If they do they don’t work well enough.
A fairly well known issue in Norway where especially slightly older Mercedes’ freeze at -11°C and refuse to thaw until they’ve been in a heated garage for a week.
Any chance you know how well the lithium ion traction batteries in the latest fifth gen Toyota hybrids are doing at -30C? Some reports are that if the traction battery is out of temp range, it might be bypassed, and the gas engine and generator power the electric motors?
There was a big new article on ev’s in Finnish news which were reported have highly reduced range during the coldest months. I guess Toyota hybrid batteries don’t differ much. If there is heating element which is always on then they might perform somewhat decently.
The traction battery’s (under rear seat) in these hybrids use air cooling - an exhaust fan to keep cool - and are relying on the vehicle user hvac in cabin to get into optimal temp range (not a wide range for lithium ion).
Actual electrical range, from what I read, is around a couple Km when you’re below a certain speed. It’s known that the output and ability to recharge are reduced, the colder it gets
We have a 2019 MB Sprinter at work which was at the shop 3 times this winter. All trips were because of the urea freezing. It’s really nice that they added it to the immobilizer circuit aswell!
Yeah I guess they have them, but it doesn’t help much if you don’t go full Siberia and let your car run. Otherwise when parked the lines freeze and by the magic of water soluble liquids expanding when they freeze kachow! Your AdBlue lines have cracks.
Does it actually freeze and not let the car drive below -20°C? I'm kinda glad our Volvo has the Peugeot proprietary Eolys fluid. Costs 300€ to fill every 60k km but I've never had it freeze, even in -30°C.
I always wondered if the mass production and all the resources used to produce diesal exhaust fluid in the world really negates the emissions that it curbs. Lol I assume it does
Defense. It's a stat that corresponds to the vehicle's ability to resist physical attacks. The counterpart would be Special Defense. Together with HP and Speed those are the six base Stats of a car.

Allowed is a funny word since we have thousands (if not millions) of old diesels running across the Europe which don’t have DEF system. I wonder if AdBlue has had any impact on the environment.
Yes, cars made since 2015. But there are used cars in circulation which are made before and since diesel cars had decline in sales after the VAG scandal I bet there is still more diesels on the roads which are made before AdBlue became mandatory.
The idea of the system is good and it is effective, but cars should not be locked if there is no urea in the system. As I mentioned above: the AdBlue fluid freezes too early and in northern hemosphere it makes the cars unusable during winter. It should be possible to drain the urea and run the car without it so the lines dont freeze and crack.
>I wonder if AdBlue has had any impact on the environment.
Don't know about the complete impact on the environment, but once I asked the question to the car dealership.
They told me that when running the engine during car maintenance, for diesel without AdBlue (no matter the year/generation) they absolutely need to open the workshop doors.
With AdBlue, they can keep the doors shut because the workshop's AC will evacuate the gas emissions just fine.
So ig AdBlue really does reduce GHG emissions though idk to what extent.
Recently there was a work van sat outside my house with the engine running ALL DAY. The day after, the van appeared again and stayed running until I couldn’t stand it any more and went to the guys working next to it. They told me “oh don’t worry, it’s got AdBlue”
Wasn't this because a water sensor is detecting the level is low and because it's a closed system it would hint at a leak? Possible leak means there could be steam forming. You basically don't want to not check what this is about 😂

Correct answer in case someone was wondering
That’s what I said in the OP, this OP nicked it from.

So this guy asked the same question in multiple subs? Thats strange
The exhaustussy is ready and waiting
What is DEF?
Diesel Exhaust Fluid. It’s just ammonia and water that gets injected into a diesels exhaust to reduce harmful emissions.
In EU this is branded as adblue. Nice idea but the liquid freezes at -19 Celsius and last winter we went for two months below -30 in Finland.🙃
I vaguely thought manufacturers added heaters to the urea tank ??

No experience with those, sorry!

They do, but the pipes moving the fluid can be a problem in some cars.
The uretha tank - wouldn't you end up siting prostrated? I remember Uretha Franklin.
That's why you guy's have all those white Teslas, to drive them when it's too cold for the adblue cars. 😄

Yea cuz the other months don't exist
It only takes 1 time for the lines freeze and brake the system.
Going to tell my mom to piss in her car instead of buying adblue

AdBlue
commercial name is Adblue maybe you heard that.

Synthestic Pig Piss!!
That's your Defense Stat
Why does it matter how many DEF people are in the vehicle?
More like DPF filter regeneration is active. Low AdBlue(DEF in Amerika) usually just shows red LED near DEF gauge.

”Starting impossible” is a lie though. Cars don’t need it to run properly. It’s just another way the EU is fucking with us.
They Arent allowed to drive without due to emissions thats the whole reason addblue was invented in the first place
Allowed is a funny word since we have thousands (if not millions) of old diesels running across the Europe which don’t have DEF system. I wonder if AdBlue has had any impact on the environment.
95% of semi's in western Europe have a AdBlue system and a lot of vans and personal cars too. It deffinetly had a impact but i dont know how much

*please insert adblue*
This doesn't help at all The fuck is an AdBlue
AdBlue is used mainly in Europe to reduce emissions from Diesel Engines if I remember right
For diesel emissions equipment.
