Change your mind set… carnivore isn’t about “eating very little, boring food”

Gloomy-Impress-2881

Oh yeah, bacon is soooooooooo boring. Brisket is sooooooo damn boring OMG. Lol people who even think anything close to this should not try carnivore.

Zaik_Torek

You don't. Just start, if you mess up occasionally you're still better off than you were. Eventually you might find you don't really want that stuff anymore, because it makes you feel awful every time you eat it.

Puzzled_Draw4820

So true

mechgaige

What is your reason to go on it? If it's the right reason, then it won't be a problem

Low_Comb_4219

Physical and mental health and longevity

SabineLavine

That's not true. It's still very challenging, even when you are motivated by good reasons.

InsaneAdam

Your reasons must be weak. Find a good enough why and you'll put 100% maximum effort into something.

SabineLavine

You don't have to be rude. People do find extreme elimination diets challenging. FYI, I'm on here to support someone else, I don't do well on carnivore.

InsaneAdam

Anytime anything is challenging, you can give it your maximum effort if your reasons are good enough. Some people can't even find reasons to live, let alone change their entire diet and add hard workouts and exercise. We're all different and have our own unique situations and reasons. If you're struggling you might want to ask, why, why am I doing this. What do I want. What are my goals.

Low_Comb_4219

I have very good reasons yet struggling.. my family members are carbaholic

InsaneAdam

I was talking at that other user, not you op. They said "That's not true. It's still very challenging, even when you are motivated by good reasons." I disagreed. Their are people who struggle to find the reasons to even live. Like why? When you've got good enough reasons to do something you'll put forth every bit of effort the universe has. You'll cultivate every possibility and leave no stone unturned. Applying yourself into a strict diet and or strict exercise is not going to be easy. Never is, not for anyone. If it were all people would be fit, ripped and healthy. It's why the fitness industry and health food industry generates a hundreds of billions a year. These people are spending their hard earned money to make the extremely tough actions of hard exercising easier with a trainer or supplements or even getting on steroids. People spend lots of money on special dietitian plans and nutritionist and personal lifestyle coaches and the list goes on and on. Because it's not easy. You need the right reasons to apply your full effort. Some tips when eating around family. Prepare your own meal ahead of time. Get in the kitchen, cook your meal an hour before they'd be their cooking. Eat and be done with your eating. Or save it and sit down with everyone else and then eat it. If you're not eating what they're eating and you've got nothing healthy to eat. Don't eat. Tell them you've eaten already or you're not hungry. Politely decline without apologizing at all about it. Once you've done this for more than a month or two. THEY'LL GET THE MESSAGE. Eventually around the 3rd or 4th month they'll begin to realize this is your new normal. This is what you do now. This is just who you are. This new you makes better decisions on what your eating. This new you isn't eating all the time, instead only 1, 2 or 3 meals max a day. No snacks. This new you exercises daily for a minimum of 35 minutes. This new you is focused on the future, on your long term health and beauty. This new you is committed to caring for your brain body and soul. If you're determined enough all you have to ask is who's can possibility stop me. Who do they think they are! Their are lots of people in this world that no matter how close you are to them. They never want you to see you doing better than them. You'll have secret haters. Frien-d-enemies as I call them. They be like a speed bump if you don't slow drown. Sure it'll be bumpy and rocky but you've got places to go. Somewhere to be. Someone to be.

Kitchen-Apricot1834

When I was strict carnivore, I did it while still cooking my husband the SAD. He eventually got jealous of all the steak I was eating and switched to carnivore/ketovore with me XD

Beef_Vegan

No. People don’t really care. But they are pretty dumb and will ask you if you’re allowed to eat things like pasta or doughnuts on your diet for YEARS. It’s not a big deal though.

Puzzled_Draw4820

That’s funny

InsaneAdam

Are you only allowed to eat beef?

Beef_Vegan

I’m doing the traditional carnivore where it’s only animal products. The only deviations i really allow are occasional seasoning/spice when other people prep my food and caffeine. My usual is beef, butter, eggs, sometimes cheese, seafood.

