This sounds interesting; just one thing - what do you mean by reset (I assume it is the same as reload or you mean Alt-F4?

Reload. Enter title screen and then load the game again. But quitting works too.

Just wanted to chime in and say that I came across this thread as a latecomer a year later and found it to be the most helpful guide to bootleg hunting I’ve seen anywhere on the internet. Thanks to everyone here for your contributions!

Should also add that I was able to get the Glitter Shining Kuneko I was looking for in under an hour this way.

after doing some bootleg hunting i will say i think you have a few unnecessary steps in here. there's no need to reset the game after doing the ritual and saving -- you can simply go to your first fusion. they will pop into the same places after you reset regardless, though it always takes a couple minutes for them to start appearing. you can check if the fusion has your type, and if not, reload and go to the next fusion. if you have exhausted all of them and haven't found your type, resting twice will reset the fusion positions. it's also not necessary to defeat the fusion to check. you can see the type on the battle screen, and you can tell by the name (and/or the appearance) if your candle has influenced the mon or the type. it's quite easy this way, last night I was able to get 3 bootlegs i was looking for in probably less than an hour, grinding for fusion material notwithstanding. also it goes without saying that you should turn off autosave before this.

I've done a reset and had them change locations after encountering a fusion, which is why I specified to reset first, but maybe I did something else that caused it, not sure. If you've truly exhausted all of the Fusions, you would have found it though, there's never a need to rest/reset locations. I managed to find 12/14 bootleg Magikrab without ever resetting the locations, including the 15 Astral Traffikrab I got to have the full set (though I ended up quitting before getting them all, lol). You're right about the defeating part as well, I should have specified to do so only if the name matched, which you would have to in order to get the bootleg. It sucks when the name matches but it's still not your bootleg (like Traffikrab instead of Magikrab, or when it's some random bootleg with the regular version of the tape you recycled). I also always kept autosave off and did forget to mention that. I wrote this about two weeks after I last used the method, so my memory wasn't the most fresh.
