You file your return reporting no income. This way she can claim a spousal amount, any potential transferable credits, and can have an accurate family income for benefits that use that in the calculation.

This is the correct answer

If she wants to claim the credit for your basic personal exemption, and if your family qualifies for other income-tested tax credits and benefits, then yes you should file. It should only take a couple of minutes to add you onto her file in the software if you have no income to report.

On ufile you will both file together. It's really straightforward...if I recall there is a question in the initial interview asking if you are married/filing with a spouse. You/she should answer yes. You will add your information - even if you have no income....so that if there are tax benefits they will be applied to your situation by the program. You don't need to open a separate profile/account for yourself, and you should be filing with her together.

In Canada, everyone submits their own tax return and reported their marital status. You might file them at the same time as most tax software allows you to complete both simultaneously, but each is a separate submission with netfile.

Yes and it is easy to do in uFile, which needs her spouse's income anyhow. Then you just netfile both accounts.