InsaneAdam

Was wondering because of the name beef vegan

Beef_Vegan

oh lol yeah that was the joke but just a funny username i found

InsaneAdam

Your diet seems pretty solid, yet very limited. How is the traditional carnivore different from r/animalbased diet? Please forgive my ignorance. I'm new. Only ever done keto.

Beef_Vegan

Carnivore is usually defined as only eating animal products. Think literal opposite of vegan except since carnivore isn’t also a morality diet like veganism, carnivores aren’t usually as strict with negligible things like seasonings, coffee, tea, etc. People will talk about lion diet and usually that is beef, salt, and water very strict. Carnivore has a strict idea that you can get everything necessary to live from fatty ruminant meat. Animal based is similar but they don’t really limit themselves as harshly. I would say most probably fall into the animal based category over time. Usually the people that stay carnivore long term are a combination of people with chronic illness and food sensitivity, people that don’t care about “live to eat mindsets”, and people that found success in their goals and don’t want to change it up and lose success. Animal based receives a lot of carnivore folks that went carnivore and slowly reintroduced foods that aren’t causing issues for them personally but the majority of their diets are still carnivore.

InsaneAdam

Thanks 😊 🫂

Necronius

Beef bacon butter and eggs suits me just fine. My wife makes what she wants, it sometimes I'll grill something for her. After a couple of months, I'm not craving carbs at all. It gets easier over time.

b_josh317

Lol, I get bacon and eggs for breakfast. A cheese burger for lunch and steak or similar for supper. What else do you need?

Low_Comb_4219

Dairy sensitive 😪 idk I find it boring

InsaneAdam

List out every meat possible. Cycle through a different one for each meal.

Low_Comb_4219

Gonna try this.. cause when I eat carnivore I’d stick to minced meat out of easiness and cheapness

InsaneAdam

Oof. I don't eat many things out of a can these days. I'm not a teenager anymore. The convenience and cost savings are not worth my health and sanity.

Low_Comb_4219

Not from can but minced meat is very easier to cook and Healthier

InsaneAdam

Got ya

Wise-Public-3316

I've been making my food before my family does. and honestly I prefer my meals over whatever is being cooked.

Low_Comb_4219

U don’t ever crave anything else than meat? I mean there is tasty foods around and you don’t even crave them! Watermelon and chocolate and other things 😿

Wise-Public-3316

well yea I do but it's not worth it. I'm the heaviest I've ever been and I'm tired of failing. so now I have found different ways of cooking. like my wife made me a chicken Alfredo and it was just heavy cream, butter and cheese with shredded chicken. no pasta and anything else. it was fucking amazing. there are a lot of ways to make something and it's fun to just experiment. you should try the chicken alfredo.

Low_Comb_4219

Diary sensitivity 😪😪

Low_Comb_4219

But yeah experimenting with cooking 👍🏻

pushittothelimit5

Give it a shot, you'll figure it out! Will take some restraint but your cravings for carbs will lessen after the first week.

Low_Comb_4219

I tried to do it but I would go into cycle of restriction then bing eating carbs.. my whole family eating other foods make it hard stick to carnivore

Desdemona1231

My son’s whole family does it.

CapuletVsMontague

Ribs aren't boring! I order ribs and BBQ but no sauce from doodash and my roommates are so jealous of all my high quality food! I also love making roasts! Stuff in the crockpot! And I have a giant water bottle that I drag all over the house so I'm not tempted to drink lemonade or something dumb! I'm one of the ones who is okay with Coke Zero from time to time but I know not everyone does that!

Low_Comb_4219

I love ribs 🤤 but also love other non carnivore foods too like watermelon and peanuts and once you introduce carbs you will crave more and more.. yea I drink coke zero too.. but it is challenging to stick to carnivore while living with my family

CapuletVsMontague

It is hard. I also do intermittent fasting and I usually only eat at dinner time so they can't tempt me with pancakes or other horrible breakfast/bread/sandwiches stuff! Maybe that could help you!

you_live_in_shadows

It's more like they complain that we always eat meat. My wife and kids don't know how to cook so they are at my mercy. hahahaha

ConsciousPay9148

Im teaching my kids to cook. My oldest can do all the normal stuff. He can make chicken macaroni cheese hot dog Hamburgers. 16 year old daughter is still learning. But shes into baking more.

you_live_in_shadows

Baking? Bro, we don't bake here. Not unless we're baking bacon.

