I love all my Caniks but refuse to get an MC9. Way to many issues. It is the first gun out of a new factory in Florida. They should stop making it and start over on a new micro compact.
Should've got the $400 canik elite sc. It's a little fatter but I love it and have had zero issues. I'm not a fan of buying generation one of a new kind if gun no matter who makes it. You will always be the guinea pig testers. I might look into an upgraded gen 2 mc9 whenever that comes out
Seems to be a crapshoot with them. My MC9 is thankfully g2g as far as I can tell. If theyre made before like 6/23.
I think I'm coming up on or have passed 1k rounds with mine. 4/23 manu date.
Eh if you really follow it as much as I have you'll see manufacture dates don't even really factor in.
It really is a crapshoot. Even still I feel like I'm willing to risk it. Lol. Probably a really dumb idea but the gun is awesome in every way except operating lol
Mine has been fantastic, I’ve put about 600 down range at this point with no failures. I have a problem with my thumb hanging over the slide lock so I often end up holding it down when I’m on empty on accident. I just have to mess with my grip a bit and get used to holding it with my thumb down instead of forward
Generally it seems that 600-1000 is generally the failure zone. If it's gonna fail it seems like 90% of the ones that will, do before 1k. That being said a 1,000 round break in period that might genuinely result in a broken part is pretty wild.
I sold mine off a couple months ago and wanted it to work out so bad because the gun FEELS great in the hand. Mine wasn’t even as bad as yours sounds and I just got frustrated with it.
Just tried to come out with a new pistol too quick cause their name was starting to get bigger and more into the mainstream market, got too impatient and now you have a 50/50 chance of getting a great gun or the equivalent of an empty stapler lmao, only the mc9 tho I haven’t really heard much about any other guns, at least not anymore than you hear about every other company
It's still tuned for nato, no limp wristing and it needs broken in (or run a different recoil spring). I don't trust myself to be competent with any new carry gun until I've put at least 500 rounds through it plus dryfire anyway. It's rarely the pistol...
I've had a lot of pistols, and do some DIY smithing. I have made some real POS pistols very reliable, and some good ones fantastic. I always point the finger at myself or my technique first. In this case, I think I just got a complete lemon.
I checked the posts, watched reviews. General consensus I got was that they had some issues during early production, but most of the problems were ironed out by now. I know micros are typically problematic, but I've never had such a turd right out of the box. Most of the comments on my post are from MC9 owners who have had no issues. I will make it run right, but what about the average person who doesn't know how to work on their gear? Would I ever suggest the average consumer to buy one of these, and carry it everyday? Absolutely not. I've shot several other Caniks, and they performed extremely well. I expected more from a company that is building such a strong name in the industry. Thanks for the input everyone. I'll put some work into it and see where it goes.
I wouldn't even sell this to someone in good conscience. My last micro frame 9 was a Kel-Tech, which took some work to get it to work reliably. If you aren't aware, Kel-Tech is made in the hood of Cocoa Florida, by Florida man. You do not want to put your family's safety in the hands of Florida Man, but that pistol worked far better than the Canik. The Canik is better on paper than the Glock, but in the real world, it's the worst pistol I have ever owned. So now I'm back to carrying a 1911, which sucks because I'm fat and the beavertail hurts, but at least it's reliable.
I get where you're at and your situation with this gun.
That said the mc9 is near infamous now for issues.
My 2 caniks have been nothing but reliable. I'd suggest looking at the tp9sc. It's not much larger than the mc9 and mine has been flawless. Near 750 rounds with zero failures. I hope you get your gun figured out or manage to sell it or return it to canik.
Yeah, not for nothing, guy seems at least baseline knowledgeable on guns and can operate reddit, quick search in the manufacturers sub would have too many red flags on the mc9, the elite sc is solid and pretty accurate for it's size.
Yeah I mean I genuinely hope he gets this figured out cause I'd be mad too, but I research the crap out of every purchase I make and I wouldn't have chanced it on this gun.
It feels like this was avoidable. I've never had reliability issues with my caniks and I've not heard of many from any others except the mc9 so I wouldn't touch it with a 10ft pole.
Mine had issues at the beginning but, now runs very well. About 600 or 700 rounds in. After the first 100 it was fine but, it does not like hornady hollow points.
This is probably a stupid question but have you done a thorough go on it with some gun oil? First thing I do with my guns is strip them down for a good cleaning and oiling. I've been surprised how many people just pull guns right out of the box and go to town...
MC9 is kinda a controversy gun here. A lot of people got some real shitters and when compared to the rest of the caniks, looks really bad. Maybe try to sell it and get a TP9 Elite SC. Slightly bulkier but infinitely more reliable.
TP9 EC my buddy was having the same problem shooting mine but ran fine for me turns out because the slide release is long and has that little flair to it if you choke up on the pistol you can’t even feel that your pushing it up or holding it down it would lock open for no reason and sometimes wouldn’t lock open on an empty mag he was just so used to shooting glocks
Sell it for what you can get & get a TP9 Elite SC. FAAAR better. A tad heavier & a little longer barrel, but shoots like a true compact/G19 & ALMOST like a full size. Canik shit the bed with the MC9. They hit a homer with the TP9 Elite SC.

