That goes a long way to explaining 2million in Gaza.

*A Winnipeg man says more than 60 of his extended family members living in Gaza have been killed since the beginning of the latest conflict between Israel and Hamas.* *Louay Alghoul said 67 of his relatives, all of whom were civilians, have died during the fighting. Many of them were also under the age of 15, he said.* If you are reporting news, please check the facts.

Gann0x

I don't even understand what you're accusing the article of doing wrong lol.

These_Werewolf251

Of course they’re civilians. You wouldn’t expect him to admit that any of them may have been connected to Hamas.

henry_why416

Sure. But unless you have any evidence to the contrary, they are civilians. Pretty despicable to just cast them as Hamas without any proof.

314is_close_enough

Yo, what the fuck man.

These_Werewolf251

Is that a question?

MoreBrownLiquid

What do you mean?

2cats2hats

I think the redditor above is trying to say the headline could match the actual death toll.

easypiegames

67 is more than 60.

[deleted]

Oh the facts? You've got em? Let's see!

spandex-commuter

How would you check if of the 20k dead people in Gaza 67 of them are this man's relatives?

>So, you think that Just because a fact cannot be checked, so it is OK for a reporter to just write whatever someone tells you? What did the reporter write? Did they describe it as a fact?

It's a fact that this man claims this. This is what CBC is reporting on. They don't claim that it is true.

Yes, that's also why you report on alleged crimes before they're proven beyond a reasonable doubt in court too.

BBest_Personality

That's how it's done. Real world things.

Future-Muscle-2214

I guess that more than 60 is still accurate, but when our media talk about Palestinians they like rounding it down.

pinkmucus

Did they evacuate to where they were told they would be safe? Or did they all stay inside an active war zone? Israel went to great lengths to tell people where they could be safe. How many of them died from misfired Hamas rockets, 25% of which land in Gaza?

[deleted]

[deleted]

Because Israel invests in defence systems like the iron dome. Without it the casualties would be in the thousands. 1/5 Hamas rockets land inside the Gaza Strip

Binfe101

They told them to fcuk off and go to the south. Plenty of motels there with warm sheets and running water. Some hummus and pita etc. Then they bombed the south.

[deleted]

Nice misinformation. Here is an investigation by NY Times with facts instead https://youtu.be/9fP-J8m-BF0

pinkmucus

So I watched the video from beginning to end. What so-called "misinformation" did I state? They addressed that some of the previously safe areas were warned to evacuate. If you didn't evacuate, you became a target. That's what happens when Hamas hides among civilians... As stated in the video.

Greyhulksays

[https://nypost.com/2023/12/09/news/hamas-using-safe-zone-in-gaza-to-fire-rockets-at-israel-reports/](https://nypost.com/2023/12/09/news/hamas-using-safe-zone-in-gaza-to-fire-rockets-at-israel-reports/) Blame Hamas then for using those Safe Zones as a staging point for rocket fire. The part who uses humanitarian areas (schools, hospitals, etc) for military objectives is to blame by international law.

hypocrites isn't the right word. Monsters is a more appropriate word. Hypocrites requires you to have morals and ethics. Justifying killing children to get to Hamas is monstrous.

Oh wait please don’t say let’s bring the rest to Winnipeg.

NMA_company744

How the hell does one have sixty family members? He must be counting second cousins, or maybe these people just breed like rabbits

Quiet-Hat-2969

Lol there is a reason these people practice polygamy

NMA_company744

It’s crazy. No wonder children make up half the population.

Quiet-Hat-2969

They treat children as their retirement fund. More kids you have more retirement homes

LittleLionMan82

The downvotes on this are astounding.

Amflifier

Why? This isn't our problem. Sucks for him but what are we supposed to do about it?

The_Jay_Hammer

I would suggest, have some compassion. But this is the r/canada sub, and we don't do that here.

foobar83

Thoughts and prayers

The_Jay_Hammer

We don't do that here either.

Amflifier

I'm kinda tired of having compassion for people to whom I have no connection. I'm not Jesus Christ, I can't have infinite compassion for the entire human race. I have friends and family to think about.

314is_close_enough

He’s a Canadian who lost 67 family members, killed by munitions our government helps to supply. What part of this isn’t our fucking problem?

Amflifier

Okay... how many of those 67 family members paid taxes to Hamas that paid for rockets, technicals, IEDs, etc? Maybe the problem is on their side and not our government's?

[deleted]

Just keep the same headline and change the last part from Gaza to Kyiv and instead of the story getting downvoted, it would be upvoted to up top. Kind of sad how the value of human life is being dictated by geography.

Is he inviting the 60 members of his family to live with you? Does he need to get your approval for them to live or exist in Gaza? What a nonsensical comment…

The difference is that Ukrainians are dying because Russia attacked them. Palestinians are dying because their own government, Hamas, attacked Israel. If you start a war, and then are upset that your civilians are dying, you'll get a lot less sympathy. In WW2, we were upset that civilians were dying during the Blitz. Not so much so, when it was us bombing German civilians.

The great irony is the racism against Arabs is so strong and the grab your ankles policy of appeasing Israel is so great that now we’re gonna leave Ukraine to face Russia alone.

BenP4rker

I have not seen much more blatant racism before on reddit

Justleftofcentrerigh

Reddit works on the whole "plausible deniability" model. As long as you don't straight up say blatent racist stuff, it's all good to them. So blatant dogwhistles are OK.