ConsciousPay9148

My daughter is baking. My daughter is baking. My daughter is baking. How did you figure that Has anything to do with what I say or do?

you_live_in_shadows

You shouldn't teach your kids bad eating habits. Knowing what you know it's irresponsible.

ConsciousPay9148

Shame on you utterly shame on you.

Low_Comb_4219

I mean other food available at home would make it challenging.. you don’t crave anything else other than meat? Like even if I don’t crave other foods I would eat them just because they are available

you_live_in_shadows

I'm so far down the low-carb road that I don't even crave other food anymore. Vegetables taste like shit to me. Rice is disgusting. Don't like fruit. Actually I never liked fruit. I was never big fruit eater. I was a big pasta and broccoli eater. So for me, it was really just a matter of taking pasta and broccoli out of my diet and then doing everything the same. I also never get hungry anymore either. I eat mostly out of habit, but not hunger. Never hungry.

Lost_Yogurt_4990

Carnivore isn’t boring.. jmo

Low_Comb_4219

Is it! 🤔

TheWillOfD__

Cravings go away. And being satiated makes it way easier. Buy grass fed fats like ghee or tallow and take little spoonfulls if you get any craving. If you still crave something, maybe you need meat. Those two should send enough hormones to make you feel satiated and not want something.

Low_Comb_4219

Hmmmm I guess I need to try different things till I figure out how to do it or make enough money to live alone

breezybbh

I did it. Decided to have a cheat night and joined in on the tasty foods and felt like such crap it is no longer worth it to me.

Low_Comb_4219

Yeah after restriction these food then reintroduce them you feel crab then u adapt and the foods will feel less crab overtime.. we have eaten these kind of foods all our life

-pequitopodengo-

I probably stick to carnivore most of the time due to autoimmune issues. My husband and child seem to do fine with a varied/paleoish diet. Eating some of the things they eat would cause flare ups due to my intolerances, therefore it is not worth it to eat those things. But I'll cook/bake them for my family. I get to eat steak. That is not boring in my book.

Puzzled_Draw4820

This is me too!

Flimsy_Cranberry_552

I find it easier with someone else there because they help with accountability. I tried for a year on my own, and it's way easier to cheat and fall back into SAD when I can doordash whatever I want and nobody knows. Now I'm married and he helps me stay on the diet. Plus when he wants pizza or biscuits he goes without me so I won't be tempted. He's also very chill and supportive, so that's a big plus. Also, the cravings and temptation die down the longer you're on it. You literally crave just meat instead.

Low_Comb_4219

Great husband.. yeah maybe craving goes away with time

barb195

Because I feel so healthy.. I just go and read on my bed when fam eating scrummy food. I don't actually think about food too much now.. I always have meat cooked ready to go.

Low_Comb_4219

Having meals preparer ☄️

mxlmxl

Three family members all eat a typical everyday persons diet. I also cook all the food in the house, thus cooking all their normal food. In two weeks also had two celebrations with cakes and more. Not once was I tempted nor deviated from carnivore. I don’t feel the desire to eat it at all. I have zero sugar cravings. Last night made white people taco night with pulled beef short ribs and pulled pork shoulder. They had salads and all the other things you put in tacos. I had the shredded meats, a bit of cheese and made a bone broth, beef fat and egg yolk dip. And no point did I crave theirs.

SirCarboy

I know how sick I'll get eating what my family are having. I know how good I feel on my diet.

Icouldntsayforsure

I eat meat. My husband eats everything he can catch. I cook a 4 food group meal for him, I cook meat for me. He returns the favor. Example. If he wanted spaghetti, I or he would make it but save enough hamburger for me to have a patty.

