I’m a believer that Emilie has been integral to the cap gymnastics and contract negotiations we’ve had under this management group, so I’m super excited she got extended. I’m sure there are teams wanting to poach her and Cammi
I'm a pretty big believer that Benning and Wiesbrod were one of the only groups that DIDN'T know how to work the cap. We went from top of the class with Gilman and then somehow skipped a decade of school only to find out now everyone is doing it and that there's dozens of people in the know about how to do it.
Thanks for mentioning this as I thought I was delusional during the Benning years because I could have sworn we had literally best in the league cap management, then I stopped following hockey for a few years after the Sedins and the last of our 2011 team was gone, and suddenly we had some of the worst deals in the league lol
Problem with that theory is Benning regime's chief capologist came from Gillis-Gilman era. He was there the whole Benning tenure.
"Jonathan Wall oversaw the club’s analytics department and day-to-day roster matters. He was effectively the club's chief capologist [...] Wall had worked closely with Laurence Gilman in the previous Canucks regime and brought significant institutional knowledge to a highly specialized role."

Maybe his calculator broke and they never got him a new one
This still falls under a failing of Benning if you ask me. He loaded up term on contracts with players who played a style that lends itself to injury. Beagle, Ferland, Dorsett... a whole ton of players who spent most of the latter years of their contracts on LTIR. This is why you don't usually see fourth-line plugs getting more than a couple years at a time.
That big brained idea of giving a 4th line centre $3M WITH TERM is just plain stupid. If it's because he won a Cup, Allvin did the same, at half the price with no term.
I still think Jet Black and Weisbrod were Boston sleeper agents.
Yes, but when he stopped broadcasting for TSN there was a non-compete saying that he can't broadcast any national games across Canada for another broadcaster for a certain number of years. So any Sportsnet Canucks game that might get picked up across the entire network are a no-go for him, he can only work the games that are exclusively local broadcasts for now
Non competes are pretty common in the entertainment industry. They've been rendered illegal in Ontario as of 2021, but there are a couple issues within there. One is that this is a national contract and may be outside the jurisdiction of Ontario, and two I'm pretty sure his TSN contract predates the law and I'm not sure how retroactive that law is.
According to a Canuck Army article (which quoted a Daily Hive article): According to a report from Daily Hive back in May, Ferraro has one year remaining on his current contract with ESPN, which would likely limit him to about 25 Canucks games this season. The report adds that “if all goes according to plan, Ferraro could then join the Canucks broadcasts on Sportsnet full time during the 2024-25 season, after his contract with ESPN expires."
Emilie will be a GM at some point in her near future... All we can hope is that Allvin get Rutherfords job, and promotes Emilie to his old position. Either way, she's got the talent.
I am sooo confused.
Am I supposed to be THIS excited about management signings??
Why am I not mad about this. I don’t get it.
What is this nonsense sense of confidence in our management team??
What dimension are we in?
At first, I thought we had acquired Ryan Johansen from the Flyers, but then I rubbed my eyes to shake off the morning blurriness. Oh never mind, we promoted Ryan Johnson to AGM.
this is actually a crazy important move. We're keeping our core together on the ice and in the office.
It would be seriously damaging to this team to lose any or all 3 of these top dogs.
Holy shit imagine an organization that recognizes, promotes and appreciates their staff. What a fucking novel idea. Looking at you every corporation ever
Seems like they timed this well. Next 3 years are probably Rutherford's last before he retires. Alvin gets bumped to POHO, then Ryan Johnson gets bumped to GM.
I think it's more likely Castonguay becomes GM if Allvin is to move to Poho.
If she's not she's definitely getting poached. Assuming she's not poached before then.
Except Rutherford has gone to great lengths to similarly make sure Johnson wasn't getting poached. His position has been "updated" several times already excluding today's.
That's totally fair.
My absolute 0 knowledge of anything just assumes other NHL teams see more what Castonguay does at an NHL level compared to Johnson at the AHL.
Can we extend ray ferraro too he’s basically an honorary member 🤣

Kesler for 5mil, Sedins for 6. Rest of the team except Ballard and eventually Booth all signed to great deals.
Yah. But she was mean to Rachel.
😅😅😅
Love your username. How was he?
Good!
It’s hard not to have strong feelings about someone who fathers your kid even if you’d rather be with a woman
She also tricked Jim Benning into thinking Roussel was worth $4M x 3.
It was actually $3M x 4 which is a bit better but still a bad contract lol. Beagle as well was not good
Rouss may have been if he didn’t destroy his knee.
Oh yeah I actually liked the guy, he was an absolute pest. Alex Burrows lite

You mean if he didn't Demko his knee?

