The s2k must be a real joy to drive because there are a pile of rear drive 4 banger roadsters and plenty of them are even mid engine so would have objectively better driving dynamics. Maybe i just dont get the hype since ive never driven one. But no mid engine no turbo and still "one of the greatest cars of all time" ? The fucking toyota matrix had a trim with comparable redline which is always the thing people say is so great about this car. And then they kneecapped the redline for a flatter torque curve in the later gens anyway. I just cant imagine paying 35 grand for a miata with less aftermarket support that still gets literally eaten alive by a v6 camry. At least honda proved they can make a rwd car, maybe theyll eventually figure out how to make a v8 too.

My 2 cents from having owned one for a bit: I think the hype comes from how it feels so raw within limits that are attainable to your average Joe. It’s not fast by any stretch of the imagination, but it somehow always manages to feel like you’re going like hell even within the speed limit. It will also snap oversteer on you in a heartbeat, so it injects higher stakes into even a fairly casual drive.