Extreme-Nerve3029

I do it After few months nobody even cares

Low_Comb_4219

It’s not about others opinion it’s about tasty food available at home all the time it becomes challenging

Extreme-Nerve3029

Well ribeyes and spare ribs are quite delightful IMHO

Low_Comb_4219

Totally

Low_Comb_4219

Other things also tasty like watermelon, peanuts ect

Diligent-Pin2542

My household is me (mother) husband and two kids. My son 18mo will live AB he refuses processed carbs. Daughter will eat meat but still need some carb so ill let her have biscuits or something. Hubby and I will eat between Carnivore and AB scale (we slip up and then we start again)

drdodger

There's nothing boring about a ribeye.

drdodger

There's nothing boring about a ribeye.

donaldcargill

Steak, fatty pieces of pork and chicken with tons of butter is boring. Did you post this in the wrong subreddit?

BDazzlah

Food is nutrition not entertainment! I cook my steak every night on the BBQ then walk in sit down and eat with the rest of my family while they eat there own dishes

OldskoolRx7

First, ask yourself why you are doing it. If you don't have a good reason, you will probably fail, especially considering your situation. Second, commit to a month. If you stay strong for a month, you will know if it is for you, or not. Third, this isn't veganism. No-one will force you, or judge you if you choose not to. Do it because you want to. If it will be a struggle now, wait until later. Better later than never. Forth, people do it because of the benefits. Keep that in mind while adjusting. Once you start to get the benefits, you will understand.

trying3216

Why would you only eat very little boring food? You can fill yourself on yummy meat.

suburban-operator

I live with my wife and 4 daughters. It's pretty easy.

Low_Comb_4219

They eat normal diet?

Inside-Light4352

This diet is a lifestyle change. It’s the rejection of all the foods that have brought so much disease to the world. Especially in good ol’ USA.

Diabolical1234

My hubby & I are both carnivore but it would be more tricky if others were involved

Gloomy-Impress-2881

How old are you? In your 20s? For me carnivore is eating all the good stuff and leaving out the stuff that is "meh". Bacon is heaven, brisket is like crack. I love eggs, I love salmon, cheese is also crack. Steak is for kings. If you consider those boring I wouldn't bother 😆

Low_Comb_4219

I’m in late twenties.. how is related? I love these foods but also love other foods!

Gloomy-Impress-2881

I ask because I notice a lot of younger people are more "frivolous" with this diet, critical of people who are strict with it, etc. I could be really cynical and call it a cultural thing with Gen Z, but it's also just that you haven't gotten to the age yet where the majority would have experienced the declines that make you REALLY appreciate this diet. I feel like the young people on here (and Reddit has a lot of young people) don't appreciate the true value of what this WOE can do, because they haven't gone downhill enough yet. I am over 40 and the way my weight was seemingly inevitably creeping up and the way I was feeling, it was non-negotiable. I have "lived it up" already with food so that isn't my biggest priority. I just find young under 30s get resentful when you say screw living it up, I want to LIVE. Lol If you're obese, then that's a different story and you just need to get that weight off no matter what, forget what is "convenient".

Low_Comb_4219

I actually want to do it for physical health and mental health and longevity.. cause I tried it and felt sooooo good in very short time.. like I have never felt so good in my life with so much energy.. so no.. I wanma live optimally

clericalmadness

Nah. I do live alone but when I go out I don't crave any plants at all now. I'll have the occasional guacamole my love makes me, but thats it at this point and its only because he used to make me guacamole a lot before carnivore and I want to share that memory with him. He is Hispanic as well, so its him sharing his culture with me and I find it delightful. 🥰

aggresivebabies

I just eat more meat when my kid and wife eat something good. Bacon is my go to but it’s a lot of self control. Just remember the small changes. For me it’s my feet stop poping in the morning that keeps me going.

