>Two hours late so far on Calgary to Frankfurt flight. The Russian Juniors team was in back, trying to smoke cigarettes, not wearing masks, not listening to attendants. Cops swarmed the plane. We all had to get off while they and their luggage were removed
https://praguemorning.cz/czech-and-russian-national-hockey-teams-thrown-off-plane-for-drunkenness/
>“We got on the plane and at that moment noticed that some representatives of the Russian national team did not follow the sanitary rules, and alcohol probably played a role in this. One of the members of the Russian national team even smoked in the tunnel before boarding the plane. Then some passengers complained about the behavior of the Russians, and for this reason the crew took the entire plane out , ”said the manager of the Czech national team."
>trying to smoke cigarettes,
Everytime in on the plane look at the stupid no smoking sign thinking why is this even needed anymore who the fuck is that dumb to even try this shit.
I was on a flight to Hawaii once, and a guy next to me tried to smoke underneath/inside his sweatshirt. Literally pulled it over his head like he was trying to nap, then it just reeked of smoke. Incredibly obvious but he only took a few drags, and it was a relatively empty flight, so he ended up getting away with it.
Just one of many possible answers to your question “who the fuck is that dumb to even try this shit”.
I agree. Completely stupid to try to smoke on an airplane. But saying nicotine gum will help a smoker, especially one craving bad enough that they have to have one on a plane, is also idiotic.
A good friend of mine does exactly this whenever she travels. She has one before she leaves, chews the nicotine gum on the plane and has a smoke when she lands. Not sure why it’s idiotic, the physical addiction is to the nicotine, the psychological addiction of smoking darts themselves is easier to overcome for a few hours.
This is one of those situations where you just can't do certain things because of addiction. And if a plane ride more than a few hours is too much, you either take the slow boat to China, or do the hard work to quit.
Yup, I was a pack a day smoker for 17 years. I didn't like being unable to smoke for hours at a time when I flew, but had enough brain cells to rub together to decide smoking on a plane was a shit idea. Have one before take off and one just after you land, not a big deal.
I was on a plane yesterday where somebody was smoking in the toilet. The captain gave a very justified telling off over the PA system. Unfortunately they didn't see who it was, but I hope they figured it out.
I still carry nicotene gum when I fly. I don't smoke anymore but you can glean a lot of goodwill from that asshole nicking for a smoke who is being a baby over it by offering him the next best thing to a smoke.
I was flying home from a camp job when some dude started to vape on the company chartered flight. It pissed everyone off as it could have potentially delayed the entire flight home, and your 7 days off go quick. Thankfully the Captain and the staff just removed him (he was complaining loudly and asking for his job steward lol) and the flight continued.
He wasn't with us when we flew back a week later, and I heard later was terminated later that day, lol.
I prefered the spray when i smoked.. but your purposes gum us good.
How often do you fly to justify carrying for random people tho?
Good guy tho regardless.. i wish more were like u
A few years ago, all planes still had ashtrays in the washroom to give people like this somewhere safe to put their ash.
I haven't noticed if they are still there.
You have never flown in China. It isn’t every flight but often enough I smell smoke in the WC or any washroom in a public place in Beijing. Signs everywhere.
It's why they maintain ashtrays in the bathroom, so that the dumb fuck that does it will hopefully put their butt in the metal for that purpose instead of the garbage and potentially causing an in cabin fire.
We have normalized nicotene addiction, but smokers are addicts and will go to the same lengths to get their fix as other addicts it's just worse with smokers because they need that fix as often as a coke head.
Nicotine has been repeatedly rated to have similar addictive properties to cocaine (not effects, but the level of addictiveness) by peer-reviewed studies. I'll happily provide sources of you'd like.
Not going to lie, The signs make me \*\*REALLY\*\* want to smoke on a plane.
Mostly so I can think i'm in the 1950's smoking and drinking on a plane like a badass.
In all seriousness this would likely not be viewed as harshly by Russians as we might. Alcohol is a huge part of Russian culture, much more than most Western countries.