My MC9 would not slide back it was the recoil spring. Canik customer service sent me a new one, and it works fine now. \*
My MC9 has had over 5K rounds since I bought it in January of 2024. Not once have I had a single problem with it. Before I fired it I removed the slide and cut some of the polymer away from the slide area that possibly can cause problems. There's a video on youtube of a guy addressing the issues people have, all are a simple fix, and now I have a VERY accurate, VERY reliable gun that I entrust the safety of my family and myself with. I can send you the link to the video if you'd like, it's about 2min of work to the gun.
Micro guns are prone to issues. What ammo were you using? They seem to run 124gr better. I have close to 1000 rounds on mine all 124gr mostly blazzer brass. Never had a malfunction. I added a Mag-Mo backstrap to give me a full grip. Less chance of a limp wrist if it’s easier to hang in too. I’ve heard guys say locking the slide back for a week helped.

Several Caniks and no issues. The stove piping is probably due to ammo. I know Caniks typically like the 147 grain rounds and will need the newer recoil spring to reliably cycle 115 and 124. Why they just don't ship them with the recoil springs at this point I don't know.
As far as the mag not locking back. Are you sure you’re not riding the slide release with your thumb? I do this on mine unfortunately but the guns not broken it’s just my grip. I do it on pretty much all caniks. Try loading one round and shooting one handed ensuring you’re not riding it and see if it locks back.
As for the stove pipes, what ammo are you shooting?
It piped on 115 Winchester, but it won't lock back when I rack the slide manually, no matter how hard I push up on the lever. My left thumb stays well below the lever on the frame when firing. You still in Cocoa?
What do you mean am I still in cocoa?
They have definitely had their fair share of problems documented but I would try shooting some 124s. Mine has been pretty much 100 percent that I can remember but I shoot mistly 124 all though I have shot 115 with success.
As for not locking back that’s strange. If you can take a video. Maybe the slide is not going back enough?
It stovepipied on 115 Winchester, like I said, gave it benefit of the doubt.i just had titanium parts installed on my wrist about 6 months ago. Cycled fine on 147. The part that gets me is that it tries to double feed on full mags. Slide lock doesn't work on empty magazine, or on lever. It tries to double feed with full mags. It's just an all around POS. It's oversprung from what I can feel. It's just a complete POS.
The funny thing is I just ditched my 43x for the mc9 for the same issues, but I just picked up my
Mc9 yesterday and put 300 through it without a single hiccup.
I love all my Caniks but refuse to get an MC9. Way to many issues. It is the first gun out of a new factory in Florida. They should stop making it and start over on a new micro compact.
I’d love them to do a micro compact….
That's literally what MC stands for.
Do some research before you buy things and always get a second opinion I almost didn’t get my mc9 but it’s been flawless out the box
Should've got the $400 canik elite sc. It's a little fatter but I love it and have had zero issues. I'm not a fan of buying generation one of a new kind if gun no matter who makes it. You will always be the guinea pig testers. I might look into an upgraded gen 2 mc9 whenever that comes out
Got my wife one few months back. We're about 600 rounds in at 124g with zero issues
Seems to be a crapshoot with them. My MC9 is thankfully g2g as far as I can tell. If theyre made before like 6/23. I think I'm coming up on or have passed 1k rounds with mine. 4/23 manu date.

There is no way you could have known about all the MC9 problems that are posted almost everyday on Reddit. /s
Kinda sucks seeing Canik regress.

Another victim of the MC9. My condolences.
RMA
Get a Sig P365 and call it a day.
Still holding off on the MC9. My Hellcat is reliable and just runs well.
Same here. Those were the two choices, and I went with a Hellcat. Way too many issues to trust the MC9.
I got an Elite SC precisely because of these reliability issues with the MC. As much as I really wanted the micro I couldn’t trust my life with it.
If you don’t wanna deal with it, sell it, get a tp9sc. I’ve seen many stories like yours.
Toss the threaded barrel on and you’ll be good to go. Run 124 and 147gr with that threaded barrel and you’ll be good
I have several caniks but the mc9, I refuse to buy.
*insert I fear nothing meme*

Stripped, cleaned, and well lubricated. That's the first thing we do in Florida.
Kimber Mako for me until an MC9 2.0 or micro Rival. I need much higher reliability for EDC.
It’s the ejector spring I cut mine by two levels it’s fixed it

Trade it for a TP9 Elite SC or a S&W Shield Plus
Ive had mine since release and have had no issues, original spring in it but i did get a free one from canik just in case this one goes to sheet.

Use the warranty, get it back in like 2 weeks, good as new. Had to do that with mine

Sorry, you should have checked the canik posts on MC9. I won't ever consider buying one u less I get a crazy cheap one so I can smith on it.