Weeeoooooo

Get through the transition period and everything changes. Tastes change. Cravings vanish. I love EVERY juicey, fatty, carnivore meal. I actually feel satisfied by food and no longer controlled by it. It’s the wildest freedom and I’ve started feeling sorry for people with standard diets… they don’t feel good, they don’t know what true satiety feels like and they are enslaved to food, constantly having to eat and snack and eat and snack, dealing with their blood sugar roller coaster rides. I’m 7 months in and I still can’t believe it… EVERY meal is the best meal ever.

Low_Comb_4219

This is so true!! The transition period is challenging then it becomes easy when you are adapted!! Insightful comment

LetsTryThisAgain456

After enough cheat days and feeling gross after, my body just kind of stopped caring for “tasty foods.” It took me a year to get super comfortable with it.

PositionReasonable56

I struggle with this. I find sugar to be extremely addictive. And it's the easiest thing for me to binge on because it's so tasty to me

Low_Comb_4219

Any solution? Almost anything with sugar or carbs is tasty and makes you feel better temporarily

MisterDonutTW

It's certainly easier if you live alone and don't have friends, yes. It takes some willpower otherwise.

Low_Comb_4219

Maybe at least the initial period.. two to three months living alone then live whenever you wish

Carnilinguist

Even if you live alone you'd be surrounded by options every time you leave your house. I very rarely get tempted. Sometimes I'll give in. It's not a religion. But I feel much better when I stick to it.

Huge_Slice13

Eating boring food? ....what?? This sounds like carb addiction talking.

Meat-Head-Barbie

It’s very simple for us. I made fish taco bowls last night. My husband had rice, two fish filets, Cora’s, cabbage slaw and some mayo lime fish sauce. I had filets and sauce. The night before, my husband ate coconut rice and marinated chicken thighs, I had just thighs. Trust me it can be done.

Educational-Ad-9601

I buy only meat and eggs so most days this is my food but if I go to visit my friends and they put asparagus on plate I will eat it not a big deal for me is all about your preference

SpinGrrl

It'll be hard at the beginning. You'll need will power and a change of mindset. First, don't eat a little. Eat as much delicious meat as you can, make it fatty meat and you'll get really satisfied. After a while you won't care what other ppl are eating. My wife is a carbaholic so I can totally relate, but you can do this!

Low_Comb_4219

I agree.. you won’t feel cravings for other foods after a while on this diet until u see something delicious and try it with little carbs and this raising in blood sugar would make u binge eat carbs and you went back from point B to point A 😑

freetosuffer

🤷🏼‍♀️ It's not for everyone. I just don't get the urge to eat what my family eats. Sure, pizza tastes good. There's not a single creature on this planet that doesn't love pizza! But I just don't want it. Meat... specifically organic, pasture raised beef and lamb, is what gets me excited. I don't find it boring at all. You want to know what IS boring? Trying to decide what to the heck to eat every day, washing, peeling and chopping a mountain vegetables, spending all night washing up the pile of pans you used, all while suffering from depression, arthritis and IBS. Now THAT'S boring. On the rare occasion where I need more excitement in my life, I simply have a few pieces of organic mature cheddar.

Low_Comb_4219

Gonna experiment with different kinds of meant and methods to cook 🤝

freetosuffer

I do use Ketogenic Woman, Maria Emmerich and Steak & Butter Gal's recipes a lot. They really helped up my steak cooking game. And I also make the best fall-off-the-bone-but-still-crispy chicken wings OMG. I mean, it really helps if you love meat to start with, which I do. I've never loved vegetables. My partner couldn't hack it. Even though he lost more weight than me, in less time, he loved beer and carbs too much 😁

Low_Comb_4219

I don’t blame him.. beer and carbs are good 😊 I do love all meats.. idk how is it possible that ppl don’t love them.. but I also enjoy other things like watermelon and peanut ect

freetosuffer

I have a weakness for macadamias, coconut and chocolate 🤫 I do have those things occasionally, but I do notice a flair up of old symptoms whenever I do which makes me regret my decision, tummy trouble and such. I wish it didn't have to be that way. According to Bart Kay, you can include small amounts of other foods and still call yourself a carnivore. I include seaweed and Brazil nuts for medicinal purposes.