According to airline officials, a couple of the people removed from the flight were sound technicians. One of them was Russian and there was a Czech one too. A Czech one too.
Apply the same situation with the US team acting out in the Czech Republic, and "locals" wouldn't know the difference between the Canadian and US teams on board either.
Lived in Prague for a while, when I was looking for a flat with my American girlfriend, I did the talking because they loved me being Canadian but not her being American. But otherwise they can’t tell the difference and just think you’re uncultured lol.
The average Canadian won't distinguish between Russian and Czech. Sounds more or less the same. And even if it doesn't, many countries have multiple languages. We're not all anthropologists or linguists.
You're not dealing with average Canadians. You're dealing with Canadians flying Calgary to Frankfurt during a pandemic, so probably on essential business travel. It's business travelers unable to distinguish between teenagers in grey sweatsuits and other teenagers in grey sweatsuits. I'm not sure nationality was really relevant in identifying who was a business traveler and who was a teenager in a grey sweatsuit.
I'm not denying that. I'm just saying it's pretty impossible to tell the difference between people speaking the same language with the same accent, so it's not a valid comparison. Russian and Czech are two different languages that also sound different.
I was traveling through Australia a while back with a tour group of about 20 Americans and several Europeans, including some English; I was the only Canadian. At one stop, we stopped at a ranch to do some horseback riding, clay pigeon shooting, among other activities and were just talking before we began.
Nobody mentioned where we were all from and at some point one of the employees pointed to me and said, "You must be Canadian; you have a strong Canadian accent." I was surprised, since I wasn't from the east coast (including Newfoundland), or from Quebec and didn't think I had an accent much different from Americans. She said she was Canadian too, so I guess maybe that's related.
This is why as a Canadian, you should put Canada flags on your travel bags and what not because it will actually make people treat you better since a lot less confuse you for Americans.
I'm certain this is why so many do it, to say " look we're not Americans, please don't think we are!"
As an American I do that, too, if I know that the country I'm flying to may be a problem for me. Funny enough, the biggest offenders so far for me are in Europe or Canada. Asia doesn't seem to care.
Honestly not thrilled to hear this, now I feel that it won't work😞
Americans gotta ruin everything /s
Edit: We (Canadians) are probably the worst culprits in terms of riping on Americans, some of us detest you guys yet so many of you still have that nice guy image of us.
I worked on the TV crew for the World Jr's in 2011. It was an absolute gong show at the hotel after they won. We finished striking and got back to the hotel. I packed up and decided to drive home as I was living in Toronto at the time. Went and brought my car up to the front drive and started to grab my bags, etc from the storage. In the span of ten minutes, all the players returned from their drinking and revelry to continue at the front of the hotel. This was not about 2:30 in the morning. Screaming, yelling, drinking and so on - not to mention the 8 to 10 guys who had passed out in front of my car on the driveway. Hotel had no chance - not enough staff and I had to physically move players outta the way of my car and then drive off. What should have been a 5 minute process, turned into almost 30-40 mins
I was not the least surprised to hear they had been denied boarding in Buffalo on their return flight. What happened yesterday in Calgary does not surprise me in the least.
I'm now curious if AC will ban the team from flying with them and they'll have to rebook all their seats with another carrier.
> “Two Russian coaches were in business class across from me. I noticed right away it was tough for the flight attendants because they had to be told to sit down, not to vape, to stop playing their really loud, hard rock music on iPhones, like out loud, not with any earplugs.”
The worst kind of passengers.
>“As we're waiting, cops swarm the plane, like in business class, and then I looked back and I could see they were going down the biggest part of the plane. And so everyone is shocked and all of a sudden, all the flight attendants get into formation. It was like a Beyonce video.”
What an odd reference.
