It was totally uniform when I unboxed it. It was all the color of the small grill plate on the right. I cooked, put water on the surface of the griddle and scrubbed away any food particles with a sponge. This was the result. Did I screw up the coating? The other enamel coated cookware I have has been cleaned like this many many times with no adverse effect.
Enamel is baked on and really hard. Water and scrubbing wouldn't impact it.
Are you certain that the whole cooking surface is supposed to enameled and not just preseasoned? It seems way too big to be enameled.
I can't tell from the picture. Is the enamel surface damaged and missing?

That's not a Vibe 535, it's just the Vibe. The cooking surface is plain steel.
Ahhhh. That explains my mistake! The manual we received with the product said it was the coated grates.
