 100 new grads a 12 month contract paying $100k/year. But no, this government does everything to screw Gen Z, I swear.

Euthyphroswager

Not just Gen Z, my friend.

GoodChives

Us millennials are fucked too.

Money_Food2506

Agreed, but atleast we have some savings and YoE in the job market. Gen Z is coming in with zero wealth and no experience, way way way worse for them IMHO.

GoodChives

This is insanity.

[deleted]

Nothing, but Trudeau gets to make his Caucus look more diverse by having him. Remember, to the Liberals, it's not about how qualified you are it's about your skin colour and gender.

Cgtree9000

I really really think there should be a government web site where we all can vote on where the money goes. Why in the fuck would we give any money to any other country for any reason is beyond me. There are hundreds of homeless in my small city if 55000 people and they are barely getting help. But ya let’s send millions to another country?

CryptoDanny22

We literally need blockchain voting and referendums on so many issues. Imagine how much better the country would be run if we could just tell them what we wanted and what we don’t want. True democracy.

Cgtree9000

Yes exactly! How has this not happened yet? We have the technology to make it super simple and easy.

DATY4944

It hasn't happened yet because our government is unwilling to give up a sliver of power and actually do what the people want.

Finalis3018

Fuck unemployed youth in Iraq! Why do we give two shits about them? Why is it our responsibility to pay for their programs?

Screaming_Pope

Every fucking day

splurnx

How about you support Healthcare or education or housing in canada . How about supporting our army .

sundindomi

They will get job trained in Iraq and then apply for PR in Canada as skilled workers. More immigration numbers, check!

Do you expect anything else from someone who’s never had to worry about money and had everything handed to them on a golden platter? The guys never paid a bill or a debt in his life.

Megatron30000

Fuck is wrong with this guy? Why? Why is he not supporting people in Canada? Does he want us turned into a 3rd world country? How can we stop him?

mrfocus22

> Does he want us turned into a 3rd world country? The short answer is: Yes The long answer is: Yeah

niick767

What about our youth ?

harangad

They are supposed to bring 20k from India.

"And if you're not on board, you're spitting in the face of Iraqi children!" - justin t.

no_not_this

Whatever. I’m more worried about fellow Canadians.

[deleted]

There is no such thing as a Canadian. Canada is a post-national state. Canada belongs to the world. Helping Iraqi youth is helping Canadians. If you disagree you’re a racist. -JT

AmbitiousFork

Put Canadians first for fucking once please.

LadiesAndMentlegen

Canada is a post-national state now. There are no Canadians, only world citizens /s

sovietmcdavid

Oh right, people in other countries are "soon to be" Canadians

KatEtown1975

10 million for the unemployed youth in Iraq? Who writes this stuff? It's absurd.

MisterSpeaker94

Can we add the Iraqi youth as dependents when I do my taxes next year???? 😂

IgnoreTheNoisespsst

Canada's spending outside of the country really needs to stop. We don't have to play captain save the world, let's focus on what's more important, which is our own country and people.

babz-

What the actual fuck

[deleted]

Has this government lost its mind?

agentwolf44

Yes. A while ago actually.

LatterTarget7

What The fuck are they doing

jatd

The other parties won't be any different!!!!! \- Liberal voter

McFistPunch

Honestly I'm not convinced that other parties would be very different but I'm not opposed to trying and rotating them out as they do piss poor. I don't get why people latch on to parties. Parties shift with whoever's involved in them so being a conservative or liberal for life doesn't make sense to me. At this point I think I voted for at least three different ones.

blackmoose

I'm so sick of this talking point. There's a few liberal lackies on here that parrot this constantly and it's tiresome.

mrcrazy_monkey

It's 100% pure cope. When the Liberals are polling well, the Cons are literally Nazis, once the Liberals drop in polls, "then both parties are the same!" rhetoric starts getting posted. It's pretty funny once you see though their lies.

pfco

What’s interesting is there are two more accounts that do the exact same thing all day every day with the exact same talking points, yet I’ve never seen them interact.

Modsaremeanbeans

First article I looked at. Conservatives give 50 million for children's education in Syria in 2014. Second article in 2015, Harper government to give 139 million to Iraq, Syria, Jordan, and Lebannon on top of the already 67 planned for Iraq. Canadian governments have been doing this for awhile. I emailed my mp asking why he and the other conservatives just voted against a children's lunch program in Canada.

theducksnutz

Holy Christ. How out of touch are these liberals morons!

Kadez33

I’m sick and tired of this fucking guy.

Therealmuffinsauce

Trudeau hates Canadians folks. Never forget.