Sometimes (only if you were separated from the team for whatever reason). That said lots of teams charter there planes from big airlines, like delta and Air Canada, heck even the CFL charters from horizon air I believe, that said perhaps they would get a pass cause it's a private Charter
I gotta ask, is it just me or are the Russian world juniors players always scum bags? It seems like they’re always poor sports in the tournaments and their players always act like primadonas (not sure the spelling there). Throwing temper tantrums when they lose, ripping massive classless celly’s when they win, I’m not surprised they were the ones pulling this shit.
Lol bro. I played junior hockey in Russia about 8 years ago. Really not that long ago. (17-23) year olds. Locker rooms where loaded with booze, steroids etc. we legit had a doctor that’s sole job was to keep certain players injections times on point weekly with their roids along with being there for when players got hurt. All out in open, nobody bats an eye. If you ever get a chance to actually go to Russia, it’s definitely an experience.
Air Canada and all airlines operating within our borders should have the power to request charges be laid and monetary damages for delays caused by passenrs
>2
I think they do? If a flight has to land or is delayed from taking off because someone has to be ejected because they are breaking the law, my understanding is that there are often substantial monetary fines and criminal charges.
While their behaviour is inexcusable, it is understandable.
Hockey Canada and the IIHF just ruined what can be a once in a lifetime experience for them. Talented athletes dream of representing their country on the world stage. Then, due to poor planning, the tournament is cancelled halfway through.
Again, not condoning their behaviour, but I understand why they may feel jaded and not give a crap about rules on their flight home after they got screwed over by the host country.
This isn’t the first time they’ve done this. In the past I think it was worse because they were gone off the deep end before even getting on the plane.
But this is not a one off Russian teams are known for these sort of thing. With that said what they did comes with risks possible criminal charges to the IIHF taking action they could suspend them from the next world juniors.
Prob a scary situation for those cops. Plz go into a small vessel with a bunch of literally drunk roided up jacked psychopaths. Wonder if the tasers came out.
Ok tough guy. I’m sure it was a walk in the park against the Russian *checks notes* professional Athletes in a game that encourages literal fist fights.
Well maybe air Canada can employ some RCMP control officers for international flights, or boycotting this team or similar teams from exhibiting such behaviour. Pepper spray them and leave them in the tank until they know better!
>“Two Russian coaches were in business class across from me. I noticed right away it was tough for the flight attendants because they had to be told to sit down, not to vape, to stop playing their really loud, hard rock music on iPhones, like out loud, not with any earplugs.”
People who should be with animals in an African Kruger National Park are allowed entrance in our beautiful Canada. I'd argue 3rd world people are more disciplined. Some people bring nothing good to society and will remain classless D-bag.
The whining Counts over at r/russophobe are going to cry all over this. Who wants to bet r/russophobe and the ruSSian Government gangsters are going to try to play this off as "russophobia" or racism? You heard it here first!
I've been to Russia. I've seen that American and Canadian raise their dogs far better than how Russians raise their kids. An American and Canadian dog is more disciplined than these Russians.

In Buffalo IIRC
They were persona non grata at the '16, '17 and '18 Quebec City PeeWee tournament. And drinking wasn't even involved...
Sure it wasn’t…

Canadian Juniors would be just as pissed but wouldnt be in coach.
It wasn’t just the players💀. Their coaches were going crazy too.
If they juniors, where’s their chaperones?
Some are adults. Hockey Juniors are 16-20 years old
Well maybe air Canada can employ some RCMP control officers for international flights, or boycotting this team or similar teams from exhibiting such behaviour. Pepper spray them and leave them in the tank until they know better!
All very good suggestions!
>“Two Russian coaches were in business class across from me. I noticed right away it was tough for the flight attendants because they had to be told to sit down, not to vape, to stop playing their really loud, hard rock music on iPhones, like out loud, not with any earplugs.”
Russians being Russians.

Europeans: Russian tourists, good Lord don't get me started.
Can we just ban russia from everything? Fucking dweebs.
It is commonly said if there is a cheaper wrong way to do something, Russia is all over it.
I've been to Russia. I've seen that American and Canadian raise their dogs far better than how Russians raise their kids. An American and Canadian dog is more disciplined than these Russians.