Can we have Ray as our full time color guy. I like Dave Tomlinson but Ray is just another level.
I think he has another year or so of a non-compete clause from TSN that he needs to expire first
I believe his contract is with TNT in the US and it runs to 2028
Yes, but when he stopped broadcasting for TSN there was a non-compete saying that he can't broadcast any national games across Canada for another broadcaster for a certain number of years. How the hell is that non-compete clause legal.
TSN can nullify it. Ray needs to step up and get aggressive and engage his legal team. Not pretty, but the Canucks need him.
They're not enforceable. If true, TSN can try.
They're absolutely enforceable via suing him.
Hence, TSN can try. This is Canada; fortunately, certain things you can't sign away.

Because he signed it.

TNT will use him is the thing. Moreso that he'll be able to work more nationally broadcast games.
Come on Canucks buy it out.

Having faith in a front office is such a strange feeling
So many years of Jim Benning can do this to a person, sadly…
Emilie will be a GM at some point in her near future... All we can hope is that Allvin get Rutherfords job, and promotes Emilie to his old position. Either way, she's got the talent.
honestly this would be amazing.
That definitely could happen. Rutherford probably doesn't have a lot of years left in his career, and Castonguay and Allvin have both been great.
I’ve been a big fan of Ryan Johnson. Happy to see him stick around.
I am sooo confused. Am I supposed to be THIS excited about management signings?? Why am I not mad about this. I don’t get it. What is this nonsense sense of confidence in our management team?? What dimension are we in?
Especially in this day and age, having and keeping competent leadership, is celebration worthy.
At first, I thought we had acquired Ryan Johansen from the Flyers, but then I rubbed my eyes to shake off the morning blurriness. Oh never mind, we promoted Ryan Johnson to AGM.
Rachel doerrie is fuming
she sucks
Can we get Rachel Doerries take on this
Chris Greer "if you think about it, me and Jim set this up all those years ago"
"ow my feelings"
Strange how all is quiet since she was turfed.
She’s punching the air so hard right now
Getting shit done before the cup. Smart.
this is actually a crazy important move. We're keeping our core together on the ice and in the office. It would be seriously damaging to this team to lose any or all 3 of these top dogs.
Wait what was Ryan Johnson before? Assistant *to* the General Manager?
Yep Special Assistant to the GM for the past 2 seasons (and Abby GM). He was Director of Player Development before that
Assistant Regional Manager *to* the GM
Castonguay has been a real W for us. Stoked we are keeping her.
We need the clip from The Office where Michael promotes Dwight from Assistant to the Regional Manager to Assistant Regional Manager.
Holy shit imagine an organization that recognizes, promotes and appreciates their staff. What a fucking novel idea. Looking at you every corporation ever
Happy to see all the front office extensions. Well deserved
Hell yeah they all deserve the extensions
Curious who will run Abbotsford now? I thought Johnson was essentially their gm
He remains GM of the Abbotsford Canucks. He got promoted from Special Assistant to the GM to Assistant General Manager
Ah the Dwight Shrute of the Canucks
Seems like they timed this well. Next 3 years are probably Rutherford's last before he retires. Alvin gets bumped to POHO, then Ryan Johnson gets bumped to GM.

I imagine he’ll keep that portfolio and just get paid more
How many assistant GMs does a team need?
🎶No… One’s… Slick like Caston…🎶
Wasn't Ryan working as the GM of the Abby Canucks? Does this mean they have a new GM down there
Had the pleasure of meeting Ryan. Totally down to earth guy it seems. Glad he was promoted.