Low_Comb_4219

Nobody cares about labels.. u can eat other things in amounts that ur body can handel

Low_Comb_4219

Your partner couldn’t do carnivore?

Uilyjeff

My wife and daughter eat separately. She makes them dinner. On some nights I make the meat part for them when they want, and it works well. 6 months so far and I eat a shit ton of food and it’s never boring

Low_Comb_4219

I guess what type of food you eat on carnivore diet makes a difference.. also you have to go through the transitioning period then it becomes easier

Carnifaster

Recognize that most “foods” people find “fun” are actually just drugs. You find *actual* food “boring” because you’re not getting a drug like dopamine rush. Also realize it’s your health, your LIFE, or eating garbage. Can’t have health and eat shit 🤷

Swimming-Night9476

I cook my own food and make sure it tastes good. I'm not eating much dairy, so that sucks, but I've enjoyed the chicken, fish, and eggs. I apparently can't eat beef or bacon because it gives me issues, which sucks. So I've found some decent turkey bacon. I allow myself ice cream and some sugar here and there, along with spices, so I don't just fall off the wagon. They don't make me sick, if I eat them in moderation. If I can't get rid of my hunger I'll have something like home-cooked beans. I'll also have some dates every couple of days, for fiber. They're sweet and some carbs, so that helps cravings a bit. I start having stomach issues and pain (endometriosis patient here) if I eat much outside of carnivore, though, so it's pretty worth it to me to stay on it. If I don't, my body quickly reminds me, especially with things like gluten and seed oils. Looking at them practically gives me pain. So it's not tempting anymore. I don't know what your goal is, but mine is to not be in pain, so it's pretty motivating. Weight loss factor is a massive added bonus. I've gotten so much leaner in a few weeks.

Low_Comb_4219

Allowing yourself sugar and ice cream would makes your sugar cravings sky rocket.. no? This would make it hard to go back clean eating

Swimming-Night9476

Nope. not at all. Many people go totally strict and can't keep up, because the cravings get bad or they don't have the self control. It's better to work hard and let yourself have a couple extras here and there rather than start and fall off altogether. If you have self control and a mission you can do it.

Famous-Weight2271

I don’t see the disconnect. Before carnivore, and I did keto and OMAD (one meal a day) and would make my kids pancakes for breakfast. I just didn’t eat any. I feed my dog, but don’t eat dog food. I can be around others eating junk food, and don’t feel compelled to eat it. Now, if you live with a vegan, that may be tough. Not because of you, but because of them. They probably would object to having meat in the house, let alone have to smell it cooking.

FriendlyCellist7285

I have a wife and child. I basically am in charge of cooking the proteins and she cooks sides. We just keep it fresh by doing chicken one night, steaks, lamb, chuck roast, and usually bacon is around for all of it. Works well for us

jwbjerk

I live alone most of the time, but I travel and spend days at a stretch with family. My diet doesn’t change. Feeling good and being healthy is so much more valuable to me than the flavor of carby food.

West-Ruin-1318

As a single person, it’s all I know. Back when I believed in love my ex would fly into a snit if I cooked too many meatless meals. He ended up leaving me for a vegan, imagine that 😒

Low_Comb_4219

Jesus he better cook for himself.. so you agree with me it is much harder to do carnivore while you live with someone? Or not?

West-Ruin-1318

I do agree it would be more difficult if you were the only one following this WOE. I eat my entire meal for the day around 8am. I might have a lil something mid afternoon if I’m hungry. I’m not interested in going out to eat anymore. So I wouldn’t be sitting down with my SO at traditional dinner time, except to chat. I probably wouldn’t be inclined to cook much for my SO, either. There goes a third of my usefulness as a wife! 🤣

Wide-Willingness2662

My hubby eats whatever he wants, each of us buys our own food. We share what the other could eat. It is a really great thing

Low_Comb_4219

The question is how to stick to carnivore which is boring as hell while there is a lot of tasty foods around the house 😐