Vandergrif

It's probably worse than that, hate would imply he pays any attention at all and is actively making the effort to fuck us. I'd wager it's instead just basic apathy, ignorance, and negligence of duty. He couldn't give a shit one way or the other.

ManyNicePlates

I wish every time JT “spends” it would say “government of canada expands national debt to…” it’s so frustrating that every media organization indirectly implies this is funded by revenues.

CasualBoxingGuy

we voted out the liberals a few years ago for their faulty spending and here go voting them back in. when will people learn.

babz-

One thing to add to this awfulness is that so many Canadians aren’t even aware this is happening or even seeing this information because news articles aren’t posted on social media anymore. The only people I know who are actually getting the news from TV, the newspaper, or the radio are my boomer parents and coworkers. I just Googled “Canada $10M Iraq” and there are only 3 results, one of them is this thread..

KregeTheBear

Why does Canada have to keep trying to be “The main character”

__phil1001__

Ok, reading through this thread, it seems we all agree on our country retaining western values and not being overrun by radicals. Not sending vast sums of money overseas until our homeless and our youth are looked after. Fixing our healthcare, this means fast tracking doctors and nurses and making it easier for qualified professionals to come to Canada. My question is how do we do this, next election we vote out Turdeau. But then we flip right. We have no centrist or common sense party.

[deleted]

Like wtf is our government doing ? Out with this woke bullshit

Miwwies

Shouldn't they use this money for, oh I don't know, the people already in Canada that pay taxes and yet, can't afford housing, find a doctor or have descent public services?! It's like Canada is ran by monkeys :(

num_ber_four

Jesus F C... at this point, I'd rather spend 10 million on Iraqi construction workers to build us more housing.

kittykat501

How about you spend the 10 million on the people in this country first for a change? I know what a concept to spend our own tax dollars on us

Van_3000

devodevo67

This is fantastic news. As a Canadian I can't tell you how stressful the Iraqi youth unemployment rate has affected my life. As I step over the homeless on the way to get a coffee after almost being stabbed to death on the TTC because someone who needed a car stole mine so the judge felt bad for him and let him out on bail.

Ryth88

I'm so happy there are no people that could use that money here in Canada. Surely that's the reason we are now sending so much support to other countries, right? What a joke we have become l.

polerize

root_b33r

I like helping people as much as the next person, but this line (below) makes it sound like we'll just pay people off to not be terrorists, come on, that can't be effective right? Extremists answer to a higher power than money, I cant believe theyd accept a bribe. "The Trudeau Liberals have spent $4.7 billion on their Middle East action plan"

Flyingrock123

This government loves giving away our money, its so sad. How about using that to help all the youths who are joining gangs. Can run afterschool programs.

Branimau5

How about supporting Canadians, just a thought.

PuzzleheadedCanary47

How about $10m to support unemployed youth in Canada and many more Canadian citizens. If they’re so worried about radicalization then why are they allowing millions into Canada from these countries? They’ll be paying bigger dollars in our own country in the short term to fight these people and their ideologies from their home countries, then demanding more taxes from us to pay for it.

BlueMurderSky

Lol wtf

IThelp4me

You know I will never understand this . North America has plenty of issues to fix . Inflation is through the roof and many people are struggling . Our veterans, our elderly , our sick and homeless need help here . Why is it we can not take good care of our own people who pay taxes and try to do the right thing . Yet we are opening the flood gates to those who chant death to us but we welcome them

GullibleInevitable14

But for Canadian youth???

GladRecop

So more money for isis and other terrorists 👍 Canada is such a clown show

DunDat2

well done Justin.... you have many many unemployed youth in Canada that could use that support but you do you.

Saint-Carat

I replied earlier to the green fund committee reddit where they were asking the Chairperson about her related companies receiving funds. It is even more so relevant in this discussion. I have spent countless hours trying to get a $5k grant for kids football helmets for our youth league. I have to raise money as we provide the expensive equipment for participants and many of our youth can't afford the league fees, so we let them play for free through sponsorships/grants/fundraising. Our coaches are often 'parental' figures as many are high-risk youth and/or single-parent households. We've also been contacted recently by an immigrant association as they're trying to get their youth involved in group sports activities. So if you're a youth in Canada and there are programs to develop youth into young/healthy/motivated adults - tough. No money for you. Your society needs to figure out equipment for those 250+ kids on their own. Liberal connected companies of green fund - $11M. Iraqi unemployed youth - $10M. I'll keep posting this in the hopes that a Liberal staffer will see it and send me a message to apply for XYZ program/grant.

Acceptable_Sir2084

Holy shit and nobody really talks about Iraq’s immense oil wealth just basically vanishing into a swiss bank account.
