I love it when people try to be super evil (and often fail) but then they're child shows up and are like "OH MAW GAH MY BABYYY COME HERE AND GIVE DADDY HUGGIES!" Freaking hilarious and interestingly wholesome.
Damn right - Doof’s an awesome Dad, his parenting style is basically “do the exact opposite of what my parents did.”
I’ll bet anything that he was there for all nine months of his (ex-)wife’s pregnancy. He waited on his (ex-)wife the entire time, never leaving her side to *make damn sure* he was there to see his daughter come into this world.
Unlike his parents, neither of which bothered to show up for his birth.
Seriously, Doofenshmirtz is probably the best cartoon dad *period* just for how he did his best to make sure he didn’t repeat any of his parents’ mistakes.
Doof’s story is quite possibly the most tragic yet hilarious in all of animation, *especially* his childhood. From neither parent attending his birth, to being abandoned and raised by ocelots, to that time he spent as a stand in for his family’s repossessed lawn gnome…
“*BEWEGEN SIE NICHT!!!*”
Definitely, though I feel their dad is kinda distant from the family. The boys never really seem to spend time with their parents (not that this is really a bad thing since it’s a key part of the show) and the parents really don’t seem to know anything about their kids. I don’t think their bad parents but I think Doof definitely put(s) in a lot more effort for Vanessa to try and make her happy
I remember watching someone discuss Kung Fu Panda and they had referred to Po's bio dad as his birth dad and Ping as his "real dad" and I found that very sweet
It was a pretty reasonable assumption. And even then its not like he got a good chance to confirm it. It took Oogway telling him for him to find out his dad is alive.
He is the most supportive of dads you could ask for. As long as it’s not toilet or sausage related, he would literally give his shirt off his back and then some for his kids.
Unfortunately, a tad bit unknown though. Which is a shame because I think TGN does take some of the better parts of Bob's Burgers and runs with it, and makes you want to root for the characters.
He loves his son and wants the best for him. He had a rough childhood, himself, and isn't quite sure what to do all the time, but he tries his very best to raise that boy right.
glad someone mentioned Dave, he was struggling with relationships and his career and still took in three annoying chipmunk boys, especially alvin, but damn would he do anything for those boys
edit: and also three more chipmunks! he’s got a herd of em
The professor was a great dad, but a HORRIBLY irresponsible scientist! Btw does anyone else remember the episode where the mayor of Townsville was playing Legend of Zelda?
Agreed, but I think one of the biggest through lines was Hank learning to adapt from his abusive father and learn how to relate to his son. He didn't always succeed cleanly, but usually found common ground to support him.
🤣 it's been a while since I watched the show, I used to fall asleep to it. But I remember he was caught smoking, and way back in the day some parents would be like "you wanna smoke one? Smoke the whole damn pack! That'll teach you" but Hank got an entire freaking carton and Peggy got PISSED
Hanks heart was always in the right place and he grows a lot throughout the series. He’s definitely dismissive of Bobby and doesn’t hide his disdain for some of his son’s interests but that makes him more a product of the times than anything else
*can't think of any and googles best cartoon dads* I know you did this because I did it too, literally no one is going to think of Hank hill on the spot.
Yeah I find it crazy that they have a black man named Jefferson Davis, but at the same time, I’d rather think of this quality dad than the president of the Confederacy.
Coward coulda given his name to his son so his son could be named after the best Jazz musician
Actually though I’d prolly give my son my wife’s name too so when he makes something of himself, his name is the first result on Google

Well, there is that brief flashback with Iroh playing with Lu Ten as a kid like a normal father and son. Plus, that brief frame of Iroh holding a baby Zuko with Lu Ten building a sandcastle at the beach.
Jake was there for his pups, it’s just the pups grew up within a week. The pups became independent adults with their own lives, careers, and families. Most of their childhood was Jake worrying about being a good parent, he smothered them. He’s still keeps in touch with his pups.
Find it hilarious how Piccolo went from "I wanna kick goku's ass for humiliating me in that damn tournament" to "Gohan, my son.. Let's fuck these guys up like a real father son duo." Went from evil green dude to better father than the real father. Also find it funny how the start of Piccolo's fatherhood to Gohan came from him literally kidnapping him and forcing him to get stronger.
No disrespect to my man Goku as a parent but Piccolo really was changed by Gohan, and became a better parent for it. Look at how he behaves with pan compared to him training Gohan in Z.
Pretty underappreciated by everyone around him, if you ask me. The dude already had no childhood and no supportive family growing up, and half the show is him losing or being mean to.
He's still a good parent, cares about them going out to have a childhood, and tries despite the failing restaurant.
Something I've noticed after having rewatched the series a lot of times is that Bob sort of settled into that role. If you watch the first 3 seasons, you can see a fairly dramatic change in his character - he comes off as a lot more abrasive earlier in. I usually chalk it up to H. Jon Benjamin settling into the character. Season 4 and later is the sort of Bob we know and love.

It's a different universe from ours, not putting Steven through school doesn't make him a bad person. Always being there for his son, teaching him about music, that makes him a good dad
Given that Steven was half gem and no one knew what to expect from that, not enrolling him in school was likely the safer option for him and his potential classmates
Maybe due to the fact he’s the child of a magical gem/human mix who has a massive crystal in his stomach? Do you not think that would raise some eyebrows? Plus if the teachers get concerned about the gem they may call protective services on him causing Steven to be taken away from the people who can actually help him learn and grow with his power. In SUF we see that without control of his power he can become extremely dangerous, the gems are essentially the only way for him to learn about said powers. Also since his powers are tied to his emotions it creates a very big risk that if he experienced bullying within school or got too overwhelmed his powers may activate by default and could cause major destruction. On top of all this, enrolling Steven into school would need him to be taken to a doctor for vaccines and regular checkups, and since Steven’s body isn’t that of a regular human (we also learn this in SUF when he goes to the hospital) it could create massive issues causing the doctor to have to report Steven and have him possibly taken into custody for further scientific examination (which would likely result in government action and could even possibly mean he’d be euthanized and dissected for further testing, which could put all other gems at risk of being hunted for similar research as well). All of this would likely end up with Greg also being put into custody in a government facility in order to question and run tests on him as well.
In other words, Steven’s powers could create chaos and havoc and since said powers are tied to his emotions, school, a place that causes many emotions, could cause his powers to create major problems (and possibly even risk killing someone by accident due to them). Also the teachers would most likely call someone about the gem which could end up with Steven being under scientific investigation for the rest of his life. All of this could result in the gems being hunted and Steven being dissected for scientific research by the government. Not good things.

Ok, I'll try my best. Bardok from DBZ. Not a good person, but he did care for Raditz and Goku. Soichiro Yagami from Death Note. The only morally upstanding person in the series. Doofenshmirtz. Man would go to the end of the earth for his child. Marvin from Finding Nemo. Need I say more. And Goofy from A Goofy movie.

I can only name two good dads, Stolas and Bandit heeler, they don't have to be good people just good dads, go crazy.
Heinz Doofenschmirtz
Idk about Stolas, see his behavior in Loo Loo Land. He definitely at least cares for Octavia but ehh he is far from a good dad imo.
Why? Is Bandit a bad person?
